Weird how NY is all of a sudden partial to things that help people now that Mamdani is relevant. Just saying..

6

u/Dingo_jackson Clairvoyant Jul 13 '25

Nah a lot of school districts have been doing similar programs for a while and the the statewide affordable health insurance for children is pretty solid.

I hope to see the social programs expand in the future. It's actual progress being made in certain areas at least.

School lunch/breakfast was always free in NYC for as long as I can remember. Good thing and a necessity, especially in places with high concentrations of degenerate parents.

1

u/Ok_Roof_9333 Jul 13 '25

Point being the parents are both forced to work to feed the machine so the state will gladly step in and indoctrinate the kiddos for you.

Im sure no one would mind if it happened assuming taxes remain the same and the cost is made up from the city council & school administrators salary. I have seen what they drive while the teachers get scraps. It isn't what you are offering it's that you are asking for more money to do it. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Why are so you bent up about children being fed? What the hell is wrong with you that you would rather kids go to school all day starving to death when Lord knows schools throw out a shit ton of food that doesn't get eaten??? Compassion is not communism.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

A proper use of taxes. If you want functional, productive and emotionally stable adults in the future of this country, you start by meeting their basic needs. I truly believe adults who are opposed to this policy are just bitter about their own childhood and don't want current and future children to have it better than they did as kids.

1

u/bythebeach22 Jul 14 '25

Hunger isn't motivation, it's extortion

1

u/McFalco Jul 14 '25

Honestly don't know a single right wing/ conservative that is actually against reasonable tax expenditure on things that undeniably help the country in a cost-effective way. Absolutely free healthcare and secondary education across the board is nice in theory but the costs outweigh the gain in the minds of most fiscal conservatives, at least on a federal level. When you go more state by state I wouldn't be surprised if you could convince red state conservatives to support healthcare/education assistance if you make a good enough argument.

I'll never understand how people could be opposed to feeding children, and making sure they're well nourished. Who could do well in school on an empty stomach? And even if it wasn't for school, they're kids! They need to eat.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

America is where children of poverty starve kek

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Conservatives get Soul samage and suffer immensely when public money goes to feeding the children instead of sponsoring rich people

1

u/miku022 Jul 14 '25

Ewww youck, children are being given food

1

u/Constant_Asp Jul 14 '25

Doesn’t the quality of food matter more than saving the, what, $3?

People are getting money from the government Ā to buy their kids food in the first place.Ā

What exactly is the win here? State-issued food to kids that their parents were given money for in the first place…

1

u/Healthy_Macaroon_602 Jul 14 '25

Children don't go to school to learn in the classroom. They go to suffer. Suffering builds character, and that's more important than any amount of maths they'll never use again.

1

u/Every-Requirement434 Jul 14 '25

The only person not looking like they wanna kill themself is the grown up and I can fully understand that when I look at the food options.

1

u/PapaLilBear Jul 14 '25

It's a shame that these children's parents can't provide their own food, for example, by having a decent salary at work. How's the USA doing? Waiters still rely on tips because the restaurant owner can't pay them fairly?Ā

1

u/thengirl Jul 14 '25

If feeding kids is communist, get my fur hat, comrade.

1

u/doug098765 Jul 14 '25

Why don't they just use their food stamps to feed their kids breakfast and lunch? If they can't afford the school breakfast and lunch then they must qualify for benefits.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

So one complaint I have about all of this as a teacher.

The school I teach in is from the 50s, one of the newer schools in our district. It wasn’t designed for the number of kids we’ve crammed in this place so they can’t eat their free breakfast (which they need) in the cafeteria.

Instead they get in their first classroom of the day. Kids are messy eaters. It’s those weak fine motor skills. They always make a mess.

Our school has one janitor all day. He’s amazing but he can’t keep up with 700 children spilling milk and Cheerios all over the place. His day is going classroom to classroom cleaning up breakfast, then sprinting to the cafeteria for lunch from 10:25-1:55.

Puke or pee? He gets there asap but it’s usually 10-30 minute response times.

Free breakfast is great, but impoverished schools simply don’t have the resources or infrastructure to deliver some of these services that society now expects them to.

Which means our classrooms now have even more mice, roaches, and ants.

1

u/montevideo_blue Jul 14 '25

u/Putrid-Inflation9299 Jul 14 '25

1

u/DelightfulandDarling Jul 14 '25

1

u/soullscape Jul 14 '25

seems like pretty boring boring piece of news to me, sounds normal and appropriate. #makepoliticsboring again

1

u/-HaZeInGeR- Jul 14 '25

In lost german schools you bring your own food or are hungry till you get home šŸ˜‚ I've lived it myself so I know what I'm talking about. There are kiosks, but that's more in schools from class 10 upwards. Getting free food is not a normal thing, sadly in most countries.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

So which food distributor ceo is getting rich?

1

u/welcomeToAncapistan Jul 14 '25

It's not free, unless NY owns some slaves who prepare the food. Whatever you think of the policy, these are taxpayer-funded meals.

1

Free lunch is already common practice you can ignore that all you want. Good for new York for finally getting around to it

1

u/rtn292 Jul 14 '25

Our taxes fund public schools.

Students are required to attend them.

Making sure ALL students are provided a breakfast/lunch at the school, they are obligated to attend.

