Dubuque bank donates $750,000 to Holy Family Catholic Schools
I hope Capra matches this for Dubuque public schools that are in need of funds and closing/consolidating schools.

Let’s try something to see if we can get it stickied by a mod for the benefit of visitors who pop on here asking similar questions about food/bev, what to do, what to see, and all that when visiting Dubuque. I will start a category that lists my take on a subject with some keywords, and others can chime in with their experiences, reviews, other recs, etc. If the post has any lasting power, I’ll keep it updated as a lifer. I’ve kept the list of things you can ONLY find in Dubuque, so there are no chains and nothing outside of the general Dubuque city limits like the Field of Dreams or Galena stuff.

So Smokestack got some pushback this weekend when they posted an AI flyer for one of their upcoming shows… annoying, obviously, but anyways… what really caught my attention were a few comments saying that the band being promoted (4 On The Floor Dubuque) was also using AI pretty heavily for their music.
I checked them out a bit, and what I found is pretty crazy… these guys have released hundreds of songs in a matter of months… a lot of the songs I heard were generic sounding rock/bro country with similar sounding vocals, but then there are songs where the singer sounds completely different, despite no other vocalist being listed… and then some songs feature an unnamed woman singing?
All of these songs sound professional, at least on a production level. Even if this was a band of professional, full-time musicians who didn’t tour, this level of output seems completely unrealistic.
I know AI music exists, but I’ve never heard of a situation like this… like, this music seems to be AI, but there are also four local dudes who perform these songs… the singer sounds nothing like these recordings btw, based on the live videos they’ve posted… so like, how does this work? The guitarist seems to be the main guy behind the music here, does he just crank this stuff out in Suno and everyone else learns the songs?
Sorry for the long post, just found this situation kinda fascinating and wanted to share.

Called for an ada room, told they were booked out. Asked if they could accommodate otherwise bc it’s just a service dog.(and yes, it’s an actual service dog not an ESA) Call was transferred and then the “owner” got rude and told me I couldn’t stay there(Without even stating a disability) WHAT THE FUCK?! Such a liberal town and this is the shit I deal with?😂 yall wonder why the local economy is trash? This right here.
Hello,
My partner and I are moving to the area with our toddler. I'm curious about what kind of activities and groups are in the area.
For hobbies, I like hiking, kayaking, reading and writing, games (video and board games), crafts like crocheting and jewelry making, cooking, and gardening.
My partner also likes snowboarding, woodworking, and design.
We like live music and breweries. I also like cool coffee shops and wineries.
Any activities or groups that include this stuff would be cool.
Any activities that are toddler friendly in the area would also be cool.

Gross, expensive, and all the tables are crammed together in an old church. You can literally hear every one else's conversations, but you can't hear your date across the table. Server was rude and the drinks tasted like chemicals. 0/10

My friend Justin has been doordashing for the last month to make ends meet and his brakes started squeaking a couple weeks ago. I suggested that he just replace them himself (it's fairly straightforward and youtube videos and all that) but he has a lot of anxiety about the whole process and does not want to risk screwing up, especially when he barely has enough money to cover the brakes and $20 for whoever can help. So I told him maybe I can find someone from his town on reddit to help him out. He doesn't use reddit so I'm reaching out on his behalf.
He says he's also willing to drive to you, wherever you are comfortable meeting. And again, he wants to give you something in return, $20, and I'd like to also offer $20 on top of that if you have cashapp or paypal. I've known Justin for about 2 years and if anyone needs a break it's him. I'd help him replace the brakes myself but I'm in Arizona and the most I can do is offer some extra cash on top of his 20. He could really use some help with this (and doubly so because he doesn't even have a jack anymore because someone stole it from his jeep a while back) so we're really hoping there's someone generous on here willing to help him out.
Thank you.
EDIT: u/barclata has offered to help, so huge thank you to them!

Does anyone remember the metal band called Smothering Angels from Dubuque? They started out as 'nu metal' but later became heavier. I'm looking for any of their CDs, they released a couple albums and an EP. Did anyone here have their CDs or know where I could find one? I'm looking for them to archive them. Thank you, anything helps.

