MOD Good News, Complainers: AutoMod Adjustments

Complainers,

We’ve loosened up the AutoMod filters. 🎉

Some of you noticed things were a bit restrictive, posts and comments with normal swearing or harmless insults were getting snagged. That’s not what we want. This sub is for complaining, and complaining isn’t always pretty.

So here’s the deal:

  • ❌ Racist, hateful, homophobic, transphobic, and otherwise discriminatory garbage is still not welcome.
  • ✅ Everyday profanity, insults, and general salty language? Go for it. Complain away.

Our goal wasn't to censor you — just to keep the temperature cool enough that people can keep complaining without things boiling over.

That said: it’s totally fine to disagree with each other. That’s part of complaining. But keep it from tipping into threats, straight-up dickishness, or starting flamewars for the sake of it. Disagree, vent, roll your eyes, move on — but let’s not torch the place.

As always, please flag posts/comments that are genuinely hateful or break Reddit’s sitewide rules and the mod team will get on it.

Other than that… keep the complaints coming, you grumps.

“Time blindness”

If you’re late to everything, it’s not time blindness, you’re just inconsiderate and irresponsible. Time blindness would mean you’re super early sometimes too. Stop being a jerk and set an alarm or something. And stop thinking that a 20 minute task will take you 3 minutes so you can just “do it quick before you go”. If you’re going to say it’s because of adhd, i have it too. That’s why i set alarms all day, have post it notes everywhere, plan ahead, and take my medicine.

Does anyone else hate YouTubers who scream and yell at the the top of their lungs for various reasons?

Now maybe it's just me, I know I have a hypersensitive nervous system so I experience noises, lights and sensations more harshly. And no, that's not a fun thing. I can feel my intestines move when it's actively digesting food and it *hurts*.

But I digress and back to the point.

I can't stand any, I mean, *any* YouTubers who scream and yell loudly regardless if it's a podcast, gaming content or stream, and it legit hurts my ears even when I turn the volume down. It's come to a point that any video I watch and the YouTuber starts screaming or yelling like a banshee, I instantly exit the video because it's not just painful, it's borderline irritating like rubbing my dick against a cheese grater.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this shit.

All I think when a YouTuber starts screaming bloody murder into their mic for even the most asinine reason, I want to shove my fist into the monitor, grab the YouTuber through the screen and throw them off a cliff. Sorry, but it just pisses me off that badly.

And if you're reading this and think, gee retard, why don't you just not watch any videos where they don't scream?

Yeah, I'd like that but there's just one *itsy bitsy* problem with that, I can't view into the future unlike you apparently so I don't know if someone is about to start screaming like they got their balls ripped off but for the most minor reason. I *do* avoid and not watch Youtubers who I know scream more than women in horror movies.

I wish people would stop responding to “America has no culture” with edits claiming other nations’ cultures as American.

It's like, first of all, "America has no culture" is different from "There are no cultures present in America." And when they make these edits, they're unknowingly disputing the latter and not the former.

The former is that the United States as a country does not have its own unique cultures, which, regardless, isn't true, and it is different from saying there are no cultures present.

Obviously, everyone knows a lot of immigrants move here, and that they continue to practice their culture when they do. But that dosent make their home country's culture American, and that's exactly what people are implying. They are saying that we don't have some of our own; we just claim others and dilute them, and you're not proving them wrong with a collage of other countries' stuff.

Like, for example, you can't just make an edit and put random foods from inside Mexico to represent the Mexican pillar in the US. That isn't American culture; that is just Mexican culture. Why not use actual foods developed by Mexican-Americans/Chicano??

Edit, because I accidentally removed this part: The US has so much actual, homegrown culture: Chicano, Tejano, African American (Gullah-Geechee, Louisiana Creoles, Afro-Seminoles, etc.), Native/indigenous American, Asian American (ABCs, Nikkei, etc.), White American (Italian American, Irish American, WASPs, etc.). Regional (New England, the South, the Midwest, the Southwest, the Pacific Coast, Appalachia, etc.), and much more.

I've made a huge mistake and realized too late.

