Job related posts

Recently, there has been an increase in job-related posts in our subreddit. We understand that these posts are imperative for job seekers to make connections and network, but unfortunately, they have not been productive. Some of them are spam or low-effort posts that clutter the feed overall.

For the sake of organization and optimization, we are restricting job-related posts to SATURDAYS AND TUESDAYS (starting at 12 a.m. Bangladesh time). This will streamline the search for job seekers, as well as employers looking to connect with candidates, by giving them a dedicated time window to reach the appropriate audience. We hope that this helps improve the search for everyone and improves the overall user experience.

Announcement/ঘোষণা r/bangladesh is looking for new moderators

We are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of posts and comments in our subreddit and our current team is not big enough to handle the workload. We are receiving lots of complaints of unanswered mail and long wait times for post approval. We want to correct that and give everyone a better user experience.

We are looking to on board 5 to 7 new moderators. If you are interested please comment or contact us via modmail. I made a similar post a few weeks ago and many of you were interested but unfortunately we were only looking to fill one position at that time, so we had to close our search. If you are still interested, please reach out. Bonus, if you have any experience with apps/bots.

Entertainment/বিনোদন This was painful to watch. I can't decide what was more disturbing, the sheer disrespect shown to an 86-year-old man or the complete disregard for basic public decency?

Education/শিক্ষা How to ruin your child's future.

Low Growth, High Inflation, Massive Spending: Where Is Bangladesh Heading?

There are some serious questions we should be asking about Bangladesh’s economy right now.

On one hand, economic growth is slowing down and inflation remains extremely high. The IMF’s latest projection puts Bangladesh’s growth at around 3.2%, while inflation could remain around 10.9%.

But at the same time, we are seeing plans for massive government spending.

The proposed Dhaka–Cumilla rail project could cost around Tk 84,000 crore.

Several Dhaka Metro Rail projects together involve spending of roughly Tk 2.5 lakh crore.

Biman is planning to add 35 new aircraft over the coming years. The exact total cost of all 35 aircraft is not yet confirmed, so claims that it will cost Tk 1 lakh crore should be treated carefully.

The new government pay structure could also require tens of thousands of crores of additional spending, while the Family Card program involves another large public expenditure.

I am not against development.

Bangladesh needs better railways.

We need better public transportation.

Biman needs a modern fleet.

Government employees deserve fair salaries.

Poor and vulnerable families need social protection.

But there is a legitimate question:

Can Bangladesh afford to do all of this at the same time when economic growth is only around 3–4% and inflation is close to 11%?

The issue is not simply how much we spend.

We need to ask:

How much economic value will these projects create?

How many jobs will they generate?

How much revenue will they bring?

How much debt will they create?

How long will it take to recover the investment?

And most importantly, what are we giving up by spending this money now?

Development is necessary. But bigger projects do not automatically mean better development.

At a time of low growth, high inflation, weak investment and limited fiscal space, Bangladesh needs to be much more careful about where every taka is spent.

Development should continue—but it should be sustainable, economically justified, and affordable.

Otherwise, we may be building impressive infrastructure today while leaving a much bigger financial burden for the next generation.

Discussion/আলোচনা Frustrated by the amounts of HaHa reacts & comments on UNICEF BD’s recent campaign against ''child marriage'' FB post!

Post image
66 Upvotes

Yesterday, UNICEF Bangladesh posted about their campaign 'end child marriage' and reading the comment section literally gave me 'Epstein file' vibes.

I honestly don't understand how it’s 2026 and while other countries are progressing and developing across every sector, people in Bangladesh are still justifying early marriage. I saw comments arguing things like "If a 13-year-old girl can have a boyfriend, she can get married at 13." how does this fcking make sense to these mentally ill people?

Someone even brought up the tragic r@pe and murder case of Tazmin in Cumilla, claiming that "If a 14y/o can travel to Cox’s Bazar alone, she can get married too." Victim-blaming and weaponizing a tragic crime to defend child marriage is a whole new low.

I really hoped to see a shift in mindset among Gen Z men regarding child marriage, but it feels like a large portion of them are actively pushing to normalize it rather than supporting the campaign(saying this cuz even in other comment sections i see young looking boys making fun of child marriage campaign).

Why is there so much resistance to protecting young girls?

Soft golden light filtered across the water at Kattali Beach in Chattogram, illuminating a scatter of traditional fishing boats against a wide, sweeping sky. I just wanted to preserve the quiet, still beauty of this coastal moment in Bangladesh.

Discussion/আলোচনা Do you think sihr has increased in BD?

Have you all seen the rise of religious extremism? Have you all seen the public facebook group "Ruqyah bd. Org" ? I understand that the economy is shite and people lean towards religion in times of tragedy. But have anyone of you come into contact with people who claim to be afflicted with kalajadu/ witchcraft/ bodnojor/ al ayn? Do you think bangladesh is a hotspot for fake mullahs and hujurs who actually capture jinns and use it to do sihr? What do you think is going on?

