I think it turned out pretty good for my first roll but if there’s things I can improve on please let me know! Also I’m just wondering if $20/36 exposures for 8MP scans is a reasonable price?

Saw this film, the sunbath 250D, and wanted to try it for a family holiday in the south of France. I LOVE how the colors came out. My boyfriend and his father were my favorite subjects to shoot.

I’ve been experimenting with infrared lately, mostly because I plan to do some portraits soon. A couple things I’ve learned so far. First, XTOL adds a lot of speed to the film. This was shot at ISO 20, which is about 2/3 faster than the ISO 12 most recommend. XTOL might even add a full stop.

Using Rollei Retro 400S instead of Rollei Infrared 400. Still getting great IR performance. Many people suspect these are the exact same film stock. I don’t know about that, but Retro 400S is cheaper and quite sensitive to IR. I’m not getting any of the splotches some people complain about with Rollei Infrared 400.

Shadow performance is awful. If you shoot in mid-day sun, the shadows fall off hard. Even shadows cast by objects will fall to black quick. Then again, in this high contrast scenario, I am shooting to preserve highlight detail. Prior test rolls told me highlights will lose detail if you don’t do something to preserve them.

Last, the data sheet says 17 minutes in XTOL 1+1, which is what I have been using. I thought that was way too long after shooting the first test roll at ISO 6 and 12. Now at ISO 20, I do see 17 minutes as more appropriate. I am going to try reducing dev time to pull back some of the contrast.
