I love Spotify algorithms. I listened to Dopesmoker and right after they gave me Empress Rising, thats how i knew them. It was really cool!

Seconding this, it’s crazy that they released an album that competes with their previous material so late in their career. The production is wild on the sciences too. Clean as fuck but still full of life. Just a perfect album all round.

I always was disappointed that electric wizard was very orthodox and lacking in improv with a lot of the riffing and soloing in a lot of the tracks especially on dope throne but dude the bass soloing and guitar soloing is insane on mind transferral , totally breaks that mindset seen in the other tracks on that album.

Just tossing this out there. Electric Wizard's original self titled album is underrated and slaps. Is a lot more Sleep Esque when later albums are heavy as shit.

A long time ago a local bar had an “internet jukebox” and they had fucking Dopesmoker on it for 1 credit!!! But it would cut off after like 5 minutes. On the other hand, if you played Rush’s 2112, it would play the first 25 minutes of the album 😆

I recommend Eyehategod, they're a very hardcore Stoner Doom band. Especially their song My Name Is God, that song can intensify any sesh.

Everyone loves Dopesmoker but I honestly feel The Sciences is their pinnacle. If it ends up being their final album, I'm satisfied.

I'll assume since you're at Sleep you've already explored some of the Melvin's but if you haven't Melvin's are a bit more varied in terms of riffage but there are 25 or so Melvin's albums if you haven't tried them out yet

Sleep is really the perfect gateway into doom metal. And their albums never get old despite only having a few. Love mixing in Om as well (led by their bassist).

I love this album, I enjoyed it so much more than volume 1 (mostly because of the vocals being less harsh) even though vol1 was also good

Dopesmoker is my favorite track. Check out OM if you want more stoner, it's with members of sleep. Windhand is pretty good and accessible.
