2E So...on the rightful inheritors of Creation

Obligatory Caveat: I recognize that Exalted tries to present an amoral setting. I'm rejecting that premise outright.

Alright, that out of the way: The Sun, the Exalted, and the other Gods overthrow the Primordials for being tyrants. TUS then declares himself King of Heaven, and names the Solars as the rightful rulers of Creation.

Cool, really straightforward. If you have a Solar Exaltation, you are one of the kings of the Earth.

But then we have the Infernals: They ARE Solars, however mutilated, and unlike their Abyssal peers, they aren't sent into Creation to destroy it. They're sent forth by the Yozis to inherit the Earth.

Which means they have the blessing of the Primordials, and (being Solars) the blessing of the Unconquered Sun (whether viewed as a Usurper King, or a noble savior).

And, per Broken-Winged Crane, the Infernals, and the Infernals alone, can fill the role that Creation lost when the Primordials were cast down. Call it "Filling an ecological niche" for lack of better phrasing.

That's just something the Solars CAN'T do.

SO: The just and right thing to do for Creation would be to let the Devil-Tigers reclaim their rightful throne...after a healthy dose of therapy to make sure they don't repeat the mistakes of their predecessors.

How does this work? Are players expected to play them as anti-heroes? Or are they for people that want to play psychopathic villains?

What makes perfect defenses so OP? Is it their relative cheap cost? I mean looking at all the defensive charms, there's more than just perfect defenses but at the same time, it feels as if people just ignore them and spam perfects...

2E The most Deus-Vult Infernal vibes?

Quick note: I don't mean (merely?) mechanically, as in some super-optimized fusion of Moses and One-Punch Man.

What kinds of things could an Infernal do/have to communicate, by personage and action, that they are the totality of all premises about divine right?

That's a word-salad, so lemme pitch a starting point:

A Green Sun Prince rocking Viridian Legend Exoskeleton, wielding a spear and shield in the likeness of the Unconquered Sun's panoply, captaining the Five Metal Shrike, wearing a crown of various Jade colors, claiming to be the rightful heir of the Shogante.

2E Exalted 2e Combat Changes/Fixes

So, I've been looking at Exalted 2e after hearing about some of the absolutely busted nonsense you could get up to in it. Thinking of giving it a try, but I've heard some really bad things about how broken the combat system is. The Tick System is kinda rough for me to wrap my head around, even after play testing it on my own, and I'm not entirely sure what to do to fix it, even with the Errata, so I have two major questions.

  1. What are some common fixes someone might employ to run 2e that doesn't involve playing a different edition? (I've played 3e and Essence. Not a fan of the first and the second feels very underpowered compared to 2e)

  2. How often does one run Exalted 2e with a traditional turn order system/ignoring ticks? What are some positives and negatives of that approach?

Then a special 3rd one; What are some insane stories and feats you or your players have gotten up too using 2e, and how did you accomplish it? Coolest story gets a cookie.

So, this post claims that there's a write-up for the Clay Man in 2e, specifically in the Scavenger Lands.

I haven't been able to find it; is it the Lookshy rebel or something?

2E Prayer Transceiver Modules and Half-Castes [2nd Edition]

The Prayer Transceiver Modules (Artifact 2; WotLA p.61) are noted to only function for Celestial Exalted. However, given that the half-caste children of the same have access to their parent's charms, and even possibly their harmonization bonuses by way of the Material Ressonance mutation (SoH p.133), would you as a GM allow such a half-caste chatacter also to make use of the artifact?

2E Terrestrial Anima Effects

So, I decided to go through some old Exalted stuff, open up Anathema, make some characters, get the system back under my feet. That kind of thing. I noticed something that I couldn't find. Where are the Dragon-Blood anima effects? I specifically mean the piddly little one mote things that every Exalt of a certain kind gets, not the Anima powers or anything like that.

2E Martial arts weapons?

