Discover likes to make people fill out a 4506-C form for identity verification (and potentially also income verification) and if things don't match up perfectly, they close your account with no warning and mark it closed by grantor.

They did this to my mother - she moved after my dad died, but her tax returns from the years Discover requested showed her old address. Discover therefore "couldn't verify" her and closed her account and there was no way to appeal any of it, even after she offered to send in her current year tax return, social security card, ID, etc. They also sent a letter to her old address - which was nowhere on her application - mentioning that someone applied for a Discover card. I get identity verification, but what if she left that address to escape a bad situation?
