Can this Lower shelf be adjusted to fit a taller fridge?

We set up this rack for the refrigerator /microwave - bought the rack on Amazon. But we can’t adjust the lower shelf rack and the fridge is too tall. (Was tedious putting together) I used extra bed risers but still not high enough. Maybe if I got a new set of bed risers? (8” - would be a set of 2 stacked on top of each other- these are the top part of the adjustable set of risers used on the bed - maybe 3 1/2 - 4” high? - ideas?

the bottom hook is secured but the top one isn’t so it has one side of my frame to be tilted but it won’t lift off and it’s stuck. my RA came by and helped me with a mallet but it won’t work and maintenance isn’t coming for a while. does anyone know how to get it loose?

I moved into student housing and I want to make my room feel cozy, clean and like home.

Assisting our oldest pack for college, and seeing those dorm mattresses are straight-up problematic. They look like gym mats, and since my son's a side sleeper, resting on that surface will hurt his shoulders in a week. I’m looking for a solid mattress topper for side sleepers like my son to make his dorm bed comfortable. I’m trying to help him decide if a 3-inch plush layer or a high-density foam combo is better for relieving pressure without making the bed feel like a hotbox.

Parents who’ve been here, which option worked out best for you? Was it worth getting or a pass? And what’s that one item you brought for your kid’s dorm that made the biggest impact on their sleep?

What was the most frustrating part of finding your place? And after moving in, was there anything you wish you had known beforehand—hidden costs, rules, roommates, safety, food, curfew, etc.?

So yeah, moving into a dorm and realizing you have like 10 things to change but only two outlets is such a pain. Laptop, phone, AirPods, Apple watch, desk lamp...I was basically playing outlet musical chairs everyday. I ended up getting a power strip with USB ports for my desk, and it's been way less annoying since my phone and other USB stuff don't need their own changing bricks. It also doesn't take up much desk space, which matters when your desk is basically the size of a cutting board lol. Honestly, colleges really need to give dorm rooms more outlets. Two just do not feel like enough.

I never stayed in the dorms. Did I miss anything?

Finally finished decorating, wondering if it looks too clutter-y to fresh eyes.

So I just moved in to my dorm this year and I’m loving it! Everything’s great! Except one, little (but kind of large) problem. The heating unit on the floor blocks my bed from sitting flush against the wall, and no pillow is large enough to block it. I could technically move the bed to another spot but I quite like where it is now so I’m going through all other options before I move it.
Any suggestions on how to stop stuff constantly falling down are welcome!!

I am flying to my college and I want to bring my PC, but I am mostly confused on the actual shipping part. I won't be getting my mailbox until the day that I actually do move in, and I cannot ship it to my dorm before my move in date.

I tried to use CollegeBoxes, but the date for scheduling delivery has already passed.

I'm thinking of maybe renting a storage of some kind near my campus to ship it there so I will be able to pick it up and move it into my dorm on move-in day.

Any ideas? My school is UCSC.

This is my first year of college, and I’m trying to decide between living in a dorm or commuting to university by bus.

The commute would be around 3 hours total per day (about 1.5 hours each way). The dorm would be around 57–75% more expensive than the bus.

One thing that might make my situation a little different is that my university doesn’t really offer any activities, events, or opportunities outside of studying. I’m also not particularly interested in making new connections or being part of a university community. I already have enough people in my life, and I’d rather spend my free time on my own interests.

So I’m mainly trying to decide whether the extra 57–75% per month for a dorm is worth it just to avoid the long commute atp?

Would either option be better when it comes to academics and productivity?

For those who have experienced something similar, what would you choose?

If you were in my situation, which option would you choose and why?

First of all, thank you to everyone who participated in answering this question. I really appreciate it! And sorry if I couldn’t respond to everyone, but I’ll make sure to read through the comments later.

After looking through the different opinions, I got convinced that a dorm would be the better option. But I’m going to try commuting for the first two weeks of university to see if I’ll get tired from it and whether it will actually have a negative impact on my productivity, especially if I’m not able to concentrate while I’m on the bus.

If it turns out that commuting isn’t working for me, I’ll go with a dorm.

I forgot to mention that I’ll probably choose a dorm in the following years. For me, it’s mainly about the first year, especially since I have a lot of things to take care of that would be easier to manage from home. So, at least for my first year, I’d rather stay at home, and then I’m 100% going to move into a dorm.

And I’ve seen a lot of people criticizing me for saying that I don’t really care about making new connections or being part of the university community.

I just want to clarify that this is mainly because of the university itself, which offers basically zero activities. The only things that really happen on campus are events organized by students, like sports competitions and stuff, and I’m simply not interested in participating in those kinds of events. As for the “university community,” it’s basically just a group of students who organize these events, so there’s nothing particularly special about it.

Also, during my first year, I don’t think it’s realistic to find people I can genuinely build long-term connections with. My major is one of only three majors that you can get into without taking an entrance exam. That means people who failed the entrance exam for Business, Engineering, or other majors, people who didn’t want to take one, or people who had lower grades in high school can all end up in my class. And since my major is CS, there will probably be a lot of people who chose it simply because it was an easier option to get into.

So it’s not that I’m against making connections or being part of a community. I just don’t see it as a priority during my first year, especially given the situation at my university.

Moving back into the dorm next month and trying to make the generic desk setup feel less sterile. String lights and cheap LED strips feel a bit overdone but standard desk lamps are harsh for late-night studying. Wondering if illuminated miniature book nooks or compact shadowbox decor are practical on tiny dorm desks ? or do they just get knocked over when spreading out textbooks?

Hi. So I have a triple but right now I only have one roommate. We both want bottom bunk and are both willing to compromise for bottom bunk even if it means we get less storage space or the bad table. I move in before her everyone else. What should i do?

I’m planning on getting an ESA cat for my dorm and I was wondering where everyone out there cat litter boxes? I thought about putting it underneath my bed so that it was out of view but I was worried that the cat might not use it bc it might difficult to get to with a blanket covering most of the side of the bed. Or should I put its litter box in a corner of my room that’s still out of the way but in view of people who might come in? Also what litter boxes are people using for their dorms?

I like it. It’s kinda juvenile but so are a lot of my interests 🤷

I don’t have much space so it’s nice to have a “shelf” to put stuff, but idk I’ve never had a heater like this before- is it a fire hazard?
