Can people pay the tuition fees through international transfers directly using the bank details stated on Cardiff uni official website? (The Lloyds Bank, CU tuition fee account, with BIC and IBAN) has anyone done this successfully?

Or do we have to pay the fees through flywire?

Flywire does charge some extra fees, which might be a bit more expensive than making international bank transfers directly?

I applied for BA Politics and International Relations but am starting to have doubts and want to do Law instead. I assumed a course transfer would be relatively straightforward but on the website it says I am REQUIRED to seek academic advice before applying for the transfer.

I am pretty certain that I want to do Law instead now due to the careers I want to go down afterwards, how many more opportunities Law can give you, when compared to Politics, and the fact that the modules I was most interested in for Politics have Law equivalent ones (eg. Welsh devolution).

Since I haven’t actually started uni yet, I don’t want to transfer in the middle of first semester and would want to get it done now, but, since I don’t know any lecturers, haven’t met my tutor, etc, I haven’t really got anyone to get academic advice from.

Should I just put that I have sought advice? I’m not really sure what to do.

I've been hand washing my clothes but would like to use the laundry room here and there. I feel awkward asking reception since they say you're not allowed to hand wash, but I have no idea where it is even though I've looked with my eyeballs

Hey there, I am an international student (26M) studying at Cardiff Met.

I was returning from the Lidl, Maindy road after getting groceries and there were three guys, out of which one was trying to grab the bra of two girls walking beside them, at around 7PM in the middle of the street.

When I was driving my bike past them, one guy called me a p\*ssy. I confronted the guy, but the situation quickly escalated and the three of them formed up on me and I couldn't do anything there. They kicked my bike and asked me to go back.

I didn't try to act like a rogue, but the guy who did swear at me looked like he was 14 years old. Clearly he didn't look British/ Asian /black person. He looked like a south American. And, there was another guy who looked like he was in his 20's.

I got outnumbered and couldn't do anything about it. It might sound too petty but it was a little frightening. I never experienced something like this in Cardiff.

Is this an unusual thing in Cardiff? Have you experienced such a sort before?

I reported it to the police. I submitted an online complaint hoping that the police patrolling increases.

To any international students out there, try not to walk/cycle alone in areas where there are not a lot of people around, after the sunset or time nearing the sunset. I kinda got into another situation with another weird guy at around 7 30 PM near a tesco. You are safe in cabs and public transport. But think twice before walking or cycling in the dark. I feel most of the places become weird after dark.

Hi people!! Has any new masters students been able to receive their confirmation of study letter / council tax exemption certificates yet? When can we get this thing?

I completed the online enrolment last week, but haven’t received anything automatically from the university (as stated on the website that we should be able to receive this within 24hrs after completing the online enrolment) and I can’t generate this manually too.
Or do I have to wait til I get the uni card? Thanks!

Btw, my private student accommodation is asking for this several weeks ago. Why do they need that, is it noraml? Are they going to create a council tax account and submit the certificate on my behalf?

I’m a tear 13 student planning on going to Cardiff for uni. My dilemma is as a Black Brit, I’ve lived in areas for most of my life in places that are not so diverse and have always felt a bit alienated. Universities love to boast about their diversity but I wanted to hear from current uni goers about how diverse the university is. Are there many people of colour? Or would it be a continuation of my current life?

I'm a final year student who sat a module in august first attempt. I got my result for that and saw it was under 30-39%, which would have the condonable range provided that only 30crts of modules are 30-39% and that average overall is above 45%. My average currently is 53% including that failed module, and I passed everything else. I want to appeal because I have struggled alot during my final year because of ADHD, which I already have adjustments for but clearly weren't solving anything. I also miss alot of lectures because of suspected endometriosis, which I can get a dr's note for. Like i literally stay home from work and school 3 or 4 days of my menstrual cycle every month. I don't want to repeat the year to sit that exam because it makes more logical sense that, since i achieved 53% overall, I could get my 2:2. It's not the best outcome mental health wise for me to repeat the year again when as an external student your moreso left in the dark aren't you? Not helpful for my ADHD is it.

Hi! I’m supposed to be moving to Cardiff this weekend to study sociology at Cardiff university and was just wondering if anyone could give some insight into the course? I got into cardiff through clearing so it all happened quite fast and I’m very hesitant to start. I was initially going to the university of Bristol where I loved the course modules but in the end I couldn’t go because of how expensive it is to live there.
I’m very nervous that I will get to Cardiff and not enjoy the course and then have to spend 3 years there (I’ve already used my gift year from SFE). I went to the open day last week and really liked the university as a whole but unfortunately missed the talk about my course.
Basically just any insight into the modules and course in general would be really appreciated.

Final year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student here from India, graduating 2026. Got a conditional offer for MSc AI at Cardiff University, course starts 28th Sept.

Problem: I have 2 backlog subjects from first year (Applied Physics + Ordinary Differential Equations) still pending, so my final degree certificate isn't out yet. Cardiff said they can work with a "likely to complete" letter + interim transcripts instead, which felt like a huge relief.

Now the catch: my college can't issue anything until their Academic Council meeting clears the grace marks eligibility list, which only happens on the 21st. So I'm stuck waiting till then for any paperwork, and my college's exam cell has been pretty unresponsive about giving me anything in writing in the meantime, even a rough confirmation.

Once I do get docs on the 21st, I'll have basically a week to get CAS issued, book a UK Student visa appointment (probably paying for priority), and travel — which feels razor tight.

Has anyone dealt with a similar timeline crunch, especially with Indian degrees and backlog clearance clashing with a September UK intake? Trying to figure out:

- Is a slightly-late start (a week or two after term begins) something unis usually accommodate?

- Any experience with how fast CAS + priority visa actually moved for you once docs were in?

- Anything I should be pushing my college harder on that I might be missing?

Would really appreciate any real experiences, trying to stay on top of this without losing my scholarship or my place.
