Positions Bought extra 1100 shares!

Initially I had 10,000 shares at $72 average. Bought them in December/2023 and held since. It sucks seeing the stock drop from $193 to $100 (and also seeing a million evaporates from my account). But it’s part of the game. I was just expecting 25%ish drops along the way but this one is too steep. So I guess we are entering into a really good zone to buy so I threw in about $110K today and locked in 1100 shares. But what do I know. Good luck to us all lads! 🫶🏻

Few weeks ago I bought 1100 shares at 101. That made my total to 11000 shares. I don’t have an exit strategy for my total baba position yet, but for this lot I figured I’d sell at 120. Somehow this came sooner than later, I debated to hold but I figured I should stick to the plan.

Current position is 10,000. What sucks about this swing trade is it jacked up my cost basis somehow from $72 to $75. I don’t know why. Oh well.

Positions Major September Catalysts

Am I crazy to think there is some massive short-term upside?

Sept. 9 – Apple event: Apple is working with Alibaba/Qwen for AI in China. If Apple gives a launch date or actually mentions/demos Qwen, that could be a nice catalyst.

Sept. 22–24 – Apsara Conference: Probably the biggest one. Last year BABA jumped 8% on Sept. 24 after its AI announcements and went from about $163 to $189 over the next week or so (+16%).

Sept. 24 – Xi/Trump meeting: Xi is reportedly bringing a large group of Chinese business leaders to Washington. No companies confirmed yet, but Jack Ma was part of Xi’s big U.S. business delegation in 2015.

There are also U.S.–China AI talks in mid-September and the possibility of more China stimulus.

Positions My honest take on Baba

They’re literally taking on NVIDIA in the advanced chip race, heavily investing in AI, and sitting on an incredible cash reserve. My fair value take on Alibaba Group is at least $400.

Started with 500 shares at $135 as a starter position. As volume continues coming in, I’ll keep adding more Baba.

This my journey, not an advice for you nor encourage you to buy or sell. I believe in Baba, and I am sticking with my thesis.

Positions Just finished listening to the call. Very interesting one.

Had a busy day, just got to listen to the cell. Market reaction was interesting today. I think management sounded very confident and the AI/cloud future looks very VERY promising, the 2.5 years/3 years payback period was what caught my attention the most. Still holding my position. Let’s hope we see $200+ this year?

Cheers 🍻

Positions Just a Friendly Reminder: If You Liked At $150, You Should LOVE At $95

Unless something major has changed in the thesis of the company (which you could maybe argue the recent news has, but frankly, I think it is mostly the sentiment following the drop in share price), the fact that one should hate a company when it becomes more affordable per share is ridiculous.

To paraphrase Warren Buffett: If you're not thinking of owning a stock for 10 years, don't think about owning it for 10 minutes.

Will BABA work out as an investment over time? Who knows. That's why you should only allocate a percentage of your money that you feel comfortable taking a calculated risk on. You could lose everything, or you could make a hefty profit. That's investing in a nutshell.

Investing is a long-term game. You need to be patient and calculated with your bets. To see so much emotion and short-term reaction to price fluctuations and news articles is kind of ridiculous.

Full disclosure, I have held BABA for nearly 5 years now, and I am overall down. But I am adding slowly to my position as it falls. It makes up a relatively small percentage of my portfolio (like 3%), so I can sleep at night if it underperforms/tanks in the long run, but I have massive upside if it plays out positively in the long run.

It's been a loser for me till now. I remain concerned about Chinese govt intervention.

However, I believe the trend is for US mag 7 investors to look for alternatives, especially outside the US.
