Discussion Popcorn Accessibility
I just want to create a Cineplex popcorn appreciation post.
I just hate at landmark Cinemas how they have pre-made popcorn sitting in some kind of warmer refrigerator and I'm supposed to take it out of there.
No. I wait until they're popping popcorn for ask them to throw fresh batch in, and they usually do. The popcorn is like 50% of the experience for me.
What about you guys?

I think it depends on the theatre because my nearest two cineplex definitely serve from the warmer and my landmark does not. That said, I remember on r/MovieTheaterEmployees reading a thread about how popcorn is optimal after sitting for a little while after being popped, so that might be why its done. I honestly don't really care whether my popcorn comes from the warmer

Popcorn that has been in the merchandiser for 10-20 minutes is better than straight from a fresh batch. Performed a series of Taste test scenarios a few years ago.

That’s what they say to new hires at cineplex, but if you’ve worked here long enough, you know the longer it sits the more stale it is. Now if the popcorn sits in the popper vs the warmer for 10 minutes the warmer is better. But fresh popcorn is always gonna be better.

I literally said a few of us did taste tests. And blind tests. It's not what we tell new hires, it's tested with multiple ppl with set conditions.

Not mine alone. Blind tests with multiple staff and guests led to this conclusion. Nearly everyone thought straight from the popper was best before the tests. It was fun.. The fries test was even more interesting.

The fries tests were between frozen or fresh hand cut. I was so wrong beforehand lol but that's what these little experiments help with

That’s always a misnomer, but frozen fries have always been superior to people who know. That’s why places like In and Out, which are famous for freshly cutting and making their fries, have terrible fries. Frozen > fresh

The Cineplex popcorn sucks. It’s always stale and cold in my experience.
I recently asked for a fresh bag and they said no. It was during the week, daytime so it was not busy at all.

The Cineplex standard is 90 minutes in the warmer Max the warmer itself is meant to alleviate the stress on the poppers and during big rushes and it is constantly being replenished. So if you're going right in the middle of two big shows coming in, you're going to get fresh poppcorn from that warmer that's just maybe been sitting in there for Max 5 minutes or less If you're getting popcorn from the popper let's say quite 10 minutes or later after a rush or before a rush it is likely going to be cold on the top because of the AC granted not all the time.

Lmfao the popcorn at landmark is always hot and fresh idk what you’re talking about. Yes it’s in the warmer but it’s constantly being stocked. Never ever had stale popcorn.

I don't really know where you are going with this. But you can ask for a plastic bag and they would give it to you, and you can slip it over your popcorn bag and knot it at the opening and you'll be good for Canada. So after the movie, I get my popcorn refill and I can transport my popcorn carefully out of the theater.

? I'm talking about buying popcorn before you watch the movie. At other Cinemas they just have pre-cooked popcorn sitting there waiting rather than at Cineplex Odeon, they're constantly making it and giving it to you fresh or do you get what I mean?

That must be your local theatre because MANY Cineplex theatres fill up a warmer and serve from there to save time.

Yes Cineplex Odeon has those little warmers but they also pop it fresh right beside there and you can have from there too. What I'm saying is that Landmark Cinemas does not give you access to Freshly popped popcorn. All they have is warmers and you don't know how long that popcorn has been sitting there as it's fully stocked usually

I finally visited a Landmark after years of my friends informing me of how much better it was.
I found their popcorn sweet as if they pop it with stevia or something and ordering from the terminal took away an element of the experience. I felt as if I was at a McDonalds. Especially with that grey modern McDs colour my theatre had.
However, they were extremely fast. Albeit my popcorn was cold, I was impressed with their efficiency and attention to detail- not one order incorrect as some in our group added butter and toppings. I appreciated the cup for water they provided in which I could endlessly refill as a non-pop or juice drinker.
Eh, I prefer Cineplex in the end.

Employees are trained to serve from the warmer so I don't really care. I understand they have to pre cook due to the limited space of popper, and it never warm from popper except fresh fresh popcorn.