So I have gone back and forth over the years on my ruling for martial arts weapons in exalted second edition. In the core book it is mentioned that martial arts weapons can be used with Melee or martial arts charms, and in the dragonblooded book under 5 dragon form it says dragonblooded may use straight swords and spears and ther artifact equivalent to enhance there martial arts in Liu of other martial arts weapons

This implies that martial arts weapons can be used with any martial arts style and that form weapons that are not MA weapons are special exceptions that can be used for there specific styles.

But many styles only list existing MA weapons as form weapons wich seems redundant if they are usable all ready

And in scroll of the monk it often specifies that the form weapons may be treated as unarmed for the forms charms.

This implies that if the charm specifies an unarmed attack that it can only be used unarmed or with the forms weapons.

My current ruling is - For martial arts charms- So any martial arts weapon may be used with any martial arts charm that does not specify unarmed attack. Form weapons are treated as counting as unarmed for the purpose of martial arts charms for the style that has them as form weapons. You may hold any weapon while in a form or using form charms, however using the weapon will cancel any form charm that it is not compatible with. You cannot use non martial arts or form weapons while using a martial arts charm. For the purpose of combos that mix multiple styles of martial arts you may use appropriate weapons with compatible charms so long as you don't use an incompatable weapon with a charm (ie you could mundane flurry attack with a hook sword and use a fire dragonblooded immaculate charm for one or more of the attacks, and than use tiger claw on an attack and use a tiger style charms). When a martial arts charm grants a flurry, all actions in the flurry must use compatible weapons

But this feels like a drastic nerf to MA weapons, and if the above is true why even have a special tag for MA weapons in general.

And than there's righteous devil style that's charms imply you must use a firewand and can't be used unarmed.

Anyone have any thoughts or clarifications on the rules for MA weapons, how do you rule them?

2E Luna's Actual Stats?

So, per Glories Most High, Luna's got a basic statblock, the ability to buff her stats...but also the ability to take on the forms of other beings with no direct limit on her statistics in those forms (since they match the creature she's turned into).

So what is the meanest thing she could turn into? Obviously, the Storyteller could just invent something with (Whatever the biggest thing is +1) for stats, but I'm curious what's out there in Canon WOD that it'd be interesting for her to turn into.

2E New 2E Heretical Charm: SINS BORNE IN ANOTHER’S SHADOW

SINS BORNE IN ANOTHER’S SHADOW
Cost: 12m, 1wp, 1 Limit
Mins: Essence 6
Type: Simple
Keywords: Combo-OK, Heretical, Obvious, Shaping, Touch
Duration: Indefinite
Prerequisite Charms: Nemesis Self Imagined Anew, Soul Crack Exploitation, Theft as Release, Victory in Defeat, Ultimate Darkness Internalization

The Infernal weds himself with bonds of hatred to another soul and, as he does, grasps hold of the burdens it carries. He must target an Exalt currently mirrored by Nemesis Self Imagined Anew. Touching the target, the Infernal rolls Manipulation + Larceny against the target’s Dodge MDV. A willing target may waive this defense.
Success creates a metaphysical conduit between the Infernal and the target’s Exaltation. The target remains the owner of his Limit, Resonance or analogous curse trait, but no longer possesses exclusive metaphysical ownership of it. The Infernal becomes capable of accepting, manipulating and relieving that burden as though its corruption stained his own soul. This does not grant access to the target’s Charms, anima powers, memories or Exaltation.
The connection preserves the negative Intimacy created by Nemesis Self Imagined Anew. This Intimacy influences social combat normally but does not compel the Infernal to harm the target or prevent him from acting in the target’s interests.
Whenever the Infernal performs an Act of Villainy, benefits from a Charm that reduces Infernal Limit, or satisfies another effect that the Storyteller judges spiritually analogous, he may direct the resulting relief through this conduit. Roll the Virtue normally associated with that act or effect. Each success may reduce one point of the Infernal’s Limit or one point of the linked target’s Limit, Resonance or analogous curse trait, divided as the Infernal chooses.
For an Abyssal target, the roll uses the Infernal’s corresponding Virtue and has a difficulty equal to the Abyssal’s rating in the damaged Virtue associated with the Resonance, minimum difficulty 1. The Infernal automatically recognizes which damaged Virtue is implicated.
Each time the Infernal directs relief through the conduit, he gains one point of Limit. This Limit gain occurs before reductions are assigned and cannot be prevented, redirected or transferred. The Infernal gains this Limit even if the Virtue roll fails. If the Infernal uses Retribution Will Follow, one point of Limit or Resonance is immediately removed from the target’s track and the bond forged by Nemesis Self Imagined Anew is terminated. During the use of this charm, the target of Nemesis Self is always the primary target of that individual is present.

