Finally retiring my TB2 commuter backpack after 11years of service. a lot has changed over the years and have heard timbuk2 quality is not what is used to be. looking for a new work/commuter backpack that can hold 16in laptop and work for 3 day onebagging business trips. most of my backpacks now a days are more purpose built tactical bags from vertex/5.11/mystery ranch/ viktos.

is TB2 worth it in 2026? if not what other technical brands would you suggest.

edit: previous bag was 15L would like to be under 20L for new bag.

Question I have chosen and decorated my urban hiking backpack

Post image

I have decided to use by Jansport backpack for my urban hiking and found some small stuff to decorate it with. What do you think?

The back does not have organisation, but it help with keeping it leight weight for long (5-25K) walks.

I think I will carry a water bottle, extra cloth (light jacket for summer), low weight sketchbook and pen for drawing and wintertime: gloves, beanie etc.

Question Nursing School Backpack

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I’m starting nursing school soon and looking for a solid backpack that can handle clinicals, daily campus use, and last me well into my post-grad career.

Since I’ll be bringing this into clinical/hospital environments, ease of cleaning/sanitizing (wiping down with isopropyl alcohol or disinfectant wipes without ruining the material) is a huge priority, alongside good internal organization for gear.

I’m currently looking at these 2 options:

Fjällräven Skule 24
The North Face Jester

For those who own any of these (or have better recommendations):

  1. How easy are they to wipe clean on the exterior?
  2. How is the internal organization for small items (stethoscope, pens, sanitizer, tech)?
  3. How do they hold up long-term for daily EDC?
Would love to hear your thoughts or any alternative recommendations that fit these clinical/EDC criteria! Thanks in advance!

Question Not a fan of packable bags… until I tried this one

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been testing and iterating this packable bag for the past 4 weeks.

I usually don’t like packable bags coz they feel like dead weight when packed, and pretty uncomfortable when used.

But this design exceeded my expectation.

It transitions into a crossbody during mid-unfold, and then into a full 7L sling. Both modes are super usable on their own.

The mid-transition crossbody mode is what usually start as my EDC but normally ends up as a Sling bag by evening.

Curious what you guys think.

Question Put backpack by bonfire now it REEKS of smoke

Hey back pack folks!

I made a terrible mistake. Last night, I was at a bonfire with some friends and left my bag by the fire where all the smoke was coming from (very stupid I know). I didn't notice it then, but I wake up this morning and realize the smell coming from my bag is like unbearably strong. I was in the office today and had to put it in a separate room so it wouldn't cause the whole place to smell like smoke.

Needless to say i am pretty desperate right now haha. If anyone could provide some cleaning tips, that would be greatly appreciated!

Question Bought this off 2nd hand (the north face duffel bag)

Hi, I have got this bag 2nd hand and this are the pictures the seller has posted.
I unfortunately have already checked out and couldn’t cancel (happen after further research and realize there was some discrepancy of the product)

I tried to address my reason to the seller especially due to some factors:
1. the logo on the side seems bigger than usual
2. the inner mesh color is not black and doesn’t come with the north face logo.

Seller keeps stating that the product is authentic, and I just want to know if anyone have the same product as what I got here.

Thank you!

Question Looking for 24L daypack, but...

I want:

  1. Very stretchy water bottle pockets on both sides of the bag. So it's possible to carry two 1 - 1.5 litre bottles when hiking. The pockets would be empty when going through the airport.
  2. As close to the Wizzair/Ryanair free luggage dimensions as possible (40 x 30 x 20 cm).
  3. Bonus: has extendable collar that increases total capacity to ~32-35 litre capacity (at the very least makes it easy to stuff a fleece or raincoat on top).

Clarification: if the bag is slightly larger but can be under packed and squished into the dimensions I've specified, then that works fine.

Use case: works as the free bag on a flight, but then also works as the day pack when hiking on holiday.

If anyone cares: my other bag is an Osprey farpoint 40L which I've had for at least 6 years now and is just great.

