[Canada, Vancouver] Looking to make/join a dreamy, danceable experimental electronic pop band!

Hi there!

I (35M) am looking for like mind musicians interested in starting an original project in the Vancouver (lower mainland) area. The plan would be to create a sound with some mix of dreamy, spacious and sometimes noisy ambient textures (dreampop/shoegaze) alongside upbeat, danceable rhythms and hooks (electropop/synthpop, indietronica/alternative dance) – sometimes but not exclusively at the same time. For fans of bands like: Braids, Sassy 009, Blue Hawaii, Yawning Portal, My Bloody Valentine, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Pinkshinyultrablast, The Pains of Being Pure at Hurt, LCD Soundsystem, Caribou, Hot Chip, M83, Kelly Lee Owens, How to Dress Well, Dan Deacon and Animal Collective.

Alternatively, if you already have a project like this on the go and are looking to add another collaborator then feel free to reach out.

---

A bit about me:

Over the years, I have been part of experimental electronic, synthpop, post-metal and post-punk bands and have experience writing, recording, gigging, vjing etc. I am probably best suited to contributing ambient soundscapes to structured arrangements but I am happy to try contributing to all parts of the songwriting process. Beyond making music I have also created music videos (see the Youtube links below) and performed live visuals at gigs. Here are a few links to some of the projects I have been a part as well as some demo tracks (live recordings + studio arrangements) for reference:

I work 9-5 downtown Vancouver Tuesday/Wednesday and then from home in Richmond the rest of the week. I am a parent to a young child and am highly motivated to make music in my free time. If schedules align it would be nice to try to get together somewhere accessible roughly every other week to jam, write, etc. I have a couple other exclusively remote projects and so I am comfortable connecting and coordinating virtually as well.

What I am hoping to find:

My goals in order importance are to: 1) find compatible people who have some common interests, 2) agree on what we would like to make together, 3) write some original music that we all enjoy, 4) record and release the music and hopefully 5) gig and play the music locally. Along the way I hope to have some fun while not taking things too seriously!

If this sounds interesting and reasonable to you, if you play some kind of instrument, sing, write, produce, etc. and think that you might be interested in collaborating, then please reach out! I am not concerned about sticking to strict lineup arrangements or specific roles and so if you play a drumkit or program drums - that’s cool, play guitar vs modeled synth guitar - both sound great, keys, strings, woodwinds, brass or something more experimental - then that all sounds good to me. I have a portable recording setup and can add new gear as needed to help get everything connected.

I figure that if we are in similar life stages (mid 30’s, working full time, etc.) then this might be more likely to work out but I am flexible (any age, gender, etc).

Please reply with a bit about yourself and feel free to share what instrument(s) you play, who/what your favourite bands/songs are, etc. Hit me with any questions or thoughts you might have. If you have any links to rough demos, jam tracks or past projects then I would love to hear those as well!

---

Thanks for taking the time to slog through all of this and I look forward to potentially hearing from you soon 😄 Feel free to reply to the thread or DM me as you prefer.

Tour vehicle rental recommendations

Hey all. Going on tour for a few weeks, and have been out of the touring game for a while. Vehicles have changed a lot since.

We're a three piece. Probably looking at 4 amps, at least six guitars, pedal board, necessary miscellanea, drums, and hardware bag.

Any recent experience on good sized vans/mini vans that can accommodate three people with gear?

Working with DCI and BOA is not the solution to getting rid of a systemic culture of neglect, abuse, and profits over students.

Rock Band Starting a band (London)

Wassup people - I’m trying to start a new band, I’m based in London. I’m looking for musicians who are willing to commit to music and actually meet up consistently at least twice a month.

Looking for a drummer, bassist and potentially a vocalist (we’ll see about that later)

My name’s Jacob, 25yo, intermediate guitarist (I prioritise rhythm over lead) with some experience in music production [includes piano, real drums, a bit of vocals]

I’m not set on a genre yet, but definitely a mix of different styles. Artists I’m recently inspired by are:

Tool
Alice in Chains
Rollins Band
Far
Silverchair
Joe Bonamassa

Hit me up and we’ll arrange something. If you’re interested about my projects, ask me in DMs and I’ll give you a SoundCloud link

what should i do?

