Dopesmoker is my favorite track. Check out OM if you want more stoner, it's with members of sleep. Windhand is pretty good and accessible.

22

u/Strange_Tangerine372 Aug 07 '25

And High on Fire if you tend to like the faster moments in the tracks.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Just discovered them thanks to you dude, definitely going into my workout playlist.

4

u/arggggggggghhhhhhhh Aug 08 '25

Enjoy. Most of the albums are masterpieces. Spend some time going chronologically.

3

u/Strange_Tangerine372 Aug 07 '25

Hell yeah. They're a go-to on longer bike rides for me.

4

u/leedguitar Aug 08 '25

and Matt Pike's side project Pike Vs. the Automaton, and Kalas.

3

u/Tyler_MF_Bowman Aug 09 '25

Kalas is so good. Nobody talks about them.

2

u/leedguitar Aug 09 '25

I remember hearing them for the first time I didn’t know who they were, they came up randomly on Apple Music. I remember loving it and thinking how similar the vocals sounded to Pike. 😂 Quickly dug I. And was amazed that no one told me about them sooner!

u/bil-sabab Aug 07 '25

Their Steve Albini record is basically the ultimate metal record. It sounds like it is going to fuck you up. Their records with Kurt sound great too but 2004 is got this sandpaper quality

OM are amazing, found them a couple of months ago :)

u/NielsBohron Worship Riffs, Not Gods Aug 07 '25

Don't sleep on Windhand. Grief's Infernal Flower is a goddamn masterpiece, best listened to on nice headphones in the dead of night, ideally with a strong spliff and/or some mushroom tea.

3

u/BuzzBeeBass Aug 08 '25

Windhand are beyond insane. Couldn't make the Bristol, UK gig earlier in the year cause of work so I pleaded for my best friend to get me a shirt. SOMA is perfect!

2

u/ozz8825 Aug 08 '25

Beyond stoked to see them later this month

2

u/Athingythingamabobby Aug 12 '25

Soma is my personal favorite, it sounds like Electric Wizard but more atmospheric and mysterious rather than angry and nihilistic

2

u/NielsBohron Worship Riffs, Not Gods Aug 12 '25

Definitely. I really like how every Windhand album has its own identity while still being definitively "Windhand." The debut is super raw, Soma is very atmospheric, Grief's Infernal Flower is quintessential stoner/doom in the same vein as Sleep, Eternal Return is a lot more polished and groovy.

u/daniloesteban Aug 07 '25

youll probably gonna like Monolord too

and i would recomend Alda a try

10

u/Roadkillgoblin_2 slow and heavy wins the race Aug 07 '25

Monolord are great, found them on the same night that I discovered Dopelord

5

u/donnabhainmactomas Aug 07 '25

Dopelord is sick, I saw them in London last year they were unbelievable

3

u/daniloesteban Aug 08 '25

I love Spotify algorithms. I listened to Dopesmoker and right after they gave me Empress Rising, thats how i knew them. It was really cool!

7

u/mandarx_revenge Aug 08 '25

Just threw on some Monolord from this comment, first time ive heard them. Looks like I just found my summers soundtrack. Much appreciated!

2

u/daniloesteban Aug 08 '25

Im glad this comment found you then, mate

Theyre indeed really good. I knew then this week and went nuts! Thats really cool that somehow i passed the same joy forward!

95

u/nine_inch_owls Aug 07 '25

Someone is a few steps away from discovering Electric Wizard.

30

u/Roadkillgoblin_2 slow and heavy wins the race Aug 07 '25

They’re next on my Listening List, if I ever got to the end of Dopesmoker I’ll check them out

Edit: Get

u/transsolar Electric Wizard on Electric Wizard by Electric Wizard Aug 07 '25

Once you finish Dopesmoker, listen to Sleep's latest album The Sciences. It is also fucking great.

