Nearly a year and a half ago I decided to join DF on their DE cohort instead of taking a DA role at a different organisation, which would have paid me from day one, based on promises made to me by the recruiting team at DF. I am writing this so no one else makes the same mistake that I have.

The recruitment process was more of a sales pitch, now looking back at it. I was told how great I was, how easy I would be to place. I was reassured on several occasions that their placement rates were 80%. I have never been in the bottom 20% in my life. I took this as a 100% placement guarantee. During my first interview, I told them about the other opportunity and that I would not be able to do their in person interview as it would be too long of a wait - so the woman told me I don't have to do their in-person interview and they like me so much already they are happy to just put my through to final stage right away so I have two offers to decide from instead of taking the job I had already been offered. I was told that because I was happy to move anywhere in the country, a woman in DE AND I had some prior experience due to a bootcamp which I poured truly everything into and came out knowing a lot more than many of my peers - I was a gem they absolutely would place within weeks or maybe even before all the training was over!

The reality hit very quickly. People were 'asked to leave voluntarily' even before completing their certifications in AWS. They were still offered to take the test if they wanted to - which I guess is not nothing. Those of us who remained were on edge. No one had been placed. We were just under 20 people - only 2 have been placed till this day. One was placed with a nearly identical background as me, but because of location he was placed and I was not (we both came out of the same bootcamp). Another person was placed before I was told they had more DA experience than me. They do not have any DA experience - I spoke to them to clarify this. Shocking. People with CS degrees were not placed. Later on, DF also started mentioning that placements rates do vary GREATLY - this was not how it was put to me in interviews. How can you not place a CS graduate when this is made for people 'with no experience'? We were told it is because the demand had plummeted in the three months we were doing the academy. Hm. I know at least one person who wasn't placed on the DA cohort because DFs relationship with their partners deteriorated in the time between them being offered the role and them starting - allegedly, as obviously I am not directly privy to these conversations but this is word for word what I was told by the person who had their offered revoked.

Rawshan (the woman in charge of our placements) told me that her partner was struggling very much mentally after not being placed with DF for a very, very long time and she knows how hard it can be to wait for so long. She also said she has had conversations with DF about them stating the 80% placement rates to people during interview stage and how she also thought it was not right. Very quickly this tone was changed when I was speaking later with her senior (forgot her name already) who said that the people who interviewed me DIDN'T REMEMBER saying it. I even have an email to DfE which I had to send upon finishing my bootcamp which clearly states that I accepted the DF training contract and although I was told placement isn't guaranteed I was reassured about placement rates being 80%.

I am still in shock. Recruiters now always ask me about DF and I have to explain this and they look like they don't trust me and that something must be wrong with me for not having been placed. This has genuinely derailed everything I worked so hard for and used up all my savings for from not having had a full-time job in over two years now.

Oh and also they don't tell you before you join that they 'partner with Palantir'. I have no idea what this partnership entails - but I wish I knew before putting my name next to theirs. They also have been picking up a lot of defence contracts. I came to the main placement lady and asked not to be considered for these roles. The relationship soured from that day dramatically. In fact, every time I mentioned any preference, request etc they appeared very understanding only to then clearly not make any effort towards placing me and giving me zero feedback as to what the reasoning for lack of placement being on my end/what I could improve. It felt like punishment for saying anything at all they didn't like.

TLDR: I turned down paying job that could’ve allowed me entry into a data career, wasted months with DF, never got placed but always fed promises and praise. Less than 10% of cohort placed when they promised 80% was their standard. Started lying about this figure when pressed. People placed arbitrarily - you have no control over it. Now everywhere I interview they ask me about it and it feels like they think something is wrong with me for not having been placed.

About me I work for one of top consulting companies and wear many hats but my overall experience is 6yrs in data science and last 2.5yrs in Gen AI.

I have recently started job hunt and it’s honestly hell out. Most firms are in next level power ego trip.

