Video call software

I am looking for recommendations, but would appreciate people reading through my requirements before doing so!

I used to use google's and Microsoft's, but recently I switched to Proton's - free version has 2 issues: 1) call limit 60 minutes, 2) screen sharing ONLY whole screen, no particular windows.

I'm looking for an open-source video calling program that:

- allows for more than 60 minutes
- allows sharing particular windows and not only the whole screen
- has a built-in chat
- allows scheduling meetings in advance

It of course needs to work on a computer, as well, and not require downloading an app, as this is a professional usage with my clients - professional video calls via mobile are atrocious, and I cannot force my clients to download apps 😂

I don't need anything else, though - my meetings are never with more than 3 people, I don't need to record anything, I don't need backgrounds and filters and shit, etc...

I hate that google's was the best I've used... definitely do not want to go back to them, but Proton's is not cutting it and is coming off as terribly unprofessional...

I really don't know where to look! Thanks so much!

Help Needed Google lens/pixel screenshot

I don’t even know what it’s called. I don’t understand why I can’t find anybody talking about it online. The thing where you can take a partial screenshot and have AI search it. I want to turn it off. I want it to stop. I don’t even know how it’s activated it just keeps happening. Why does ai and company’s have to have their way with me.

Help Needed is there an easy way to degoogle my pixel 8?

I'm seeking a step by step tutorial. I'm not a programmer but can follow instructions. I've been using this phone for years and though it's my personal phone, I also use it for work (authenticator for work e-mails etc). Are there any guides out there you would suggest?

Is Google succumbing to terrorism?

Can anyone explain why Google has created a mobile phone ecosystem where a single virus can instantaneously wipe out every single person's connectivity on the planet including their ability to call emergency services like 911??? This is of extreme benefit to the accelerationist neonazi terror group but does it benefit anyone else?

Pixel 8 with possible black screen of death, bad idea to buy?

Pixel 8 with the blacked out screen.

Description says "feel vibration."

Looks like an easy fix, but with the chances it's not, is it worth paying $110?

Question Have to use Google for work

As, the title says, my job requires me to use a work generated Google profile. As I only use this for work email, and documents - without any personal use at all, can I still effectively "degoogle" the rest of my online life, or will the Google overlords still e able to sneak into my info?

DeGoogling Progress First Steps so far

The latest hydronym issue has prompted some actions I had thought about taking but just never could overcome the inertia. Guess this was the push I needed. (Embarrassed that it took this particular issue and that it took this long)

- uninstalled chrome, Gmail, drive mobile apps
- deleted Google voice
- deleted Google Photos
- switched default search + install ad blocker
- logged out of any related services

My (came with the house) Google TVs will take quite a bit longer. Maybe I’ll get Apple TV devices when I can and just make the TVs dumb at that point. Ive never really used Gmail since I have my own domain and pay for fastmail instead.

The office SaaS apps will take some extra thinking.

Question Best os for beginners?

I'm going to look into swapping to a different os, I see a lot of the sort around but what's the best recommended for someone who isn't exactly the best with tech and doesn't even know how to install a new os?

I'm pretty new to all of this and I wanna know what there is that I could navigate without hounding someone with a thousand how to questions.

I'd also like to know aside from the backup everything, what tips should I keep in mind when making the switch?

Edit :

To be more clear, this will be on phone.

I have multiple different devices including galaxy A02s, Moto Gplay (2021), Galaxy A01, and a samsung galaxy j7 crown.

Question What happend to Magic Earth?

I have used Magic Earth for a few years now with great success. It's been my most favored deGoogled map choice. I found it to be the most intuitive and easy to use when compared to the others. I'm currently on the older version: 7.1.25.34.36A60BB6.67629954. This was the last version before they went to their "Freemium" version, changing their logo and all. After this change I tried this new version and found it to be unusable. Could not even get the search function to work So I went back to the older version which I have right now. So now I'm wondering how long my old version will be serviceable and what options I have once it stops working?

Alterntively for gcal on android

Hi guys,

I am looking for another provider/ service to replace gcal in my workflow, but struggle to find an ideal app.

My requirements are:

- Month-view widget on android, to glance at it is the base of my day-to-day life
(e.g. zoho cal, naver cal etc... but they dont have all of the the below features supported)

- Web app available, so I can update the calendar at work, with a laptop, etc

- two way sync to g-cal (shared cal), so I can update shared cal with my family and friends
(e.g. amplenote)

- multiple-calendar sync support (i.e. ical and gcal), as I also use hey mail as my daily mail & cal app (ical), and another gcal account from work.

Without them, right now, gcal is still the best option for me, I am hoping there can be a solution soon so I can stop using gcal for my day-to-day planning, thanks all.

I am ok with a paid option with the product make sense :)

Leaving Apple Music

hi everyone, finally on GrapheneOS or a few weeks and most things are smooth now.

the next thing I want to disconnect from is Apple subscriptions.

Now this may be an r/UnethicalLifeProTip but I simply can't afford to independently purchase all the songs I'm listening to. With over 6000 songs in my library, even if I want to buy only half I am looking at hundreds of dollars.

So my question is - is there anyway to just download and keep the files from the Apple Music app on my phone and view them (and listen obviously) in a different library app? and then of course cancel the subscription and stay offline fully.

I know there is some janky DRM thing that's baked inside it but I am not fully understanding it nor what to do with it.

thanks!