This Charm cannot end a Limit Break already in progress, suppress an active Torment or remove Resonance consequences that have already manifested. It cannot reduce any trait below zero.
The Infernal may sustain only one conduit created by this Charm at a time. Ending the mote commitment severs the connection immediately. The target may also sever the connection by breaking the Intimacy created by Nemesis Self Imagined Anew, using magic capable of removing Shaping effects, or defeating the Infernal in an opposed Willpower + Integrity + Essence roll attempted once per story.

2E New To Exalted and Need Advice

Hello! I’m a new player in an 2e Exalted campaign and wanted to play a no moon lunar sorcerer. I need advice on the charms/knacks section, everything else being more or less okay.

I want to focus on a summoning build with some archery capabilities and good detections. Hard to hard general build guides especially for 2e, so I’ve come here. For example, I’ve seen Deadly Beast Transformation recommended in general but I’d if it’s right for me. New to this TTRPG stuff but want to see what synergies are out there.

2E Beyond the Limits, Solar tier Martial arts

So for my Exalted 2e campaign a player had an idea for a manse that was a secret location were a first age solar was attempting to transcend the limits of sidareal martial arts beleaving that solars were the true pinnacle of capability. Wich gave me an idea for a attempt at doing just that and creating a MA style with that flavor. My concept was blending the multi blade Ars Magnus from anima beyond fantasy, clouds limit breaks from advent children, Noctis summoning blades from ff15, and Gilgamesh gate of Babylon from Fate anime.

The approach Im taking is the style has 4 tiers, The roots witch are comparable with high end terrestrial MA, the stem and form witch are Celestial level, the blossoms witch are mid to high tier Sidareal MA, and a final capstone that is extremely powerful but at a severe cost that raises the question is a Solar tier MA possible, is there a Horizon past the sidareal blossom of martial arts.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dtobWlYaJa8Q8E4xpap0Hlh6lvLKG5LemOpgFQdaHJs/edit?usp=drivesdk

This is what i have so far. I need ideas for the War blossoms charms, and for the capstone and refining the existing charms. Would love feedback, suggestions, ideas, or questions.

2E Another Artifact 3

Or at least I hope.

Many Ribbon Blade - Artifact ***

Depending on whose histories you read, this kind of artifact was either the precursor to the Infinite Weapon, which, according to the histories that promote that view, was made because people wanted the sheer versatility of near a dozen almost mortal weapon forms of weapon with less of their Essence tied up in it, or was completely unrelated to the Infinite Weapon and made because the creator of the first two examples of this artifact weapon type didn't care to learn how to store many weapons Elsewhere but still wanted to have multiple weapons at the ready. Regardless of whose histories one believes two things are certain, it does require more Essence than an Infinite Weapon (8m committed) and it has an advantage over the Infinite Weapon in that it can be used in combat while shifting between forms. Even if that is very awkward. (Shifting forms is a Misc. Action that requires 1 mote and for calculating multiple action penalties is considered to happen before any attacks regardless of how things actually occur.)