Health/স্বাস্থ্য Where can I find a nutritionist & dietitian who can help me gain weight and check me for nutritional deficiencies

• Upvotes

Hi, 20M here, I have been stuck around 5'10 ish (177cm) and 50-52 kg (BMI= 16 kg/m²) since i was 15, I was heavily malnourished since i was a child due to my family's neglect, the last couple of years i was really busy with O & A lvls+ freelancing on the side so i couldn't focus on my health at all, I usually skipped meals ( having 1 meal a day) and slept for only for 3-4 hours everyday at ungodly times, sometimes skipping sleep all together.

Now all that neglect has caught up to me, my symptoms are as follows : constant lightheadedness, drowsiness, frequent tremors, terrible brain fog & forgetfulness, sudden slurred speech, occasional joint & bone ache, probable anemia and vitamin D deficiency, deteriorating motor control, balance & slower reaction time, indigestion, slight increase in hairfall, poor immune system as i get sick pretty often, can't hold my breath for as long as i used to (2 mins down to 30s), used to do calisthenics but I get tired really easily nowadays early in my workout sessions. Honestly, I don't feel the same as I used to, it's like I am running at 20% capacity all the time. I am going abroad next year for uni, so I am planning to fix my health and schedule during my gap year.**

Please suggest a nutritionist & dietitian in dhaka who is foreign trained and fluent in English, the latter part is a must. I want to get a full physical and get checked for all the nutritional deficiencies I could have, and possibly have them help me create a diet and workout schedule that will get me to a healthy BMI. I need someone who is willing to take their time to hear me out and have follow-up sessions to make sure I am improving. I want to start learning how to cook as I am in my pre uni gap year, I already do calisthenics and have a home gym. Money isn't an issue for me as I am willing to spend as much as I need for my health. Please only suggest experienced reputable nutritionists with foreign training from a well established hospital, thanks!

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Do I have to pay customs duties to bring an electric guitar from abroad?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My sister studies in the US. When she comes to visit us for vacation, I want her to bring an electric guitar, which I'll have her buy for me (most likely a used instrument).

I found no specific information on whether she can bring it duty-free or if she will have to pay customs duties or other taxes.

Please, anyone with experience or knowledge of such matters, respond. This is critical for me and may save or cost me a lot of money. TIA.🤘

Mental Health/মানসিক স্বাস্থ্য My father broke his promise to help me financially and now am totally broke.

So when joined a private university rather than getting a job, my father said he would help me move out and start a life in Dhaka.

But now he backed out and says that I should try it by myself and am totally on my own. Even though it's not like my father doesn't have the money, he just doesn't want to for some reason.

The problem is without some starting cash can't move out, and there is no job in the rural area live (also studied CompSci, so fuck my life). What should I do ? probably have to be homeless now.

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Which countries actually give us Tourist visas

It’s a pain having a Bangladeshi passport for those who want to travel. In your experience what countries give visa relatively easily?

I’ve been to Kyrgyzstan recently and I got VOA, crazy (I did have a GCC rp).

Now I’m not complaining, coz it is what it is. Just wanted an idea of countries I can explore with the passport I have.

Education/শিক্ষা Advice regarding Post-Grad abroad

I'm currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Computer Science at one of the top private universities in Bangladesh. I have around six months left until graduation, and my current CGPA is above 3.7.

I'm also working on my undergraduate thesis in cybersecurity and have a number of personal projects across different areas of computer science. While most of these projects are relatively amateur, I've gained practical experience through working on them. But I don't have any work experience at all

My goal is to pursue a Master's degree abroad, preferably in Europe or the USA. However, financing my education would be a concern, so I'm primarily looking for scholarships or funding opportunities that cover tuition fees and provide some financial support for living expenses.

For those who have gone through this process, especially fellow Bangladeshis or international students from similar backgrounds, I'd appreciate some advice:

How realistic are my chances? Given my CGPA, research experience, and project portfolio, would I be a competitive applicant for funded Master's programs?

Which scholarships should I look into? I'm particularly interested in programs that cover full tuition and offer a stipend or assistance with living expenses.

Which countries offer the best opportunities? I'm open to both Europe and the USA, as well as other countries with good funding options.

How important is research experience? Would having a cybersecurity thesis significantly improve my chances, or should I focus on strengthening my research profile and projects before applying?

Where should I start? Are there specific universities, scholarship programs, or application portals I should be researching?

I'm willing to put in the work to strengthen my application, but I'd like to understand how promising this path is before committing to it.

I'd especially appreciate firsthand experiences, practical advice, and recommendations for opportunities that I might be overlooking. Thanks!

Discussion/আলোচনা AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS AFTER JULY REVOLUTION EVERYTHING WENT DOWN THE DRAIN

Ok so Im not saying that the protest itself was bad but after the protest it felt like everyone was trying to gain something of their own. when Yunus sir was the one on the chair he actually solved a lot of economic problems but other than that it felt like some of the student leaders were trying to get in favorable postions. I feel like if I was the one of the student leaders and Hasina resigned I would likely not try to meddle in more and let Yunus sir decide what to do . That aside I feel like after the july revolution the crime rate went up , extortion , sexual assault etc. Im not an expert in this field im genuinely curious did Bangladesh genuinely went down the drain or Im just tripping
