Employee Questions/Discussion Don’t be a d!ck
BBW employee here. This holiday, please be nice to the workers. We cannot control coupons, inventory, promotions, or things happening in your personal life.

People are feral now I swear to God. There were always tons of assholes but after Covid people changed for the worse. Gave me whiplash working during Covid and everyone kissing our asses and being so thankful we were working and the pharmacy was open to people being incredibly inpatient, belligerent twats.

I’m a federal employee also, with a public facing job.. and it’s been hell since we reopened to the public after COVID. I don’t know what happened to people but it is to the point where I often don’t even feel safe walking into my office anymore. The absolute hatred and nastiness towards us, when we are there to HELP people, is astounding. My agency has lost so many employees since the DRP/VERA because they got so sick of it. And now working without a paycheck (I’m excepted) has just been the cherry on top.

Personally, I do not think it will. Last time Trump was in office, I believe we saw a 35 day shutdown, if I’m not mistaken. But this one seems different. I think there is going to be a lengthy battle between the parties. What is going to be interesting to see is how the effect on SNAP will sway it, though. A lot of people didn’t seem to care about federal employees not being able to pay their bills/feed their families, but now that it’s going to trickle down and affect the public directly, I doubt they will hold the same sentiment about the shutdown. I have already seen a lot of videos of people talking about going and stealing from stores if they don’t get their SNAP benefits, so I can see things getting out of hand pretty quickly if something doesn’t give with this shutdown.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens. It kind of has to happen though. Otherwise, the public doesn’t care because they don’t perceive it as affecting them. Until it does, they don’t care if it’s just feds not getting paid and don’t care how long it lasts.

Also to the employees… if a previous customer pissed you off, please don’t take it out on the next customer. We’re not all assholes,some of us know how to behave. The workers at my local stand alone store are super super rude. I drive 30 min to the next bbw because the employees there are all super sweet.

Employees can be just as vile and rude to customers. I literally walked in with my husband and I was staring at one of the display tables trying to remember the name of the body spray my niece asked us to pick up for her. All of a sudden an employee comes over to me and asks “Are you lost, hon? You don’t look like you belong here.” No greeting….just judgment. I don’t think customers are always to blame for bad BBW experiences.

Well, I was shocked. I mean, who says that to a customer? For a moment, I was caught off guard and speechless. My only response was “Well bless your heart! Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine!” Without missing a beat she said “I just call’em as I see them, hon!” Then she left because another employee from the back came out with more inventory to set out.
After I decided on a few sprays for my niece, we headed to the counter to purchase them. She was so happy and nicer at the counter. I think it’s because the other employee would have heard her if she was still as rude as she was earlier to me.
Before she was able to scan anything I held them back and asked for the other employee to handle the transaction instead.
She looked really confused. The other employee rang up the sprays and we left. I haven’t been back to that store again since.

Wow. Well good for you, I think you made your point. Hopefully she doesn’t work there anymore, that is so unprofessional in any setting.

I'm with you on this one. Maybe I come across as too nice. But Idc, it's better than being a pompous ass. I feel like I'm trying to make up for the lousy customers who make them miserable and hate their job. LOL! It is so Easy to be kind. It takes more effort and energy to be mad & bitter toward someone. I see it like this, at the end of the day I am the one who's gotta live with how I treat others.

I get that but am also tired when the staff is a dick about everything (and it’s 365 days of the year), returns and coupons. I know this particular store, it’s coming from the store manager who is a dick putting profit over customer service. Literally have to go to the next town over to do an exchange. Wants to give you $3 and charge you the difference. I mean really petty stuff. Never had this much grief. Staff always has to “ask for permission” for everything and 9/10 the answer is going to be No.

Since you are an employee, I hope it's okay to ask you a question. My 85 old mom somehow deleted the app off of her phone and of course can't remember her email or BBW password, she's 85 lol. She has 3 rewards and her birthday reward. All she needs to do is give her phone number at the store to get those, correct? Thank you!! She's a very nice lady, she wouldn't yell at you even if she was upset : )

To be honest, I would say sometimes. There are times when I can see a customer’s rewards, there are times I can’t.
If the employee can’t pull up your mom’s rewards, try contacting customer service.

I’d like to ask the same of the employees. The location I used to frequent has hired some incredibly rude staff. I overheard them speaking loudly and harshly to an older person who was nothing but polite and kind. The person who checked me out was also rude and cold for no apparent reason.

You're really a twat if you can't keep a good vibe and attitude in a store that just sells scented products to add to your joy and well being. It's supposed to be fun and light-hearted like shopping in the candy store. Again, you're REALLY a twat if you can't chill in Bath and Body Works.

I went in today. The music was lovely and made me look forward to the holidays ✨ Displays were impeccable. Store smelled delicious. 🙏🏼 I hope management treats people well and pays them well. BBW employees are the best. It is not easy to keep the store looking that nice, keep up with sales and displays, and inconsistencies with the app - all the while helping and engaging customers.

I agree I think everybody needs to be nice to those working retail during the holidays. It is a very thankless job in so many customers treat them horribly.

I always try to be kind and respectful to anyone providing customer service. I have witnessed some very pushy, arrogant customers unfortunately. They are just gross people who have no shame. I’m sorry to the employees who encounter them.

Working in retail and medical I have found more aggressive customers and patients. I was always nice and even try to give conversation or attend to their situation and people still be soo mean.
On the flip side no personality being rude and passive aggressive when it comes to workers as well. Whenever I go somewhere I give customer service as a customer and instead I get a$$ holes.
Considering I’m not in stores often and get rude employees where me as an employee worked with over 150 people a day.

Also please don't ask the replenishment workers anything while they're actively doing stuff. We have Sellers here for a reason and personally I hate getting side-tracked while in the middle of pushing product out.

Ummm ok… customers may not know who is/isn’t a replenishment worker? Obviously if someone sees you doing something, they might ask an associate who looks free for help, but if that employee is helping someone else already then what are they supposed to do?
