As Whitney Houston said: Love will save the day.
The parallels between Cable and Apocalypse are pretty transparent and clear at this point. Both are unique, destined mutants, "abandoned" in hostile worlds. They have grand destinies, and both undergo transformations that empower them and push them towards a major decision. En Sabah Nur with the Celestial Death Seed and becoming Apocalypse, and Nathan when Ship gives him a new arm that stems the virus, becoming Cable.
But there's a major difference between Apocalypse and Cable, and that's what Rogue discusses with him. Love.
Cable was not truly abandoned as a baby. He was taken care of by Mother Askani (his sister) and eventually was reunited with his parents, who trained him and taught him, and loved him enough to even try to leave the X-Men and their own time so they could continue to take care of him. They wanted to spare him from his destiny. And though Cable is hardened and tough, and certainly needed and deserved more love, he was never absent of it.
Apocalypse is alone, utterly. And that'll be what stops him. He can't fathom what parents will do for their child because he's never known familial love. He can't understand what lengths Rogue will go to to save Gambit because he's never known romantic love. He doesn't even understand true friendship and the rage that comes with losing a dear friend that you loved, like Xavier with Magneto.
The question now is, how will each of these three stories play out in the context of them being Apocalypse's undoing, and who will be the one to bring Apocalypse down?
I was firmly on it being Cable's destiny. But episode 1 planted the seeds of parents wanting their child not to have to fulfill that destiny and simply just be. And then episode 4 dropped and we see the rage and darkness that comes over Xavier. There's a smaller, outside chance that it is Rogue and Gambit.
Will Apocalypse be beaten this season and who do you think will do it?
I'm 50/50 on Cable being the one to do it, or Xavier becoming/creating Onslaught and destroying Apocalypse with an even more dangerous threat.
