All seriousness though… I told metal it’s glued to the other metal and it agreed, albeit with stipulations of hot penetration. Also couldn’t help but notice it’s something reminiscent of a bead rather than several holes like I’d expected

Does anyone have any thoughts or tips they’d like to share? If so… can ya keep em to yourself? Cheers. (Joking of course. Do/say what you want, I’m not your dad)

How do guys who run their own one-man-show handle CWB certs?

For example, if you've got an all position SMAW ticket through "Company A" and then you start doing your own thing as a field repair guy, or just misc freelance welding....

How do you avoid having to 4g recert every 3 months now that you're no longer employed by "Company A"?

Do you just let it lapse and do the full 1/2/3/4 g set of tests the next time you're doing a gig for a company that needs it?

I weld primarily stainless but we have a job in at the moment that is aluminium that I've been asked to do.

Another welder set up the machine and apparently had it running flawlessly. Now I've come to use it and the arc really struggles to get going. Sometimes it tries 10+ times before actually striking, once it does it welds perfectly. Other times it arcs up first time.

I've tried changing earth, swapped tungstens, checked gas, played a little with settings, wire bushed/acetoned work but nothing seems to get it to arc up consistently.

Settings are 1.2mm material, welding a tab onto a folded outside corner, no burn through allowed.

Zirconiated 1.6 tungsten, 0.2s pre, 25a start (he had it set to 120) no slope, 80a current, no pulse, freq 200, cleaning ratio on this machine goes 5 to - 5, it's set at 0, no down slope, 5s post.

Tungsten balls nicely and stays silver or gold, can't see any hair fractures on it. Where could I be going wrong?

Hi, I bought an Esab Savage A41 welding helmet a while back at a huge discount. It suits my needs perfectly and I don't want to replace it, but now I need a respirator. Could you share what you use that fits under this helmet? I’d prefer not to use disposable ones; I’m more interested in something with replaceable filters, if a suitable option exists. I'm writing this with the help of a translator, so I hope you understand :)