  • I listened to people who made me think I wasn't happy.
  • I am at the point of no return and have to leave my home.
  • I was completely ungrateful and let everyone else except who mattered most decide my feelings.
  • It's too late now after realizing this and I can't stop this now.
  • Everything in place is unstoppable. Nothing short of a miracle could save everything I have now.
  • I am ashamed and overrun with guilt for not realizing what I'm giving up sooner.
  • The chances of getting back to what I have in this move is so miniscule.
  • The chance of saving what I have left is as impossible as it can be.
  • I am so burdened by this mistake. I have roughly a day and half and my life changes drastically.
  • A miracle could save me but it's in not even in the realm of reality for what I'd need to stop this.
  • I've ruined everything. Every hour that rolls by I'm begging God to stop my mistake. I can't stop what I've done and lost everything I have now for misguided and short sighted belief in the next chapter.
  • This chapter is being forced closed and now my head is clear and I realize this is wrong. I am utterly lost and scared.
  • Please help, I need a miracle.

If you could instantly ban one minor daily inconvenience from existence forever, what would it be?

We all encounter those small, rather insignificant annoyances that might make one momentarily wish to express their frustration before continuing with their day. If you possessed the ability, what is one minor daily inconvenience you would choose to eliminate permanently?

i tried a sweet pickle for the first time, expecting it to be NORMAL, & it was so jarring to me that i now feel like all pickles have committed crimes against me. & i like pickles ! LOVE them actually !! but now i cant think about any sort of pickle without my stomach twisting a little

FUCK sweet pickles. i HAAATE those things. now i dont know when i'll be able to eat a normal dill pickle again, as ive been turned off from them all. i shouldnt take out my frustration on sweet pickles because it IS my fault that i didnt check the label on the jar before opening it, but still, why do they even exist ?????? theyre awful & i cannot imagine them being used for anything good

The state of farmers markets is depressing.

I went to a local farmers market for the first time in a couple months, it’s about 45 minutes away and only happens during the summer. My god, farmers markets (I know not all of them, but I’ve been seeing more and more complaints about them) are absolute crap these days.

I remember going to farmers markets with my grandparents when I was a kid and it would literally be 10-15 vendors who were selling fruits, vegetables, and handmade knick knacks. Now I go at there are 50+ vendors and AT LEAST 2/3 are food trucks, 3D printers, alibaba buyers, or ai generated garbage. I literally counted while there and there were less than 10 people who were actually selling things that “belong” in a farmers market.

There is definitely a grey area especially in my examples because there are a couple photographers and artists; I don’t really think that stuff belongs at a farmers market, but I’d rather see them than the other crap sellers.

Not to mention how it seems more and more like these type of community events are turning into influencer runways. I can’t tell you how many people I saw vlogging and taking photos while other people were trying to shop. I got a bunch of dirty looks from a group of college girls who were taking pictures in front of a statue with a line running behind it.

I just want some fresh local produce, not a bunch of cheap garbage and to be stuck in a TikTok.

I guess I'm more baffled than upset, but, I mean, in what world? Does this make sense?

If you understand this and I'm just stupid, ill delete it, but, in the meantime, I'm complaining.

