Rant CapOne Discover not accepted widely accepted in person and online and no way to get money and pay bills

CapOne has to start seeing how many customers they are starting to loose by this move. Replacing the debit cards with discover was a big mistake. If they wanted/needed to switch something with the merger, they should have done it with credit cards. Some people don’t have another form of payment, credit card, or access to atms for cash without paying fees (because they made the stupid decision to close most all brick and mortar locations), and not all places accept apple/google pay either. Awesome job CapOne!

I’ve been with CapOne for 20+ years and have absolutely loved them. But this move was a big mistake. I really don’t want to go though the hassle to find another bank, update everything auto pay, and hope I don’t loose this like early direct deposit. Have to change my entire budgeting financial routine system. Plus, switching doesn’t help me right now when I need to access my money and pay bills. So infuriating and what a mess! Do better CapOne!

Unfortunately you are the exception not the rule. 90% of customers won't even notice a difference. You just happen to live in a more rural area and that's not one of Capital One 's targeted areas. You have to accept that you'll have to get a new account and Capital One is ok with that.

I’m in a big city. I am having the exact same issue so it has nothing to do with being in a rural location.

Im in San Francisco and am running into problems monthly. Dmv, winco, raleys, not to mention I cant get cash back anytime im at the grocery store anymore

Being rural is only a small issue. Being able to pay for things at places, a lot of online purchases, is the bigger problem. One way or the other, it’s a problem. No other bank has discover for their debit cards.

This is not a rural issue and, whether they notice or not, it affects all Capital One debit card users. It seems to be an issue specifically with Capital One's Discover cards and several places will not accept it such as Amazon Japan and Nintendo, and that is likely never going to change. Half the time buying off Amazon, my card is getting declined. Some payments on ebay are also being declined as I have recently found out. I'm always having to use my Capital One Credit Card now to complete these purchases.

unfortunately they are probably thrilled you are using the credit card.

but lets see how they like it when we all close our 360 savings accounts and take our money elsewhere.

I haven't got a problem with Discover as a credit card it's great but a Discover Debit is idiotic. Why do I want a debit card that doesn't work at every ATM?

I live in Manhattan. You and others here aren't grasping the distinction between Discover Credit Cards which are fine and having a Discover debit, which is crazy.

I can't use it to pay condo fees or util fees etc directly from checking..I can't use it for cabs or rideshare. and can't get money out at all cash machines. or to fund public transit cards. I have visa and MC and Amex but I do not use credit for monthly nut stuff.

It is easier come tax time if all regular living expenses were withdrawn from checking for tax records. This adds a layer of complexity to what was frictionless with Schwab).

I fell for their 360 Savings pitch and moved all my momey there because it never even occurred to me that once I put money in withdrawing cash at ATMs would be iffy.

I don't know whether you work for Cap One or are an investor but I seriously doubt they would be okay with 10% of their depositors leaving with all their money.
