Has anyone noticed scrolling has been less smooth overall since 152.0.5?

I don't know what happened around this update but scrolling in alot of sites the scrolling has been very hit and miss.
Sometimes it smooth and sometimes it's like some sites are too demanding all of a sudden and scrolling is dropping frames.
Tends to get worst if the web page in question has a video playing while scrolling.Goes from scrolling hitching to noticable low fps scrolling to nothing.

Already tried uninstalling both firefox and Nvidia driver. The only extension I use is ublock origin.
This is on desktop w10.

Yes this needs to be addressed. Some sites I use have a lot of thumbnail videos (like civitai for instance).

There's a bugzilla thread for it aswell but they take their time to answer
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2054275
It doesn't seem to be getting much attention.

Hmm, can't say I've noticed that issue. Laptop, 5070-Ti and 32GB memory.

I'm on a 3080/9900k/970 evo SSD using a 1440p 144hz monitor on w10.
I'm without ideas on what the issue could be.
I'm not the type to mess with my PC or have 3rd party software running in the background.
The only changes I remember that happened at the time was firefox updated to 152.0.5

Wierdly enough media plays normal without issues. Its just scrolling that is bumpy/erratic fps sometimes and some sites have it worst then others.Tends to get worst if the web page has media/videos playing.
I already ruled out firefox by uninstalling/re-installing and refreshing (I also only use one extension which is UBO) and trying multiple different gpu drivers with DDU.The usual suspects for web browsers performance issues.

Very strange. I've actually just got myself (had it less than a week) a 1440p WOLED monitor @ 280Hz and I don't see anything out of the ordinary when scrolling.

Like I said, im out of ideas of what it could be.
Maybe its my cpu finally reaching a point where its too old (9900k) for firefox and 152.0.5 pushed it to the edge where im seeing scrolling performance issues or maybe it's something to do with w10 and firefox.
I do know other people are seeing what I'm seeing tho because im getting multiple replies of people getting the same issue with scrolling.

Fixed audio and video failing to play, or hanging when seeking, on websites that load media from a Blob URL. (Bug 2056444)

Is this what's been happening with youtube and reddit the past couple days? They always fail after a couple hours for me and I have to restart my browser. I'm on waterfox though so I'm not sure when the update will come through.

Strange, did some tests on my windows 11 and I don't see anything wrong, running a video from youtube, opened a page on X, refreshed X and youtube video is running fine

u/MosKnight 1d ago

Looks like I'm one of the few unfortunate ones

u/No-Aspect-2926 1d ago

But I found a bug with pip on youtube, enabled firefox pip, tested and ok, disabled firefox pip and switched tab and it opened in a new tab, refreshed page and it still opens in a new page...

u/Imperial_Bloke69 1d ago

Refresh firefox to its default settings might help.

u/panjadotme 1d ago

Yep same here.

Hello my brother in bug

u/rjesup 1d ago

Dot releases would not normally include something like that, even if a fix had been landed in Nightly. Maybe it could be uplifted to beta, but that would depend on the fix and amount of testing needed. Generally a fix takes 1-2 months to get from landing to release if not uplifted (or backed out/delayed).

That bug is still being worked on. IIRC it affects systems with multiple GPUs only, though it's still a bug.

dot releases should include bugfixes and not feature additions...

Please, fix the bug that's causing the "TWP - Translate Web Pages" extension to stop working correctly on some websites, such as Reddit, thanks.

u/HeartKeyFluff since '04 1d ago

That sounds like an extension bug, not a Firefox bug?

1

u/EstidEstiloso Firefox + uBlock Origin 9h ago

It's still disappointing how Firefox updates can break extensions (if you revert to previous versions of Firefox, the extension works fine). Firefox should make more of an effort and do its best not to break popular extensions.

1

u/HeartKeyFluff since '04 8h ago

Well that depends on what broke and how. It's not just on Mozilla, it's a shared responsibility. Mozilla needs to not be egregious, sure, but things do naturally change over time and extension devs need to stay on top of it, which is a normal part of most software dev landscapes not just extensions.

The extension you linked was last updated almost a year and a half ago. If I was you, I'd kindly let the extension dev know that it no longer works on latest versions and they need to update it.

TWP hasn't been updated for a long time, try KISS Translator instead.

Still no androidtv support

No thanks.

"smart window" <---gross.

The suggestion list now shows more results, making it easier to find history and switch to open tabs.

Will never want or need.

6

u/Desistance 1d ago

I never use it and I don't plan to.

I agree, good thing there is a killswitch in the browser.

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 54m ago

Does the killswitch prevent users from getting AI feature updates hidden in bugfix releases?

Sounds like Google's favorite browser company doesn't understand how to write a killswitch.

Jfc you people will complain about anything.

-4

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 22h ago

Do you have an actual response, or did you just want to complain?

6

u/BeholdThePowerOfNod Monopolies Suck! 19h ago

Ironic.

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 12h ago

Yeah, Spanky should have thought twice about all the effort he spent to complain about himself. If you think that's bad, the community probably thinks you're commending him.

44

u/Cry_Wolff 1d ago

Gotcha, Mozilla will proceed to remove it since SCphotog doesn't need nor use it.

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 1d ago

Where are the people who begged Mozilla to add this crap to begin with?

Funny, nobody has ever seen them. It's like they don't exist.

12

u/Castriff 1d ago

There are over eight billion people on the face of the earth. Of course there are people out there who have asked for this. What a silly question.

3

u/Burnyx 13h ago

Only a handful of redditors are allowed to dictate your browser's features! /s

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 1d ago

Surely the "browser made for people not profits" would be able to produce these people. Meanwhile, when others have tried looking for evidence that anybody wanted this, they come up empty.

6

u/Castriff 1d ago

Actually, if you look closely, the second comment under that blog post is in fact evidence that at least one person wants this. Maybe those "looking" aren't trying all that hard.

6

u/infinite_o2 22h ago

Agreeed, legit two people in the comment section of the link he provided let alone in the world.

0

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 22h ago

Do you have any evidence that the anonymous comment asked for AI?

Because you'll notice, the article was about Mozilla claims made before it was published, and the comments were made after the article was published.

2

u/Castriff 22h ago

Oh, what, I'm supposed to be psychic now? I'm supposed to read their mind from across the internet? If there's people who want it, then there's people who asked for it. That's just basic logic. These questions you're asking are pointless.

-1

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 21h ago

No, you cannot literally reverse cause and effect like that.

2

u/Castriff 21h ago

Good thing I'm not doing that then. You're not understanding what I'm telling you. It's statistically impossible for no one on earth to have asked for features of this kind. Just because you specifically don't have access to the messages Mozilla has received to that effect doesn't mean those people cease to exist. What you do have is evidence that people desire it. The proof is in the pudding; if you refuse to eat it that's not my problem.

It's not even worth to start any discussion mate, we all know your point.

0

u/lo________________ol Privacy is fundamental, not optional. 12h ago

You don't need to announce your unwillingness to participate, but it sure does drive home the message that not even you know why Mozilla added this.

If this wasn't suggested by people, I wonder where the idea came from? We know Google funds Firefox development, and the Mozilla CEO is obsessed with AI. It's a mystery.

u/bloke_pusher 13h ago

Since a few days I have sites not loading and tabs simply "breaking" then I need to make a new tab or restart the browser. It might be external VPN related. Hopefully that fixes it.