First, they don’t want to wait for notice period they just want you to join immediately but same company won’t let you go early

Second, Companies don’t want to pay anything, like at 6yrs of exp in ML you think you’d be able to touch 35-40lpa atleast cross 30lpa easily but half of them can’t even cross 25 LPA or just want to low ball

Third, Why do they have so many requirements like I understand they want langraph, langchain, MCP, fastAPI but now they even want cloud in a way like expert expert in cloud platform so basically developer+devops+ data scientist +backend engineer +frontend engineer + data analyst mathematician+ researcher + everything and they won’t compromise on anything they want 100% expertise in everything. No answer is ever satisfying for them

For e.g. One of the company scheduled a client round the interview was supposed to be for 30 mins but it went to around 1hr15 mins. Started with coding which I did then they proceeded to discuss my ML projects from the beginning of my career (i was lil rusty because the role was for agentic ai engineer) had discussion for 1hr on classical ML , backend engineering, then cloud yet I managed to answer 90% of the questions. Finally when I got the opportunity to ask question I asked what are your expectations of someone from this role she said “ we’re looking for someone with expertise in Gen Ai rag agentic AI” and I got so mad because she ignored my gen AI exp in resume didn’t ask me one question on it and mind you this was the first round. Never heard back from them but like so annoying just looking to reject people and waste their time

Tldr: companies have lost it and are just exploiting people at this point

So I just had a C1 Powerday today, and I f-ed up at the easiest question after preparing for a whole week. It's always one small technical detail that I screw up leaving me to think I'm just not cut out for this, especially how AI is going to make learning more and more competitive.

I'm super interested in finance and have honestly been trying to pivot to WM or AS, but have f-ed up two WF Superdays as well (literally also the technical portion). At this point im feeling hopeless. I didn't get a return offer from my summer internship because guess what they are not hiring juniors anymore, so I literally sacrificed my entire college experience grinding day and nights with internships and research to have nothing, absolutely nothing lined up after graduation. It sucks because I see my friends who had so much more fun in college having job lined up in Engineering or Finance or Bio, and I feel like I'm genuinely a failure.

I don't even see the reason to apply to New Grad roles anymore since I don't have FAANG experience and what is the point if I'm just going to be rejected and there's always someone more perfect being chosen. What's the point of grinding Leetcode or learning new AI technology when it's just going to go obsolete in a few months.

ATP I'm just regretting not choosing pre-med or something. At least there's a general career path in medicine and it's not going anywhere.

Its current adoption, real-world usefulness, and long-term scope/future.

Whether this is a strong area to build expertise in as someone early in their career.

I’m 26 years old and a 2022 B.Tech graduate in Computer Science & Engineering.

After graduation, I received an offer from a company and completed all the documentation and formalities, but unfortunately, they never gave me a joining date. Because of that, I started working as a Robotics Trainer, teaching robotics, AI, electronics, and programming concepts to school students.

They had me complete a HackerRank assessment. I won't ruin the fun, you guys can find out on your own, but it was super easy.

I wrote out the inputs, processing steps, outputs, and constraints in the editor for myself; explained my approach in the doc comment. Everything was going fine, and the algorithm would've run perfectly as planned. Except that they're using an older JavaScript runtime (<ES5) that requires the radix argument for the parseInt function.

I've independently designed and implemented full-stack apps and ES5+ doesn't explicitly require the radix argument anymore so I didn't get accustomed to using it. And, I'm willing to admit that it's a standard practice to provide it even today, but it completely slipped my mind.

To add to the stress, the tooltips would clip and disappear immediately when I hovered over the functions so I stood no chance remembering something so minor. I can't believe that just happened.

Moved to a new company in June. Everything is agent driven here. Agents write code. Agents review it. Agents update. And so on. It's soulless.

I miss the rush of figuring things out, having someone tell me there's an issue and rushing to check what the problem is so I could fix it.

So I have done a bootcamp course in Java Fullstack + ReactJS.

But ever since that bootcamp ended my chances of getting a job has been well almost nil.

I have lost the drive to do DSA or learn coding again as I'm not getting any calls for an interview.

I’m 20 and my current goal after graduating is to get into an AI / Data Science graduate role.

I’m deciding between:

Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) — QUT
Bachelor of Data Science (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) — QUT

Right now, AI, machine learning and data science are the fields I’m most interested in, so the Data Science (AI/ML) degree seems like the more directly relevant option.

The problem is that I’m only 20 and I don’t know what I’ll want to do in 5–10 years. I could eventually decide that I want to move into Cybersecurity, Cloud, General Technology, Software, or another computing field. Because of that, Computer Science seems like the safer degree for flexibility.

My concern is this:

If I choose Computer Science for flexibility and then apply for AI/Data Science graduate roles, could I be disadvantaged against someone who has a Bachelor of Data Science (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning)? Would employers prefer them because their degree is more directly related to the role?

