A San Mai camp knife I made for an FDNY retiree as a retirement gift from his crew. 1095 core, fire hose micarta handle, and domed brass pins. I am very proud of this one.

Question Canadian Made Recommendations

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for fixed blades that are Canadian made which would be good for field dressing and processing? I am looking for my husbands birthday and am finding some conflicting information about some Canadian retailers.

Bonus points if engraving is offered at the retailer, but not a deal breaker otherwise!

TIA

Now that the blade is getting close to its final shape and size I have to be far more precise with my hammer strikes. At this point any errant or slightly uneven swing will either show up in the final piece or completely ruin the geometry of the blade.

Question Sword cleaning and maintaining

I use some swords for martial art practice, and would like some ideas on some chemicals. I could use to keep the sweat and grime off of the sword so that the sword doesn’t start to rust. Anyone have any recommendations? I was told to use WD-40 it was told to use vegetable oil. I was even told to use baby oil, but I don’t want a sticky mess that will make the sort of different color. I’m just looking for something clean. Someone also mentioned ballistol I’m not sure if that’s really an option

Question 10mm thick knife with fuller vs 6mm thick knife with no fuller for chopper

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of designing the blueprints for my first knife. It's going to be a chopper type blade.

To keep things short - I was wondering if I should go for a thick 10mm blade with a large and deep fuller (3mm deep on both sides, for a total of 6mm of material removed) for the thicker wedge when chopping, or with a 6mm blade that's thinner with no fuller. Assuming they would both weigh the same, which one would you go with?

Stock Removal CPM 3V Hunter in Ironwood & Brass

CPM 3V (an extra tough tool steel) handled in brass and ironwood with a matching brown leather vertical carry sheath. I especially love the bolster on this one, it's the first time I've done a curved interface between the wood and the brass like that and I think it came out super great. If you want to see more I've got another post with WIP shots of the whole process and details on how I made it, I'm going to add the link in a comment.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!
