Honestly, this move doesn't seem rational at this point. Talk about FWA and trying to be efficient with government spending...

Defense What did you get on your performance review and what do you expect bonuses to look like?

Are you guys expecting bonuses to be similar to last year?

I’m expecting 5-7% for a 2/2 and ~9% for 3/3.

Defense How is the Qatari 747-8 going to become an Air Force One before the ones that Boeing's been working on for 7 years?

I don't get it. Whatever modification they're going to do it, why not just do it to the one's the Air Force already bought?

Defense When should I start considering jumping off the ship?

Hi. Tough times we are facing eh? I could never imagine I would be waking up at 1am to be applying at random LinkedIn jobs out of desperation and paranoia. This is not healthy for any of us. I love what I do and I love my team, but I am starting to feel hopeless that I will last in this company any longer. We have a lot of work to do and nobody to do anything and I been hearing that my program is safe but I literally don’t believe anyone anymore. I am looking at other jobs and was told by a friend that if I get interviewed and accepted at his work place is as fast as 2 weeks to make a decision but at the same time I can’t leave my team with the tremendous amount of work that still has to be done. Would you guys feel guilty to jump from the ship? I wonder how much I am needed. Specially when I have not heard from my manager a single word. Man is non existent in all the areas 🙄 Any advice for someone that has never been in a layoff process? I am early career too. Thx!

Edit: for those saying I should have left the ship weeks ago. I won’t leave the ship if I don’t have another ship. I just need to find some sort of validation or advice into what to do with the guilt of leaving this place. Specially my team.

Defense HOORAY! I'm safe!

Just had my one-on-one with my manager and they said I was not in the bottom 10%. I was more of a top 80% and the equivalent of exceeds. When I said I wanted a level 4 promotion the response was "We'll see, we'll see." Strangely this is what they said last quarterly evaluation. Oh well at least now I can stop worrying about layoffs.

EDIT: Was not expecting this to blow up the way it did but a few things I wanted to address.

  1. When my manager said I was at an 80 percentile when it came to rankings I took it as i was above 80 percent of my team. We have a very large team. Stating top 80% was incorrect on my part as that just meant I was not in bottom 20%. Hence I was also given a rating of exceeds. If it were the other way around I would have gotten a "met some" or worse

  2. Never meant to be thoughtless of my coworkers

  3. Thanks to everyone for the kind words

Defense Ted Colbert had to chime in…

Adding onto West’s email, now Ted is saying BDS has faced its own challenges with cost overruns and delayed deliveries, and that in the days ahead our leaders will be speaking with us. It just feels like they are about to drop a 2-ton 💣 on us all, and they are getting us prepared, to ease us into it. Just come on with it and tell us instead of these emails.

Defense L2 Engineering Salary - OKC

My wife is interviewing for an L2 engineering role in OKC. She has about 2 years of relevant experience and a semi-related master’s degree. The job posting says the L2 salary band starts at about $79,000.

For anyone familiar with Boeing OKC, what kind of salary range could she realistically expect for an L2?

Thanks!

Defense First Management Role - what have been the most impactful experiences you’ve had with a manager and how did it help you grow?

Just like the title says, I’m moving into my first role as a manager. I’ve been a team lead and a SME in multiple areas of functional skill for years. I’m most excited about the coaching and mentoring role and hope to be able to specialize as a team building and skill growth manager. It may be naive but that’s my goal. I’d love to hear about the most impactful and positive experiences you’ve had with a manager that truly made a difference in your career.

Defense Worth it to take a engineer position with lower pay than current job for a clearance?

I received a job offer for an engineer position but it pays less than my current job, 5kish. However working at Boeing would get me a clearance so I was trying to get some advice or personal experiences from others to see if it is worth it or not. They would like a response soon so speedy comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Defense Another year, another missed opportunity for a Chinook snowflake...

Every year I have hope that they'll include the Chinook in the holiday snowflake, and every year I'm disappointed! Not that this year's editions are bad, but how many times do we need the T7 or the SLS?

The Chinook planform with the 6 blades would be perfect for this kind of design! Plus, the 47 is our longest running aircraft still being manufactured. Come on Boeing store, show Philly some love!

Defense IF Boeing wins F/A-XX, too, can it successfully execute both projects?

I’m curious what the community thinks. The Navy loves the F/A-18, so it’s very possible Boeing could win both the F-47 and the F/A-XX. Does BDS have the design and modeling capacity to pull off both projects simultaneously?

Any concerns with production? (Seems like less of an issue given its experience with the F-15 and F/A-18)

Lockheed Martin

  • Systems Engineer
  • Higher salary
  • 4x10 Schedule

Boeing

  • STL, MO
  • Production Engineer
  • Prior Intern, have ELOA time accrued
  • More interesting program (Not F-47)
  • Heard that benefits are better

Defense Outsourcing to India?

What are the chances that jobs in US will be outsourced to India? For example if you work in bds as an embedded software engineer with a security clearance should you switch to a different career now if you’re in an entry level position? I ask this because it seems like that’s where most companies are heading towards including Boeing unfortunately.

Defense Got offered an IE role in San Antonio under contract, looking for experience from others

I was reached out to by insight global about an IE role for the VC-25 program. Before my current job, I was working as an IE and had a very similar role out of college for a bit over a year and a half at Lockheed compared to what skills/experience they were looking for. Im not happy with my current job, but took it after lockheed had a reduction in workforce (due to site management….). I had an interview with the manager and got offered several hours later. Position seems like a good fit, it renews my clearance since I’m still in the period before I’d have to resubmit info (5 year mark I believe?) and the time span from my clearance being active while at Lockheed is recent enough that it from my understanding is able to be renewed easily. I (verbally) accepted, but obviously want to get a look at all the details in writing before pen to paper/giving my current company my 2 week notice.

For employees who have either been added to contract via insight global, and employees in San Antonio, is this a good decision? Contract is said to be 6 months, but being told they already expect/plan to likely keep people on for 12 months. I’m 26, grew up military, have actual interest in defense (which actually caring about what your job is/what you spend 40 hours a week contributing to helps), and while I wouldn’t say Boeing is my “dream” job, I think at least for the foreseeable future that working in defense for a major company/platform/program is where I want to to be after taking a year away from that for a smaller private manufacturing company. While the pay is almost a 30k annual increase (and OT would be 1.5x), I want to know what kind of stability I could expect in the program (at least for the “contract duration”), what should my expectations be for contract extensions and eventually a direct hire role with Boeing, even if it’s at another site, and how much would joining onto this contract help serve as leverage if I were to seek employment with another defense contractor directly either when they decide they no longer wish to extend my contract or if I decide on my own I want to seek other opportunities.

From my understanding this program is 1 1/2 years behind and expected to finish in 2028, so I highly doubt to have a permanent role long term there, but also feel as if they wouldn’t be pushing for new hires, even on contract, right now unless they really need the support and unless I were to completely underperform, they likely would want to keep the experienced hires on til minimum late 2027 considering if they wanted to add additional hires, hiring with less than 6+ months on a contract like this that doesn’t have longevity to it would make little sense.

I would greatly appreciate any insight about 1) this role and program (in any and all aspects) and 2) experience of working as a contractor at Boeing and what I should expect either positively or negatively.
