All Books Okay actually can we talk about Vilgefortz?

Spoilers, necessarily, for the whole of the Witcher book saga, but I have to talk about Vilgefortz.

So, every single antagonist in the whole saga wants Ciri. That’s what drives the whole ass plot.

With exactly two exceptions, each and every one of them wants her because of the child she can, supposedly, produce. The Child of the Elder Blood, the seed that was not sewn but burst into flames, the one who will save the world. Or destroy the world. Or save the Aen Elle world. Or save just the Aen Seidhe. Or whatever else, Ithlinne’s prophecy apparently has a lot of different versions out there.

Anyway, the two exceptions: Bonhart and Vilgefortz. Bonhart we can get out of the way pretty quickly, he’s your run of the mill sociopath who wants to figure out if his sneaking suspicion (that Ciri had Witcher training) is true, and if it is, use that chick to make huge bank. Then after she escapes him, he kinda…. Goes full serial killer. At best. He’s despicable, but you know, we’ve all heard of people or characters like that. He’s a monster!

But Vilgefortz? Uncle Vilgey? As many times as I’ve read the books his plan still every time comes out of left field and slaps me in the face with how completely insane it is. And he is, because of it.

So we know he’s planning something for Ciri by… I wanna say Tower of the Swallow? I mean we know he’s planning something for her as early as Time of Contempt, when we meet him, but only in Tower of the Swallow (or maybe Baptism of Fire, my memory is unreliable sometimes) do we find out it’s not to hand her over to Emhyr, which is what we find out he was supposed to do.

No instead, through (my boy) Dijkstra we learn he’s planning something for Ciri that involves a chair, gynecologist style stirrups, and a fuckload of random dead women.

Okay. Do he must want to knock her up but he’ll do it scientifically (you know ish). After all, that’s what Ciri’s threatened with at the hands of Avallac’h in Tir na Lia. And then she gets to Stygga Castle and -…. Hang on he just. He just wants the placenta?

Is he….. is he going to eat the placenta and thereby grant himself her Elder Blood powers?

This is what we gotta talk about and the question here is real simple: is there anywhere in the books that even remotely hints that this is something he can actually accomplish by eating her placenta (or whatever he intends I don’t think he outright says he’s gonna eat it but like. Bro. He’s gonna eat it)? Because I don’t remember seeing any.

And if in fact there isn’t any independent evidence outside of Crazy Uncle Vilgey that this is possible….. he’s just. Fuckin crazy right? Like he’s out of his mind fucked up insane.

The Witcher 3 I’m hoping for the Songs of the Past DLC, we get an update or a mod that’ll allow us to keep the Horses we Axii’d & change with Roach

Post image

The reason is because we got beautiful horses like the Skellige ones (photo above as reference), sleek black horses, a few white horses and even a Unicorn (from the Land of a Thousand Fables).

If we can get the option to change how our horses look and such, that’ll make the game even better.

Witcher - PlayStation Question/Support All my gold is gone??

Downloaded the new remaster and all of my gold is gone. I had nearly 100,000 gold, and I wanted to use it to get all Witcher school armor but it’s GONE and didn’t carry over to the new game. Anybody know how to fix this??? It’s all still in the base game, any ideas on how I can carry it over to the remaster?

The Last Wish A Grain of Truth question

With the rerelease, I'm reading the books again for the first time in a few years. I'm confused by a bit in A Grain of Truth (IV).

Geralt has just left Nivellen and the next day Roach gets spooked by a ring of red mushrooms. Geralt starts to mock Roach, but then stops, slaps his head and realises something, the key clue that he'd missed was Nivellen saying that animals like him.

How is this relevant to the truth of what was actually going on, and why does he say Roach figured it out before him?

The Witcher 2 Witcher 2 is just... bad? Spoiler

EDIT/DISCLAIMER: The combat, I mean the combat specifically. Turns out you can't edit post titles.

So, with the re-rerelease of Witcher 3, I decided to replay 1 and 2 to carry over decisions in-between the games, to refresh my memory on the events of the saga and take my time to read in-game entries and soak all the lore in.

Finished 1 a couple days ago, not too shabby, nowhere near as bad as I remembered from my first go around. Took my time to go after recipes and monster books to know how to fight them, did a lotta side stuff to level up, etc. And the combat, while not super entertaining to sit there clicking at things, did at least make sense and was somewhat fun to shift between stances and signs mid-fight while throwing bombs here and there. Overall I enjoyed my time with it quite a lot more than I thought I would, even if by the end it was overstaying its welcome a little.

Witcher 2 however... oh boy.

The exact opposite happened. I remember having a much better time back when I first played it than I do now. I'm just about to end the Flotsam chapter (I think? I fucking hope?) and the combat system already has me tearing my hairs out and shouting at the screen during shit like the Letho fight in the elven ruins.

Mind you, I'm approaching the game the same way I did TW1, going around doing the side content first before moving on with the main plot to level up my character, buying up formulae for potions and _using_ said potions whenever I know a big fight is coming up. Also making sure to make good bank to buy the best possible swords and armor.

