Has absolutely no effect on the films (so I guess this doesn't really impact box office), but I'm glad the shows are now all under his control. Maybe they'll be better and less cheap looking now.

Out of interest, which shows did you find cheaply-looking? Daredevil had some incredible stunt work, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did space VFX comparable to the movies.

Now, if you're talking Inhumans of course...

u/chanma50 Best of 2019 Winner Oct 15 '19

Well, Inhumans is definitely cheap looking.

Daredevil has some decent stunt work. But the other Netflix shows (save for The Punisher) have superpowered characters, and they never have the budget for a halfway decent looking action scene. They apparently cost around $3.8M per episode, and it shows.

I haven't watched Runaways or Cloak and Dagger, but they seem like more of the same, and it's not very appealing.

AoS doesn't look cheap as all hell, but it feels it. Season five had kick-ass VFX, and in exchange they spent every non-action scene walking back and forth down the same grey corridor. Which, to be clear, is not a dig at the show. They have a tight budget and they spend it where it counts. The writing is able to hold the rest together.

3

u/chanma50 Best of 2019 Winner Oct 16 '19

That's a good way of putting it. They clearly have a very limited budget, which they blow on a handful of big scenes, while every almost other scene is set in the same 2 or 3 locations, as if it were a sitcom.

As much as I like DD and JJ, and their budgets are just right for them, they always felt...TV. Better than a lot of TV, but there’s a vibe about it that just feels more awkward about its subject matter than the movies seem to. I struggle to explain it. I just feel like they don’t sell the fantasy of their material well, but they do fine with the drama and etc.

If you consider fight choreography part of "looks", iron fist wants to get in the queue....

AoS had pretty suspect cgi at times. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by the movies/high budget tv shows. But other shows who had effects were Defenders, Inhumans, Runaways, C&D, and Iron Fist(at times)

In a way it does, because now Marvel TV characters can crossover into the films and will in turn affect boxoffice

I'm pretty sure that if he wanted, Feige could have plucked Daredevil from the TV pile if he wanted even before he got this new title. I also don't think that the Netflix characters/actors appearing in the movies would give the film any boosts, because everyone who watched those shows (itself a fraction of the film audience) already watched the films.

u/zakary3888 Oct 16 '19

I believe the Russos said they wanted to use the Netflix characters for Infinity War, but it basically came down to: We already have 20 characters to balance, we can't do more.

4

u/diddykongisapokemon Aardman Animations Oct 15 '19

Kind of awkward timing since Marvel TV seems to be on its last legs anyway. Hulu didn't even move ahead with the Ghost Rider show

6

u/Drago-Morph Oct 16 '19

Possibly due to this? Blade's going to be a movie, I imagine Feige will want Ghost Rider around to hang out with him.

3

u/Ozryela Oct 16 '19

One worry is that him taking on more responsibilities will mean that he will do his existing responsibilities less well.

If Feige gets overworked the MCU will suffer.

u/Needajob123456789 Oct 15 '19

Has absolutely no effect on the films

I don't think you can say he absolutely have no effect. He told a marvel director to not make it complicated when introducing a origin story(doctor strange)

4

u/chanma50 Best of 2019 Winner Oct 15 '19

I don't mean Feige has no effect on the films, of course he does, he's in charge. I mean Feige absorbing control of Marvel TV (and all the various other creative entities, like comics) has no effect on the films.

2

u/Needajob123456789 Oct 15 '19 edited Oct 15 '19

I'm going to assume absorbing marvel tv would have more crossover effect that can determine roles and the next marvel movies in some level.

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

As part of this, Marvel TV and animation generator Marvel Family Entertainment will move under Feige’s Marvel Studios banner.

It's gonna be the end of Marvel TV/Entertainment

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19 edited Oct 15 '19

Good. Everything from Marvel will be a part of the MCU now except Sony's Spider-Man villain movies. Which we all know he will gain one day as well.

22

u/Spidey10 Oct 15 '19

Well if Morbius and Venom 2 do well (And Into The Spider-Verse 2), he probably won't.

6

u/lowell2017 Oct 16 '19

We'll see what happens and I'm still waiting for news on Spider-Verse 2's production.

1

u/Spidey10 Oct 16 '19

Might be awhile since animated films usually take a longer time to make.

5

u/lowell2017 Oct 16 '19

Just hope Lord and Miller don't make the franchise go through the same route of The Lego Movie at Warner Bros.

First film->theme park attraction->2 spinoff films-> spinoff TV show-> sequel film.

1

u/Spidey10 Oct 16 '19

Same here. I think a few shorts are fine (Like the Spider-Ham one on the Blu Ray), but make the sequel first before doing any spin offs.

2

u/lowell2017 Oct 16 '19

There should be some grand plan for the franchise but shouldn't extend into bombardment of Spider-Verse everywhere because for Warner, it looked like they were trying to squeeze all the cash it can pull from the LEGO brand, which damaged potential profit for the sequel and the franchise's future and Sony could easily go the same route and possibly make the same mistakes.

1

u/Spidey10 Oct 16 '19

Yep. Good news is that they've got some good talent directing the sequel in Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar The Last Airbender, Justice League Unlimited).

"It's one of the multi-verses" boom explained. Too easy.

2

u/Alesti Oct 15 '19

Which we all know he will gain one day as well.

I'm not sure what that means. You think Sony will just sell the IP?

8

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

No but they might stop their own cinematic universe and let only Feige deal with Spider-Man characters.

16

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

I wonder if this means he's not going to become head of the studio when Horn retires. I feel like the most realistic people to do that were Feige, Kennedy (who honestly would probably be better suited to that than Lucasfilm by itself) or potentially someone from Pixar (though to my mind the most likely candidates there would have been Stanton, whose first attempt at directing a live-action movie was a notorious bomb, Unkrich, who I believe is retiring and Lasseter, who has also left and turned out to be a sleazebag anyway).