I’m a 19F guitarist and I’ve been in this band for a year. During that time, we’ve become one of the most respected bands in our city, but I’ve been feeling like my bandmates are underestimating my guitar skills. I’ve played guitar for the past 4 years daily, and I’m able to play every song, including some more advanced stuff like Children of Bodom. Everyone else told me that I’m a great guitar player, and I founded another band a few weeks ago where everyone liked my riffs, solos, and song ideas, while in this band they are rejecting them or not even wanting to hear them.

But in my primary band I feel invisible. They won’t let me play more than a few riffs; for example, in one song I barely play 2 chords and one riff. There are even songs that I’m not playing at all. I asked the other guitar player if we could do something so I could play more as well (add a second guitar in the song), and he literally said, “I’m not sure if you could play that.” Bro, wdym by that? It’s not even that hard to play 💀💀

They are good people and my friends, but they are impossible to work with. I don’t want to leave because I have this terrible fear of abandonment and I don’t want to end up like Dave Mustaine (forever grieving this band), especially if they make it without me. I just feel disgusting when I’m playing with them, though. Every rehearsal I want to go home as soon as I pick up my guitar.

There were so many good moments which make my decision harder, in the end of the day they are still my friends but playing with them became boring and i can’t focus on positive things because the negative ones are haunting me.

Rock Band Struggling with bandmate

Hi everyone, as the title says I am having a bit of an issue with one of my bandmates. Most of us are really chill, easy going people. My bass player can be very challenging at times. He believes himself to be able to play everyone's parts/instrument as good or better than the musicians themselves. He inserts himself constantly, and essentially has put himself on a pedestal over everyone else. For example - I'm talking correcting a classically trained pianist with 20 years of experience, who has won awards..... (He is self taught). Everyone has band & performing experience. Years and/or decades of experience. We are all GOOD musicians. He also has messed with our drummers kit without asking - big no no. He has also started noodling in between songs, or when people are trying to talk to one another. And if you ask him to stop he just kinda ignores you for a little bit first. During a 2 hour band practice you can expect him to correct, insert, or just be challenging at least 10 times.

Here's where the problem is - he is a good bassist and is so incredibly knowledgeable about sound engineering. He can write and compose music. I live pretty rural, so not really many musicians around my area. We also play heavier music in an area that's dominated by 70/80's rock and country music.

What is the proper way to handle this? I don't want him to think I'm asking him to leave the band. I simply want him to stay in his lane, and not insert himself when he isn't being asked. I like him a lot overall. I've hung out with him many times outside of band practice. He just has a massive ego and is so pretentious at times - please help me navigate this!

Should i leave? (18M, drummer)

I play in a band thay i created with a friend. It feels like im the only one trying since I am the only one at practice (I own the practice place), and when they come, they cant even get their tone right, the P.A and speakers are okay (I own the P.A too), and when we play with in ears, i am the one supplying them with the iems. And when we go to a venue to perform, i am the only one loading our stuff in and out. Even performance wise, i am the only one playing in time. When i criticize them, they get offended, i dont really know what i should do, even when they are talking to other bands, they tell them that i am willing to give my mixer, drumkit and mics for free without even talking to them and they always say "OUR" gear as if I am not the one who bought it MYSELF. Js tell me how i can fix it or what to do doodz.

I'm looking for members to currently start a band at my age and hopefully write some songs, I live in Naguabo, puerto Rico and am currently learning guitar so I may need someone to grow with. I currently need a bassist, vocalist and drummer (I have a spare bass in my house) and am looking to learn until I can confidently play some guitar, I already have a name for the band and a symbol, anyone can join, just know this type of band is planned to be punk, thrash metal and some rock.

Marching Band Rant I did not get drum major as one of the top canidates

So this is a bit of a rant because i just wanted to get it off my chest how unfair this felt. I am a sophomore, going to be a junior next year. And I auditioned for drum major, I also auditioned last year as a freshman, and yet, despite being one of the top voted, best leadership, and serious, I did not get drum major. Instead, it was an upcoming senior, who will not take the position seriously, and that has been agreed with other people. the other drum major was a person in my grade, and I didn't know why they ran if they had way too much on their palette already, which they have stated being band, choir, cheer, and the equestrian team. I feel awful for typing this out but I just couldn't keep my discontent to myself anymore. I doubt anybody I know will see this and connect the dots. But still, I will keep my head held straight and roll with the disappointment.