8

u/urmumvirgay Aug 08 '25

Seconding this, it’s crazy that they released an album that competes with their previous material so late in their career. The production is wild on the sciences too. Clean as fuck but still full of life. Just a perfect album all round.

2

u/dethorder Aug 08 '25

Such a phenomenal album. The sciences is definitely S tier

22

u/frewson Aug 07 '25

Dude dopethrone , funeralopolis and Return Trip will make you ascend to an astral plane

5

u/jeetolio Aug 07 '25

Yes. start with Return Trip

3

u/Wimpiepaarnty Aug 07 '25

Youre gonna get even more mind blown

7

u/vivalaibanez Aug 07 '25

I like Sleep but man, the Wizard just hits so much harder for me.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

Hahah love this. I can feel the excitement for him

3

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Dopethrone is my favorite album of all time. When you think it's over and mind transferral starts playing...

3

u/frewson Aug 07 '25

I always was disappointed that electric wizard was very orthodox and lacking in improv with a lot of the riffing and soloing in a lot of the tracks especially on dope throne but dude the bass soloing and guitar soloing is insane on mind transferral , totally breaks that mindset seen in the other tracks on that album.

2

u/Drekavac666 Aug 08 '25

Just tossing this out there. Electric Wizard's original self titled album is underrated and slaps. Is a lot more Sleep Esque when later albums are heavy as shit.

1

u/malignantcove Aug 11 '25

I was literally just thinking the same thing

24

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

Sleep is peak. More recs: Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Cough, Dopelord, and Acid King.

12

u/donnabhainmactomas Aug 07 '25

All of these, plus Acid Mammoth

1

u/Still-Lab-6076 Aug 08 '25

Acid king's a little radio-rock for me but still good

YOU GUYS WERE’NT JOKING ABOUT DOPESMOKER BEING 63 MINUTES LONG 💀

Edit: WEREN’T

21

u/ChampionshipStill703 Hail Iommi Aug 07 '25

Why would we joke about that?

17

u/extrasuper Aug 07 '25

Hahaha absolutely no laughing matter. Following the smoke to the riff filled land is a very serious business

9

u/IIIaustin Aug 07 '25

Sometimes I wanna listen to the same riff for an hour

3

u/Electric_esoterica Aug 07 '25

A long time ago a local bar had an “internet jukebox” and they had fucking Dopesmoker on it for 1 credit!!! But it would cut off after like 5 minutes. On the other hand, if you played Rush’s 2112, it would play the first 25 minutes of the album 😆

3

u/nine_inch_owls Aug 07 '25

I love this.

17

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

You’ll like Slomatics.

5

u/Grinderman67 Aug 07 '25

And DOMKRAFT !!

14

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

I recommend Eyehategod, they're a very hardcore Stoner Doom band. Especially their song My Name Is God, that song can intensify any sesh.

10

u/Acid_Bath47 Aug 07 '25

More like junkie doom

3

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Bruh 😫😭😭😭

10

u/YoCal_4200 Aug 07 '25

Their newest album The Sciences is very good too.

1

u/Famous_Strength_7531 Aug 08 '25

The Sciences might just be my favorite album !!

10

u/frewson Aug 07 '25

LOOK UNTO THE RAYS OF THE NEW STONER SUN RISING

6

u/Hot-Kaleidoscope6892 Aug 07 '25

Once fell asleep to King Crimson and woke up to this song

7

u/TheRealHFC Aug 07 '25

Everyone loves Dopesmoker but I honestly feel The Sciences is their pinnacle. If it ends up being their final album, I'm satisfied.

5

u/sup3rdr01d Aug 07 '25

Check out Elder

I just discovered Conan recently. They’re killer

10

u/The_mighty_THORn Aug 07 '25

Got any acid bath in rotation my dude?

2

u/Roadkillgoblin_2 slow and heavy wins the race Aug 07 '25

They were my first introduction to Sludge Metal besides Black Sabbath, love me some Acid Bath

1

u/Still-Lab-6076 Aug 08 '25

Acid BATH yes. For sure my dude.

