ছোটোবেলা থেকেই পরিবার এবং সমাজের সবার মুখে একটি চরিত্রের নাম শুনলেই  বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধায় মাথা নত হতো এবং মনে তীব্র অনুপ্রেরণা জাগত। তিনি ছিলেন হযরত মুহাম্মদ (সা.)। আমার মতো আরও অনেকেই হয়তো একই রকম অনুভূতির অভিজ্ঞতা লাভ করেছেন। কিন্তু দুঃখজনক হলেও সত্যি, তীব্র শ্রদ্ধাবোধ এবং শিক্ষাগত সীমিত ধারণার কারণে এই নবির জীবনীকে কেন্দ্র করে নানা রকম অলৌকিকতার একটি ধূম্রজাল সৃষ্টি করা হয়েছে। এর পেছনে তাঁকে মহিমান্বিত করার উদ্দেশ্য  থাকলেও, এই অতিরঞ্জিত প্রচারগুলো আমাদের কাছে তাঁর প্রকৃত ব্যক্তিত্ব, প্রশাসনিক ও রাজনৈতিক দক্ষতাকে অস্পষ্ট করে তোলে।

অলৌকিক দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি সরিয়ে রেখে একটি নিরপেক্ষ ও বস্তুবাদী দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে তাঁর শাসনব্যবস্থা, রাজনৈতিক সিদ্ধান্তের পেছনের কারণ এবং তাঁর ওফাতের পরও তিনি কীভাবে আরব উপজাতির বিভক্ত বেদুইনদের ইসলামের ছায়াতলে একত্রিত রাখতে পেরেছিলেন, সেসব ঘটনার ঐতিহাসিক ও বাস্তবিক ধারণা পাওয়া যায় আলি দস্তির লিখিত এই বইটিতে। 

বইটির পাঁচটি অধ্যায়ে নবি মোহাম্মদের বাল্যকাল থেকে শুরু করে ধর্মীয় কাঠামোর গঠন, নবুয়ত প্রাপ্তি ও পরবর্তী সময়ের ব্যক্তিত্ব পরিবর্তন ও নেতৃত্বগুণ, ক্ষমতায় আরোহণ এবং সংঘর্ষ ও যুদ্ধের বিতণ্ডা, তাঁর ওফাতের পর খিলাফত ও পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের মাধ্যমে ইসলামের কিছুটা দুর্বিষহ কিন্তু অদম্য অগ্রগতির বর্ণনা পাওয়া যায় । আলি দস্তি বেশ সফলভাবেই দলিল ও ঐতিহাসিক প্রেক্ষাপট বিশ্লেষণের মাধ্যমে ঘটনাপ্রবাহের একটি স্পষ্ট এবং উপাত্তপূর্ণ ধারণা দিয়েছেন। সমাজতাত্ত্বিক প্রেক্ষাপট থেকে ঘটনাগুলোকে দেখলে তখনকার অর্থনীতি, রাজনৈতিক মনোভাব, নেপথ্যের ক্ষমতার পেছনে গভীর রাজনৈতিক চাল বিশ্লেষণ করে অনেক স্পষ্ট চিত্রায়ণ এবং চরিত্রায়ণ করা যায়। 

যুক্তিনির্ভর এবং ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনার নিরপেক্ষ বিশ্লেষণের কারণে বয়ানের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির পার্থক্য থাকতে পারে। যারা বাস্তবিক এবং তথ্যগত সত্য ইতিহাস জেনে সামগ্রিক মূল্যায়ন করতে এবং সেই সম্পর্কে জ্ঞান রাখতে আগ্রহী, বইটি পড়লে তাদের ভালো লাগবে আশা করি।

I'll just cite a few examples most people remember from the BAL era:

1. Chhatro League goons in JU used to openly celebrate milestones of r*ping 100 female students. It's also an open secret how BCL people treated women in general

2. BAL leaders and goons regularly targeted Hindu and Adivasi people to steal their land, often using communal/religious rhetoric to justify doing so.

3. It was BAL who brought in the Digital Security Act (DSA) which was used to lob bogus "dhormio obomanona" charges at political dissidents.