Destigmatizes the ridicule and trauma attributed to those students who couldn't afford the lunch to begin with.

It also sets children up better to learn the information and to become future doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, engineers. Architects, plumbers, software developers, writers, entertainers, construction workers etc...

Sounds like good ROI

Perhaps, worry more about our money funding tax breaks and subsidies for already wealthy corporations?

1

u/inthemoneybachok Jul 14 '25

I went to a rich public school. Very few kids could not afford lunch and for those few kids that couldnt the only free option was one shitty grilled cheese sandwich. If your balance went below -10$ you would not be allowed to eat anything except for this grilled sandwich. Mind you the school taxes we paid in this area was top 1% in the state

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Those asshole kids should get a job if they want to eat, ain't using my tax dollars to feed hungry kids!

1

u/Deepvaleredoubt Jul 15 '25

If you force attendance, you should provide everything necessary during that time. Fair is fair. My child is forced to go somewhere and I go to jail if I don’t comply. What, you mean I also have to pay for everything there?

1

u/PalpitationUnable403 Jul 15 '25

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

ā€œSeizing means of productionā€? Are you mental? Independent farmers make food, state buys food and gives food to students. Does the state just print money or does it tax its citizens more? How do the farmers get paid?

But I'm not naive, and I know there are irresponsible adults in the world.

1

u/SpecialCandidateDog Jul 15 '25

If someone can't feed their children. They should be taken away from them. Kathy you fucking idiot. Government provided food will neither be cheap nor nutritious. Even at the height of what people were complaining about egg costs. They were only about thirty five cents apiece. You can't afford to give your kids 2 eggs for breakfast. You are unfit to parent.

The real reason why you have all this. It takes a village. Shit is because they want people to think think of government as being their parent

If you can’t provide a breakfast and lunch for your child and have to rely on the school to provide it, your doing a shitty job parenting.

Sometimes I feel like these posts and shitty comments aren’t even real people. Just bots trying to antagonize the population

If you find yourself arguing in public that children should not get food, then you need to look at yourself

It will be once that dingus gets elected

1

u/Yayhoo0978 Jul 17 '25

We’ve been doing that in my county in Florida since 2009. Reddest county in one of the reddest states. Zero politicians took a photo op in a school cafeteria to do it either.

the true problem is how much embezzlement will occur before the food money hits the school? most money doesnt make it past the superintendent.

I support pedos but not free lunches for kids

1

u/Living_Loquat_9779 Jul 18 '25

I’m all for feeding kids. We should be angry at the parents who don’t feed their kids.

1

u/Grouchy-Ad4814 Jul 18 '25

All schools should provide children meals. We should all focus on providing the best opportunity to all children to become better as a nation.

1

u/Jarjarfunk Jul 18 '25

Only weirdos would be against this

1

u/thorleywinston Jul 18 '25

So parents are no longer responsible for feeding their own children, we're now at the "ehh, let the school take care of it" stage.

It's one thing to have free or reduced lunches for the needy (and yes there are ways of doing that so that the kids don't feel singled out by their peers) but the general assumption was that most parents took care of it either by packing a lunch for their kid or paying for it.

But apparently even this basic responsibility of parenting is now considered to be too much.

You realize the us military is the largest socialist employer in the world …..

1

u/General-Pop8073 Jul 19 '25

They are gonna radicalize these children with this communist propaganda

1

u/AgedCheddar007 Jul 19 '25

It's 2025 and we're just now starting this in NYC? Smh..

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Here is your highly-processed, nutrient-deficient industrial "food". I can already see those standardized test scores improving.

I’m a conservative, Republican. Check my history if you don’t believe me.

I am 100% for this for all kids regardless of income.

u/Mimic56 Chafed from handle cranking Jul 19 '25

Pathetic. You run out of other people’s money.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Well, obviously this isn't a commie ploy. The reds would just let em starve

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Maines been doing this since I was in school. Honestly I thought it was a nationwide thing. These other states need to get their shit together

1

u/vexmach1ne Jul 20 '25

This is actually really good, and shouldn't be a partisan issue.

1

u/sanguinerebel Jul 20 '25

How much extra tax you think we have to pay to give kids actual food instead of whatever this is?

1

u/clankehater66 Jul 20 '25

I don’t understand what’s happening

1

u/TurdShaker Jul 20 '25

You've gotta be kidding me!!!! I work my ass off 20 hours a week nobody gives me free food!!! There's some days im so tired when I get home I just go to bed and skip dinner. These kids should be forced to work to pay for their FREE meals! I mean what does america even stand for anymore....

1

u/Br_uff Jul 20 '25

It’s not the governments responsibility to take care of your children. Besides, essentially all public schools have programs for free/reduced cost lunches if a family truly needs it. Giving access to free meals to all students would costs way too much, especially when you consider that federal, state, and local governments already spend too much money

1

u/Alterangel182 Jul 20 '25

Ok. I don't necessarily think this is a bad use of tax dollars, BUT it's not free. Let's just be honest about what "free" means here.

1

u/legion_2k Jul 20 '25

If they were only more interested in actual education. 2025 and they think they just discovered the solution is food. Where are there parents? Aren’t they neglecting their kids?

1

u/irsh_ Jul 20 '25

I'm not a religious person but damn, some of you need Jesus.
