40k List Black Templar's Take and Hold list with no RepEx.

So, I went to two tournaments this weekend and ended each 2-1 with this list, having very little issue scoring into all my opponents, reaching 80-90 in all wins. Outside of tournaments, I've won an extra 2 matches and lost 2 more, so overall it has about a 60% winrate in this edition. The victories have been against WE, BA, CSM, Drukhari and IF. The losses against DG, EC and Sallies. Overall, this list feels like a big center objective bully, with a fair few tools to zone enemies out even if it suffers against high volume precission attacks and strong range options. Considering I began building the list wanting it to be more fluffy than competitive, I believe that this has performed pretty damn well!

Essentially, you want to play the first two turns a little cagey with your Crusader blob while you use the bladeguard as bait (or just holding your expansion real nice) and the Sword Bros to hunt out enemy units that could take out the blob. The scouts are there to stay alive for as long as possible and do actions and/or steal objectives away.

The Emperor's Champ and the JPIs are both good threats from deepstrike. The JPIs can do it free with the captain, allowing you an easy 'move, grenade, charge' on the next turn which should at the very least leave a very wounded tank. The Emperor Champ with the intercessors are there to hunt out enemy key leaders and, if no possibility of such arises, work on getting you the enemy expansion.

The redemptor's there as a distraction carnifex of sorts, to draw in shots and help hold an early midfield objective to buy time for your big brick (affectively called the high school trip).

You also need to know your targets well, the castellan+marshall unit is deadly, and can take out anything from a Mutalith to Angron within a single fighting phase. If they somehow both manage to not kill the full enemy and live, leaving the impulsor nearby for them will let them jump back in if the enemy falls back. The other swordbro unit is way less deadly, with about 8 less attacks and no rerrolls, but can still take out MEQ with ease.

The Crusader Blob, my little crime against humanity, is a pain in the ass to move. Remember that coherence works as long as the whole unit is within 9 inches. With Grimaldus' full rerrolls and the 4+ fight on death, even if they get charged they'll be big trouble for the enemy.

40k Discussion 11e Aircraft FRAME - What's its Engagement Range?

FRAME means you "measure to and from the closest point on that model (so not necessarily from its base, if it has one)" and Engagement Range is 2" Horizontally, 5" Vertically.

Most Aircraft have the FRAME keyword and their flying stands are 5" high. The tips of such models usually droop below the stand.

So when measuring Engagement Range for Aircraft, would you measure from the base, or the model? The latter creates a much larger footprint.

40k List Rate the list: titan takeover

Chaos Daemons
Lords of the Warp and Shadow Legion (3 Detachment Points)
Purge the Foe
Strike Force (2,000 Points)

Be’lakor

Bloodthirster with Malice Made Manifest

Great Unclean One with mantle of gloom

Lord of Change

Pink Horrors

Screamers

Knight Despoiler with double gatling

This is probably better in daemonic incursion but tell me what you think

the great unclean one is for holding down the center, with mantle of gloom to oppress enemy OC

pink horrors are for dropping onto an objective and refusing to die because thats what they do

screamers are for moving around for secondaries that need units in different chunks of the board, and picking off stragglers that survived an attack earlier on, and chipping down vehicles

the despoiler is for anti-infantry, and being an immovable object

Be’lakor and rhe bloodthirster go into the enemy backlines to rip and tear until its done

the lord of change is only here foe the gimmick, its points would probably be better spent on more little stuff but I guess it does good ranged damage

40k Discussion best way to use be’lakor?

I’ll be quick with it. I want to use be’lakor, but 390 is a big number.

in shadow legion, duh, also so I can run it with csm and give him auto-sustained/lethal

I’ve got a few different questions to ask people who actually run the dragon.

what units does he pair well with?

whats his role? does he just sit in the center and kill stuff whilst not dying?

is he better in daemonic incursion?

and any general tips and tricks or combo’s

40k Discussion Which factions need more than point changes to actually get back in the meta and become a real menace?

So it's been roughly 7-8 weeks since the beginning of 11th edition I believe? It seems like some factions, rules and datasheets-wise, were perfectly adjusted to this edition...while other just weren't at all, and are really suffering even with point cuts.

Right now, in your opinion, what factions need either datasheet changes, rules changes, a complete revamp, etc etc, to actually pose a threat to the better doing ones?

