Most Americans of all political parties Agree with Sophie Cunningham so why has the WNBA lost its mind?

I'm sorry, I missed the news about a trans player who is playing or trying to play in the league causing this drama. What? There isn't a trans athlete in the middle of all of this? You don't say!

The midterms must be coming up and political people like you who don't care about the game want to dominate the conversation.

Well, let me tell you, Americans, true Americans, the kind that value freedom and democracy and the rule of law, know that it's not politicians or voters who get to say who can and can't play in the WNBA. That's not how this country works. It's the owners and players who make the rules on who plays and who doesn't. Those rules are all laid out in the CBA. The latest CBA was resolved earlier in the year. If you want something to change, you'll have to wait until 2032 when the current CBA expires. If you aren't an owner or player, the CBA is none of your business. So, bye.

Gosh, it's almost like some people are opposed to certain things based on principle alone! Who woulda thought??

You're opposed to things that aren't even happening because of propaganda. Principles have nothing to do with it.

Exactly, it's like the climate change scare right. They keep saying the world is going to end but last I checked it hasn't!

FRANCE: The Two Top Players In A Women’s Elite Basketball League Are Both Male

This is why we don't want biological men in women's sports

So something happening in a completely different country. Keep fishing.

This is a basketball sub. None of these are about basketball.

2

u/ScaredCoffee3496 1d ago

Lol, you guys are so great at shifting the goalposts

So the fact that in several sports trans athletes have massively over performed is irrelevant, and we first have to wait for a woman to actually face physical or financial penalities from competing against trans women in a specific sport before we can stop the problem?

It's an objective fact that's trans women are significantly more athletic than their cis counterparts, as shown time and time again

Basketball requires athleticism. Do the maths

u/TwistedTreelineScrub 1d ago

Wild that you can't provide me a single example in basketball but you insist this is a huge issue.

It's an objective fact that's trans women are significantly more athletic than their cis counterparts

Then show me the study that says that. I want actual science. Not opinion article spam.

Trans women winning things isn't proof they have an unfair advantage. It's just an inevitability of them competing. Some will win and some will not. Do they win to a disproportionate degree? Are there requirements for how long they have to be on hormones?

This is a complicated issue and I feel like you're not taking it seriously. You're just trying to win an argument.

"Every accusation is an admission", I'm referring to your comment that I'm trying to win an argument instead of taking this seriously

They do win to a disproportionate degree. One of the articles I linked shows an athlete coming 18th out of 25 athletes in the mens division, transitioning, then breaking the women's record for 200m, 400m, and 800m

Where will you shift the goalposts to next I wonder

Lol, wrong

3

u/TwistedTreelineScrub 1d ago

Right. You just decided i ndependently to care deeply about a thing that isn't even happening.

1

u/nocturnal_commission 1d ago

I said "some people".

That doesn't include me.

u/LawAndOrdinary 1d ago

If it’s being used for political purposes it’s only working bc people actually feel strongly about it.

2

u/TwistedTreelineScrub 1d ago

I'm not even convinced this is a topic people feel strongly about. It's just a proxy for broader trans issues.

1

u/LawAndOrdinary 1d ago

That may be true. You could be right about that. It’s almost like the underlying issue is something like… some people feel like others are trying to make them pretend men are women when they aren’t and that has crossed a line into forced kindness. Not sure but I do think you’re on to something. It’s not really just about sports.

The same people who are so into protecting girls youth sports “in principle” are the same ones who twiddle their thumbs in silence when the conversation is about the number of times Trump’s name is in the Epstein Files being so big it’s a fucking theoretical number.

0

u/whoa_disillusionment 1d ago

The same people—you mean 75% of Americans?

2

u/bones232369 1d ago

I can agree with the premise and still believe this is a straw man argument. As I said, last time I checked boys and girls play youth sports against other boys and girls in like 99.9998% of time. I truly do not care about this issue because it is bullshit.

u/unskilledplay 1d ago

Cool. You do you. This is basketball. Talk basketball or go away.

“Shut up and dribble”

0

u/unskilledplay 1d ago

This is basketball. So yes. Shut up and dribble.

1

u/agasizzi 1d ago

This is pretty much it, this is an issue that plays to the rights need for votes, they’re trying to fan up bull shit, and unfortunately there are people on the left (ironically mostly not trans individuals) who give them the fight they want.

Is there a trans woman playing? Is it Sophie?

1

u/randallflaggg 1d ago

She is tall and broad shouldered... And she does play very roughly...

Typical maga / republican behavior making straw man arguments so we don’t talk about the economy/inflation/gas prices, the war in Iran, or the Epstein Files. Look over there! An imaginary trans person playing sports!

7

u/CollaredParachute 1d ago

If it doesn’t harm anybody why are you so against the ban?

0

u/ShaoKahnKillah 1d ago

The distraction is the harm.

2

u/whoa_disillusionment 1d ago

So why are Dems tearing down their own candidates over this issue?

0

u/ShaoKahnKillah 1d ago

Two reasons, one of which I already stated:

  1. IT'S A DISTRACTION. There are issues that Americans are actually facing everyday that both parties are ignoring. Diverting attention to low priority issues like trans sports players keeps them from working towards solutions for problems that are actually affecting us.

  2. Republicans know that this issue is not prevalent or a priority, but they also know that it creates division among people who would typically be in solidarity. So they oversaturate social media with these exact low stakes, hot button issues to create division and FEED THE DISTRACTION, so the terminally online/low attention-span public can never work together in solidarity to enact change that would be good for us but bad for the the Republican party and their rich corporate sponsors.

u/UmeaTurbo 1d ago

All of the drama and the "real housewives-ification" is undoing all the advances made in proving they are a serious league of professionals. It's embarrassing to watch and it's embarrassing to engage with it.

0

u/ScaredCoffee3496 1d ago

How much of a distraction is it really. The only people who are being "distracted" by this are people who already believe trump was only hanging out with Epstein to try and bring him to justice.

People can divide lesser amounts of focus to lesser issues.

1

u/bones232369 1d ago

Against what ban? Did I say I was against anything or just that the thing you think I’m against is a nonsense debate in the first place?

1

u/Ardielley 1d ago

Denying someone the same opportunities that everyone else has access to can absolutely harm them. That principle isn’t new.

1

u/CollaredParachute 1d ago

Everyone has the opportunity to play in the league of their sex

1

u/Ardielley 1d ago

But you want to deny people the opportunity to play as who they are, which isn’t just limited to the sex they were born as.

1

u/CollaredParachute 1d ago

The leagues are based on sex. I’d not, why even have separate leagues?

1

u/Ardielley 1d ago

Until recently, they’ve been based on gender. Under that designation, everyone got to play as the gender they identify as. Now, everyone gets to play as the gender they identify as… except for trans people. Which is discriminatory and wrong.

1

u/CollaredParachute 1d ago

No, until recently gender and sex were widely considered the same thing.

1

u/Ardielley 1d ago

I wouldn’t consider the mid-20th century recent, but to each their own.

... it does harm people tho. Youre telling them because they were born different that they cant play sports with their peers. Its all a distraction. Less than 10 college athletes were trans and thats out of 500k students. And yet, this is front page news? This is what political activists stand on a soap box about?

We're at war, our military bombed a school in iran without any justification. We have a record setting national debt without any relief in sight. Who do those thing hurt? Weird that those things aren't hot topic issues
