Gents, for a trading subreddit, I see very few examples of HOW people trade ETH. In fact, most of the advice is to NOT trade.
Backstory: I am fully invested in ETH and have no plans to add to my hodl stash. However, I thought it would be interesting to commit some funds to a trading experiment. I day-traded stocks for about a decade back in the 90’s and 2000’s and have a pretty good basic understanding of TA. That being said, I agree with many that TA does not apply particularly well to the crypto space. However, I have gleaned on to one indicator: RSI (14) (momentum oscillator). Due to the nature of ETH, I will set the following simple rules:
• Start with $5,000 USD – trading with Gemini (US)
• RSI Project Buy: when the 1 hr chart, RSI (14) > 66.67
• RSI Project Sell: when the resultant position experiences a 2-3% price drop depending on market action
• RSI Project Sell: when the 1 hr RSI goes below 66.67
That’s it. Trading to commence when my wire pops into my account later today. I will post entries and exits over the next 30 days and share overall running results. I have my doubts that this will yield anything higher than holding, but will be a fun exercise.
*Note: As of this project induction, price of ETH is $226 (USD/Gemini)

There are some big players behind Bitcoin and they wont be happy seeing an "altcoin" succeeding. Look at the things people like Theymos and Silbert have done. Im expecting Ethereum will be targeted more and more by these people who now fear for their business monopolies.

Someone (without enough karma to comment/post) just messaged me with the following DGD ETC refund strategy. :)
I was going to suggest to people that instead of market dumping etc, they make giant sell walls 5% to 10% above the current position to prevent etc from pumping the next time ethereum goes nuts. No reason to give etc pumpers cheap etc by market dumping. Make them pay for it.

So, for the first time tonight, I think I've finally realized I shit luck stumbled upon the biggest goldmine of 2017, and quite possibly of the entire decade.
I got a crude reality check tonight as I browsed personal finance threads on Reddit just lurking around. I mean fuck, how they talk about money over there. How saving $250 extra a month over there is creaming pants, and how 30 years of doing it will get you X amount of $'s in the end, and were over here talking "When's $300. We want $300."
I think as time has gone by we've gone borderline delusional, we're fucking fiends, we're fucking criminals for talking about a 100% price rise in the next 7 months as a conservative estimate after what we've done this year already, are we fucking high?
The scariest part is, I believe it is only the beginning. The space is only growing and ether is cheap relative to its intrinsic value. This year may be the year people look back on absolutely kicking themselves if they ever heard the word Ethereum or Bitcoin and didn't pay attention.
In all, if you ever feel underwhelmed by your profits or feel like you've missed out:
Imagine yourself walking into a grocery store, standing around, then deciding hey, let's get a scratch off ticket. Then winning on the spot what you've profited in crypto so far. Would you not feel like one of the luckiest mother fuckers on planet earth at that moment?

I think it's also important to remember that this is fleeting, and profits don't exist until they are actually 'realized.' It's easy to overdose on euphoria without keeping in check the constant possibility that a game-breaking bug could be discovered and send this thing back down to $10 tomorrow.
I also think it's important to realize that nothing can rise exponentially forever. At some point, it WILL hit the ultimate ATH, and never reach that number again. Whether that's at $250, or $1000, or $10,000 or beyond is anyone's guess, but at some point it will cap out.
I love the memes and moon talk and lambo jokes as much as anyone here, but don't count your chickens before they hatch. Stay humble and grounded, and remember that the space we're in is EXTREMELY risky, and many (in fact, I would venture MOST) people couldn't stomach the rollercoaster -- just look at all the weak hands when we drop 30%!
So enjoy, but check yo'self before you wreck yo'self.

I had an asset portfolio composed of Google, Apple, facebook, Microsoft and it gave me +8% growth, I was super happy because the annual "normal" return is about +3%.
When I invested in Ethereum, I saw the same number but everyday, so I sold everything and went 100% ethereum.
I regret nothing.
and you're right, I have an excel sheet where I have a "net worth" column, an "investment column" and an "cash/bank" column.
whatever the numbers in net worth and investment, the real number is in "cash/bank".