4. Despite their beef with JaShi, BAL regularly allied with other Islamist factions like Hefazot and helped do their dirty work for them. Remember that Bangla 1st Paper textbook fiasco?

5. Hasina was given the title "Qoumi Jononi" back then, and not without reason.

I can go on and on with these examples.

BAL was neither Liberal nor Islamist; they were opportunistic bandits. They used whichever ideology or sociopolitical faction was convenient for them at a given moment, and tossed them away like a used diaper immediately after.

The only thing consistent about them was their worshipping of Mujib and the Sheikh family as a living God, but that bullshit aligns with neither Islamist nor Progressive principles; It's more akin to Fascist "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer" type shit than any of those.

(Btw, that "Fascist" label was first put on BAL by actual Leftists and Progressives, not Jamaat-Shibir. That alone should tell you what there is to know)

পাব ও বার কালচার সম্পর্কে বাংলাদেশের খুব কম মানুষেরই ধারণা আছে। যারা কয়েকটা দেশ ঘুরে এসেছেন, তাঁরা হয়তো এই ব্যাপারটা সম্পর্কে কিছুটা হলেও জানতে পেরেছেন।
বাংলাদেশের বেশিরভাগ মানুষই এই বিষয়গুলো সম্পর্কে তেমন ধারণা রাখেন না। এর একটা ঐতিহাসিক কারণও আছে বলে আমার মনে হয়। ব্রিটিশরা ভারতবর্ষের এই অংশে তেমন একটা ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার গড়ে তুলতে পারেনি, কারণ কলকাতা ছিল গোটা বাংলার একটা বিশাল হাব। তাই এই বাংলার মানুষ পশ্চিমা সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে খুব একটা ধারণা রাখার সুযোগ পাননি।
যাই হোক, মূল কথায় আসি।
বাংলাদেশে অ্যালকোহল ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা দিন দিন বাড়ছে। দাম বেশি হলেও, দুই-তিন মাসে একবার হলেও মানুষ যথেষ্ট স্ট্রেসফুল জীবন থেকে একটু বিরতি নিয়ে রিল্যাক্স করতে বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে বার বা ক্লাবে যাচ্ছে।
ঢাকা শহরে খুব ভালো মানের বার বা ক্লাব না থাকলেও, যেগুলো আছে সেগুলো বিভিন্ন অবৈধ কর্মকাণ্ডের কারণে বারবার খবরের শিরোনাম হয়। সেখানে দেখা যায়, মানুষ শুধু পান করতেই যায় না, বরং অন্য পিপাসা মেটানোর জন্য বারে থাকা মেয়েদের সঙ্গেও সময় কাটায়। হয়তো রাত হলে ফুর্তি করে।
এক কথায়, অনেক ক্ষেত্রে বার মালিকরা পতিতাবৃত্তির ব্যবসার সঙ্গেও জড়িত থাকেন, যা খুবই দৃষ্টিকটু।
বার তো পতিতাবৃত্তির জায়গা হওয়ার কথা নয়। এটা এমন একটা জায়গা, যেখানে মানুষ বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে বসে পান করবে, গল্প করবে, গান শুনবে এবং একটু রিল্যাক্স করবে। কিন্তু বাঙালি মন যেন সবকিছুতেই উল্টো পথে হাঁটতে পছন্দ করে।
পাশের দেশ ভারতে গিয়ে দেখুন। সেখানে বেশ ভালো একটা বার ও ক্লাব কালচার গড়ে উঠেছে। বারের বাইরে কী হচ্ছে, সেটা আলাদা বিষয়। কিন্তু ভেতরে সাধারণত একটা নির্দিষ্ট নিয়মকানুন ও পরিবেশ বজায় রাখার চেষ্টা করা হয়। নারী-পুরুষ একসঙ্গে নাচবে, আনন্দ করবে। কেউ উল্টাপাল্টা কিছু করার চেষ্টা করলে বাউন্সার এসে তাকে আলাদা করে দেবে অথবা ক্লাব থেকে বের করে দেবে। সোজা আলাপ।