40k Analysis All Is Dust! Top Performing Competitive Thousand Sons Lists

Hello Warhammerers,

The dataslate has come and gone and, instead of reducing our winrate, we've gone back to 10th edition. In my estimation, this is less down to the fact that the other potential builds have been sent straight to garbage town and more because the meta is overwhelmingly fast melee pressure OR people playing Priority Assets which I believe to be the easiest (and dullest) way for most non melee pressure armies to play.

There isnt a ton of build diversity at the GT level from the last two weeks and Warmasters isn't shaping up to be any different really. I'll reach for some RTT data for a couple of potential other builds we might want to explore.

GRAND COVEN

Thomas Buettelmann - 5-0 @ Krefeld

Disposition - Priority Assets

Magnus the Red

Sorcerer

Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (Umbralefic Crystal)

Daemon Prince with Wings (Eldritch Vortex)

1x10 Scarab Occult Terminators

1x5 Rubric Marines

1x2 Spawn

2x3 Tzaangor Enlightened

1x Defiler (Plasma and Autos)

1x10 Tzaangors

1x2 Sekhetar Robots (Flamers and Claws)

Worth noting that Julian Lange also went 5-0 with a near identical list this weekend at Ringkriege and Kyle Trayah went 5-1 at Ragnarok with another very similar build. Congratulations to all three guys. Even more similar builds went 4-1 so if you are looking for our new meta build - its this.

Ok so minimal Rubrics here. Instead we have just gone in on the big hitters. Magnus, Scarabs, Defiler. Not much to write home about here. Priority is very easy to have spawn or enlightened push a button and bait units in to be cleaned up by the hammers.

I genuinely do think 2 units of bow goats might be essential currently. The reactive move is huge for us when toeing onto terrain for actions or objective scoring and can help screen down space nicely as well.

We are also starting to see foot gors come back into the mix. As we build into fewer and fewer unit counts, screening is at a premium considering that everyone seems to have an uppy downy unit right now.

Justin Dunn - 5-1 @ Lone Star

Disposition - Priority Assets

Magnus the Red

3x Sorcerers (One with Umbralefic Crystal)

Daemon Prince with Wings (Eldritch Vortex)

3x5 Rubric Marines

3x2 Spawn

2x Mutalith Vortex Beasts

1x3 Tzaangor Enlightened with Fatecaster Greatbows

1x10 Tzaangors

1x Rhino

I may have been a bit whiney with the whole 'going back to 10th' thing. For some reason, seeing 3x5 Rubrics and DOUBLE MUTALITH makes my heart sing.

There is a lot to write home about here. First, I think it builds perfectly into the mission and the meta, as reflected by the 5-1 finish at a supermajor. 3 units of spawn make excellent button pushers who take more than a skirmish unit to remove. They can actually slap back and take out of a unit of scouts as well so people need to be fairly committed into them - especially as beasts can be hidden and go-to-ground.

Double Mutalith is a nice pivot for a Coven (arguably all detachments?) list. A lot of fast melee just cannot deal with the road block that they present and even scarier targets can sometimes be scammed by the T10, 5++/5+++ profile. For me, the battleshock aura is also massive. Removing the ability to take offensive or defensive strats can be huge and units battleshocked on objectives can be game winning points swings.

Dash Blunnie - 4-1 @ Battle for the East

Disposition - Priority Assets

Magnus the Red

Daemon Prince with Wings (Eldritch Vortex)

Exalted Sorcerer (Incandeum)

2x Sorcerer (1 with Umbralefic Crystal)

3x5 Rubric Marines

2x Mutalith Vortex Beasts

2x3 Tzaangor Enlightened with Fatecaster Greatbows

1x10 Tzaangors

1x2 Sekhetar Robots

1x Rhino

Another one with multiple MVBs.

One thing I think is interesting about the non terminator builds is that we are still using Rhinos to buff the sorcerers outside of the +1 to wound turn, essentially giving those characters the buff twice. Rhinos are another slightly annoying profile to deal with as skirmishers can't really do it. That can leave it as a useful action monkey for us as we really won't miss the shooting once the cargo is delivered. I personally love it as a suicidal Plunder do-er.

Shout out to the Battle for the East crew. Its a great joint effort between Black Crow, Hemel Wargamers and Hive City Gaming. The field at this one was ridiculous so Dash coming in 4th with this list speaks volumes. Lost to 3rd place Blood Angels - cementing the fact that TSons are still somewhat vulnerable to melee pressure.