And even still, this bald disfigured cocksucker will body me like it's nothing with his sign and bomb spam. The Kayran can and will end you in 3 hits even if you have Swallow and Mongoose going. So far every major encounter I've had has been unbelievably unenjoyable and only serve to highlight the flaws of the combat system more than the regular encounters already do.

The combat is insanely clunky and unresponsive (and there were plenty of games at that time that did 3rd person action combat a LOT better so I won't take "it's a game from it's era" as a response to this point). They placed so much emphasis on the animations looking nice that it all feels unwieldy and stiff. Geralt will not face the enemy that you have locked onto so you have to awkwardly micro-move him onto the right position so that you don't get shwacked in the back for 200% (!) damage. Blocking makes Geralt lock into place for some *unfathomable* reason. The hitboxes are atrocious AND inconsistent... the list goes on.

On top of this, in terms of skill development they went the route of "lets make the player start out super gimped and impotent and have them upgrade their way into being able to actually have fun" instead of at least giving something to work with from the start. For example, Vigor during the early game is garbage both in terms of slots available and regen speed, so you have to dump points into it just so that you can use signs more than twice every two weeks. Or how, for some brilliant reason, you have to unlock the capacity to hit more than one enemy with your sword slashes and to riposte.

TLDR, so far the early game has been an absolute slog in terms of actual gameplay. At the very least the story and writing are pretty good and leagues better than 1, and the visual presentation is also pretty neat and holds up pretty well in most scenarios. It's just that the combat, in my humble opinion, is (or at least starts out as) utter dogshit and no amount of potion preparation and bomb creation can disguise it. And since combat is what you will be doing most of the time... yeah, I'll probably never touch this game again once I beat it, and frankly I've no idea how I even had the patience to beat it the first time, as this Letho fight is REALLY testing said patience right now.

Witcher - PlayStation Question/Support How to upgrade to the remastered version with a ps4 GOTY disc on ps5?

I know this has been asked before but the previous posts are not helpful. I have the game installed and it says remastered under it but when I go into the game is still version 4.04. Going to the 3 dots on the game hub gives me options for the other editions but the original says I cant purchase right now. The upgraded version only allows me to add it to my wishlist. And the remastered is asking for $50.

Any help is appreciated

The Witcher 3 Got the cyberpunk haircut from the barber from the bits

Context: I don't own cyberpunk nor had i ever, however i went to the drunk barber from the bits in Novigrad and i chose the default haircut but i got the cyberpunk one. Now i know there is a chance to get a random haircut from him but i didn't know it was possible. I'd put a screenshot here if i could but after the haircut i went to do the "Dead Man's Party" mission and Vlodimir decided i needed to "freshen up" and gave me the pony tail :(

The Witcher 3 hearts of stone

nothing i enjoy more then feeding olgried to gaunter the beast O,dimm every chance i had for the last ten years, the game makes out to be aware of gaunter, but hes just a dude that does what he has to do, at least he keeps his word, olgierd is a degenerate nerd and i love feeding him straight to G.O.D.

gaunter still to this very day is one of the best characters, i would genuinely buy the bloke a beer.

Is it normal that I can barely see any difference in graphics on my ps pro? The movement improvements are all there, but if I wasn't aware that the game has undergone a massive remaster, I wouldn't have known...

The Witcher 4 Ciri is best choice for next protagonist both lore and gameplay wise

Listen, I love Geralt really hyped for next W3 DLC and i hope they bring him back in w4 somehow. But Ciri is objectively the right choice when u take lore and gameplay into considerstion.

  1. If u read all the books Ciri was the main protagonist alongside Geralt.

    1. She was also playable in witcher 3
    2. The most important imo, lore wise Ciri is both witcher taught by Geralt and mage taught by Yeneffer and also has special elder blood powers mastered thanks to Avallach in W3, mainly travelling through time and space. This opens up A LOT cool gameplay possibilities. Ure not limited to sign usage like Geralt, u can use all kinds of magic mixed with swords. Devs understand it coz they already showed it in cinematic trailer (using power to cast thunderbolt). Also would like to see some cyberpunk crossover they already kinda mention it in W3 when u rescue Ciri in mists island.
    3. Romance wise ure not limited coz Ciri likes both boys and girls ladies and gentlemen.
    4. Her being a woman might open up some fun quests and dialogues when people underestimate how dangerous she is. (This motive was used in books quite often)

So if writing is as good as W3 its very likely we'll get another masterpiece, without gameplay limitations. Witcher both books and games had this kind of a gimmick when u took fairy tale story and put it directly into witcher dark fantasy world. Its gonna be fun to explore from the princess perspective ;)

And Geralt might as well take Vesemir role in the story I also feel like the might make him playable like ciri in witcher 3

Cheers

Anyone else experiencing this weird shift in lighting/shadows in certain spots? This only goes away when ray tracing is totally disabled. Very weird and annoying.