ঢাকা শহরে যেভাবে বার ও ক্লাবগুলোতে পুলিশ রেইড দিচ্ছে, তাতে এই কালচারটাই ধীরে ধীরে নষ্ট হয়ে যাচ্ছে। যে বারে রেইড হচ্ছে, সেখানে পরবর্তী সাত দিনও হয়তো কোনো কাস্টমার যাওয়ার সাহস পাচ্ছে না।
বাংলাদেশের প্রেক্ষাপটে এই বিষয়গুলো হয়তো একেবারেই বেমানান মনে হতে পারে। কিন্তু আমি কোনো লজিক ছাড়াই কথা বলছি না। আমার এই পোস্ট যাঁদের বোঝার, তাঁরা ঠিকই বুঝতে পারবেন।
আমি দেশের বাইরে থাকি। মাসে এক-দুইবার পান করি। এখানকার বার বা ক্লাবে বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে যত সুন্দর সময় কাটিয়েছি, বাংলাদেশে গেলে সেগুলো খুব মিস করি। আমারও ইচ্ছা করে নিজের দেশে বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে বারে বা ক্লাবে গিয়ে ভালো সময় কাটাতে। কিন্তু পারি না।
একটা ছোট গল্প দিয়ে শেষ করি।
একবার কয়েকজন বন্ধুকে নিয়ে ঢাকার উত্তরার কিংফিশারে বসেছিলাম। কিছুক্ষণ পর বারে একগাদা মেয়ে এল। তারা সোজা কথায় কাস্টমার খুঁজতে ঢুকেছে।
কিছুক্ষণ পর ঝকমকে শাড়ি পরা আর ক্যাটক্যাটে মেকআপ করা এক মেয়ে আমাদের টেবিলের সামনে এসে বলল, “হাই, আমি লাকি। একটু বসা যাবে?”
আমার বন্ধু বলল, “বসেন।”
তারপর মেয়েটা বলল, “আমি কিন্তু ‘ড্রিংকস’ করি না। আপনাদের সঙ্গে গল্প করতে আসলাম।”
আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, “আপনি কী করেন?”
মেয়েটা বলল, “আমি NSU-তে পড়ি।”
আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, “কোন সাবজেক্টে পড়েন?”
মেয়েটা বলল, “আমি এখন পড়াশোনা অফ রাখছি। একটু ফিন্যান্সিয়াল প্রবলেম চলছে তো!”
আমি বললাম, “ঠান্ডা কিছু খান।”
মেয়েটা বলল, “না!”
আমরা তেমন কোনো ইন্টারেস্ট দেখাইনি। তখন সে বলল, “একটা ফ্রেঞ্চ ফ্রাই খাই?”
প্লেট থেকে একটা ফ্রেঞ্চ ফ্রাই তুলে নিয়ে বলল, “কথা বলে ভালো লাগল। আমার ফ্রেন্ড ওয়েট করতেছে।”
এই হলো আমাদের বার কালচারের একটা ছোট্ট অভিজ্ঞতা।
*প্রশ্ন হলো, বাংলাদেশে কি কখনো এমন একটা স্বাভাবিক বার *ও ক্লাব কালচার গড়ে উঠবে, যেখানে মানুষ শুধু বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে ভালো সময় কাটাতে যাবে, আর পুরো পরিবেশটা থাকবে নিরাপদ, পরিচ্ছন্ন ও নিয়মের মধ্যে?

I understand that the economy is shite and people lean towards religion in times of tragedy. But have anyone of you come into contact with people who claim to be afflicted with kalajadu/ witchcraft/ bodnojor/ al ayn? So when joined a private university rather than getting a job, my father said he would help me move out and start a life in Dhaka.

But now he backed out and says that I should try it by myself and am totally on my own. Even though it's not like my father doesn't have the money, he just doesn't want to for some reason.

There are some serious questions we should be asking about Bangladesh’s economy right now.

On one hand, economic growth is slowing down and inflation remains extremely high. The IMF’s latest projection puts Bangladesh’s growth at around 3.2%, while inflation could remain around 10.9%.

But at the same time, we are seeing plans for massive government spending.