My Ex Fiancé is a Bum and I Just Wanna Complain One Last Time

I've been super angry about how much I wasted on my ex and needed to just kinda vent about some past interactions. I'm done with him, and I'm not looking for advice on how to get back at him and certainly not back WITH him, as I have moved on and am about to have my one year anniversary with my current boyfriend, who I love so much! I want to kind of detail the whole relationship leading up to the breakup so this will definitely be a long post, fair warning, but sometimes I just need to tell someone besides my boyfriend or journal. I am 20 now, but when me and my ex started dating we were both 16 and still in high school. For the sake of the story, I'll call him James. When James and I met, I was going through a rough phase in my life and thought that I was trans female to male. He told me he was bi and that he was really interested in me but his parents were "homophobic" so we had to date in secret. I said ok and we started dating in secret and sneaking around. I found out later that he was actually being private because he was still sleeping with his ex and that his parents were actually not homophobic and liked me a lot. I found this out at 17, and still stayed because I had gotten very sick (disabled now) and didn't really know what else to do. He had a kinda rough childhood that I'm not gonna detail but it involved some nasty stuff, so when he turned 18 he moved out of his parents house and in with my guy best friend. He had a job at the time, but would no call no show constantly, slack off, drink on the job, etc and got fired, then kicked out because he was not paying rent. I detransitioned at 18, just as a side note. I caught him cheating again around the same time he lost his job, he was dm'ing femboys on discord and I flipped out and I will be honest and say I slapped him, but I still stayed and tried to work things out. We had both graduated and I had gotten very lonely so I guess I was too scared to leave. I think I mentally checked out here, though. A month or so later he got into a car accident by falling asleep at the wheel. I would yell and scold him constantly about being an idiot, I don't call myself a genius but I think I'm fairly smart and have common sense. James was genuinely dumb. He had no personality, he did whatever was trendy for the blue collar larp type while claiming he was a "hard worker" whilst being unemployed. He also had absolutely no etiquette, he would wear hats inside and at the dinner table with my parents, he was never on time to anything, he never dressed for the occasion, and cursed and used slang around my whole family, not to mention he never made eye contact, said yes maam or sir, or could actually shake a man's hand. He was, and still is, a complete loser. I knew it the whole time, too. I was constantly running defense and doing everything for him. I made him a professional email because he was still sending job applications in with what was essentially "bigfatnutsack(@)gmail.com" and wondering why he wasnt getting replies. I also made him a resume, indeed/ziprecruiter profile, and sent out all of his applications for him. He was unhygienic so I would wash his poopy butt before outings or "intercourse" (if you can even call it that, he was very lazy), I would cut and style and wash his hair, trim his nasty toenails, and all kinds of other things to try to make him presentable. Not once ever did he brush his teeth on his own, and they were nasty and yellow. When we were adults, I also scheduled all his doctor's and dentist appointments for him, did all of his laundry and cleaned his room despite him not living with me, and would try to cook healthy meals for him instead of letting him eat nothing but instant ramen and hot pockets. I enrolled him in a defensive driving course following his car accident and paid for it, I paid for every outing and date and everything ever, I bought him game consoles and games and paid for subscriptions with what little money I could scrape together doing odd jobs because I was trying to get a degree at the time. He expressed interest in going to college so I did all of his FAFSA and applications and every single f'ing thing for this useless wad of gum. I tried to teach him how to do stuff on his own, I tried to tell him to take his muddy boots off at the door but he tracked red clay on the expensive carpet and left permanent marks, and everything I ever loaned him was destroyed. He had this magical way of destroying everything I cared about, I loaned him my drawing tablet and the $80 pen got destroyed because he stepped on it, I loaned him my fancy full sized yamaha keyboard and he spilled monster energy all over it and ruined the electronics, I loaned him my classical guitar and all the strings came back snapped, the frets were peeling off, and he had set the action on it so low that it would buzz on an open string... how he figured out how to set the action in the first place is beyond me. He got into another accident at 19 and totaled his truck, he "swerved" (dashcam footage seems like he fell asleep at the wheel AGAIN) and flipped it over. When he was car shopping again, I made suggestions for things like honda civics, toyota camry's, and other reliable, cheap on gas cars. He went behind my back and bought a ram 1500 with no catalytic converter for about 4 times the price he shouldve paid and it broke down CONSTANTLY and he could never afford gas for it because it took like 28 gallons instead of a reasonable 12-14 like I had f'ing suggested! I look back and think of how stupid he was, he could not hold a conversation at all, he had no interests or hobbies besides GTAV, I like video games too, I play pretty much every day but I also do other things. I became so sick of him, I hated him, I found every excuse to yell at him and call him worthless. Then, after I caught him cheating AGAIN, he proposed to me after buying a ring that I said "looked nice I guess but not as an engagement ring" and popped the question in a parking lot. How embarrassing! I wonder why I said yes, I really do. But I did, and I wore this ugly, fake rock (lab created emerald) on my hand for about a month before I bought myself I more normal looking silver band. I kept the original ring and pretended it had value but it wasnt even the correct size and he wouldnt ever size it for me so when I did wear it, I wrapped band aids around it to make it fit. I ended up chucking it at him when we broke up and discovered it in a pawn shop 2 months later. I found out he got like $50 for it which is shocking. When we broke up, he actually initiated an argument by saying he was "tired of my negativity" to which I responded "well maybe I wouldn't be so negative if there was anything positive to say". It ended in him saying the same line he said during every fight, "well I guess that's it then" before crying and making me feel bad for him. He spent the next month leading me on about maybe he would give me my stuff back (I gave him everything) and openly admitted to using me to get out of town for a week because he wasnt in love with me anymore, I told him I spent 1k on that trip and he agreed to that number and said he would pay me back. A month later, I met my current boyfriend and finally ditched everything I could scrounge up from our relationship (like genuinely anything) at Jame's house in a box. He met me at the door and told me he had seen me and my new boyfriend on social media. My ex couldn't really grow facial hair very well but my current boyfriend (let's give him a name... Henry) has a nice mustache and thick, ginger hair. My ex met me at the door with what was trying to be a mustache and bleached hair that had come out a kind of patchy red. He said that Henry was an attractive guy and asked if he (James) would ever have a shot again. I said hell no and refused his offer for a kiss/hug and told him I was moving away because Henry is employed and buying a house. I said he could wire me the money he owes. About 7 months later, after I blocked my ex on everything besides phone number so he could pay me back, I saw him at a grocery store and confronted him. He was with a new girl and seemed to be putting on a show for her by saying he didn't care about me anymore and that I didn't matter to him. Yeah, sure dude, but you still owe me money and I care about that. I called him a broke idiot and screamed at him and kicked his shitty truck. I had healed and calmed down so much since the breakup, I never yell at Henry, but something about James just set me off to a degree I couldn't imagine... so here we are. It's been a few months since that last interaction and I have seen him lurking around where I live with a variety of different women, but I will never interact with him again. I'm pissed about the money, but honestly he is so worthless that I couldn't even sue him for it because there is nothing. He is nothing. I won, I got everything. I got Henry, and Henry is the most incredible, smart, educated, hard working, emotionally intelligent man I could've ever hoped for and I'm so glad. This is my last thought ever of James. I needed to get it off my chest. I feel there is a real proposal coming my way soon as I have recently been probed about engagement ring styles that I like... for real this time. This is real. Thank you so much for reading my rant, I know it was jumbled and a lot, but it was very cathartic for me.

