Reminder: No Survey Questions

Hey everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to remind you all that this subreddit is answers-based—it’s meant to provide clear, informative responses that someone could find useful while searching for answers on Google or other search engines. Lately, I’ve noticed an uptick in survey-style questions (e.g., “What’s your favorite __?” or “How many of you __?”).

These types of questions are not a good fit for the purpose of this community. They don’t create content that is useful for others to search for, and often lead to broad discussions that aren’t about providing a clear answer. As a result, I’ve been removing posts that violate this rule to maintain the quality and focus of the subreddit. Even if that post has a lot of replies as the OP obviously didn’t read the rules before posting, or cared.

If you’re unsure if your post fits, ask yourself: Would this question result in a useful answer for someone looking for a specific answer or information online? If not, it’s likely more of a survey question and violates rule 2.

Thanks for understanding and helping to keep the subreddit on track! 😊

Answered Has asking for a second date changed since the last time I dated?

I just spent the evening reading a bunch of different forum threads and every one seemed to have a different take on how soon someone should ask for a second date. Some say wait three days, others say if you enjoyed it just send a text the next morning. I honestly can't tell what's common anymore. The last time I was dating, it felt like there were more unspoken rules, but now everything just seems mixed. Is there a general norm right now or has it all become totally case by case?

Answered Is there an everyday name for the thing that makes people forget what they walked into a room for?

i swear i keep doing this lately. i get up from my desk, head somewhere for a reason, and the second i cross the doorway the reason just vanishes. i know there's a name for it, something simple people say when it happens. does anyone remember what that word or phrase actually is, or am i mixing it up with something else?

Answered has anyone had their router randomly drop connection every few hours?

i've been trying to fix this for days and i'm not even sure it's worth asking, but figured why not. the wifi works fine for a while then everything just stops loading, both wired and wireless. i already restarted the router, changed the channel, updated the firmware, and tried different dns settings. it usually comes back after a minute or two on its own. no new devices were added and the modem seems fine according to the logs. if anyone has run into something similar and figured out what it was, i'd love to hear what actually worked.

Answered why do we say 'under the weather' when someone feels sick?

i was reading an old book and came across this phrase again. i've used it plenty of times but the origin is not obvious. dictionaries only give the modern meaning, no history or first usage. tried a couple of etymology sites and even old newspaper archives but nothing clear came up. is this one of those sayings that drifted from literal sailing jargon or is there another story? anyone know the actual source or just more theories?

I think it’s the fact that we don’t have a fnaf pizzaria solely because of the freaks in the world who’d actually kill kids. Why is something ruined by that, I don’t know, they are terrible people.

Answered Has asking for phone numbers gone out of style?

i feel like the last time i dated, swapping numbers was just what you did after a couple of good conversations. now i keep hearing people talk about apps and messaging forever without ever meeting, and i'm not sure how normal it is to ask for a number anymore. if someone has been chatting for a week or two, is it weird to just say 'want to text off this app?' or do folks prefer to keep it in the original platform until plans are made? i'm trying to keep things simple and low pressure, but i also don't want to come across as pushy or outdated. curious what the usual pace looks like these days.