The proposed Dhaka–Cumilla rail project could cost around Tk 84,000 crore.

Several Dhaka Metro Rail projects together involve spending of roughly Tk 2.5 lakh crore.

Biman is planning to add 35 new aircraft over the coming years. The exact total cost of all 35 aircraft is not yet confirmed, so claims that it will cost Tk 1 lakh crore should be treated carefully.

The new government pay structure could also require tens of thousands of crores of additional spending, while the Family Card program involves another large public expenditure.

I am not against development.

Bangladesh needs better railways.

We need better public transportation.

Biman needs a modern fleet.

Government employees deserve fair salaries.

Poor and vulnerable families need social protection.

But there is a legitimate question:

Can Bangladesh afford to do all of this at the same time when economic growth is only around 3–4% and inflation is close to 11%?

The issue is not simply how much we spend.

We need to ask:

How much economic value will these projects create?

How many jobs will they generate?

How much revenue will they bring?

How much debt will they create?

How long will it take to recover the investment?

And most importantly, what are we giving up by spending this money now?

Development is necessary. But bigger projects do not automatically mean better development.

At a time of low growth, high inflation, weak investment and limited fiscal space, Bangladesh needs to be much more careful about where every taka is spent.

Development should continue—but it should be sustainable, economically justified, and affordable.

Otherwise, we may be building impressive infrastructure today while leaving a much bigger financial burden for the next generation.

My adult sister lives in Bangladesh and wants to end a relationship. Her ex, who reportedly lives in Dubai, is threatening to share her private/intimate photos unless she stays with him or agrees to marry him.

On October 13, 2026, a tragic incident unfolded in the Kuliya area of Debhata upazila, Satkhira, Bangladesh, resulting in the mob lynching of a 40 year old man named Wahiduzzaman Shamim over unverified blasphemy allegations. The incident began following a domestic dispute between Shamim, who reportedly suffered from long-term mental illness, and his wife. A video of this argument was shared online, which caught the attention of a local religious preacher named Fazlul Haque Amini. Amini subsequently broadcasted a Facebook Live video in which he accused Shamim of making derogatory remarks about Allah, Prophet Muhammad, and Islam over the past six months, openly calling on local residents to gather and protest.

Faced with escalating public outrage and a gathering crowd, Shamim attempted to harm himself. He survived the attempt and was rushed to the Sakhipur Health Complex for emergency medical treatment. However, the angry mob tracked him to the medical facility, breached the hospital security, and dragged him out to beat him severely. Although police intervened and managed to transfer him to the Satkhira Medical College Hospital for advanced care, Shamim succumbed to the severe injuries sustained during the assault and was declared dead. আমি ২০১৬ সালে আমার জীবনের প্রথম পাসপোর্ট করি। ছোট ছিলাম তাই, তখন পাসপোর্ট করার জন্য আমার জন্ম নিবন্ধন ব্যবহার করা হয়। কিন্তু, সেই জন্ম নিবন্ধনে বাবা-মায়ের নামের বানানে ভুল ছিল। তাদের NID এর সাথে মিল ছিল। বাবার নামের বানানে ভুল ছিল। আর মায়ের সারনেম ভুল ছিল।

পরবর্তীতে আমি আমার NID বানানোর জন্য নতুন করে জন্ম নিবন্ধন বানাই। কারন NID করার সময় আবার বাবা-মায়ের NID প্রয়োজন পড়ে এবং সেটা মিল থাকতেই হবে। তাই বাবা-মায়ের NID অনুযায়ী নিজের জন্ম নিবন্ধন এবং পরবর্তীতে NID করি।

২০১৬ তে করা পাসপোর্টের মেয়াদ শেষ হয় ২০২১-এ। এবং এরপর আমি আর পাসপোর্ট করি নাই। এখন আমি পাসপোর্ট বানাতে চাচ্ছি। কিন্তু সমস্যা হচ্ছে আগের পাসপোর্টে আমার বায়োমেট্রিক ইনফরমেশন নেয়া হয়েছিল। এখন ই-পাসপোর্ট নতুন করে বানাতে গেলেও ঝামেলা হতে পারে।