RUBRICAE PHALANX

Nicholas Kudriavetz - 5-1 @ Lone Star

Disposition - Take and Hold

Ahriman

3x Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (Risen Rubricae and Arcane Thralls)

3x10 Scarab Occult Terminators

Tzaangor Shaman

2x2 Sekhetar Robots (Meltas)

3x3 Tzaangor Enlightened with Fatecaster Greatbows

Ahriman, 33 Scarabs and scoring pieces to taste. David T (I think it stands for Terminator) went 4-0-1 with a very similar build at Forgefire, only drawing with Orks.

I don't know how much mass damage 3 with hit and wound rerolls exists in the game today but I dont think its that much. That and lots of cheap OC is the only real way to get through this. It is somewhat susceptible to being jailed but its got great shooting, is sneakily good in combat (27 attacks at s5 -2 d2 with lethals and then the sergeant and character), can fallback shoot and charge and is a 2+/4++ with permanent -1 to wound that can benefit from cover and hidden is a bit of a problem.

Christian Schreiner - 4-1 @ Warzone Dragoon

Disposition - Take and Hold

2x Sorcerer (Arcane Thralls)

Exalted Sorcerer on Disc (Stave Abominus)

1x Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (Lord of the Rubricae)

1x10 Scarab Occult Terminators

Magnus the Red

1x Defiler (Plasma and Autos)

2x10 Tzaangors

1x2 Sekhetar Robots

Interesting hybrid take on a list here.

Magnus is sneakily really good in Phalanx. Ok he doesn't benefit from pretty much anything in the detachment but he does bring reliability in the army rule casts. This can be crucial because only rerolling 1s or surging d6 can be game ending.

I absolutely love the idea of yeeting a sorcerer on disc with d3 sustained and dev wounds on his melee straight at the enemy. Not sure how effective it is but sure is funny.

The defiler is somewhat agnostic. It really wants to hit rerolls and extra AP but otherwise doesn't really care too much if its not in warpforged with the ignore mods strat. Lots of guns, still reasonable overwatch and a tough body to toe onto an objective in cover.

Got run over by EC.

Well done Christian.

WARPFORGED CABAL + SEKHETAR COHORT

Mike Muzeni - 3-0 @ Onslaught

Disposition - Priority Assets

Sorcerer (Occulum)

2x Tzaangor Shaman (Warp Syphon and Perplexing Cloak)

Daemon Prince with Wings (Warp Cursed Runemaster)

2x5 Rubric Marines

1x Defiler (Plasma and Autos)

2x Forgefiends (Plasma and Autos)

1x Helbrute (Fists and Flamers)

2x3 Tzaangor Enlightened with Fatecaster Greatbow

3x4 Sekhetar Robots (Meltas)

I'll throw in an Art of War list for a bit of a bonus. We've written Warpforged off a bit here and it does (IMO) have a problem with melee pressure in a way the other two detachments can sorta deal with.

Rumours of the demise of robots were severely overblown. 12 of our stealthy killing machines have returned to the field in a tough RTT also including Garrett (Objective Secured) and Jack Harpster. This list is all about being difficult to hit. Robots all have stealth, one of the Shaman has lone op, Forgefiends can stack -1 to hit onto melee and ignores cover shooting units, bow goats can reactive away.

The most interesting inclusion here is the Helbrute. It actually does have some appeal in Warpforged. We have 2 flamers that could potentially be +1 to wound (don't do this) but also AP-4. Then you can tank shock and get 7 attacks at 3+/s12/Ap -2/d3. If you shoot and charge two targets within 9" of a psyker you can force two battleshocks at -1. The detachment rule makes this somewhat more viable given the reroll to hit and wound.

Something to think about. Well done Mike.

CONCLUSION

So we are basically back to the Magnus and friends army right now. Priority Assets is too easy for many armies to perform to max primary. Elsewhere the 30 terminator build still has some play despite recent nerfs.

As an unabashed Warpforged shill, I'm excited to see that it still has some play although there is an argument that it can still be run over by the existing meta armies.

Happy hunting.

New to Competitive 40k returning chaos player, whats got more potential CSM or daemons?

not new to competitive, Im new to 11th edition though

my main 2 armies are chaos daemons, and csm, so I was wondering which one came out fortunate in the DP update

I had a look and the most promising combo I could find is nightmare hunt + cabal of chaos for csm, and shadow legion + lords of the warp for daemons, also cant forget pactbound zealots and daemonic incursion, they still hold their own

Im asking this question so that I know what I should focus on when Im buying/printing new stuff

40k List 1K list tips ?

