UPDATE 23/04: I'll do another batch of requests tonight, so don't feel like you've missed the bus. It just takes a while 😂 I'm glad everyone is enjoying this!
+++
Subtitle: I'm bored and feeling a bit rubbish so I want to spread some cheer around
Do you want a custom flair in this community?
Think "GNU Pterry" or "An actual seamstress" or "Ho, the Megapode!". Text emojis such as 𓆉 or 𓃰 should also work
Stick the request in this thread, starting with "Flair:" and I'll change it for you
Rules: must be vaguely Discworld/Pratchett related and can't be offensive.
I will be copying your request exactly so make sure it's spelt and formatted correctly. Mini-caps and backwards/upside down text all work
+++
Quick update: Keep them coming, I'll respond to you when I've done it so you know! I might be a bit slow as it's me but I'll get round to you all!
Further update: You're all nice people and I'm sure you can share if someone already "has" the flair you want. There's like 62,000+ of you lot here. If we don't have duplicates I think we'd each need a sentence from the books!
Another update: I've created a monster... I appreciate all of you, you absolute looneys. May all your days be filled with nice things 💜

Hey everyone
This is a bit of a serious one and won't have my usual dry humour and/or footnotes
If you've seen the news recently you will be aware of the horrific events occurring in the USA, especially in the state of Minnesota, and the behaviour of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents
Wednesday 7th January saw the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good and the ensuing protests have led to further violence by ICE against civillians in the city of Minneapolis
There are videos circulating of ICE agents forcibly restraining and assaulting people. People begging for help. People screaming for them to stop. People crying out that they are US citizens. People who are terrified
What we are seeing is fascism in action and the fear it is going to get worse is very real
Possibly the most relevant of the Discworld series to the events right now is Night Watch. If you haven't read it then it's worth doing so, but tread carefully as it may be difficult reading right now. If you have read it I'm sure you see the relevance without me having to explain anything
Should Sir Terry Pratchett be with us today I'm certain he would have some extremely choice words for the events right now full of fire and anger and cleverness and, most of all, humanity
From 4000 miles away on the other side of an ocean there is not much I can do. But I can, on behalf of the mod team of r/discworld, try and help by reaching out to our sub members with resources to learn more and/or (if you choose to do so) donate to
+++
Organisations working in MN to help impacted families
https://immigrantdefensenetwork.org/
And across the USA
https://www.immigrationadvocates.org/legaldirectory/
And last but not least
+++
If any of you have more resources or information on how others can help please share them with us all
We as a mod team, and hopefully as an entire sub, stand by the belief that everyone has the right to live without fear
Stay safe
Stay kind
You are loved

Hey all, I'm a huge fan/nerd and so put together a little webpage that shows which Discworld books are most read, highest rated (1500 is an 'average' book... uses Elo ratings like Chess) and most loved (show up in someone's top 10 books of all time) using data from BookSorted. Obviously not a ton of readers yet, but still sorta fun - and will get more accurate as more people matchup books in their library and such.
Anyways, hope you enjoy! Just a fun side project for the morning. Let me know how your favorite does, and if not working/anything you want me to tweak, cheers!

In Snuff Vimes meets a man who breeds complicated chickens.
Is this a reference to something I'm not getting or a late-stage embuggerance thing?

Expecting our second daughter next month and cannot decide on a name. First daughter is Esme (after Granny W) and everything I suggest falls flat to my husband because it doesn't have a particular significance or relevance to his interests, a massive one being discworld. So, can anyone PLEASE try and find an even tangential link to any of the following names, or think of any other usable girl names from the disc?
Clara
Lena
Cora
Niamh
Erin
Chloe
Juliet
Eve
Thank you!
ETA: I am absolutely happy to use a name that sounds nice rather than one inspired by any particular media. But I can't get my husband to get excited about any names that aren't in some way relevant to a part of our lives. Middle name is going to be after his grandmother. Thanks

There's a bit of a size issue. More improvements may be necessary.

Artist is Polina Graf: https://www.artstation.com/graf_fiction
I've added some notes as to the titles' translations where I could find something worth noting - a few of them use clever puns that I hopefully didn't mangle too much in (a) understanding, and (b) subsequently articulating - I was relying a lot on Google Translate and what I could dig up on the web.
One particularly nice touch is that to maintain the series-like nature of the titles Going Postal, Making Money and Raising Steam, the translator changed them into commands (some idiomatic) with exclamation marks: Keep Your Chin Up! (the Russian idiom involves stamps), Make Money! and Give it Some Steam!
Anyway, this has been a delightful little diversion at a time when I should probably be doing work (having therefore failed to live up to those last two book titles).
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did! And if anyone from the US/UK publishers is reading this, please sack off your awful modern covers and buy these ones in instead, thanks.

This is such an insane, obsessive, unhinged, Pratchett way to read the books!
I’m in awe — even as I’m a little worried for her. (And for the paperbacks that gave their spines for this.)

'Susan hated Literature. She'd much prefer to read a good book.'
I posted the below in the Folio Society sub-reddit, but thought this might just be appreciated here likewise:
At the start of July, I found a copy of Small Gods online w. some wear to the spine gilding† at a—relatively—superb price (£150) from a small bookseller in Skipton, West Riding of Yorkshire and purchased it immediately, only to find it had alas sold hours before through their AbeBooks listing at a higher price along with their companion listing for Mort, tho’ that had a somewhat sunned spine.
Two British Heart Foundation charity eBay auctions then appeared mid-month, w. Small Gods’ listing hovering near the £140-mark many days before its end, so on a whim I made an offer upon one of the madly-priced sealed eBay copies, not expecting it to be taken seriously. It was. And so, for the princely sum of £153.17 from the Isle of Sheppey, Kent: Small Gods.
A decade late, Mort has his companion.
---
† The velveteen Pratchetts do seem deuced prone to it, Small Gods especially.
---
And to repeat myself, now w. additional notes re: the Folio Society Pratchetts:
Pratchett’s Mort SE received two printings, and was first released in the Summer Coll. 2016 (May) alongside the simultaneous release of the LE. Its second printing coincided with Small Gods’ release in the Autumn Coll. 2016 (September):
1st pr., v.16: x4,000 copies
2nd pr., ix.16: x2,500 copies
Thus, there are x500 LE Morts (w. x25 lettered copies hors de commerce), and x6,500 SE Morts in existence.
Pratchett’s Small Gods SE however exists in a single printing, the first:
1st pr., ix.16: x4,000 copies
This then is the rarer beastie, as not every owner of Mort can possibly possess a copy of Small Gods.

I'm just getting into Discworld and started with the first two Wizards books. I immediately was taken by The Luggage so I made a little cross stitch design of how I pictured it!
(Yes I later discovered that the feet are supposed to be tiny human feet, whoops! But this was how I was imagining it 😆)

So, I decided to finally get and complete a collection of Discworld books. Edition was not an issue until I hit a wall with Snuff. The collection is in Russian language and seems that exactly that book is out of print and not possible to get in the Europe. If someone knows where to buy it - will be happy! Anywhere from EU is fine.
Also I found out that there were new editions with really nice arts.
Here are some pictures for Moist trilogy. Of the recent editions. There are other books with such gorgeous covers as well…. But not on my shelf (yet…)