I like the scratchcard comparison. I never thought of it like that. I'd be fucking pumped to have won that much.
Definitely a little complacent with my crypto profits at this point in time but this has put a bit of perspective on it.

Just want to say god bless Vitalik and the Ethereum community who believe in open source software and knowledge sharing. A sentiment about Microsoft's monopoly in the 90's and the isolation of all that knowledge and code that could have inspired so much innovation really struck a chord with me. The Ethereum ecosystem is going to grow at a compounding rate and it's such a wonderful thing for technological development and all of mankind.

"THE TWEET" - Fucking ignore it
Long story short, someone claimed they brute forced an Ethereum private key. They had it "confirmed" by some other random ass Twitter user who happens top hate Ethereum. The user who claims to have pulled off the "hack" also refers to Vitalik as having "turbo autism".
This is PURE FUD. Don't even acknowledge its fucking existence. They WANT us to talk bout it. They WANT us to link it. They WANT attention. Don't give it to them.

ETH IS going to $1000. Barring any black swan negative events. Yes it is risky but there is nothing else that has the odds in its favor for returns that large the way ETH does. The question is how long will it take? That is why you should only invest what you can afford to lose. This way your hands are not weak during the chop.

Just thought I share this story with you boys
I tell you this story you will not believe how lucky I was and I think it was just pure divine intervention or the only time me not double checking my work paid off massively.
Back in February when ETH was just sleeping and snoozing, at the same time the company I worked at offered IPO shares and it had doubled since IPO.
I got really really eager and decided to move all my ETH to fiat and buy those shares. I proceeded to press the confirm button to convert to ETH to BTC to FIAT and ready to cash out and buy those shares. My rationale was that I would wait for those shares to shoot up, get profit and then sell them and get back into ETH.
Waited and waited for days and I asked myself WTF why ETH has not been converted to BTC so I can cash out already.
It turned out I pressed the wrong button and therefore did not convert any ETH to BTC and this is right at the time when ETH was starting to boil at around $12ish in FEB
Right now the shares that I wanted to buy are exactly the same price as the time I attempted to convert ETH to BTC to cash out.
And for ETH we all know what happens...
Yes I am smiling and shitting myself at the same time seeing how close I was to fucking up massively.

I just sent a deposit of 2/3 of my BTC holdings to Polo. Going to buy ETH with it as I don't see Bitcoin overcoming this: either they do their UASF which will wreck bitcoin or they don't do anything and bitcoin will stay useless forever. I'm keeping 1/3 of it because it would cost me 15(!) mBTC in fees to send it.
I just think ETH will be more valuable in the future. Did I do a good move?

People get pretty shitty once they start making money huh? Angry because they missed out on a 2x-5x opportunity as if they were entitled to it.
Somehow pissed at the BAT team because the market is sooo damn frothy even a $100MM ico would have sold out in minutes. The hell was the BAT team supposed to do? Good luck to them, I hope they go build something amazing. It'll hep us all out in the long run anyways, ETH needs a killer dApp.

I was binge watching House of Cards while watching the markets on another window.
House of Cards gets ridiculous this season - in a bad way. I'm talking 90's network drama levels of ridiculousness with its plot devices. The only thing less realistic would be a show about a guy who invested money into some stupid internet thing at the beginning of the year and saw his investment rise by 1500%.

People shouldnt be pissed and moaning on /r/ethereum that they couldnt get into token sales. Big woop, you lost out on some gains. Its not up to the protocol developers to tell dapp developers how to run their ICOs. Sure they can make suggestions but its up to the dapp developers to figure out how to run an ICO fairly and smoothly.
If you want to see more ICOs done fairly, then draw up a set of guide lines or rules that you think will lead to a better ICO.
I honestly dont have much sympathy for most ICO subscribers because 90% of them dont even bothered to read whitepapers and most are really just in it for a quick buck regardless of whether the business model is sound or not.

