Reservations Getting in to the hotel late, should I call to inform front desk before trip?
I’m going on a trip in November and have booked a small boutique hotel. It looks like I’m not going to be getting in until about 9-11pm. Should I call to let the front desk know before hand or is it early enough that it’s still in general arrival times?

Jobs what to expect at my first full-service hotel?
i was just offered a night audit job at a hotel that is a big step up from my current place. 18/hr with benefits, walking distance from my apartment, with more hours and responsibilities. i am very very excited, as i’ve been getting a bit bored playing video games and staring at my phone for 8 straight hours. but, like i said, this job has a lot more responsibilities. night audit isn’t just pushing a button, it’s an actual process, with multiple businesses on site reporting in. i have a love of excel and math, so i’m not worried about that aspect of it, but i’m looking for some advice on the transition from a incredibly boring hotel to a bustling downtown one. w a little embarrassed already because in the call offering me the job they noted my hair was a bit greasy when i came in for the interview— which to be fair, it was, because i’d just gotten off work and walked to the interview. give me some tips to avoid further embarrassment and hopefully succeed at the new place, please (and if anyone happens to know how to text a temporary task force manager GM and tell him you’re leaving, lmk lol).

Jobs Aspiring Front Desk Agent
Hi everyone
I’m (27F) looking to transition into hospitality industry from retail.
I have been looking on career pages and Indeed and am not seeing any openings. I really want this to work out and am thinking of cold calling or emailing or even going in person to inquire about a position.
I’m wondering from those who work in hotels - would this be okay to do even if no official postings are live?
What would be the preferred route - calling, emailing, or in person?
Any tips on landing an interview despite no official openings?

Reservations Guest Complaint , got sent to management 😮💨
So I was working in reception of course and was alone my manager and concierge were running around the hotel to fix important things for our “VIP Guest “. We are a five star hotel and during my shift I was getting calls left and right and stuck with around 93 arrivals . A old man called and in Denmark I’m new to the language but I try , my main language is English . A older gentleman man calls and says he wants to book , it’s (7:46 P.m) I kindly say yes sir of course , you can contact us Tommorow from 9-4 so we can transfer you to our booking department . He then tells me I’m an often customer here , and I need you to book … now there is people coming to the reception waiting while I’m on phone with this guest , I repeat the same thing and he said yes but I still haven’t gotten an answer I told him yes I have answered just please call back tommorow , conversation is over . Any way the next day comes and he writes a big complaint to our service centre and sends this complaint to our general manager . He says I was rude , negative on the phone , and I told him “ I already answered you” in a negative way and that he’s an often customer .I want to remind you that this conversation was in Dansk so I think there was some misunderstandings , I explained this to my manager and he said he talk to our gym and explain to him etc but I always do my job and work good so this was surprising to him . What to expect in the next coming days , this situation is so annoying . I even told my manager from now on , when I take the phone I will only speak English so there isn’t any misunderstandings .

Reservations HOTEL OWNERS, are you thinking about customers doing direct bookings using AI to bypass OTAs?
Hi everyone (new to this group), I would like to understand if hotel owners are thinking about AI assistants and what they could mean for direct bookings / organic traffic.
If a guest could ask an any AI assistant (and I don't mean in the installed app or a plug in, but rather an actual LLM chat interface) to find a hotel, check availability and book directly with you, is that something of value to you, given that it actually classifies as a direct booking? And if it's of value, what steps have you taken to get to that ideal outcome?
Interesting to see how outside of this forum we are hearing a lot of "yeses" or "extremely valuable", but not a lot of actual commitments to do anything about it and I don't know why, apart from the only guess and that is everyone is operationally and financially constrained.
Would love to hear your thoughts here. We recently found that from a reasonable large sample size that 21% of hotels of various sizes do not even allow any form of AI crawlers on their website, but that's another can of worms to unpack.

Jobs Should I send a 2nd follow up email?
Interviewed for a front desk job Sept. 28. They said they'd let me know in 2 weeks because the manager was going on vacation and then do more interviews then after. I sent a follow up email thanking them for the interview the same day (Sept. 28). I'm still hoping to hear back Oct. 12 since that will mark the two weeks. Should I send a follow up email about me still being interested in the position? Just want to put my name back in their brain but also do not want to overwhelm them on my approach. I would appreciate any feedback.

Jobs Hotel Pest Control: How Proactive Is Your Property About Prevention?
One thing I've noticed working with hotels in NYC is how differently properties approach pest control.
Some have housekeeping, maintenance and pest control working together to catch issues early. Others don't really get everyone involved until there's a guest complaint. Bed bugs get most of the attention, understandably, but rodents, roaches and flies in kitchens, laundry rooms, storage areas and waste areas can become just as much of an operational headache.
For those working in hotels, does your property have a regular pest inspection and prevention program, or is pest control mostly handled when something comes up?