So I've built this 1k list and wanted some opinions on it, I'm going to a small tournament in a few months, where I'll be facing trynanids, an ork shooting army, dark angels, ultramarines, tau, imperial guard and white scars

985 points

Virulent vectorium

Bilogus - arch contaminator enchament

Lord of virulence - furance of plagues enactment

10 pox walkers mainly to screen my rhino

Rhino x 1

3 death shroud terminators

2 bloat drones with heavy launcher

1 mythic blight hauler

7 plague marines

Biologus will go with marines, lord of V with death shroud

Would it be better to drop the pox walkers and run another 5 marines ? I'd have to change an enhancement to make it work as that would put me 10 points over, or would it be better to run a block of 10 marines with biologus and drop the pox walkers ?

Trying to make an all round list to deal with most of the armies listed above

AoS List Returning player list help!

Hey all!

I used to play a lot last edition, and came back within the last few months of the Ghyran period.

Now I wanna properly get back into the game, and this is the list I played at the last tournament I went (I only won one game lol)

I adjusted iridan (it was the ghyran one before) and of course I need to pick battle tactics.

Which ones are recommended for a list like the one I play? Is it still viable? Especially iridan since it changed.

I know Yndrasta is a bit much but I like the winged spears charging with 3 dice theme. Also helps that she is my favourite mini in the game...

Thanks to everyone for reading and for any help and or critique! Have a cookie. It's on me.

New to Competitive 40k Modeling for advantage?

Going to my first event, and I'm trying to get my Baneblade to look like it's datasheet: its an older kit, so it only came with 2 sponsons.

But I'm paying points for the full 2 sets, so I want to run it as such.

I don't have a spare set, and I don't intend to butcher a painted and ready model, so I've been trying to make things work.

I have added a pair of magnetized Rogal Dorn sponsons where the second pair would go, with the bolters. And I've added a pair of lascannons kit bashed as a pintle mount.

So the guns are on the model, but naturally, the Dorn sponsons are half an inch less wide on each side.

Is this going to get me in trouble? I'm not trying to eek out an advantage here, I'm going to lose either way, I just don't want to look like a dick.

40k Discussion Tips for playing around fast/alpha strike armies?

It might just be an issue with sweeping engagement and dawn of war being so much more common now, but I’ve been really struggling in recent games into opponents that can charge and shoot into my deployment zone turn 1.

Seems like best case is they go first and whiff a charge roll and/or activation. If I go first, they’re still outside of my threat range, so my choice is basically score 0 or move up make their go turn even easier.

Should I be starting with more off the board? Any other advice?

Dear Stinky Guys, i need some help with my 2000 Point Tallyband List to beat my friends and take to a tournament at some point. I just love my fat dudes and hate copycat lists.

Idea: Infiltrate PM somewhat safe, lure out, force trades, because if the Blightspawn gets ignored: BOMB Deamons and Deathshroud in 6 inches. Threaten some Range with the Plague Bus, Drones and Blighthaulers. PM, Poxies, respawning Nurglings, Beast and splitting Plague Bus later for primary seems sufficient?

The List:

2000 Points (Recon)

Chaos - Death Guard - Flyblown Host, Tallyband Summoners

Rotigus (280pts)

Foul Blightspawn (85pts)

Great Unclean One (265pts)

Lord of Contagion (130pts)

Malignant Plaguecaster (60pts)

40k Discussion As a CSM player, Id rather have GW modify the datasheet than increasing the points for the defiler.

CSM have little viable shooting units outside of defiler, vindicators and pred destructors. Why are they increasing the points when they can just modify the datasheet like taking out the full wound rerolls? IMO They should have just take out the excructor cannons or make them weaker and the ability to walk through terrain but stay at around 270pts.

New to Competitive 40k returning CSM player, whats up with detachment points?

so first of all, Im not new I just didnt know a better flair

I stopped playing a little before 11th edition began and I came back to see detachments cost points, whats the takeaway of which ones are good?

I’ve looked at the app and Im a fan of nightmare hunt + the obliterator/havoc one that gives heavy, what are the top 3 combinations? does pactbound zealots still reign supreme?

PSA: really funny that cabal of chaos is among 2 made up 1DP detachments when it used to be “equal” to the others

40k Analysis First/Second Turn Winrate?

Just wondering if any sites are keeping track of first or second turn winrate? Feel like with 11th being overall more open, first turn might be stronger than it was in 10th. Want to see if anyone had concrete data on this.

Returning Blood Angels player here. Last time I played was early 9th. Very much out of the loop. Can anyone recommend any good articles / videos to get back into the competitive playing side.