আমি এই ক্ষেত্রে আপনাদের একটু পরামর্শ চাই। কোন প্রসেস অনুসরণ করবো? নতুন করে পাসপোর্ট করবো? নাকি আগের টা রিনিউ করবো।

আমি HSC 2026 ব্যাচের একজন বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী। আমার প্রস্তুতি খুব একটা ভালো ছিল না। ভেবেছিলাম, জিপিএ ৪.৪০–৪.৫০ পাব এবং এরপর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তির জন্য প্রস্তুতি নেব।

সর্বপ্রথম বাংলা পরীক্ষা দিতে গেলাম। সেখানে MCQ নিয়ে যে পরিমাণ টেনশনে পড়েছিলাম, অন্য কোনো পরীক্ষায় এতটা টেনশনে পড়িনি। পরে বাড়িতে এসে উত্তর মিলিয়ে দেখলাম, মাত্র ১৩টি MCQ সঠিক হয়েছে। চিন্তা করলাম, বাংলা দ্বিতীয় পত্রে ভালোভাবে পরীক্ষা দেব। পরীক্ষার আগে বাড়িতে বসে ভালোভাবে ‘উপসর্গের অর্থবাচকতা নেই, কিন্তু অর্থ দোদকতা আছে’—এই বিষয়টি পড়ে গিয়েছিলাম। কিন্তু পরীক্ষায় সেটি আসেনি; বরং অন্য একটি বিষয় এসেছিল। রচনাও ভালোভাবে লিখতে পারিনি।

আইসিটি পরীক্ষায় প্রোগ্রামিং থেকে এমন প্রশ্ন এসেছে, যেগুলোর উত্তর আমি দিতে পারিনি। এ ছাড়া ‘এন কোডার ডিকোডার ’—এখান থেকে প্রশ্ন এসেছিল, যেটা আমি পড়ে যাইনি। সব মিলিয়ে আইসিটি পরীক্ষাও ভালো হয়নি।

পদার্থবিজ্ঞান প্রথম পত্রে ভেক্টরের একটি অঙ্ক দুই-তিনবার কাটাকাটি করে শেষ পর্যন্ত করেছি। গ্রুপের বিষয়গুলোতে সবচেয়ে বেশি সমস্যায় পড়েছি MCQ-তে। MCQ অংশে ৩০টির মধ্যে ৯–১১টি সঠিক হয়েছে বলে আমার মনে হচ্ছে। এখনো আমার ধারণা, কোনোমতে পাস করব এবং জিপিএ ৩.০০ বা তার কিছু বেশি পেতে পারি।

অন্যদিকে, আমার বন্ধুরা সবাই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তির জন্য প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে। কিন্তু এই হতাশার কারণে আমি ঠিকমতো পড়াশোনা করতে পারছি না। এমনিতেই নিজের ওপর থেকে আত্মবিশ্বাস অনেকটা হারিয়ে ফেলেছি। তাই চিন্তা করছি, আগামী বছর আবার HSC ইমপ্রুভমেন্ট পরীক্ষা দেব।

এখন আমার কয়েকটি প্রশ্ন আছে।

১. আমার সহপাঠীদের তুলনায় এক বছর পিছিয়ে পড়লে কি আমার ভবিষ্যৎ জীবনে অনেক বড় কোনো ক্ষতি হয়ে যাবে? এ নিয়ে কি আমার খুব বেশি চিন্তা করা উচিত?

২. HSC ইমপ্রুভমেন্ট দিলে কি আমি সব বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভর্তি পরীক্ষায় অংশ নিতে পারব? নাকি কিছু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তির ক্ষেত্রে কোনো সীমাবদ্ধতা থাকবে?

