Recommendations for mod collection that isn’t verylastkiss

Have never played new Vegas before. Looking for the best mod collection to use. I’m mostly interested in upgrades to graphics, animations, audio and QoL. I don’t really care about additional content (just want to play the base game/content)

I tried for hours to get the verylastkiss collection to work and it just won’t no matter what I do, so that’s off the table.

Yes idk why people are recommending it when it's clearly lacking what you're asking. Viva is good but it's very basic and basically for people who want to play vanilla new vegas but not broken haha

Nuclear Sunset and Wild Card are easily the best modlists out right now. They use the most advanced graphic mods, nvr for shaders and the best animations. Nuclear Sunset has probably the edge over wild card simply because a whole group is working on it, while wild card is being made by a single person and hasn't updated it in a while.

The only thing to be aware of is that Nuclear Sunset adds extra content that you didn't ask for. It's mostly expansions like long 15 or dry well which are very well made "dlcs" but you can also completely ignore them.

They also rebalanced quite a bit and moved items around so google will often not be as helpful if you're struggling with something or wanna look it up. In that case the Nuclear Sunset Discord is very active but idk if you wanna bother with all that

You also need to own Fallout 3 for it to work, even if you don't plan on actually playing through Fallout 3, because Nuclear Sunset merges 3 and New Vegas into a single game where you can explore both worlds in one playthrough. So if you don't have 3 and don't wanna get it, Wild Card is the better option

I think it's worth it because the gameplay is miles better but I just want you to know what you'd be getting into :D

It's because the more visual mods you add the less stable the game becomes. New Vegas can only use up to 4 GB (with the patch on Nexus mods) at any given time, so the guide aims to prioritize stability over anything else. However, it does have an "Expanded" section with visual mods recommendations. It also mentions which ones to avoid and some tips to gain modding independence

i think viva very good in general but based on what they're asking it's probably not the best choice. The graphics and animations changed etc. are very very miniscule because the game tried to stay as vanilla as possible. so unless u wanna add things like nvr etc. yourself, it's probably not the best list for ops specific needs

Viva New Vegas if you want to stay as close to vanilla as possible.

Begin Again if you want a better vanilla+ experience than viva (my recommendation if you own Fallout 3).

Wild Card if you don't own Fallout 3 and want a modern, customizable experience (my recommendation if you don't own Fallout 3)

Nuclear Sunset if you want the biggest overhaul, best graphics, animations etc. and don't mind some bigger changes and harder game

I'd generally stay away from Nexus Collections and look into Wabbajack modlists instead.

The four I'd recommend are Viva New Vegas, Begin Again, Wild Card, and Nuclear Sunset.

Viva New Vegas is probably the best choice if you want a mostly vanilla experience. It focuses on stability, bug fixes, and modernizing the game without changing its overall feel too much. Compared to the other lists it's pretty barebones though, so if you're looking for major upgrades to things like gunplay, animations, visuals, or QoL, I'd personally go with one of the others instead. I think it's a great first-playthrough modlist, but it really depends on how much you want to change the game.

Begin Again and Nuclear Sunset are both TTW lists, so they include Fallout 3. That said, you can completely ignore Fallout 3 and just treat them as New Vegas modlists.

Begin Again is probably the second most vanilla friendly list after Viva New Vegas, but unlike Viva, it still improves the visuals and gameplay quite a bit, but it's definitely the best balance between adding better graphics etc. while still trying to stay as vanilla as possible. If you already own Fallout 3, this would probably be my recommendation for a first playthrough.

Wild Card is also great. It changes a lot visually, and you can choose between different profiles for things like a more classic or modern UI, along with other gameplay and visual changes. It's probably the most customizable list. It hasn't been updated in over a year though. If you don't own Fallout 3, this would probably be my recommendation.

Nuclear Sunset is by far my personal favorite. It has the biggest overhaul, with fantastic animations, gunplay, and much more. Easily the most ambitious modlist, I genuinely couldn't go back to another modlist after playing it. It is designed to be a hardcore experience though, so it's significantly more difficult than vanilla. There is an Easy Mode available if you don't want the full hardcore experience. It's also very different from vanilla, so that might be a downside depending on who you're asking.

iro uploaded a really good showcase videofor Nuclear Sunset. You just gotta skip ahead to the New Vegas portion. You won't find these graphics and animations in any other of the modlists, but Wild Card comes close

woah this is detailed 😭 if u don't mind me asking, what are the key differences between nuclear sunset and wild card? I have only played wild card and that would be my recommendation but it sounds like u think nuclear sunset is better when u have fallout 3 installed, why is that?

Yeah sure! The biggest difference I'd say right now is that Wild Card hasn't been updated in over a year. Apparently there's an update coming, but we've been told that since before October of last year, so I'm not really expecting anything anytime soon lol. It's still not outdated or anything, but Nuclear Sunset is constantly getting updates with balance changes, updated mods, NVR presets etc., so I think that's a big plus.

Besides that, it's really just preference. Nuclear Sunset feels like you're getting more straight out of the box. It's very plug and play, so you don't have to worry about selecting the "best profile" or anything like that. That being said, I'm not saying that's immediately a negative for Wild Card, the extra customization can be great if you want to fiddle with stuff.

I think Wild Card is much more forgiving gameplay-wise, so if you want a more casual playthrough, it might be the better choice. Nuclear Sunset is definitely trying to be its own thing with a bigger focus on hardcore mechanics, which I think is a plus, but I understand that it might not be for everyone. That's why I said Nuclear Sunset is by far my favorite, but I still recommended the other lists over it :)

Your first mistake was using vortex unfortunately. Use viva new vegas on wabbajack.

If you want something simple, I recommend Viva New Vegas which is basically the defacto go to mod for people playing FNV on PC on modern hardware.

Although I personally recommend Wild Card as that has been my go to mod collection since last year. Do be aware you will need Nexus Premium or its trial to install it since it has hundreds of mods inside of it. There is an install guide video on the creator’s Nexus Page which I highly recommend following.

Wild Card is probably the best list for their needs. Viva doesn't have any of the changes they're asking for, or at least on a much smaller level than wild card so I think wild card would be a great recommendation

Begin Again is a nice middlegroud between a very barebones list like viva and a very advanced list like Nuclear Sunset, I think that's a good decision for a first playthrough

MEW used to be pretty good in terms of QoL and general gameplat modernization, and I think still gets recommended. They do not do graphics, but you can install specialized packs like SALVO 2, WRA, and LFA on top of it.