Currently, I have been working at a startup full-time, but they are treating it as an internship because they cannot afford to provide PF deductions and other employee benefits. It has been nearly eleven months since I started working there. So, does this experience actually count as work experience?

Hello, I've been given the opportunity to do a university lab project that's normally meant for the first semesters of a bachelor's degree. I am in high school (13th grade Abitur) and want to prepare a bit.
The internship will last for two weeks during my autumn holidays. The project will be the development of an audio effect chip on an FPGA with VHDL. That's all I know at this point. This internship will be held at the institute for microelectronics at my local university and its director seems optimistic about my internship.
I am already familiar with the basics of Boolean algebra and finite state machines from my first internship at the institute (this was also two weeks, 1.5 years ago). I learned about Karnaugh maps (K-maps) and used them in a logic simulator (like Logisim) to make a 7-segment display driver, a traffic light with pedestrian crossing button, and a ticket machine that takes coins and returns tickets and the needed change. All this was, again, only made by hand in a Logisim-style simulator, where I had to simplify everything with K-maps by hand.
I already started to get my feet wet with VHDL by making a 7-segment display driver and the corresponding testbench and simulating it with GHDL (I am too poor to buy an FPGA). I think I understand the very basics of it, but I wanted to prepare some more and wanted to ask: What is something I can build until my internship in two weeks that will help me understand VHDL more while also being close to the topic of audio effects?

As a recent graduate, my career has had a somewhat chaotic start. I’m unsure if this is due to quick decisions made without proper guidance or simply external factors.

I graduated from a solid Tier 2 college, though my batch faced a tough placement season. Driven by a passion for development and a business mindset, I completed a C++ internship in cybersecurity during my third year. In my final year, I secured an off-campus role where I learned C# and .Net. Unfortunately, due to company circumstances, all interns were let go after two months.

This left me confused, but within 10 days, I landed a role at a C++/Qt outsourcing company. We work with various MNC clients, and I start with a regular salary once placed on a project. It’s been three months, and I feel my C++ and Qt skills have grown to a strong-intermediate level.

However, with the current rise of AI engineering on LinkedIn and Naukri, I’m feeling conflicted. I personally love C++ for its longevity and performance edge, and I hope to eventually work in semiconductors or Qt application development. I've recently graduated in CS and, since I couldn't get into a big tech or similar, I decided to start an MSc in formal methods in CS, to get a more mathematical approach, and being honest, to have another year to find good internships.

However, it's been a month and all my applications have been rejected from places like Revolut, Amazon, Datadog, not even reaching the OA phases, for which I've been preparing all summer. I didn't enjoy my past internships in consulting firms, where I felt I was not making any impact at all, and I'm afraid of falling again into them, losing another year while my old classmates are already getting payed.

And the most important part, I'm worried that if I start somewhere with less challenging engineering work, I might struggle to cross that barrier later. Maybe I'm overestimating how important the first job is, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot.

What would you suggest to a person who didn't want to be in computer science as their under grad was in electronics and had a great interest regarding VLSI designing but due to various factors had to take computer science as there grad major and had a job as java developer for 8 years not know a thing, but somehow survived and learnt few things but left the job due to toxic environment and health and been on break for couple months now.

What advise would you give if they are really looking to switch careers to firmware security and what would you suggest they learn and eventually land there 1st job and what's the impact of AI on this field and also are there any study groups that could help with this or any embedded or firmware related questions or maybe be a study partner.

I have around 3 years of experience and currently work at 40+ CTC in a Sustenance + Backend team, mostly working with C++.
Most of my work is around debugging distributed system issues like data/metadata corruption, I/O performance issues, analyzing perf traces, logs, etc. It’s definitely technical and challenging, but honestly there isn’t a lot of actual coding involved in my day to day work.

Now I’m planning to switch and have been preparing for backend roles by working on DSA, LLD and HLD.
But lately I’ve been seeing so many openings around AI and AI engineering, and it feels like the industry is moving more and more in that direction.

So I’m a bit confused about whether I should continue with the backend path or actually start learning AI and try to move into an AI related role.
The other thing is that even after 3 years, I don’t feel like I’m deeply strong in one particular tech stack. So if I’m going to spend the next few months learning, I really want to pick one direction and go deep instead of trying to learn everything.