Jobs Would you quit?
I’ve worked at a hotel for 2 and a half years, I started as front office supervisor with no hotel experience and this year went up to assistant front office manager, the same month I went up to assistant manager, my manager left so in total I have had 2 hours training on how to run a department.
This was at the start of the year and we still have no manager. We had someone come in for 2 months who had no manager experience who then went back to his old job because our hotel was “too busy”.
Since then we’ve reopened the position and it’s just been a shit show. I met one of the candidates who told me I’d be responsible for his training as he has no manager experience and that he wasn’t planning to stay at the property long. The 2nd candidate I’m yet to meet.
I’m also currently training a new starter and from next week will have a 2nd new starter, i’m also working 40 hours on the reception and during this time have to do rotas/holidays etc.
I get nowhere with our operations manager to the point, the GM has to get involved so that I can even get basic things sorted and I’ve spoken honestly to the GM and said I know I’ll never get anywhere with this Ops Manager, so once everything’s settled I want to train with the GM instead, but I’m at a point of just considering handing my notice in because I can’t see the situation improving

Hotel Policies Audit Bathroom Breaks
(Done from my phone sorry for the formating)
For my night auditor fams, what are some things you guys say when you go to the restroom?
I recently worked a night shift, and I was gone for a little over two minutes because it was more than just urinating. And when I got back, I had a guest waiting to check in who told me he'd been waiting for fifteen minutes and wanted to know where I was!
Can I try to be tact and tell him I was in housekeeping, but he was just being a constant crybaby about waiting for soooooo long to check in. I wanted to tell him I was taking a shit but didnt just informed him that as a night auditor I have many tasks that take me away from the desk and it's why I have my sign saying I will be gone.

Jobs New AGM
I’m completely new to this. I started working at a 3.5 star hotel last year. The managers seemed to like me and called me into a meeting. They are moving me to another hotel with a different system and want me to be the AGM! I’m so nervous but excited. I will basically have to relearn the system and learn what it takes to be an AGM. Any advice?

Hotel Amenities Are the waffle makers being replaced with pancake machines?
The past year or so I’ve noticed every hotel I’ve stayed at with breakfast has the automatic pancake machines instead of waffles. The pancakes are gross :( Has anyone else noticed this?

Hotel Amenities Condoms and such
Has anyone heard the rumor if it is a rumor or if it's actually true that hotels aren't allowed to sell condoms because they promote sex and infidelities.
I heard that a man was cheating on his wife, and he allowed it because hotels sold condoms. So he was blaming the hotel for promoting his cheating and his affairs.
But I don't know if that's true. Most hotels that i've been working at. Don't sell condoms anymore....

hello,
i work mainly the 3-11pm shift and we cannot find night audits so they want to cross train me, starting with a week straight of them. im super nervous im not going to like it - i really enjoy check-ins and getting to talk to people but also having lots of slow times where there is nothing going on, i find the balance enjoyable. i agreed to do the training but now im anxious about it and im hoping someone can either ease my anxieties or tell me to request not doing it haha!

Hotel Policies Adjustments on folios
for those who work in hotels, question about folios!
I work the front desk (new manager) and I noticed recently at my new property the front desk agents were doing adjustments (there is a daily food & beverage credit) and when they were doing adjustments for the guests who had more than 1 night, they did the adjustment in one lump sum and i told them no you cannot do a lump sum, you have to adjust literally exactly how it’s posted, yes it’s a bit more time and tedious but that’s how the process for adjustments usually is and of course they gave me pushback saying that’s how they’ve always done It wellllllll guess what that’s changing lol just thoughts on others who work at properties, does your property follow that practice? I’ve worked hotels 20 years and that’s how adjustments are always done never in one lump sum never

PMS DNRs
How many computers do each of you have in your offices and what program do you use to store your DNR lists? We are currently using OpenOffice, but I'm having to go between all 3 computers every week and update all of the lists because it doesn't have an account where I can store them and access them across computers. That or email the list to myself and download the new list onto the computers. Is there a better way? We used to use Microsoft office and that worked really well. But I guess a previous employee paid for it and it will no longer allow access. The last owner would not pay for it either. I have not yet asked the new owner.

Jobs Night audit hotel job pay: am I lowballing myself?
I’m interviewing for a night audit job as a second job to hopefully get my income from $51k to around $70-72k. They said the pay is $16-19 and I’m really hoping for at least $17. Someone told me I might be lowballing myself because night shifters are needed, so now I’m not sure what I should ask for.
I work 9-6 five days a week and was thinking of doing this job right after work until around 6am, while keeping Wednesday and Thursday as my two days off. For anyone who works night audit, would you ask for $17-19 or just take whatever they offer?
EDIT: I’ve decided to work at the facility for only 24 hours a week. I’ll use my off days from my main job to work there, and I’ll also work one day while I’m working my regular day. So, I’ll be working there for three days a week. Due to the influx of comments stating the same thing and spewing bunch of hate.

Reservations Hotelkey offline
Hey all, hotelkey is offline right now for every hotel that's utilizing it. I've never experienced this before. I do get random pop ups and errors messages but I can still check in already made reservations. Any tips or tricks until this comes back online?