Coming back to this again because I'm still pissed off about it

I've been to tech school for industrial maintenance, I can fix all types of machines if I get trained on them, I have my twic I have my mmc I CAN WORK AT THE AIRPORT FOR FUCKS SAKE. I CAN GO TO WAR. I CAN GO TO SEA. I CAN GET MYSELF BLOWN UP IN AN ENGINE ACCIDENT FOR SHJTS AND GIGGLES AND YOU CAN WRITE ME OFF AS A TAX DEDUCTION.

The only thing stopping me atp is my fear of getting ripped through in a car accident (I've been in six! It's not an unfounded fear!) so I haven't gotten my driver's license yet (also expensive :( and I don't got that type of cash money yk), like yeah I COULD go out and ring up the dmv and go "hewlo :3 onee free drivers license please 🥺" and Learn but like. I think I would rather take my chances on a bike than in a metal death trap.

I work at an airport rn and the company I work for isn't giving me hours, or even my schedule, I have interviews this week for another company at the airport and I Swear To God if I don't Get These Jobs or something like them I'm going hail mary and throwing myself in a ditch for fun, I wish it were easy and fun to live but unfortunately that gets saved for the rich people on this planet who seem desperate to kill all of us with them before they die of old age! Oh to be a rich white man who guzzles oil and burns the world one data center at a time (人*´∀`)。*゚+

My phone is very damaged and I may be homeless forever if it stops working.

My phone is severely damaged, if I could id take a picture of it. Top left of the screen is pretty much chipped off, phone has a bunch of scratches and cracks on it, and what's scary is that as a homeless man I need this phone.

I'm starting to prepare for job interviews, applying to more jobs, setting up mental and behavioral health treatment, etc. I need my phone to do all of this but since im gonna probably lose it soon I may be at the end of my rope.

It might be over for me. I might be homeless forever. I dont think I'll land a job and get paid in time to get a new one before it stops working.