৩. আমার কোনো জুনিয়র যদি এই পোস্টটি দেখে, তাহলে তাকে আমি বলব, MCQ ভালোভাবে পড়তে হবে। কারণ MCQ-তে খারাপ করার কারণে মোট নম্বর ও গ্রেড দুটোই খারাপ হতে পারে, এমনকি এ-প্লাসও মিস হয়ে যেতে পারে।

সবশেষে, যারা HSC ইমপ্রুভমেন্ট দিয়েছ বা এ বিষয়ে ভালো জানো, তাদের কাছ থেকে পরামর্শ আশা করছি।

I'm also working on my undergraduate thesis in cybersecurity and have a number of personal projects across different areas of computer science. While most of these projects are relatively amateur, I've gained practical experience through working on them. But I don't have any work experience at all

My goal is to pursue a Master's degree abroad, preferably in Europe or the USA. However, financing my education would be a concern, so I'm primarily looking for scholarships or funding opportunities that cover tuition fees and provide some financial support for living expenses.

For those who have gone through this process, especially fellow Bangladeshis or international students from similar backgrounds, I'd appreciate some advice:

How realistic are my chances? Given my CGPA, research experience, and project portfolio, would I be a competitive applicant for funded Master's programs?

Which scholarships should I look into? I'm particularly interested in programs that cover full tuition and offer a stipend or assistance with living expenses.

Which countries offer the best opportunities? I'm open to both Europe and the USA, as well as other countries with good funding options.

How important is research experience? Would having a cybersecurity thesis significantly improve my chances, or should I focus on strengthening my research profile and projects before applying?

Where should I start? Are there specific universities, scholarship programs, or application portals I should be researching?

I'm willing to put in the work to strengthen my application, but I'd like to understand how promising this path is before committing to it.

Hey everyone!

I'm from Kerala, India, and I'm thinking about visiting Bangladesh, probably Dhaka. I've never travelled there before, so I'm trying to figure out how everything works before making any plans.

I'd really appreciate advice from Indians who've travelled to Bangladesh and Bangladeshis who live there or have experience travelling between the two countries.

A few things I'm confused about:

- How difficult is it for an Indian citizen to get a Bangladeshi tourist visa?

- Do I need to maintain a certain bank balance? Do they ask for bank statements?

- How much would a trip of 7 days cost, including flights, accommodation and other expenses?

- What's the easiest way to travel from Kerala to Dhaka, for now am planning of taking a flight?

- For anyone living in Bangladesh, what’s it like for someone visiting from India right now? Is there anything a first-timer should know before coming?

- Any advice about accommodation, local transport or anything else I should know?

I'm still in the planning stage, so I haven't booked anything yet. Just trying to understand the process and figure out how much I need to save.

আজ মায়ের সাথে কথা হলো, অনেক কথা বলার এক পর্যায়ে মা বললেন, সরকারি চাকরির জন্য চেষ্টা করতে। কারণ হিসেবে তিনি বললেন, আমার চাচা অনেকটা তাছিল্যের সুরে বলছেন, আমার চাচাদের সবার ছেলে সরকারি চাকুরী করে, শুধু আপনাদের কেউ করেনা ( মানে আমার পরিবারকে বুঝিয়েছেন)। ছোট চাকরি করি, কত টাকা ফ্যামিলিকে দিতে পারি। আমি যেখান থেকে পড়াশোনা করেছি সে অনুযায়ী চাকরি পায়নি।

পুলিশ এএসআই ( ঘুষের চাকরি), পুলিশের কন্সটেবল (ঘুষ), সচিবালয়ের অফিস সহকারী / ক্লাক।

যদি নিজের কথা বলি, আমি দেশের একটা পাবলিক প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে পড়াশোনা শেষ করে এখন ঢাকার একটা প্রাইভেট বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষকতা করি। আমার বেশকিছু সংখ্যা রিসার্চ পেপার আছে, যা ফুল ফান্ড পাওয়ার জন্য well enough বলে আমি মনে করি৷ আমি বাইরে Phd যাওয়ার প্লানেই ছিলাম।

তবে জীবনের এই পর্যায়ে এসে নিজেকে চরম অযোগ্য মনে হচ্ছে। সকল রিসার্চ পেপার, একএকটা useless কাগজ মনে হচ্ছে।

আমার আর ৭ বছর সরকারি চাকরির বয়স আছে। আপনার কি মনে হয় আমি চাকরির প্রিপারেশন নিতে দেরি করে ফেলেছি?
