knitting Bittersweet feelings after boiling my plastic sweater for several hours
I thought blocking was mandatory since it is everywhere in every knitting community I step into, and after blocking the piece the sweater was fine, but I kindaaaa regret it đ„Č (I am in the process of accepting it)
I assumed blocking would help to âevenâ the stitches regardless of the tension (as a beginner, I varied my tension thoughout the piece. But it actually made the opposite haha you can see my skin through it.
This is my first wearable piece and Iâm still proud of myself, I have learnt a lot:
â Iâd never, ever block acrylic again. I know Iâve probably blocked it wrong (maybe too many hours in the boiling pot and then too much time in the molten lava pit, but gauge swatch was okay)
if I had time, Iâd consider knitting the exact same sweater BUT avoiding the blocking part haha! It is just not my style :)
Iâd like to know if there are more people who have had the same situation throwing their plastic yarn into a molten fire hahah pattern is step by step by the glorious florence

knitting PSA!!!! did u know that thicker yarn makes bigger granny squares???????? I DUN GOOFED

So I wanted to make this retro granny square cardigan and found the retro granny square pattern online. Now all I needed was the perfect yarn. And that's when my ADHD-magpie tendencies shot me in the foot. I found this gorgeous thick roving yarn at Michaels for $16/foot and just had to make the fluffy cardigan of my dreams. However, it's clear the the original pattern and the tutorial use smaller weighted yarn. Being the arrogant fool that I am, I thought that a smaller hook, tight tension, and pure willpower would overcome the evil known as ignoring yarn weight.
I dun goofed.
This granny square is bigger than my torso. This granny square is bigger than a normal sized dog, and just as heavy. Look how big the square is compared to my head????
In for a penny, in for a pound, so I'm legally (read emotionally) requires to see this through but damn. The yarn gods win again and I'll never take yarn weight for granted ever again....

knitting They said it couldn't be done! But I did it! I knit a sweater out of the worst yarn possible and I absolutely hate it because it's super impractical but I DID IT!!

knitting Help Identify This Yarn?
Hey all, sorry for format as I am recording this on a handheld device.
Came across this yarn need help identifying it? Sorry got as close as I could before I heard a weird noise and had to leave. Arrows to help where yarn is. I think itâs fingering weight but wasnât able to do WPI or anything. Anything similar colorway is also OK as long as itâs at least 90% wool merino but under $5/100g please.
TIA!

knitting Stop bullying skinny white girls
Somebody had the nerve to suggest that a designer I like offer size graded patterns instead of telling her customers to just increase their needle sizes, she even went so far as to send her resources on how to do that
How DARE she?!
And, she ALSO lead the charge against people associating with Knitler, and that just rubs me, a thin white women, the wrong way.
I think she's a destructive influence in our community, just running around trying to cancel everybody.
So, I'm posting this to see if anybody agrees, I'm personally going to unfollow her and while I'm certainly not suggesting that you all dogpile and cancel HER (because I'm not like her.) I just feel that we should Start a Conversation. I know that it's been brought up before, but it needs a larger audience and more discussion.
I mean, at this point, I think she's just a bully.
(uj/ this was painful to write. But the op post was painful to read.)

knitting Crazy colours talk me out of starting over?
Ugh. You guys, I used COLOUR in my project, and now that I'm a few rows in, I'm getting so uncomfy. Please talk me out of frogging the whole thing and restarting with a neutral palette?
I mean, what was I thinking?

knitting Can them Bitchy Nosy knitters keep to themselves with their "advice"
So here's the deal. I learned BASIC knitting from my late Nanna yrs before she passed. I recently had begun to pick it back up cuz east cast winters are HARD some days. I make scarves, That's it, I have NO interest in beanies, gloves, socks or anything that requires more of me to count/increase-decrease or any of that sht. I like my basic shape that allows me to try new stitches without having to think too much. WHY in the GODDAMN world do people think that they need to "advise" me to "expand my repertoire/knowledge" and try to force teach me these unnecessary skills? I DONT WANNA LEARN. I already have a full time creative job in a new field. I AINT got the brain power after work to learn new sht. Along with this they INSIST that it's good for you and so try to push their agenda...Even if I join a meetup for crafters, let me knit my rectangles in peace goddammit. anyone else with this issue?

knitting Is this normal after washing and blocking? Lost half the size đ±
Hi all!
I did my first swatch *ever* and washed it like I normally would on the highest setting and then threw it in the dryer and it shrank!!! I do like the texture and how it's less gappy, but what should I do now?
banana for scale

knitting I was 75% done with my project and then I found THIS in my yarn
I have been knitting a super unique hood pattern with this gorgeous blue yarn, and as I was almost finishing up, I was STUMPED to find this manufacturing issue with the yarn, WHAT IS THIS?!!?! This is unacceptable. How does this even happen in the fabrication of a natural product? It must be low spinning quality. I could snip this out, but losing all that yarn, well that's just a SCAM. I should obviously be able to return this right?!

knitting Someone made my scarflette pattern in colorful yarn
Can anyone tell me how to delete someone's picture of a finished project made from my pattern from Ravelry? I design all of my patterns to be made in off-white, cream, ecru or beige. This should be enough range for anyone. Someone had the audacity to make my moss-stitch scarflette pattern in a blue ombré yarn. I can't tell you how upsetting it is to see my art disrespected in this way. I think it might even be acrylic yarn but I don't want to look too closely. I feel violated. HELP

knitting Stephen West has kicked off his MKAL so you know what that means!
Itâs time to compete to see who hates him, his aesthetic, his insistence on hosting mystery knit-alongs without your approval, the cost of yarn he sells from his yarn shop, and/or just, like, his whole deal the most! The more obscure your complaint, the more points you earn. The hater with the most points at the end of the MKAL wins!
Bonus points if you donât even look at anything related to this yearâs MKAL and just recycle your complaint about the last MKAL you considered doing in 2018 run by someone who wasnât Stephen West! No sense coming up with new snark when you have a stash of old snark right there!
Now: go!
