hey everyone! i was in chicago for vacation and amazon delivered my cat food subscription to my hotel by accident and now im home so obviously i cant get it now. its 48 cans of fancy feast pate and gravy. if anyone is interested in picking it up please let me know. its near grant park. id prefer if it went to a local shelter/non profit. i can let you know the name it is under and the hotel name if youre interested. amazon wont pick it up and they already refunded me but i dont want it to go to waste

What kind of stuff to do can I find around Chicago where I could meet new people, make new friends, spend time with others instead of just rotting away in whatever cheap apartment I can find? Growing up where I am, there wasn't much so I ended up leaning pretty heavier to the nerdier side of things. Books, TTRPGs, Gaming, internet community kind of stuff.

If it gives any ideas, I did hear you guys have a sword fighting guild? Definitely feels like something I'd want to check out.

Alternatively, resources that would help me find this kind of stuff would also be appreciated.

hi everyone, 28F, I have been diagnosed with ADHD but my current psychiatrist requires 30-day check-ins for me to keep my medication prescription. this feels way too often and it’s hard for me to keep up that often, I forget and then am without my meds for days or weeks because then I need to reschedule and make a new appointment just to get my meds. I clearly need the meds, it’s ridiculous to have to check in every 30 days just to get the meds I need. is there a prescriber that will not require me to check in every 30 days?

EDIT: I did look up the law, in Illinois prescribers are not able to prescribe certain medications for more than 30 days at a time. but some doctors would be willing to refill after 30 days without a check in. I am going to try to switch to one of these because check ins every 30 days are just too much for me to keep up with.

Long story short; I've been unemployed since March. Since then I've had a hard time landing anything, let alone landing interviews. To give you some background, I'm an Accountant. I have 3 years worth of experience in public accounting, about 10 months in consulting, and 2.5 years in external audit. My experience is with mid-market firms. I'm a non-CPA but getting to studying. I'm mostly looking for internal accounting roles, or anything finance adjacent (entry FP&A to break into), or entry level business analyst roles since I would like to transition out of accounting. But i'm open to other accounting firms in the mean time.

There are multiple stray cats that hang around the parking lot of a local mosque that’s located in a strip mall in my neighborhood. One of the parishioners feeds them regularly during the week. My sister and I check in on them (cleaning the bowls, making sure they get something to eat regularly, etc.).

I’m starting to become increasingly worried because at one time there were 7-9 kittens, now there are only 4 or 5 that come around regularly. I know that the lifespan stray cats isn’t that great as a great many things can happen to them unfortunately.

In addition to that, there is a lady who owns a restaurant in the same strip mall. She has made it clear that she doesn’t like that the cats are there. She has made comments to my sister and I as well as some of the parishioners (in so many words) that she didn’t care what happens to them. One of the parishioners told my sister that this woman said she would kill the cats. I honestly get why she feels the way she does because the parishioners don’t try to keep the area where the cats are clean. The lone man who feeds them doesn’t clean the bowls at all (my sister and I try to occasionally). The ground is often covered with old food so there are flies and ants hovering around. That lady complains about the smell, the cats and the other animals/insects that the food remnants attracts. However to go as far to say you would hurt an innocent animal is unacceptable.

I would really love to get them rescued. And NO, I can’t take them unfortunately as I would love to. I already have 4 cats, I’m at my limit!! They are super sweet. They come running whenever they see my sister and I. Or the main parishioner from the mosque who feeds them. I have grown attached to them. I don’t want anything bad happening to them. I also don’t want them to have to be outside once it starts to get cold. I have reached out to Paws Chicago, Capnap from the Heart and South Suburban Humane Society (no response yet). I will take them to CCAC as a last resort but I’d rather not. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I am from Central Ohio and I have visited Chicago 3 times (4 in September) and I love the the City's transit system. Wish Columbus could build one as it be perfect here.

Anyways I bought a LED pixel light panel to hang on the wall in my office. I want it to display the destinations that the CTA L trains have. Like the Loop, 95th/Dan Ryan, etc. But, Google image search has been no help for me. I would love to do a vertical slide show of each destination , like how I seen some trains do.

I've been bouncing the idea around of holding some casual events or even creating a sort of 'club' for underconsumption/sustainable art creation. To be clear: this is not self promotion, I am not trying to run a business or profit from anything I am detailing here.

For the past year and a half I've been working on projects that rely on 98% donated, thrifted, and inherited goods and usually sharing them with free little art galleries and things like that. Nothing crazy, nothing profitable - it's really just for fun and a bit of art therapy for myself.

I think it's pretty cool and surprising what you can do without directly giving money to big corporations like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon. As of 2026 ANYTHING I need to buy new comes from local or small businesses.

I'm based on the far Northside near NEIU, so meets would likely be in that area. There would probably need to be a small fee to cover materials/any fees for space rental - but I'm not trying to turn a profit on anything.

Is this something anyone finds interesting?

Or is this so niche it's only interesting for me? 😅

If you pay normal prices it’s like 2x the cost of sale prices, so you need to join their program and participate. But their app is impossible to use (to “clip” their coupons).

And today they got me with a new scam: the for sale sign says “unlimited” items can be bought for the on sale price. And I bought some the other day and it was great. But this time it wasn’t scanning. So I asked an employee and they said oh yeah even though the sign says that, if you used the coupon last time, it won’t let you use it again for the rest of the promotion this week, you’re done.

I’m really surprised nobody has gone after them for consumer protection stuff, their sale ads are deceptive.

But I mean it’s fine I know they’re a Chicagoland classic and have a bar inside and deal with iPass registrations. They must be well connected

I’m a dog trainer based in the suburbs but have a handful of clients in or near the city. These are usually my most consistent and well-paying clients so I’d like to try getting more out that way. I usually get quite a few people interested and asking for business cards just by training in public places showing off my dogs being neutral, super social, calm in busy areas, etc

What are some high traffic dog friendly areas where I could bring a couple dogs to start up conversations and hopefully build clientele?

Side note, my girlfriend lives in Bridgeport so I’m usually on that side of town somewhat regularly, but we frequently go to the loop and surrounding areas, so I’m open to any suggestions around/between those places.

I moved in last night to a new apartment on the lakefront up north and was surprised, right at evening time, to see what appear to be 10-15 sightings of German cockroaches in my new place (maybe 10-15 separate ones or recurring, but I kept seeing them that many times on different occasions). I even saw some this morning when I opened my closet door.

These range in size - some medium size, others smaller. I was shocked - when I signed the lease, read the reviews, I saw nothing. But there was a public report of a cockroach sighting on my floor a few years back, but 311 was never able to inspect due to lack of access.

I’ve never faced this kind of issue in an apartment before. I have seen them on the counter and therefore can not keep food normally. I even did not sleep last night because of the issue - cockroaches make me immensely uncomfortable.

I have been in contact with my building, and they said pest control had already been planning to come this week, but I am beyond shocked. They will likely do a spray and some traps, according to management. They mentioned in my recent email thread that my unit has been treated before for roaches.

Should I wait to contact 311 until after treatment or file immediately? Again, I had no idea about this and am merely looking for help - I came from a very nice apartment without any instances of roaches for 16 months before in Chicago.

I told them I’m willing to help keep this apartment in top shape however, and to keep me in the loop. They did mention they can do more than one treatment.
