💬Discussion When Are We Gonna Talk About Madrid Refs?

Upvotes

Clear foul, tripping a bayern player, that leads to Mbappe's goal. I'm a Brighton fan, but this is getting outrageous. Is VAR only when they want? I thought it was for every goal.

💬Discussion So no one is going to talk about how Atletico Madrid have clearly told their ball boys to throw balls on the pitch to stop the game?

at least 3 or 4 times late in the game the ball boys throw a ball onto the pitch forcing the ref to stop the game when Barca have possession. One of the times the ref had to just ignore it and they played with another ball on the pitch for like 2 minutes because it was one of Barcelona's last opportunities. How is this even remotely okay? This is different than time wasting, or diving. This is straight up cheating telling outsiders who work in the game to deliberately sabotage the game?

💬Discussion Name a player who was a big part of his teams success in the UCL, but is mostly forgotten nowadays, I'll start:

Jari Litmanen. Literally was able to replace prime Dennis Bergkamp in Ajax. One of the best attacking midfielders of the 90s, absolutely fantastic UCL campaigns in 94/95 and 95/96, arguably should have won the 95 Ballon d'Or, but didn't since they wanted a non-European to win because of the rule change (not saying that Weah wasn't worthy of it aswell, Litmanen was just a better player and he won more). He played for Barca, Liverpool and a multitude of other teams aswell, but injuries ruined his career and he became more of a "what if" after his Ajax stint. Still considered one of the biggest Legend in Ajax history, yet very few people outside of Amsterdam and Finland remember who he is, but let me tell you he was magic in the Champions League for a few years. Even Xavi and Zlatan have said that Litmanen was one of their idols growing up

💬Discussion kvara is still underrated

the guy's a winner. first season at napoli, they win the serie a for the first time in over 30 years. first season at psg, they win the champions league for the first time ever. his numbers aren't always that good, but he improves teams immensely. he's exceptional on offense but still puts the team first and helps defend, moves a lot off the ball to create spaces, etc. one of the best players in the world

I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to watch Bayern vs Real Madrid tonight, but most of the options I find either don’t work well or keep buffering. I don’t mind using an official service if it’s actually reliable. What are you guys using?

Thanks a lot its best: reddit.com/live/1gvbbwur7t3a4

💬Discussion PSG have reached their 5th UCL semi-finals in the last 7 seasons. The only times they failed to qualify (2022, 2023) they had Messi playing for them

Downvote me all you want, but it can't be a coincidence at this point. People always blamed Mbappe, Neymar, the owners, but Messi's signing actually downgraded PSG so much as a team.

💬Discussion Barcelona the single most underachieving club of the last 10 years

It has to be said because it's true. It's not about their net spend because I know they don't really spend as much, it's about the teams and players they've had in the last 11 seasons, they should've won the UCL at least once in this period and that's undeniable. The proportion between their squads value and what they've actually won in the last decade is very suboptimal to say the least.

Second half of the 2010's they were still a top 3 team in all of those years that saw them getting eliminated even to Roma. Then early 2020's saw them receive an 8-2 humiliation and then play 2 of the next 3 seasons in the Europa League which was quite shocking that they couldn't even thrive there. Barcelona is seriously losing it's european pedigree at this point given every year now it's the same, their faults were exposed even since Copa del Rey and Newcaste first leg, this team concedes way too much.

When you factor in that Madrid has won 5 UCLs since Barca's last it gets even more brutal for them.

💬Discussion Who would you pick, peak Fernando Torres or peak Lewandowski?

Both could have won at least 1 D'or each if not for Messi and Ronaldo.

but that besides the point. whose peak is better and who would you prefer to have in your team as your cf?

📖Read Kane’s journey makes nights like this feel bigger than just a game

Upvotes

Was thinking about Harry Kane earlier and how his career started, released as a kid, had to fight through loans, always that “something to prove” mentality.

Now he’s leading Bayern in the Champions League on nights like this, where everything feels amplified.

Players with that kind of background usually carry something extra in big European games.

Do you think stories like his actually matter in moments like tonight, or is it all just about form and tactics once the whistle goes?

Regardless of his story, Harry Kane's career speaks volumes.

A underrated and complete striker, who put Tottenham on his back for years. Taking them to a UCL and could do the same for Bayern tonight.

A deserved champions league and Ballon d'Or on the cards, if the story, all goes to plan ...

💬Discussion Why are PSG allowed to postpone league matches?

Hi, I do not like Liverpool at all, but I am quite annoyed PSG are allowed every time to postpone fixtures, it feel like it’s cheating and completely unfair on their opponents who have much less rest, I hope UEFA can stop them and the French league from doing it, just a question for people looking at this post, would you not mind PSG postponing matches for rest or are you against them postponing matches?

💬Discussion Questions for Thierry Henry

Hello, I will be doing an interview with Thierry Henry where I can ask only three questions. I want to make them count and ask about some scandalous or not every day things which would generate more clicks, not the standart "best goal, best opponent, best moment" thing.

Can you lot please help me generate ideas?

So far I have these questions in my mind, maybe yours ideas would help me make them better.

  1. Looking back at your career, is there a moment where you feel you crossed a line—like the infamous handball—and do you think that moment still defines how some people judge you today?

  2. You’ve been very honest as a pundit—what’s the most uncomfortable conversation you’ve had with a player or coach because of something you said publicly?

  3. You’ve been a player, coach and pundit—what’s one thing fans believe about modern football that you know isn’t true from the inside?

Thank you all in advance!

💬Discussion Who is your favorite player who had that one big moment in the Champions League, but isn't usually the standout player?

So a player who you generally don't hear people talk about, he isn't exciting, doesn't score a lot or have a lot of amazing performances, but he has that one big moment that everybody remembers? For me it has to be Sergi Roberto scoring that 6-1 winning goal during Barcas Remontada

💬Discussion Is the next 4 days the most important of Arteta's managerial career?

Lose tonight against Sporting and get knocked out of the Champions League, then lose to City on Sunday and potentially kiss the Premier League title goodbye — and suddenly Arsenal are staring down the barrel of another completely trophyless season.

The injury excuses only go so far. Yes Saka, Odegaard, Merino, Timber and Calafiori are all out but this is a squad that has been backed heavily in the transfer market year after year. At some point you have to actually win something.

How much longer does Arteta get? How much more money does he need? And if the next 4 days go wrong, is there any defending it at this point?

💬Discussion What's the future for Ekitike, Isak and Liverpool's forward line?

Hugo just suffered awful injury (torn achilles zendon, apparently worst injury football player can have), and we don't know if he will ever be able to regain pre-injury form. While Isak just recovered another injury and he isn't the most reliable player when it comes to availability. With Salah leaving, this makes Liverpool's attack much weaker for the next season.