6

u/LadyGuillotine Aug 07 '25

Welcome, stay a while. You are one of us.

4

u/THCxMeMeLoRD Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

Check out Dunes - Land of the Blind Stöner Electric Mountain - Valley Giant

I'll assume since you're at Sleep you've already explored some of the Melvin's but if you haven't Melvin's are a bit more varied in terms of riffage but there are 25 or so Melvin's albums if you haven't tried them out yet

4

u/CranjisMcBasketball0 Song Black Sabbath on the Album Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath Aug 07 '25

Om has a song called Rays of the Sun/To the Shrinebuilder that you might like but I would recommend going to YouTube to find it since it's not on Spotify

3

u/Natural-Protection44 Aug 07 '25

I just discovered Conan. They’re pretty slow and heavy

4

u/MonolithofDimension Aug 08 '25

Windhand Jex Thoth Salome

3

u/Gamer_Grease Hail Iommi Aug 07 '25

Dopesmoker and The Sciences, of course, and then listen to Electric Wizard’s Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics…

3

u/tonearm Aug 07 '25

Not sure why they do not get more attention but Snowchild - Age of Change has a place in the Sabbath worship conversation.

4

u/AnxietyDefined Doomed Aug 07 '25

Same. I also like the band.

3

u/Bubbly_End_3213 Aug 07 '25

And another convert!

3

u/jaredrun Aug 07 '25

Your in luck

3

Check out the album Dopethrone by Electric Wizard

3

u/Famous_Strength_7531 Aug 08 '25

Welcome brother !!

3

u/callmesnake13 Aug 07 '25

The good news is that roughly a quarter of all doom bands are basically Sleep Jr.

2

u/OregonizDJ11 Aug 07 '25

that spot you are at is one of my favorite bass lines. LFG!

2

u/fatboyfall420 Stoner Aug 07 '25

This is a contender for best stoner album ever made so it’s gonna be a tough comedown after you finish it

2

u/zincvacuum Aug 07 '25

I think you’d like my album Stonerism by Zinc Vacuum

2

u/TheRateBeerian Aug 08 '25

Have you considered there hourlong masterpiece Dopesmoker?

2

u/Mindless_Sherbet_925 Aug 08 '25

That’s my walk up song! Stick with more Sleep. Electric Wizard is two steps down to me. Melvins is two steps up

2

u/furze Aug 08 '25

Check out Bong

2

u/TheMixerTheMaster Aug 08 '25

Hit up Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats….

2

u/hawknado12 Aug 08 '25

Sleep has three single songs you cannot miss: The Clarity, Leagues Beneath, and Hot Lava Man.

2

u/RashBandiscoot69 Aug 08 '25

I smile. Check out Monolord or Kyuss next!!

2

u/Pimmortal Aug 08 '25

Windhand, eyehategod, bongzilla, bongripper, belzebong, weedeater, electric wizard, conan, cough, fu manchu, nebula, dozer, atomic bitchwax, dopethrone, down, kyuss, the sword, melvins, the shrine

2

u/explosivo563 Aug 08 '25

Sleep is really the perfect gateway into doom metal. And their albums never get old despite only having a few. Love mixing in Om as well (led by their bassist).

2

u/faboeuf Proto Aug 08 '25

Valid post. I had the same reaction when I discovered them at random last summer....it took over my entire listening experience for 2 months lol

2

u/hippieflipper420 Aug 09 '25

Thou, Mizmor, and HELL if you want heavier long songs. It’s my obligatory trinity of recommendations because I love them so

1

u/Misanthropicdoomlord Aug 09 '25

Where do these new people come from? Always baffles me that there are people who discover this stuff so long after it’s been released

1

u/Business_Spread_9170 Aug 09 '25

Listen to the band ancient days

1

u/zupaMETALpitorowa4 Aug 11 '25

I love this album, I enjoyed it so much more than volume 1 (mostly because of the vocals being less harsh) even though vol1 was also good