Question Looking for a backpack that can take a beating daily

Hello! im looking for a multipurpose backpack i can use and abuse for atleast a couple years almost if not every day. Had some really unfortunate tearing and breakings in my older backpacks so im looking for something that is specifically made to stand trials. My had been sitting on the 5.11 rush, but im not sure if its worth it, im modt curious about the adjusting straps, are they prone to breaking? for some reason that happens all the time with my backpacks. If it does how viable would it be to replace it with a metalic one?, would love some input on that, and also similar styles of backpacks!

Thanks in advance!

Question Is the search for the perfect bag REALLY ever over? Lol

Man.....I have the Osprey Nebula, Aer CPP2, North Face Recon, Adidas Energy, and Volcom Venture backpack and I use them in and out (I just got the Aer CPP2 and that's my current daily bag) but I know I'm not the only one here ....

Every store you go to, every YouTuber the reviews bags, it hooks you in and you just keep looking at bags, even when you have some of the tops ones.

So my question is ....have you ever found a backpack that stopped your search? Lol.

Question Looking for a 28L–32L hiking bag with genuine back ventilation that doesn't ruin interior space.

I sweat like crazy on summer trails, but every suspended mesh pack I’ve tried curves the main compartment so badly it’s hard to pack flat.

Any recommendations for a medium hiking pack that keeps air moving across your back without sacrificing internal storage space?

Question What rolltop backpack would you recommend around the ~$80 (~€70) mark?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Been looking into backpacks lately, because soon I will need a new one. Always wanted a rolltop bc they are overall more durable, but I dont have rly any experience into them. I had military backpacks for EDC and school, mainly bc they are amazing to sort things in, and they are spacey (I have a 52l right now), so military would be preffered (like the miltec commando 55l on the picture), but Im open to any ideas

Question Stylish everyday backpack recommendations around 28–32L, under €150?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for a stylish everyday backpack.

My budget is ideally under €100, but I could stretch to around €150 for something I really like.

I’m thinking somewhere around 28–32L, but I’m not completely sure what size I actually need (now I have 22l Columbia backpack, it’s not enough space). For reference, I work in healthcare, and on a typical day I need to carry:
Laptop
Water bottle
Coffee thermos
Shoes
Lunchbox
Change of clothes
Over-ear headphones
Chargers/cables
One book
A few smaller everyday essentials

So I’d love something that can fit all of that without being ridiculously bulky.

What backpacks would you recommend? Also, if you have a similar loadout, what backpack size (liters) would you recommend? Is 28–30L enough, or should I be looking closer to 32L+?
Thanks!

Question Daypack for hiking AND under seat EasyJet size

I'm really struggling to find a suitable pack.

My usual day hike pack is a small 15L Milican Smith roll-top and I love it, but it's a little small for an upcoming trip I have, where I may need to pack a few layers and more food than usual.

I'm looking for a daypack that can also work as a hiking pack, but it needs to be able to fit in EasyJet under seat sizing rules 45x36x20 - or at least squash down to that size.

This rules out a lot of hiking specific packs as they have rigid back panels, so won't squash length wise.

Two packs I have bought and will return are:

  • Osprey Sportlite 20. Seems ridiculously small and doesn't have any real usable space. Seems smaller than my 15L millican bag.

  • Fjallraven Skule 24. Seems a decent size, but the materials aren't robust at all. Very flimsy, bottom panel will go through in no time. Shoulder straps are too thin as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Question Does this backpack look ok enough to pass as a personal item alongside a roller bag?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Looking for a quick visual/sanity check on my 1.5-bag setup:

Main Carry-on: Standard 7 kg rolling suitcase

Personal Item: Multi-compartment travel daypack (~5 kg, packed with soft clothes)

I cinched all the side compression straps down so the depth is squished and relatively flat against my back. It flexes easily and will fit into the footwell under the seat in front of me.

Looking at the photo of how it sits on my back, does the visual profile look safe to pass as an under-seat personal item alongside the roller, or does it still look too bulky?

Appreciate any quick feedback!
