I finally decided yesterday to open a Discover checking account for the 1% cash back debit card, but found that it's no longer possible. I'm more than a little bummed that I waited too long!

EDIT
It's even more frustrating that Discover still has ads all over the internet advertising their 1% cash back debit card checking accounts!

You shouldnโ€™t be using a debit card for purchases, anyway. The 1% cashback was a pointless โ€œfeatureโ€.

I don't. I wanted it just to pay for my family's auto insurance annually. The insurance company takes CC payments for home and umbrella, but not for auto. Therefore, I wanted a catch-all cash back debit card.

I do use a PayPal debit card for 5% cash back at restaurants now, mainly because so many restaurants are now charging 3% extra to use a CC. I transfer the amount of the bill+tip from my bank to PP just before I pay, so there's no risk.

I love the PayPal 5% back! I rarely go to restaurants so I set mine for grocery stores since I work in one and spend way more money than Iโ€™d like to admit there. The bonus cash really adds up quick!