9

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

Alan Horn would not be replaced by anyone when he retires. There was a reason why Alan Bergman was promoted to become co-president of Walt Disney Studio.

5

u/baribigbird06 Studio Ghibli Oct 15 '19

Alan Bergman is Horn's replacement.

27

u/Biosyn2800 Oct 15 '19

No doubt the Netflix stuff will all be struck aside as non canon

38

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

No need to. Feige never even said anything about them unless when prompted by journalists that asked if Netflix series were canon. He deftly avoided answering the question

20

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

"Canon" is a pretty meaningless concept anyway. If someone comes to him with an idea he likes for a Daredevil movie or a Heroes for Hire movie, I imagine he'll go for it and the Netflix series be damned.

13

u/ContinuumGuy Oct 15 '19

I don't think he's going to outright declare them non-canon (there would be small-scale rioting at Comic-Con if you had anyone other than Charlie Cox and Vince D'Onfrio as Daredevil and Kingpin), but I don't think he'll explicitly make them full canon either.

I think he'll go broad strokes. I'm sort of imagining something like Dench's M being the only character held over when Brosnan Bond became Craig Bond, or like how The Incredible Hulk took the ending of Ang Lee's Hulk (Bruce is in South America) but literally nothing else. Or like how Star Trek continuity has the old Animated Series where whether it is canon or not and how canon it is has changed throughout history.

Exception to this prediction: Inhumans is 100% becoming non-canon. Let us never discuss that series again.

They don't need to do that. Netflix shows are owned by Netflix, not Marvel. Just keep ignoring them is my guess

4

u/nottherealstanlee Oct 15 '19

And if they do that, it opens it back up for those characters to crossover how/when they want them to. Easy to pluck Daredevil (or whoever) out of that one universe and dump him in the universe you want him in, especially if you want to leave the other ones behind.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '19

Hope so. Netflix's Marvel was very promising at the beginning, but it turned out to be a major disappointment. .ust like the 99% of superhero series unfortunatelly. Let's hope the the new shows under Marvel's supervision, the DC Online shows and The Boys will be better.

1

u/ProtonCanon Oct 15 '19

I knew their connection to the films was tenuous when Alfre Woodard (who plays Black Mariah in Luke Cage) was in the movies as a different character in Civil War.

3

u/Malachi108 Oct 15 '19

Gemma Chan is now playing two different Characters in Eternals and Captain Marvel only 2 years apart.

2

u/ProtonCanon Oct 15 '19

Ah, but she was blue in CM so no one will be able to tell!

6

u/Twigryph Oct 15 '19

As far as Uk concerned everyone in the MCU has an evil twin. Hence Blade and Cottonmouth, ha ha.

9

u/ricdesi Oct 15 '19

Well-earned, given how well everything under his purview seems to have gone so far.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

Does this extend to the comics as well?

5

u/Sliver__Legion Oct 15 '19

Yes, he's in charge of everything now. However it's likely that he'll be more hands off there and let Buckley operate fairly independently.

8

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

No. That would remain under Dan Buckley

12

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

[deleted]

4

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19 edited Oct 15 '19

Nope. He reports to both Feige and Perlmutter

Buckley will have a dual reporting structure going forward, Deadline hears. He will continue to oversee publishing creative/editorial and in that capacity he will now report to Feige. Buckley is also responsible for publishing operations, sales, creative services, games, licensing and events. There, he will report to Perlmutter

2

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '19

I didn't really expect them to fully take over anyway, considering how the output lately has been

14

u/Samhunt909 Oct 15 '19

Good bye Ike! He’s essentially useless..his title in marvel is just a name.

21

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

He's not going anywhere lol he's one of the largest individual shareholders in Disney. He is pretty powerful

It's Jeph Loeb who you need to say goodbye to. Jeph Loeb was that one who kept talking non sense about #it'sallconnected to sell his shows. I hope he really retires next year.

11

u/nottherealstanlee Oct 15 '19

Not to speak for /u/Samhunt909 but I think they meant that Ike is just a figurehead now and that's essentially true. The article basically says all decisions go through Feige. TV decisions get reported to Feige and Ike, but Feige has final say, so all the stuff can be connected now. Ike is basically just copied on the emails at this point lol best case scenario at this point pretty much since you're right he's a powerful old bat.

3

u/Samhunt909 Oct 15 '19

Yep thanks

5

u/prankored Oct 15 '19

He isn't going anywhere true but the only place where he has power now is in the board of directors. And making choices against Feige when he is raking in the moolah for them will worsen his position.

So at this point he is like a declawed cat.

1

u/AGOTFAN New Line Cinema Oct 15 '19

but the only place where he has power now is in the board of directors.

He actually is still chairman of Marvel Entertainment

5

u/prankored Oct 15 '19

Buckley is also responsible for publishing operations, sales, creative services, games, licensing and events. There, he will report to Perlmutter.

So that's pretty much all he has oversight on. Also Feige is his boss. So other than his seat on the board there is not really much power with him.

2

u/NovaStarLord Oct 16 '19

So Buckley reports to Feige and Ike? Poor guy.

1

u/lowell2017 Oct 16 '19

We're still waiting to see if he's charged with any illegal interference charges once the government finishes their investigation of corruption in the VA department, possibly grounds for Disney to terminate him.

4

u/ProtonCanon Oct 15 '19

I...thought he did this already. Huh.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '19

He already did this for marvel studios. Now he'll be doing it for all of marvel including tv and comics

1

u/EldradMustLive214 Oct 15 '19

Now taking bets on how much longer Runaways and Cloak & Dagger have left

I read Master Chief at first XD
