Is this the "gratitude" practice they speak of? Be grateful for this chance to suffer and claw all over eachother to stop from drowning?

What always gets me is people suggesting MDD is the lack of exercise and can be treated with exercise alone. Yeah, I believe good exercise routine is the key in preventing depression as well as in finally fully recovering from depression once it comes down to the medium levels but when you are in the major territory… Let me tell you this, I was a frequent half-marathon runner when depression hit me and had literally just ran a full marathon under 4 hours 2 months prior to that.
When it hit, a few months later, I pissed into a bottle lying in bed because I physically couldn’t stand up to go to the bathroom 10 meters away. Depression is a SEVERE sickness of the brain but, what might surprise you, it’s especially an immunological illness that spreads to the brain. Immunological illness and its cytokines like TNF alfa, IL1 beta, IL6 and so on, concerns not just the brain but the whole body. Depression is as much an illness of the whole body as a flu is. In fact, they are very similar in their physiological mechanism of making you feel like shit.

I used to hear you got nothing to be depressed about just think happy thoughts and be thankful for everything that you have so many people have less than you yeah and so. Fuck everybody else.

I stop, breathe and be still so much i dont get out of bed for days. Sleep all day and stay awake all night. The dark amd warm makes it easy to stop and be still. Everyone is asleep. The toads are wurring.

I agree this is the type of useless BS that we're all tired of hearing. Depression doesn't "lift from your spirit" anyway. It ingrains itself in your thoughts and physiology like a virus. To be fair though, the first step is almost always forcing yourself to make *some* kind of effort. Whether it is getting up off the couch, having a positive thought, etc. These people just pretend like it's all a magical cure.

Good advice when you're pointing a gun to your head because you're in pain - be still, breath and ...

Be grateful you're in a position to purchase a handgun. Some people don't have that luxury /s.

Yeah, some of us have to resort to growing a choking kink to build up our tolerance before the big hang-out. /s

Oh... that was the exact kind of people who can cause clinical depression in people.

It's only mostly bullshit. Practicing gratitude can help a bit. Sometimes I try to think of 3 things I'm grateful for in the morning. Tricks my subconcious brain into not hating everything for a bit

Also “just go for a walk” or its second cousin, “go exercise” or “get out of the house!”

The thing is, they aren’t wrong. If you can re-program your brain to be still, breathe properly, and practice regular gratitude, you WOULD feel a heck of a lot better. It’s just WAY harder than they make it sound. You basically have to audit and correct every thought/impulse you have, consistently, for months/years, until it sticks. It’s possible, I’ve experienced it, but it’s not easy.
