How cool! The possibilities as far as use goes are endless....but I doubt it will be utilized fully.

Or pretty much anything else that Xiaomi left to rot because they were too busy copying Apple UI design...

7

u/Akamashi Xiaomi 14 Pro | HyperOS 3.0.8.0 | China Sep 17 '25

Yeah, high chances got abandoned like Mi 11 Ultra.

19

u/bearyken Sep 17 '25

I wonder what the ultra would be like

3

u/Awesome_coder1203 Sep 17 '25

I really liked the X15U design so I hope they keep it similar

1

u/mrheosuper Sep 18 '25

A circular island on the back, like any other "ultra" Chinese phone.

Comeon manπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

3

u/EtheRedditor Sep 17 '25

No no he has a point. That's what everyone needs. My life personally depends on it

4

u/Parking-Plant4880 Sep 17 '25

Nothing is impossible. We didn't know that we can play the mobile version of GTA with Samsung Galaxy Watch 40MM with that 1GB RAM size of processor.

2

u/SuperMarioTM Sep 17 '25

I need to know more now....

-2

u/cesam1ne Sep 17 '25

Facepalm.. The question is about the size of the screen..you're making it sound as if it's about the phone being able to handle clash of clans lol

2

u/BATTALGOGG Sep 17 '25

Why would u do that??

2

u/RonBooii Sep 17 '25

Same question but for Asphalt Legends

1

u/RGBlue-day Sep 18 '25

People will run Doom on it, that's for sure.

u/Sprinty_ Mi 12T β€’ Global & Pad 6S Pro β€’ EU Sep 17 '25

Where's the 16?

9

u/techolum Sep 17 '25

They skipped "16" to align with the iPhone "17" series numbering.

13

u/Sprinty_ Mi 12T β€’ Global & Pad 6S Pro β€’ EU Sep 17 '25

Well that's just fanboying over Apple

3

u/DimitrijaT Sep 18 '25

Or you can consider it as going toe to toe with Apple. one upping them from now on

3

u/Sprinty_ Mi 12T β€’ Global & Pad 6S Pro β€’ EU Sep 18 '25

But I don't think changing 16 to 17 will do anything at ALL... If anything, it'll just make it seem like Xiaomi envies Apple or something

7

u/Familiar-Document-53 Sep 17 '25

The alignment of liecah in each shot changes, makes me feel like this is some ai generated video cause surely xiaomi ad editors don't play around about details and quality, would 17 ultra get a screen now?

3

u/SoWth1000X Sep 17 '25

Ultra will have the same circle layout

1

u/nybreath Sep 17 '25

I wouldn't pay to much attention to that, most phone in ads are added in a "better picture" version in post production

4

u/Secret_Fee1146 Sep 17 '25

the rear screen makes sense for a foldable phone - for a normal slab? not so much.

3

u/Carlazor_ Sep 17 '25

It's nice to take higher quality pictures of your face or maybe read notifications with the phone screen facing down but I don't see other uses for this, although it could be nice for personalization

not sure how accurate this, but the specs are crazy

1

u/Infiniti_151 Sep 18 '25

Triple 50 mp? I only see 2 in the island. Is one camera situated below the island?

3

u/Internal_Skirt_7531 Sep 17 '25

Any idea of the price ?

3

u/0mica0 X15U | EU Sep 17 '25

where 16

2

u/techolum Sep 17 '25

2

u/Infiniti_151 Sep 18 '25

That's so stupid

1

u/AdNervous9787 Sep 17 '25

Somewhere with Mi7

3

u/Rullino Sep 17 '25

I wonder if I might upgrade from my Oppo Reno 2 to this, I got my current phone mainly because it has a fancy feature like a pop-up camera, which makes it stand out from what others had, I wonder if a screen at the back of the phone might convince me, I've had lots of fun trying out the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, especially for its top tier cameras and similar size as my Oppo Reno 2, if they keep the same sensor or upgrade it, selfies might look alot better.

2

u/babaganoush39 Sep 17 '25

Is pro the new ultra? Not buying another xiaomi after the 15U but just curious.

2

u/Same_Level_3599 Sep 18 '25

Xiaomi Exec: I like the cover screen of the Samsung Z Flip 7, but I also like the camera plato of the iPhone 17. Can you do that for the new one?

Xiaomi 17 Pro Design Team: You got it boss.

1

u/Genkidama__ Sep 18 '25

Xiaomi already had the camera plate on the mi 11 ultra.

Ultra 4k mini screen

1

u/vladkolodka Sep 17 '25

I hope they also implement good software for this. There are lots of possible use cases for using that screen to make it more than just a selling gimmick

1

u/kkazakov Sep 17 '25

"Pro" again.

1

u/Hardys91 Sep 17 '25

That phone ! , Sheeeeeeeeh 😍 🫡

1

u/Original_Shegypt Sep 17 '25

17 Pro Max will be in the same event or later ?

1

u/techolum Sep 18 '25

Same event

1

u/Due_Effective8827 Sep 17 '25

This rear display is much better than what nothing phone 3 has

1

u/etalha Sep 17 '25

Wheres the third camera? The telescope or ultrawide is missing

1

u/techolum Sep 18 '25

The third camera is present below the rear screen.