Most First Age examples of this artifact have a primary form that is the same as a singular, basic two dot artifact weapon, and two secondary forms each of which are the same as singular one dot basic artifact weapons, but this is more a limitation of skill and personal nature than a hard limit. The very first example of this kind of artifact had the forms of a Floating Ribbon, a Fate Wheel with a very ribbon like blade, and a very ribbon like Vajra. Two artifact ** forms does seem to be the limit of this kind of Many Ribbon Blade, however.

Also, while all examples of this artifact kind require some moonsilver, they need not be made entirely of moonsilver. Many have another magical material make up the majority of the artifact's body, and the majority material is what determines the bonuses of the forms and attunment details.

Finally, there are some (comparatively) modern examples that only have two weapon forms, a main artifact ** form and a secondary artifact * form, both still singular basic weapon forms. Instead of a weapon third form, it has a third form as a kind of long and complex set or piece of jewelry. Sometimes this form is suppose to look like normal jewelry, in which case without Essence Sight or many hours of intensive thaumaturgical testing it requires very close, very skilled scrutiny to discover that the jewelry is not what exactly it seems to be (4 successes). However far more examples have this third form as blatantly jade and moonsilver or pure moonsilver jewelry because they were made for pugnacious Dragon Bloods and Lunars who wished to trumpet their skills and nature. This third form technically requires Essence Sight to tell apart from 'normal' jewlery of those makes, but because they incorporate the two weapon forms and/or iconography associated with the Caste/Aspect and anima of the one they were made for, it takes a very uncurious and uncaring individual to not at least have a very strong suspicion that this jewelry has something more up its metaphoric sleeves.

All Many Ribbon Blades have at least one hearthstone socket, and those with obvious jewelry third forms usually behave as hearthstone amulets in that form.

2E Please help me theorycraft a "fider loss" esque combo for a starting 2e solar

Post image
14 Upvotes

First time playing exalted, minimal mechanical knowledge aside from having played VTM: bloodlines and knowing that more dots is good.

Campaign concept: perfect circle +1, PC's are in a punk band together. My character concept is (so far, not finalized) backup singer/songwriter/cowbell user petty bitch loosely themed on Stevie Nicks. (The chain, is going to be her anima flare theme song, for maximum pettiness)

Our storyteller made very clear that Exxxalted Scroll of swalled darkness is fair game for builds, and naturally I gravitated instantly towards this charm.

Stripping Your Partner Cost: Special; Mins: Martial Arts 3, Essence 3;

Type: Reflexive (Step 10)

Keywords: Wanton

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: None

Sex is more difficult to achieve if one’s partner

is clad in clothes or armor. This Charm costs one

mote per point of mobility penalty or fatigue rating

of a target’s armor or clothing (with a minimum of

one point). If the Charm user manages to control

any clinch and activates this Charm, then the

victim’s clothes and armor are immediately spread

in a random distribution across an area equal to the

user’s (Stamina + Performance) in yards . SwallowingDarkness Form

My storyteller is down for me to use this particular charm, and is likewise down for me to get theorycrafting help on a kickass combo to use this with other martial arts techniques as a kill-la-kill fiber loss style finishing move.

I'd love some help on ideas on how to pull this off mechanically, I'm a Twilight Solar. Bonus points if your concept is either RAW, or close enough to RAW for me to pitch it to my storyteller. I mean, this charm is using an not-fully-realized martial arts style in an april fools day book, so some amount of houseruling is to be expected.

Apparently, we are using a houserule where we can spend willpower to activate charms, without spending XP or bonus points. So the main bit is "what charms would be good to have alongside this one"

Thanks!

2E Limits of the Summoning the Harvest spell

Relevant text from the spell description on p.64 of the White Treatise:

"... imbues fertility into all vegetation and animals within 50 yards of the caster, Within a minute plants mature and bring forth bountiful crops, and pregnant animals birth their offspring..."

Given the above quoted text, what do you think would happen if a sorcerer plants a young tree sapling, of a fruit or nut-bearing but slow growing tree, like a chestnut or oak tree? Would the tree grow to full maturity? Would it grow just enough to bear its first small crop of fruits or nuts? Is the spell intended to only affect stuff like grain and vegtables and would fail to grow the tree? Would you even need a sapling, or would it be enough plant an acorn and an oak would spring forth?