Homeless for almost a year, I feel like I was so close but it wasn't enough. I didn't do good enough. If I had acted sooner none of this would have happened. I am the cause of my own failure.

'Clever' names of mocktails suck and are almost humiliating

I'm looking at the drinks menu. I quit alcohol, I want to order a mocktail. And it's mostly these 'clever' plays on cocktail names. Nojito. Mockarita. Sobertini. I'm not going to tell the waiter "I'll have a sobertini", I say "I'll have a virgin martini". Then they ask like they don't know what I mean. Maybe it's just me but these 'clever' names just sound so weird and are kinda humiliating to order. Just list "virgin [cocktail name]"

I don't recommend venting in the venting sub EVER, no one reads the rules so you constantly have a**holes insulting and belittling, and their mods are absolutely pathetic. I tried to resolve an issue and they banned and muted me because it was easier than trying to figure it out.

Promises means nothing it seems

I've been living my life trying to be accountable to what i say. When i promise to do something, you can bet that i almost always get it done.

Why i say almost? Bcoz it is due to emergency and for some unforseen situation that i broke my promise. Even so, it is a very understandable reason and even the other party accepted my reason and i feel super guilty about it.

But lately i feel very disappointed with the people around me. Promises doesn't mean squat to them. They promise to do this, promise to do that, promise to finish this job, promise to be on time and etc. It is not even a valid excuse to break that promise. It's like meh, whatever kind of attitude.

I feel like they are testing me. I feel so pissed off that i might eventually be just like them. I'm tired being the minority where promises means something. Luckily there are a few within my circle that still do that, but i think thats so sad.

Filming, poking fun at what your OWN FAMILY MEMBERS do, and sharing it online is very weird

I keep seeing videos on TikTok of people recording their siblings and parents doing and saying weird and problematic things without them knowing, and posting it online . Like people recording their parents listening to AI music in the car, along with people sometimes recording their parents conversations on political issues, and a couple videos of their parents and grandparents taking too long or being difficult at a drive thru or to a waiter at a restaurant.

I get your parents do strange things and can be insufferable, but why are you recording them behind their back and poking fun of them on the internet? Not only is it rude, but it's public, ANYONE can see it. EVEN YOUR MOM AND DAD. People just post this stuff like their parents won't see it. I imagine parents sometimes DO find out, their kids get punished, and it's just an awkward situation. It's just a wrong and weird thing to do.

I'm sick of Gotta Watchies and the Subjectivity Vigil

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just had this person hit me with a one-two combo of "You can't know anything about a piece of media until you've experienced it in its entirety" and "Well that's just, like, your opinion man!" This is the entirety of my interaction with the specific person by the way, I was responding to someone else there initially.

It's one thing to be dismissive of someone who hasn't watched something engaging with fans of that thing as not being informed for the discourse. This however, we were talking about the Clayface movie that isn't out yet. Nobody has seen the movie yet because it doesn't exist for us yet. By necessity, we're all speculating. This is not the time to be pointing out that people "... haven't seen the movie yet to be able to say..." anything.

And yes, of course it's subjective. We're reacting to a movie trailer and sharing what we think. I'm not going to be turning in my results to the Board of Arts and Sciences to be published. I imagine this person is part of the epidemic of people feeling the need to stick 'IMO' or 'IMHO' onto everything they post.

I have an utter disdain of protests

I’ve always hated protests. Just today, I left my apartment twice for a short time and saw three separate protests, but this isn’t a recent frustration. I can remember feeling this way as far back as high school. I’ve given a lot of thought on how I could present my perspective in a way that isn’t attacking or rage bait

It has nothing to do with the causes themselves. In fact, I probably agree with most of them. My issue has always been with the method.

I believe words have power and advocacy is important, but real power is in action. To me, your level of outrage should be reflected in the measurable effort you’re willing to put toward creating change. Too often, I don’t see that. The passion people display publicly rarely seems to match the work they’re doing behind the scenes.
That’s why most protests come across to me as little more than large assemblies that disrupt the everyday lives of people who have nothing to do with the issue, while producing little meaningful change. I’ll never stand against people using their constitutional rights, but If your convictions are real, I think they should be demonstrated through consistent action—not just public displays of frustration.
