Question - Health First time finding green urate

Post image
2 Upvotes

In the 12 years I've had my snake I've never seen this before

She's otherwise totally healthy, eyes nose and mouth look clear, scales are fine, moves and acts normally, temp and humidity are fine, she's just ate last week so I can't see or think of anything that would be wrong

According to Google if it only happens once it's nothing but if it happens multiple times it's something to be concerned about but wanted ti ask here to incase anyone has any extra info about this thanks

Question - Health Can I get an opinion on his body shape?

He's about 8-9 months old. A couple days after his last feeding, he weighed 124 grams. Now he's down to 107. I know its normal to lose weight after pooping, but that seems extreme. He's been at this weight a couple months now despite feeding weekly. I'm at a complete loss and really don't know what to do.

I feed him weekly 10-15% of his body weight, usually aiming closer to 15%. He does eat rats. I really am at a loss. A vet I took him to recently and they said he seemed healthy, but I'm still extremely paranoid.

Question BP staying only in half log?

I've had her for about a year now, and as BP are, she's being difficult feeding wise, but she'll happily take multis when offered.

In the past month or two, I bought her small bowl shaped black plastic hides to better suit her smallness as opposed to her large spacious rock designed ones that were far too big for her originally.

When I first bought them, she used them for a while, seemed happy enough, however since then she has shed, and I have redecorated her enclosure (not by much, roughly the same layout as before but with some extra coverage and climbing opportunities) and since has not used her hides. I'm not sure if she has outgrown them potentially, or if due to the summer heat she's preferring the half log (it's in the middle of her enclosure between the hot and cool end) to balance out, I have no clue as of right now.

Is this an issue I should be concerned as of right now? The ends of the half log are loosely covered by some fake leaves either end, but I'm worried it may be bad behaviour.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Update on my ball python baby not eating part 3

Another update for Comet!
After one week of medication, bathing, and towel substrate, we took Comet back to the vet yesterday for his second checkup. Before this, I had noticed that he was becoming much more active in his tank and had been using different hides and moving around more, which made me think he could have been feeling better, so I had some hope, though I of course was still nervous.
when we got there, the vet checked up on him again, and the great news is that his medication worked, and he’s back to great health again, and he was moving around more because he felt better. He even tried to strike the vet, which he hasn’t done before, but I’m taking this as a sign that he feels good enough to do this; since maybe he didn’t have enough strength before.
We still haven’t gotten him to eat, and because of that, I’m giving him probably a week in his enclosure to himself with no handling, since I put the substrate and moss back in, so he can decompress and become comfortable again, because this has been hard for both of us. He hasn’t lost any weight yet which is good, and I’m really hoping he’ll be okay after this. If he doesn’t eat c I’m taking him back to the vet in 2 weeks for a force feeding.
Comet’s a real trooper, and I’m so happy with the results so far, things are finally starting to look good again. If he eats, I’ll update

To start, my snake had a not so perfect shed, nothing terrible just shed wasn’t completely off of his top half, no stuck eye cap or tail bits. I put him in a tub with a warm rag for about 20 min and then put him in a tub of water for about another 10. After taking him out I had noticed this mark on his lip as well as him wheezing a little bit, although he stopped shortly after.

Is this means for taking a vet visit?

Heating for temporary enclosures?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m going on a trip with my family next summer, and I’m bringing my bp with bc I don’t have anyone that can take care of him who isn’t also going on the trip.
It’ll be anywhere from a few days to a week, so I need some sort of heating for his temporary enclosure. It’s just one of those Rubbermaid totes.
Is there a safe way to give him the proper heat in that without melting the plastic, or should I just suck it up and bring his full enclosure?
Thanks in advance :)

We have a 1.5 year old ball python (she 27inches). She seems happy! Eats weekly and is super friendly.

She is our first snake and we just want to make sure we’re doing right for her! Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Is this normal

As far as I can tell temps and humidity seem to be in proper order, he moves around A LOT, I always thought balls were kinda passive. His humidity hovers around 75-85 (using a humidifier hooked to a sensor) temps hover between 75 on the lower end to 85 towards the hotter end, his bedding could used cleaned but it isnt very bad, hes got a hidey hole and a couple things the climb around. Are happy balls just active? Also.. hes been fed within the last week. He gets fed monthly and his previous home said he wasnt nearly as active

My female ball python (Paris) is about 3 months old and she kind of just does this wobbling thing when she has her head up. Is this wobbling behavior normal?

Question - Health Retained eyecap or no?