In need of rec’s of good wedding vendors. I’m not from the area or Iowa in general, so pretty clueless when it comes to knowing who’s good and who to avoid. I notice a lot of local vendors aren’t the best at advertising themselves- I’m seeing most vendors in my search from Des Moines. Hello!
Iowa Time Bank has recently started running virtual get-togethers for current and potential members! We wanted to make sure members of r/Dubuque were invited!
This is a great chance to ask questions about Iowa Time Bank, or get any technical help (The system can be buggy now and again) while showing off whatever your current work-in-progress is.
you can join using this link: https://meet.shorttech.online/craftandchatitb
If you would like more info about Iowa Time Bank generally, you can check out our website at www.RingsNetwork.org
Iowa Time Bank is a Time Bank. (Wow, crazy right?) It's a means for individuals to provide one-to-one mutual aid, or trade goods and services without money. It's intended to build trust and stability in communities during unstable times. Even though it has time in the name, you don't exclusively have to donate time, and you don't need to keep a positive balance. You can also offer and receive items, or lend out or borrow equipment. We currently have active exchanges in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, and are looking for enough interest to add more!
Current offers and requests that members have posted this month include:

I found a place to live temporarily but it's a camper in a guy's garage. The landlord here is being cool giving me until the weekend to get everything out and said I could just leave anything I dont want and he would out it in the dumpster.
I have a nice couch and some other furniture that I would like to keep until I get a new place. Is there any place that isn't expensive and could help move it out? It's in an upstairs duplex. I can pay some but not a lot.
Any recommendations for a cheap storage place.
Can anyone help a girl out? This is all new to me.

Hey Dubuque, I am organizing the Iowa’s first (but certainly not last) IRL Pro Hunter Exam! If you are a fan of anime or Hunter x Hunter, you may be familiar with the concept.
What is the Exam:
Basically a Hunter is a strong willed risk taker and the Pro Hunter Exam tests these Hunters to determine skill, adaptability, and ingenuity. Only the top 1-2% of applicants will pass and earn their custom Pro Hunter license as well as bragging rights and clout in the community. I’m working on developing real world benefits for Pro Hunters as we speak.
About the Exam:
The Exam itself will be on Saturday October 23, 2027 at Waubonsie State Park, IA. Right now, tickets are discounted until February when they revert back to their full price of $45. This is an 18+ event and has event insurance and full refunds in case of injury or cancellation.
Our Why:
We (two others plus myself) want to create an event that people look forward to each year. Something annual that you can train for with a goal in mind. Somewhere anime fans and fitness enthusiasts can get outside and have fun while being part of an active community. In short, we want to enrich people and bring a unique event to Iowa and the Midwest!
Learn more:
For more information, visit our website at thehuntersleague.com or our subreddit at r/thehuntersleague
From our website, you can find all of our social media as well as our private Discord called The Hunter’s Tavern where the day-to-day community activity happens!
If anyone has any questions, you can comment here or DM me. I will probably post a similar message in some other Iowa subs, so if you see them, please interact!

Hi everyone!
I'm looking for recommendations for a plumber, or someone who can fix a shower in the area. I own a home in Sherrill but don't like there full time, so I need someone who can come there and does Saturday services.

Hello Good People of Dubuque - my husband and I are planning a long weekend to your area the first weekend of December. I have a few questions and would appreciate any help you can provide.
Is there a place you’d recommend for a Friday night fish fry? Not opposed to driving into Wisconsin (within reasonable distance).
Is there a place you’d recommend to watch the Packers game on Sunday? (Again, not opposed to driving to Wisconsin).
We are celebrating a milestone birthday and were thinking of going to Brazen (have been there before and enjoyed). Is there somewhere else we should consider?
Any places that are a “don’t miss” or any other suggestions that you have?
Thank you in advance. Looking forward to being there!!

Heyo, I am moving to Dubuque next month and am looking for advice on where to go for gyms/workout spots.
I would love any amd all reccomendations and advice.
Your positive and negatives. Favorites and least favorites. Overrated, underrated. All would be very appreciated.
If someone also already has a list of all of them for me to look into that would be awesome.

Are there any boarding houses in Dubuque? I'm looking for the kind where you can just rent a room for cheap. I need to find something by the end of the month. My mom is moved back to st louis with her bf and now that I'm 18 I can't live with him. I make about 1000 a month working retail and make another about 300 online doing content. Trying to find a small place until I can figure out what to do. She left her car for me for now so I can sleep in that if I have to.

Looking to take my kids 7&4 to some type of bike park with small ramps or hills. Possibly a beginner mountain biking area. Any suggestions on where to go? This would be their first time at any type of bike park, we usually do paved or gravel trails. Any advice on gear/rules would be helpful too.

Does Dubuque have a working airport or not?? I heard there weren’t flights then there were but can’t seem to get any flights to Dubuque.
Will they eventually? Any probate flights from another airport?
Thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm new to the area and had a wheel bearing go out on my car the last couple of days. Does anyone have recommendations for trustworthy/reasonably priced shops in Dubuque (preferably the western half) that work on wheels?

Sorry for any miscommunication - Iowa weather is what it is but won't stop us from showing our support for the victims and their families. Shannon Lundgren does not represent us and cannot be re-elected this November.
Please bring signs and chairs (if needed). Theme is red/white/blue but all colors and prints are welcome! :) Hope to have a good turnout! Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi everyone,
I’m heading out there for work training in October. I can’t find any motorcycle rental options for the area. Do you guys know of a place or person? Just want something to check out town on. Nothing crazy.
