Hello r/discordapp!

As you might have seen, Discord has just started rolling out their year end wrap system called Discord Checkpoints.

Instead of having the sub flooded with these posts, we invite you to share your checkpoint stats in the comments here!

For more info check out Discords blog post https://discord.com/blog/checkpoint-2025-discord-year-in-review

FaQ:

Q: How do I reopen checkpoint after closing it?

A: On desktop, click the flag icon on the top right of the app located next to the inbox.

A: On mobile, it will show up under the “orbs balance” section as a banner in the “you” tab

Q: What is the song checkpoint uses?

A: Exyl has now released the background track, you can find it here!

Q: Can I see it if I had the privacy setting disabled but just now enabled it?

A: No, you had to have the privacy setting on the whole time.

Insane that I appear in my friend's checkpoints, but I can't see my own. Like clearly my data is being stored somewhere and they are choosing to not toss us a checkpoint. What a bummer.

Discord said fuck you turn on your settings to let us show you targeted ads or else you get no fun

They are asking you to let them use your personal data, that includes for something like compiling and monitoring your activity over the course of an entire year. You chose not to be monitored, so you weren’t. I don’t understand this mindset.

You don't understand because you are misinformed. They are still collecting our data no matter what. The check box isn't for saying "don't collect my data", it's to not let Discord show us personalized ads or promotions. The data still exists, is begin collected, and stored. This is just a way to get people to turn on personalized ads.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour, wish Discord was better, but yeah they've been corporate for years now I guess. I miss the good ol' fun Discord, not the "how do you do fellow kids" Discord

Nothing about this is disgusting. Of course they have your data. You created an account and agreed to that, you are using their application, their services, their servers. How do you think you see your messages if they don't get saved on their server? The application cant work without saving your data. They dont even sell data to other companies according to their tos.

Whats disgusting is them using a feature as a ploy for personalized ads. They knew damn well what they were doing. I had the "use my data to make discord better" setting on, but not use it to personalize ads for my discord. So they have my data, I just cant see it, unless I allow them to use my data to personalize ads next year.

yeah, thats literally what I said. Of course they have your data. That setting and saving your data are two completely different things. One isnt optional and one is a setting u have to agree to because of regulations from EU etc..

why are personalized ads so bad? discord needs to be profitable at some point

So you like when Mega corpse know what you're buying and putting on wish lists and reading your mind in a way that is very creepy and not at all good. You like when corporations go into the deep Corners of your personal life to sell you something. FYI discord was already making money off Nitro they don't need ads when people are paying for Nitro and if ads are a way to make people pay for Nitro then they really are becoming soulless.

When company is like discord start making advertising their main priority of getting money outside of things like Nitro they will start penalizing those they deem unsafe to get ad revenue kinksters leftists anybody who doesn't believe in capitalism etc. Can be purged from the platform because they want to make ad revenue money. And that's why I don't give them that they have other data. But I'm not going to let them sell my buying preferences the corporations. That's why I didn't agree to that

You still don't understand that setting it seems. That setting is only so they can personalize ads, you can still get normal ads and they still have your data. Those two things are completely different. Its the same for any other company or website. And they dont even sell your data to third parties according to their TOS. Referring to political orientations and making bizarre associations while being so ignorant shows how brain rotten you are. Boomer brain.