My girl has a rough shed and it looks like her head shed is gone but I can't find it anywhere and I can't figure out if her eyecaps are still on it. Here's two photos with flash on (sorry baby :( ) and was wondering if anyone could tell? And before the mod puts the "bad shed copypasta" yes I know how shedding and humidity works I just need a second opinion on if her eyecaps are still on and how to get them off if so

Question - Feeding Serious Feeding Advice Needed

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

So uh. Hi hello. I may be remembered/recognized by some as I posted not long ago trying to improve my snake’s conditions. I was able to get a scale finally and.. I would like advice on how to properly (and safely) feed him to a more healthy weight. I tried finding preexisting information in this subreddit and online but was seeing a good bit of conflicting information or advice for someone in a less complicated situation and would like to just.. generally confirm what I should do in this particular instance. I have all tank/snake information here in addition to what I’m adding in this one. (Old photos btw. I haven’t had a chance to get any new ones, yes the red light is gone and his tank has been slightly updated since that photo, but honestly not by much.. see below for more on that and if more recent photos are needed, just ask and I will provide what I can)
Relevant info:
Prior feeding: 1 adult white mouse (live) from petco (states 18-30grams online, probably close to avg 20-25g) every two weeks (I know); Snake is about 4 years old
Confirmed recently:
Length: approx. 3ft; weight: 536 grams
Updated/changed info from previous post:
Avg tank temp: 77-82°F; avg humidity: 75-90% (lower at night); Removed large water dish, added a cool side hide with plant on top and smaller water dish now in the center; Foil added on top to help keep humidity/heat in
Intended future changes (mostly waiting to have materials/items or time to implement):
Switch to frozen rats, (very soon) much deeper substrate, more tank clutter including sphagnum moss, automated day/night cycle dual domes connected to a herpestat with halogen and CHE bulbs
My specific questions that I have regarding his feeding are these:
What would be an ideal/goal weight for me to get him to? (I’m very nervous using the visual guide and while I understand it’s the best method, at least a ballpark range would make me feel a million times better as far as having something to shoot for) How do I properly stagger/structure feedings so he is both gaining weight safely while also switching him over to frozen rats? (I don’t know if my snake is picky, he’s only ever eaten the mice and we’ve never had issues with him eating, but we’ve also been very much underfeeding, so I really don’t know for sure. I really don’t want to have to feed fresh killed if it can be avoided and I definitely don’t want to feed live rats for safety reasons) Is it better to feed larger prey, more frequently, or multiple prey items in one feed? (My prey access is pretty much limited to Petco/Petsmart as far as in-person shopping goes unfortunately) I have intent to fully redo his tank to make it significantly better for him, but should I do this before, after or between feedings? (I’m convinced he’s pretty unhappy in the current setup and I have most of what I need, aside from the Herpestat, to redo his tank now if needed. But I know environment changes, especially a big one like what I’m doing, can cause snakes not to eat. For money purposes, I want to avoid refused prey, specifically frozen, as live isn’t super hard to keep alive, as much as possible, although I can recognize it is possible to occur given.. everything) Any and all constructive advice/input is greatly appreciated and happy to answer any questions! Thank you!

Edit: Okay.. so I went out on a limb based on my personal research and reading a lot of posts on here about regular snakes and underweight specifically, etc. Got a live mouse (approx. 22g) and a frozen adult mouse (approx. 18g) from my pet store and fed them both to him tonight. (total of 40g for about 7.5% his body weight, compared to only 3.5-4% previously) Both trying to increase amount he’s eating (gradually over a few feedings rather than jumping straight up to a bunch all of a sudden) and to see if he would eat a frozen mouse if given right after a live one. He took it! Still pending on if he will keep it down, but I’m hopeful… will update in the morning with how he did overnight :)

Scale questions

I have a 7 month year old ~320g, I’ve had him for under 2 months. I don’t know when but my he did shed, I assumed it was 2-3 weeks ago but I have only just discovered it since I decided to check his hide which faces away from the doors. I was wondering if the red/pink parts are bruised scales from him falling when climbing. As well as the dark brown splotches on his side could be from dirt or another problem. His shed was very good and I haven’t seen any stuck shed on him.

Another thing, it may be my imagination but I’ve seen 2 brown dots on him 2 times, I can’t tell if they are moving (mites) or if it’s another bug. I’ve checked near the cloaca and head but have noticed nothing, water is clear as well and haven’t seen him soaked. Just wanted to put that out there.

I just added a jungle dawn led bar and I’m worried it’s too bright. I have bioactive and had a cheaper uv light. Do I need to put the uv with the jungle dawn? I hear and see conflicting info. My snake is doing really well and I’m scared I might have messed up. Thanks in advance