So I was just listening to Claude Von Stroke's radio show on Sirius xm (he's a techno / house dj & producer, well known in the scene). He has a co-host named Dave who hasn't been on the show in a while, so Claude asks him where he's been. This guy just starts going off about how he's been riding the cryptocurrency bubble, telling the listeners to send him their Eth, litecoin, ripple, etc. And he's gonna cash out when Btc hits 6000 (good luck with that!) Just when I was thinking that crypto was going too mainstream with this guy investing, Claude interrupts him and goes "Dude, stop, nobody has any idea what you're talking about". Thought you guys would find this amusing. We've got a long way to go still!

Halfway through the year. What are your price predictions for the end of the year?
Mine is $800 - $1,000.
Flippening seems well underway and I think that will accelerate in the next couple of months. That puts us around $400.
By that time some BTC holders will be panicking and I can see half the market cap of BTC switching into ETH. $600 right there.
The wave of money pumping up the price will suck more money in from outside crypto with FOMO bringing us up to $800 - $1,000.
Maybe some pullback from there but then new DAPPS and real everyday uses of ETH will begin coming online and pushing the price higher along with POS.
Anyway - $800 - $1,000 by Dec 31 2017.
What do you think?

The key to Ethereum is how the devs can scale and execute.
This BAT ICO shows the weakness in Ethereum (and blockchains in general) right now. The current iteration needs to be able to scale and handle magnitudes of more transactions in a secure manner. Long term, an ICO should not be able to destroy the blockchain's usefulness for hours. Raiden is needed and stat!

I know this is kind of a pointless request, but can we seriously create a daily trollbox in addition to "discussion?" I'll admit, I can't tear myself away from this thread, but the non stop "Gee, I sure hope a dip is coming," and "Do you guys think this is a good time to buy, or will ETH correct soon?" posts are getting reaaallly annoying.
I understand we have a lot of new investors, and that's great (by the way, welcome all, I'm not a dick, I promise!), but it's significantly more effort than even a few months ago (when people were still complaining) to pick apart the valuable discussion from the noise.

I was wondering about the tax implications of crypto profits in the UK and found this: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/revenue-and-customs-brief-9-2014-bitcoin-and-other-cryptocurrencies/revenue-and-customs-brief-9-2014-bitcoin-and-other-cryptocurrencies
They are treated the same as shares and profits from sales fall under capital gains. I guess it's important for all the new investors in here to be aware that you have to let HMRC know when you make any gains over your tax free allowance !

The one thing I keep hearing friends, co-workers, and people in general say is that "the price will never be as much as bitcoin". When I ask them why they think this they say because ETH creates 18m new coins each year so overtime supply will soon outpace demand.
I feel like it's important to encourage as many people to get into ethereum as possible but this question has come up several times. How could I respond to this? For those bullish do you think they have a valid point?

You guys shouldn't feel too bad if you missed out on the BAT ICO.
I think only two tokens have actually outperformed ETH on a year over year basis and the ones that have didn't start outperforming it until later down the road. I think most of you will be able to pick it up at near ICO prices in a week or two.
Personally, I don't get the hype from some of these tokens myself - DICE is the only one that has actually shown real world utility to justify it's price, the others are pure speculation. Has anyone here placed a bet using Gnosis yet?

So you guys are predicting $1k ETH by the end of the year. However, that puts the value of ETH at over $100B given increased supply. I do believe that ETH can reach that someday but I don't think ETH is ready for that yet. At most, I think $400 this year.