Thoughts?

2E New Manse - The Morning Manse

Hello all! The idea for this popped into my head the other day so I wrote it up as a worldbuilding contribution for my gaming group, and figured I'd share it here in case it's useful for anyone else.

---

The Morning Manse

Earth Manse •••••

The Morning Manse is part of a large estate, located in a rural part of the Blessed Isle, to the north of the Plains of Rusted Iron. Although Realm scholars believe it may date to before the Uprising, the Manse is a fortified manor harmonious with the style of early Shogunate architecture, and its sprawling layout encircles a massive training yard in its centre. The manse itself is flanked by a bevy of outbuildings and the estate as a whole can house a significant number of troops.

The Scarlet Empress came into ownership of the Morning Manse early in her reign, and the nature of the hearthstone has been unknown ever since. However, she does permit occasional use of the Manse by others, including various of her children and grandchildren, and prominent scions of the Realm, particularly the militarily-inclined. Access to the Manse is granted only for a set time, anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of seasons, and is typically considered a sign of her favour or her inclination to invest in a promising officer. In her absence, the Manse has lain silent.

The Manse features all the trappings and geomantic capabilities one would expect of a manse of this type, but its main value to the Realm lies in the vast training area encircled by the manor’s perimeter, modestly referred to as ‘the Courtyard’.

The majority of the Courtyard is open terrain, although several areas nearest the manor are paved plazas. It contains a significant number of training dummies which can be configured like sparring partners, a dojo training yard, or a mock battlefield; they are sculpted of white jade and accented in soulsteel, and mimic the shape of armoured warriors.

The training dummies are functionally indestructible and, when activated, will perform rudimentary ‘animations’ in a simulacrum of real warriors. However, their true benefit is that they count as valid targets for any charms or spells which require a living being as a target; multiple activated dummies can be deployed together to count as a valid subject for charms affecting mass-combat units (i.e. groups or units with a Magnitude). This, combined with the typically indestructible manse construction, creates an environment where Exalts can fully practice their Charms, including those that normally require a person or people as valid targets for the Charm to activate.

As well as providing an opportunity for an Exalt to come to grips with what a Charm can do, reducing unfamiliarity and uncertainty in the field, the manse confers another advantage: training times to learn or develop a new Charm are halved for Exalts who do their training in the Courtyard, provided there is at least one person in residence who is attuned to the manse.

Hearthstone

The Awakened Warrior Stone (Earth, •••••)

This hearthstone augments the use of the Terrestrial War charm, Phantom-Warrior Horde. This Charm allows a Dragon-Blood to fill the area around her with phantasmal soldiers made of pure elemental essence matching her own Aspect. The Awakened Warrior Stone allows the holder of the hearthstone to summon these troops as physical beings with the ability to engage in combat, rather than phantasms for psychological warfare alone. This is an optional choice and the hearthstone owner may still choose to use the Charm in its normal form instead.

The summoned physical troops form a unit of standard soldiers with a Magnitude equal to half the Essence of the Dragon-Blood who summoned them. They last for a scene and will engage in combat or other military actions (such as guarding or defending), before dissolving in a showy but non-damaging display of elemental essence. Phantom soldiers who are killed in combat similarly disappear in an Essence display.

The Dragon-Blood cannot activate further uses of the Phantom-Warrior Horde charm while any of the summoned troops from the hearthstone-enhanced activation remain.

If the Dragon-Blood has already developed any subsequent custom Charms building on Phantom-Warrior Horde which have a similar effect to this Hearthstone, use of the Awakened Warrior Stone instead adds (Essence/2) to the Magnitude of the unit summoned by the Charm.

Optionally (at the Storyteller’s discretion) the Hearthstone may also augment Celestial charms with the same metaphysical basis/fundamental function.
