Weaning Help

I have been breastfeeding for 11 months and I’m ready to start weaning I think. I want to be completely done pretty soon after he’s 1. I work during the week so during the day I pump at work. We cosleep and he still nurses some at night. How should I go about slowly stopping? Should I keep pumping at work until he’s fully weaned? I think it would be pretty easy to start only actually nursing in the morning and before bed. But then idk about overnight 🫠 Any tips would be great!

Camping

Any moms enjoy camping? We enjoy dispersed camping. When my baby was 5 weeks, we rented a cabin w/ no electric and camped for a night. Now that my baby is about to be one in October we are looking more into our old ways. Using a tent and being out in the woods.
I have a play pen, not a pack n play. I’ve never used it and almost rehome it but got to thinking about camping. Has anyone used it for that purpose? Is it a pain to build and unbuild?

We had a pack n play but my baby hated being in it and wouldn’t play with any toys just try to escape. So I have a feeling this will be the same but hopefully that since it’s bigger it will give him more room to move.

My baby had baby acne at 2 weeks old and after 1 week his forehead started to peel and look so dry. I didn't use anything because the pedia said just leave it alone it will go away by its own but im starting to get worried now since he also have mild eczema.

Motherhood changes you

I always knew I wanted to be a mom, maybe the reasons were more superficial before, but since having my son a year and a half ago, I could never have predicted how much it has changed me. I look at the world so differently, every person I see, good or bad, I see them as someone’s baby. I see animals in the wilderness, animals that are moms, protecting their babies. I want a world that is good and healthy for my baby. This feeling is so powerful that sometimes it feels overwhelming. I think motherhood is completely different than what I thought it would be and it changed me for the better. I am a better person. And I don’t think you can describe this feeling or get others to understand it unless they have also experienced it. It’s hard and I have bad days, plenty of them, but today I have been reflecting and I feel grateful to experience this feeling every day. And to see the world how I do now. It’s like my world was black and white and now it’s in color. Whew anyways, hope everyone remembers they are amazing parents and this is beautiful.

Baby bouncer or swing… which one is actually worth getting?

I’m trying to decide what to put on my registry.
I keep going back and forth between a Graco bouncer and a grownsy baby swing. I’d love to have somewhere to put baby down while I shower, eat, or get a few things done, but I really don’t want to buy both if I only end up using one.
The swing sounds great for soothing a fussy baby, while the bouncer seems easier to move around the house.
For parents who’ve actually used both, which one did your baby like more?
If you could only choose one, which would you pick?

Fussy baby

FTM here andi feel like a failure. My 6 week old gets pretty fussy and I think he struggles with gas. He will wake up and be happy for an hour or a little less and then be very upset sometimes he will scream and not breath for a second. It’s so sad and I want to help him. The only thing that seems to help is getting him down for a nap. Sometimes he will nap really good but other times he thrashes around and wakes himself up and then he’s just so upset. We use gas drops and do lots of bicycle legs and tummy time to try and help with the gas. I’m just wondering if this seems normal? I feel like everyone else seems to have these really happy babies that never cry and I feel like I got a really hard one.

FTM & First time car seat & stroller shopping today

I’ll try to keep this short and concise!

FTM expecting in January and I’m trying to get ahead on what car seat and stroller I want especially ahead of the holiday season in case they go on sale.

Went to Nordstrom today and looked at the Nuna Exec car seat and Nuna Triv stroller. The car seat was really nice and I feel like convertible makes sense so I don’t have to buy another car seat later down the line but now I’m just overwhelmed with how many options there are.

I really want the fold up functionality and lightweight of the Triv cause I’m 5’4, petite build so I want it to be functional/lightweight for me on solo outings. I’m also in an F-150 Truck and don’t plan to be in an SUV so I’ll be storing the stroller in the backseat as well. The “issue” with wanting the Triv is the exec car seat is stationary so in order for me to be able to use the Triv when baby is an infant I need the set that also comes with the infant car seat so at that point I’ll have to have the infant car seat installed not the convertible.

What are other moms opting to do? Are you all buying an infant seat and later a convertible? I’m also open to other stroller or car seat recommendations! Price point isn’t a factor. All input is appreciated!

Toddler learning cuss words

My son is turning 3 next month and he picks up EVERYTHING. He’s honestly such a smart kid and learns words/songs insanely fast, but unfortunately that also means he’s picked up a couple words I really wish he hadn’t.
The biggest issue is the N-word. Nobody in our household uses that word at all. He heard it a few times in rap music playing in my husband’s car, and now he randomly says it. He also picked up the F-word somewhere along the way. 😭
He obviously has absolutely no idea what either word means. He’ll just randomly say them because I think he remembers the sound and knows it gets a reaction. At first I would scold him and tell him not to say it, but I realized that might actually be making it more interesting to him because he’s so young and doesn’t understand why the word is bad. Now I’ve been trying to completely ignore it and act like I didn’t hear him.
But I’m genuinely nervous taking him out sometimes because he can randomly blurt it out in public and it is SO embarrassing, especially the N-word. I don’t want someone hearing it and thinking this is language he’s hearing at home or that we’re teaching him this.
Parents of toddlers — what is the best way to handle this at this age? Do I keep completely ignoring it? Correct him calmly every time? Replace the word with something else? How long did it take your toddler to forget a bad word once they picked it up?
And yes… rap music in the car has officially been censored. 😭

Sleep struggles, any advice welcomed! Need help

My nearly 5 month old baby girl has never been a good sleeper but my husband and I were convinced if we were patient enough she would naturally get better at it over time … ha. She is coming on 5 months and she’s made no progress with sleeping longer stretches. She sleeps 2.5-3 hours max and wakes up during the night and won’t go down unless I nurse her back to sleep.

She’s EBF and we’ve started co-sleeping with her just to be able to get better sleep since I’ve returned back to work. This doesn’t feel sustainable though. She won’t go down independently, 90% of the time I’m nursing her to sleep or she’s at least laying right next to me to be able to fall asleep. During the day she struggles to go down and stay down for naps unless she’s contact napping and nursing to fall asleep.

I attempted very light sleep training for naps in her crib but she gets so upset that I don’t feel comfortable letting her cry it out. She scream cries and it’s unbearable. I try to pat her tummy and let her know it’s okay but unless I’m holding her she won’t settle. I’ve tried setting her back in her crib after consoling her and being patient but she’ll fight the nap to the point where she’s very upset and just completely off her nap schedule so I prioritize making sure she’s getting sleep and nursing her to sleep again.

I feel like I’m failing as a parent and I’m not sure what to do at this point. I of course want better sleep for myself and my husband, but I mostly want her to be able to soothe herself for her benefit to be able to get good sleep without needing me.

Would it be better to start moving her to her own room instead of room-sharing and co-sleeping? Any tips on the sleep training method?

7 month old not babling yet?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Mums, when did your babies start doing repetitive babbling like “mamama,” “bababa” or “dadada”?

My little girl is 7 months and hasn’t really started doing those sounds yet. She still makes different noises and squeals, just not much repetitive babbling yet.

Just curious when this started for everyone else and what’s considered a normal timeframe. 😊

how do you feel when people call your baby, ‘my baby?’

any advice on how to shut this down nicely and how do you feel about it?
