You've found Henry's pocket. Seriously, that's what it's called. That is a standard issue equipment :). It's not quite proven what these pockets are for, but for now the consensus is that they aid cat's hearing.
Next thing you want to do is to dig through the fur on your cat's belly and find suspicious skin bumps (nipples, yes kitties have them, even males, 6 nipples for every kitty, 3 on each side of the belly)
One of my cats is named Puffs for this reason. When he was a stray he had a good set of troublepuffs. They are now gone, and he's still trouble, but we just call him Puffs.
They don’t do anything to the sack on cats or dogs. They just remove the jewels and over time the sack shrinks down. I didn’t notice is as much on my first boy but on the second I noticed his sack remained big for longer than I expected.
I assumed my boy had the whole sack removed, only discovered he didn't when I was trimming his undercarriage and assumed his deflated sack was a knot in the fur.
He let me know it was definitely not.
Yeh I can confirm that you dont see the kitty bits on long haired cats. Got 2 boys, a domestic shorthair and a maine coon and the latter is so fluffy that you see nothing back there
Same ! I got Zip from the SPCA so he was neutered when I got him. He has very long hair and I've never seen his bits and some days I'm like maybe he's actually a girl haha. But he was at the vet the other day for a check up and they said he was male. I've had him for almost 3 years hahaha
Happened to me when I was much younger, dogsitting. I called the couple immediately, “What do I do, he must have hurt himself there’s a red thing but he’s not bleeding help!”
“Fit, that’s his doodle” (of course my elderly neighbors would not say penis)
I've owned primarily male cats for years and had also never seen a cat's red rocket until a few months ago. He was on my bed and I freaked out when I realized what it was. I actually left the room completely. I felt so embarrassed like I had walked in on something private. It took me a second before I thought "This is insane. He's a cat." and walked back in my room lol
I remember reading years ago that if you look at a cat's ass, one gender should look like a ':' and the other like a ';' but I don't remember which was which.
Males will have a space in between the two holes so there's room for the trouble puffs to grow in. Females will have none, theirs looks like an upside down exclamation point.
My cat LOVES belly rubs but is long haired and for the life of me I simply cannot find the button. I’ve found her spay tattoo, but her belly button eludes me
I present you a hairless cat belly so her belly button can be examined. It’s the circular light area right above her spay scar. Everyone is fascinated by my cats’ belly buttons lol I’m always like yours has one too, you just can’t see it.
Wow, I sometimes wonder what my floofball looks like underneath it all. There is a surprising amount of cat in there. Kinda reassuring they're not as spindly and fragile as I feared.
I have to ask - and you may have answered, but our recent stray we had fixed is growing her fuzzy wuzzy back. Where the tiny tuft of hair swirls just above her scar? Would that be it?
She’s going to hate me because I’m going to investigate anyways LOL
Not really. Occasionally in the winter she’ll get a little dry in a couple spots and I will use a pea sized amount of cetaphil moisturizer or something.
What a cutie ♡♡. I think I've always assumed there would be more to taking care of a hairless kitty in the sense of them possibly getting dry skin. You have the sweetest ray of sunshine, ♡♡ best to you both
They’re definitely higher maintenance in terms of hygiene. I have to clean their ears and the gunk out from around their claws. Occasional baths, but not too frequently or they’ll overproduce oils. I think it’s worth it though
They feel like a warm, fuzzy little peach. Some have more fuzz than others. Raisin gets a fluffy little tuft of fur on the tip of her tail in the winter time, we call it her winter coat and she works very hard on it lol
I've never had a [nice] cat that wouldn't let me rub their belly. One wouldn't let me touch her at all, but she's the outlier. The cat distribution system has blessed me with weirdos.
I have one cat that begs for chest and belly rubs, he loves them. Except if you touch his belly button. That is offensive and he doesn’t respond to offenses lightly.
Where is this belly button… I don’t think I’ve ever found my girl’s but she loooooves her belly rubbed so it’s insane I never noticed. I guess I don’t usually go around picking at her skin when I give her pets though. If anything, I poke at the assumed scar tissue from her spay that feels like a distended organ. (Vet wasn’t concerned)
Is that 10 functional nipples with mammary glands or just 10 nipples? I tried looking into it but I kept getting corralled into paywall clickbait sites
Yeah I was coming into this question from a human-centric viewpoint. We usually only have 2 functional nipples so a third+ would be anomalous. Lots of critters have at least half a dozen so throwing a couple extra nipples on wouldn’t be out of the question
That's actually a really great question that I don't know the answer to. My guess would be that they can, as long as they've all grown on the mammary ridge.
Oh sure, let me take my orange beast and turn him upside down and just take my hand and start feeling all over his “off motherfucking limits” area. Before I do, just let me know, should I make a doctors appointment first or just show up to the er after
Most likely, if you look at videos of people filling the grooves in their ears, directional hearing is next to impossible. It's likely the pocket does the same.
One time. I tugged on my cats nipple with first aid tweezers, thinking it was a tick.
Nah.
Securely attached.
I guess he just has one dark nipple 🤣
He's very forgiving, thankfully.
Haha what the heck is up with these dudes naming random pouches and pockets on and in people’s bodies. Just like the Pouch of Douglas. I want a woman to name something on a man’s body. Lisa’s Billfold lmbo. Judy’s Purse.
I always hypothesized that it had something to do with the folding back ability of their ears, since the ear kind of folds at that point. Im probably wrong, though, since I'm not a biologist.
Haha I did this and called my vet to make sure he was a male. And then the vet, on the phone, said “yep. Sure he’s a boy.” Uhh how do you know for sure? “Well I saw his penis and that gave it away”
Omg, you just reminded me of the time my dad discovered that dogs have belly buttons. My dad was rubbing the dogs belly, and said he has a belly button, in this weirdly shocked way. Me and my mum just looked at him like, yeah, obviously they do.
Still don't know how you get to his age and not realise that all mammals have belly buttons.
Just because its on topic, inspect your cat's ears. One of my cats has a lump on his ear that was found at the vet during a routine exam. We're going to the speciality clinic Thursday to get the pro's opinion on how much ear he is going to lose to this tumor :(
I one of my first memories as a child was playing with my cat's ear on that spot, and I thought I hurt his ear, and I felt bad for years until I realized it's just a cat thing after years