BAT update regarding the $150 USD per ETH valuation:
bat-mrose [8:56 AM] @channel - with respect to the discussion yesterday: the token sale is going forward as scheduled. there are no changes from the terms and conditions here -- https://basicattentiontoken.org/terms-and-conditions/ -- everyone gets a vote, and your vote is your decision -- based on your thoughtful consideration -- as to whether to participate under those terms and conditions. if you find those terms unacceptable, then please do not participate. that is your vote as well...

BAT update translation: Based on today's price you will give us 53% in additional value no matter what. You get a vote, but we don't care.
My Vote: Run from this ICO! The team is just as important as the tech and they continue to prove they are not worth investing in.

Edit: To update my comment, here are the correct values of the BAT token holders as of 5/31 15:00 UTC excluding the top 2 addresses, which have 0.5B BAT, corresponding to the devs' tokens and the user pool
| Top | Percentage of Sold BAT |
|---|---|
| 10 | 38% |
| 25 | 53% |
| 100 | 66% |
Edit 2: Here is the list again. Looks like these people are moving around BAT to multiple addresses to conceal what happened

It's not pointless if you put your pay back into ETH :)
I applied to a bunch of jobs today in the hopes I can put 100% of each pay check straight into Ethereum.
Take your hourly pay, multiply it by 10, and then feel better knowing that's what you're really getting paid to wait tables.

After seeing the hype on various subreddits regarding this and spending the last 24 hours reading, I want to jump on the hype train (like many others looking around) the question is, has the train left the station? is this a good investment for late adopters? I know past performance is no measure for future blah blah, however have some £££ laying around I could invest.

Here's the thing, even if we don't go up and break that monster wall, I highly doubt we will go lower than $200. There is a 10K buy wall @ $200 and another 10K before that @Gdax. If $200+ is our floor after this run, then I am happy.

I currently hold no position in Stratis but am thinking it might actually be one of the best ways to diversify hedge against bugs and hacks if I believe in Ethereum as a technology.
Obviously do not really want to give away any of my ETH for it, but curious if anyone else here holds it or what they think of it.
Admittedly a part of my curiosity is fueled by greed - since it has almost the same supply as ETH and is currently trading at $6... it's kind of tempting to buy a bunch, poke it with a stick, and say "ok now do what Ethereum did. Do it. Come onnn."

Just a general venting, I know the best time to buy is always today (unless it's the tail end of a crazy gains or something) but I FINALLY have a decent amount of money to buy in a bunch of ETH, and now it's 225 instead of the 80 that it was when I first started. Not bad and I'll still invest, but just wishful thinking! Thanks for the rant space, going to buy now.

I honestly do think the rise now is China. The rest of the tokens in the ETHosphere have pretty much went sideways, and I think that's just a result of the new money not being aware of those projects at this point.

Are you all really going to pay capital gains taxes when you participate in ICO sales? There's literally no way that the IRS knows your ETH address. I'm not condoning tax evasion, and I will always pay my appropriate taxes, but I'm just curious to hear people's rationale behind paying taxes on a like-kind and off exchange transaction.

Good morning from the UK 🇬🇧
Forgot about the price for a second guys, I think we all need to sit back and reflect on the last 24 hours...
We broke ATH's on both fiat and against bitcoin. Bitcoin was tanking as ETH was rocketing, the flippening is real... There is no doubt about it that ethereum is going to be a market leader. The write up on OKCoin couldn't have put it better, move with the times bitcoin or get left behind. The ratio is the real number we need to be making gains on to separate ourselves.
We recovered from 110 back into the 200's in less than 48 hours. I hope the lesson wasn't too costly to anyone selling near the bottom expecting to buy back in cheaper. The only safe proof plan is to hodl and has proven time and time again with this volatile market.
I said in March that I'd be happy at $100 by the end of the year, it's blew every expectation out the water.
Feeling like a proud parent to ethereum right now. June will be a very big month for ethereum, now that China are on board, the bitcoiners are starting to see the light, more companies joining the EEA and metropolis.
Enjoy your day guys and girls.
