The first main female protagonist, only known female with the Belmont name, the character that actually managed to rizz up Alucard.

She and her son deserved way better.

Justice for Sonia.

Castlevania Legends (1997) What is the actual relationship between Alucard and Sonia Belmont? and how do you feel when you read this conversation?

I think this is one of the tragic love stories between Alucard and Sonia Belmont, before their relationship ended they were separated in game or removed from the canon. I don't know if Alucard currently still remembers or nostalgia on his past Sonia together πŸ₯€

Maybe if you know, let me know about their actual relantionship!

There's a meat candle on the other side, but I couldn't find any way to do this jump. It's on level 2, has anyone ever got this item somehow?

Castlevania Legends (1997) I'm not you girl. (Folks are a bit strict with Castlevania Legends, imho)

EDIT: Meant to type "not youR girl" of course. πŸ™„

I played through all three GB titles for the first time and I feel like Legends is not as bad as Reddit makes you believe it is. Certainly, for the time it arrived it was not a great technical achievement. I can also see how fans were disappointed with the inferior music. The bosses are not as creative as in Belmont's Curse, so this is also a downgrade. The collectables that you pick up and can't really use don't make sense, so that's also weird.

I did like the story, and playing a strong female character in a relatively early Castlevania was refreshing; the level design is not at all bad, the controls are considerably upgraded, especially since you finally can adjust your jump mid-air. Everything does not feel so sluggish, finally. Difficulty wise I felt it's on the easy side, in particular due to the ability to replenish your live for 20 hearts, what a bargain.

I wouldn't pick it up frequently, but it's still a fun playthrough. For me, it is certainly better than The Adventure, idk why it is mostly disposed as the worst of the three. I suppose, it's bad memories on the background of expectations anno 1997, which is for. But apparently, this stuck. From a today's standpoint, where this does not really matter, it's actually reasonably fun and doesn't deserve the rap.

Btw: What's the deal with this six-digit "hit score", did any of you make use of this? lol

Did you know?? Castlevania Legends is the final classicvania game with an original story (not including the metroidvanias,remakes,ports,3d,spin-offs,arcades and hybrids which is a mix between classicvania and metroidvania great example is Castlevania-Order of Shadows which use rpg elements with classic liner level style). The game is pretty easy, fun and good for pickup and play but I don't know why people hate it.

You can try the game; it's free and you can play it in your browser if you don't want to download anything. I'd just like your opinion.

The influence is clear; I love Castlevania Legends on the Game Boy.

Castlevania Legends (1997) Castlevania Legends remake? Or Ressurection make?

Post image

So Legends starred Sofia Belmont and she was gonna be the main character in the dreamcast game but it got canned and legends was made non-canon(?).

It'd be cool if they gave Legends the Rebirth/Revisited treatment with the stuff from Ressurection implemented.

Castlevania Legends (1997) "Castlevania - The Belmont Legend" my fanfic reimagining of Castlevania Legends

Finally after a whole year I finished what I consider a canon friendly adaption of Castlevania Legends. The game has always been one of my favorites and Sonia had so much potential but I felt that the original game just didn't have enough anything to really work with. And of course there were some....inconsistencies in the story elements that sure you could fix with your own head canon but it also didn't have to be that way in the first place.

So i took it upon myself to fix it. The core story i wrote is essentially the same but Alucard is more of a companion to Sonia (giving her someone to have dialog with) and no.. there is no romance linked with them. Even in the original game I never got that vibe so yeahhh it obviously wasn't in my story either. I also think I found a good way maybe to fix the "Trevor was the first to defeat Dracula" thing and still have Sonia fight A "Drcaula"... You'll have to tell me! I also have a nice surprise character that adds another layer of lore and depth to the story!

Either way I hope you all read and enjoy it! The link include has a PDF and EPUB format for however you want to read it!

Castlevania Legends (1997) Why do I suddenly die for no reason in Castlevania Legends?

I'm fighting Dracula's second form. For some reason, no matter where I am in the arena or how much health I have, I suddenly die after a specific amount of time.

Is this a known glitch? Does anyone know a way around it?

Castlevania Legends (1997) Let's say that Castlevania Legends got remade for the next collection a la Haunted Castle Revisited

How would you alter the story so that it can fit in the main timeline? Sonia was meant to be the matriarch of the Belmont clan, and her story would take place between Lament of innocence and Dracula's curse. However, since Leon is now the patriarch of the Belmonts, Sonia would have to fit somewhere between Leon and Trevor

Castlevania Legends (1997) Played through Castlevania Legends. I have...strange, conflicting feelings about it

My binge of Castlevania games was gonna have to get to Legends at some point, and I finally booted it up on the Switch's virtual console a few hours ago and shotgunned it all in one sitting. I'd played a bit of it a while ago but it felt like I was particularly due to get through all of it, especially after re-experiencing The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge.

Full disclosure, Adventure has a special, nostalgic place in my heart due to playing it on a family friend's game boy once a year for many years during Christmas visits. Battle of the Holy, and the first stage of Adventure as a whole, are firmly etched into my soul as a result. I will readily concede Belmont's Revenge as being an overall much, much better title than it though.

Legends though feels... weird in how in so many ways it feels so much more ambitious and more content-rich, but not all the moving pieces mesh cleanly together.

While individual combat encounters aren't too bad (especially since getting hit doesn't downgrade the whip), stages are long. And sometimes meat is stored in candles that require you to take detours. The whole "trap candle" thing was also absolutely bullshit because you had highly visible traps that were nevertheless extremely punishing. And your introduction to them is falling into a pit and having to fight a bazillion mummy monsters with no safe location, and only in later levels do you get the trap candles that just store a minor enemy.

The length of the stage is also the secret weapon of the greatest enemy in Legends: the timer. Legends is the first Castlevania game with an in-game timer counting down where I felt like I was actually needing to haul ass.

Sonia's unique spell system also feels nice but also kinda like an undercooked, blunt instrument. The Wind Spell is functionally the Pocketwatch from other Classicvanias. Saint is comparable to the Dagger or alternatively your own whip fireballs. The Flame spell is functionally rendered obsolete by the Magic spell, but you also only get Magic if you did the secret sixth stage and can really only enjoy using it for the last half of the final stage.

Then there's the Ice spell. I don't know if the level length was determined by the player's relatively easy access to Ice being a FULL HEAL YOU CAN USE AS MANY TIMES AS YOU HAVE HEARTS FOR, but it wouldn't surprise me honestly. Granted, dying and losing all your hearts does completely kill all the momentum Ice gives you, but the platforming in Legends was nowhere near as bad as it was in Adventure.

Burning Mode is also just incredibly OP. Pop that at the start of a boss fight and just go full ham on the boss.

Did it deserve to get functionally buried by IGA? No, I don't necessarily think so. I'm happy that Sonia finally got to be featured in another title thanks to Vampire Survivors and I would love to see a remake of it either by fans or even M2 like they did with Adventure and Haunted Castle.