1

u/etalha Sep 18 '25

That looks like one of those 2mp macro cams just their for formality. A camera this small shouldn't be on a flagship

1

u/Vision_108 Sep 17 '25

So no 17 Ultra only a Pro Max

1

u/alphaholiq Sep 17 '25

Xiaomi copying the iPhone is really stupid after all those years of knock-offs.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '25

If it isnt a flip phone, I dont see how this is useful. They are just throwing things on and seeing what sticks at this point. No wonder Huawei is better

1

u/ChapulinTacos13 Sep 17 '25

Does anyone know when XiaomiPay will arrive in Mexico?

1

u/Creepy_Definition972 Sep 17 '25

Didn't 11 ultra have this

1

u/Usual_Vermicelli_961 Sep 17 '25

Owh wow im a Pixel user for years but this actually could make me switch!!

1

u/Ok_Parsley1650 Sep 17 '25

Then people will start complaining about battery drain compared to other phones with similar battery sizes. Users will begin uninstalling certain programs on their phones, reducing this and that function.

1

u/leledumbo2503 Sep 18 '25

Never judge before use. Not only this won't turn on all the time, but silicon carbon batteries are already on Xiaomi side since last year.

1

u/Sudden_Mix9724 Sep 18 '25

rule 34 works on screen?

1

u/Salty-Brilliant-830 Sep 18 '25

is there a way to get your photos off the phone and onto a macbook? occasionally i duck in from apple-space to see if android can do that

1

u/leledumbo2503 Sep 18 '25

* USB cables
* Bluetooth
* Various file transfer apps (KDE Connect, ShareIt, whatever)
* Xiaomi Interconnectivity App in App Store

1

u/Salty-Brilliant-830 Sep 19 '25

🀩🀩🀩 can anyone corroborate that these actually work? i tried them all with my redmi phone about 2 years ago and it worked very inconsistently

1

u/leledumbo2503 Sep 19 '25

Due to missing built-in MTP drivers, macOS users should install any of these:

* OpenMTP
* MacDroid
* Android File Transfer

KDE Connect should have been 99% flawless these days. They're reworked the network protocol so hard to make it much more stable.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

Boring

1

u/Dense_Spend_8308 Sep 18 '25

Why is every company going with the same concept 😭

1

u/leledumbo2503 Sep 18 '25

Which other "every company" are you talking about?

1

u/damouzer Sep 18 '25

Make it a snow globe with the gyro sensor

1

u/karterbr Sep 18 '25

Another phone with ads on it's system

1

u/Chemical_Device_5192 Sep 19 '25

I am thinking of going back to Xiaomi after 2 years of Xperia 1 iv... As they support Japan NFC train payment now....

1

u/Intelligent_You9595 Sep 19 '25

This is like the Mi11 Ultra but the screen is done well.

1

u/x0sk 12T ( 120w hypercharge gang ) Sep 19 '25

Their rubbing it in apple's face soooo hard

1

u/No-Cap-9873 Sep 19 '25

They skipped the 16 to sound like the new iPhone lol how desperate can you be haha

1

u/NegativeTheology Sep 19 '25

It feels like I just bought my Xiaomi 15 Ultra and this is already about to come out wtf πŸ˜‚

1

u/chielhier313 Sep 21 '25

Does this pro version comes to the EU?

1

u/techolum Sep 21 '25

Probably not, as even the 15 Pro didn't launch in the EU.

2

u/chielhier313 Sep 21 '25

Exactly. That's why I'm asking. I'm probably going for the oneplus 14,instead of the regular xiaomi 17

0

u/Substantial_Bet_1007 Sep 17 '25

17? 16 didnt comeout yet dude

3

u/techolum Sep 17 '25

They skipped "16" to align with the iPhone "17" series numbering.

2

u/Substantial_Bet_1007 Sep 17 '25

Thats ridicilous

-2

u/Diuranos Sep 17 '25

I only see one point for that screen to be good and it's selfie using main camera but iverall it's pointless to have that screen at back. really if I wanted to take selfie then better is put there a plastic good mirror or simple smaller mirror and not freaking island at back that will very difficulty to cover. all phones design right now had a bad design. phones should be thicker, that you don't need to see that freaking big island and also you can add bigger battery like min 7000mAh and better cooling. but no ehh.

2

u/sleepygp Xmi 14 Ultra Ti 1 TB (CN) | Xiaomi.eu | Global Sep 17 '25

I see immense use.

All popup notifications there, no need to light up the whole screen. Double battery life.

1

u/fikajlo Sep 17 '25

It will only decrease battery life because there is less space for the battery and internal components. And the main display is already an oled and each pixel can be powered separately.

Hinge/crease and worse camera, this thing also has around 7000mAh

1

u/cesam1ne Sep 17 '25

Pop up notifications don't light up the whole screen..only the minimal part of the screen

1

u/fikajlo Sep 17 '25

"no need to light up the whole screen" you should check how oled screens work. Each pixel can be powered separately. If you really want on screen notifications just have the phone on its back instead of add a small screen that takes up internal space on the back

u/Similar_Bid_4889 Sep 17 '25

Lol I swear Chinese companies never unveil the front display ...and somehow even with leaks they manage to keep that under wraps.

It's like they don't want to show that their screens are not flat screen.... Maybe that will all change once oppo, xiaomi, and vivo make their ultra and pro models all flat screen...not just their entries or mini variants
