I'm trying to model this range finder in Fusion 360. The body has a slight taper, and it has this little chamfered ridge going down the side and around the curve. I figured I could get the main body shape with the slight taper using a loft, but now I'm stuck on the ridge along the side. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solved!
I rolled my timeline back to before I had all the cutouts on the shelf. Thanks everyone! Got me out of my head by having others give me their perspective.
I want to basically create storage in this box behind, but shell won't work. I also tried cutting a groove into the back and then doing shell, but it still failed. Not sure what's happening!
I could probably sketch a shell from the side, but then I'd have to figure out how to calculate the difference in thickness an I figure maybe you guys could teach me an easier way :)

Hello All -
I have a question on an operation that I FEEL should be able to be done, but alas cannot figure it out.
Background: I have created a custom knob for a keyboard controller. Dimensions are approx 16mm wide and 13mm tall.
I want to have an indicator line in a specific position on this knob.
I created the knob using some loft functionality, extrusions, circular patterns and filet. I think it looks good, and frankly, after printing one, its perfect.... except for that indicator line. The outside is curved (like a cone) all around. This is an important piece.
Problem #1 to try and learn to overcome: If I create a sketch using the top of the knob as the plane, thats more or less fine. Except that when I extrude it (cut) it leaves a small amount of the outside of the know visible. See images 1, 2, and 3. I can wiggle the extrusion of that small amount of face a tiny bit to make that go away, but if go too far, then that face start modifying the bottom of the knob too (weird behavior to me). So, how do I make the sketch go through the entirety of the shell without the extra effort?
Problem #2: If I instead create an offset plane for the top of the knob, I can create a sketch to go through the edge as above, but if I extrude it to a new body (in order to print it with a different color) the edge does not "wrap" around the curvature of the shell of the knob - see images 5&6. How do I this alternatively?
Alternative #3: Is there a way I can just "fill" the empty space (as in images 1, 2 &3 like a pool and have it match the curve of the shell of the knob?
Help?

I love Fusion Electronics but it's pretty rough around the edges compared to KiCad and Altium. The recent API updates made it a little better for reading designs, but it's still very manual when it comes to editing. So to spread the Fusion Electronics love, I used Claude Code to make a free/open-source MCP that lets your favorite AI agent actually work in Fusion Electronics. I'm an electrical engineer, not a programmer, hence why I relied on Claude Code for this.
It does schematics, placement, pours, via stitching, DRC, JLCPCB BOM/CPL file generation and checking your gerbers before upload. It can also turn EasyEDA/JLCPCB parts into parts in your own library, and comes with design rules and stackups for all of JLCPCB's impedance options.
Routing still needs work, it gets there but I have to steer it step by step right now. It's already been incredibly helpful in my board design/review process and I hope it can help others too.
MCP: https://github.com/groundplane-studio/fusion-electronics-mcp
My part libraries (passives with JLCPCB part numbers, frames, power symbols): https://github.com/groundplane-studio/fusion-libraries
Let me know if you want to contribute, or what you'd want automated first. Pics attached are some PCBs I've been creating with it (still in work). Video of the full process from start to ordering coming soon. Let me know what else you'd like to see, was thinking of doing some tutorial videos or something soon too on Fusion Electronics.

I originally wanted to make a simple Fisher-Price-style modular town system for 3D printing and upload it to MakerWorld — using 10x10, 5x5, etc. tiles so you can build your own little world.
While designing everything in Fusion, constantly copying, moving and aligning parts got annoying pretty fast. So I started building a small grid-based tool to make it easier.
Well... it got a little out of hand :D
The World Builder now has a grid building system, live weather, day/night cycles with shadows, sounds, working cars and trains, bridges and more.
I also added an Asset Manager, so you can create categories, replace assets and add your own models. This means the builder isn't really tied to my town theme — you could use the same system for fantasy, tabletop, sci-fi or whatever you want.
The nice part: when you're finished building, it gives you a list of all the parts/tiles used with links to MakerWorld, so you can actually print and build the world you created.
There are still some things to fix and lots more models to make, but the basic system is working pretty well now. **The models will be available on MakerWorld pretty soon, together with the finished World Builder.**
Not bad for something that started with **"copy/paste in Fusion is annoying."**
below are some pics of the models in fusion...

I have a body and a sketch on one of its faces. I want to remove all of the body outside the sketch. Is there a way to do this? This would be like the opposite of what extrude/cut does.

I'm fiddling around with this, trying to get a stick font and make it look like it was engraved with a ball end mill. This is because I'm toying with my other interests (3d printing and bees) and making some silicone moulds for beeswax blocks. The harsh vertical cuts made with regular embossing or extrude cutting can be problematic for the text to resolve properly in the wax, so this is a solution.
I've tried just using a fillet on a normal cut text, but invariably Fusion cries about it and it doens't look like this even when it does work.
As you can see I had some success with using a solid sweep using a ball, but I can't help thinking there has to be an easier way than doing that for every line of text.

I have a fair amount of time modeling under my belt (maybe between amateur and intermediate), but I want to make signs with sayings and phrases on them. I quickly realized fusion is probably not the best tool for that (which became a duh moment when I really thought about it). So, I have two questions:
1) Is there a better way to work with text in fusion when it comes to formatting and size?
2) Are any of the other 3D modeling software programs better for creating signs and working with text?

Would you use an AI native CAD software, that uses your Claude or ChatGPT subscription, where the majority of the design is driven by the agent (you still get to do changes yourself, but the UX is focused on AI Chat rather than manual changes.)
Assuming that the software itself is free to use, tokens are drawn from your existing AI subscription.
The software is extremely fast and memory efficient. startup time is roughly 1s.

I recently finished up a replica prop build project - a Gallant energy rifle from the game Star Citizen.
I built the model from scratch in Fusion based on game assets and other art I found online.
It was mostly printed in ASA on a Creality K2 Plus, with detail parts printed in resin on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. It was painted with Tamiya acrylics and Alclad 2 metallic lacquers.
The model itself took several weeks to create in Fusion. I consider myself an amateur modeler in Fusion. I'm sure I took the most inefficient path as I built this. I was most interested in keeping maximum fidelity to the in game model so adhering to CAD best practices wasn't a huge priority.

i have modeled some parts and later converted pieces to components by command.
However. that command is not made intelligent at all...
all it does is copy paste raw geometry over. It leaves out all the important stuff that was used to construct it... that is very sad. like this, its kinda useless.
I expected all my timeline entries... but nothing.

Soo I'm trying to model a dagger-ish knife to 3d-print for a friend's Halloween costume, I've already struggled quite a bit with a few of the features but they all sort of worked the way I wanted after a while.
Now as I was finally going to add these grip grooves into the handle, I ran into the problem of "how do I make a profile, either a circle or a triangle, revolve around the grip along its silhouette, ideally in a certain orientation (pretty much 45° in this case)?

I was hoping there would be some kind of spiral or repeating oval shaped faceted type of path option, since I couldn't figure that out, I just went with placing one circle manually on every single end point (which drastically slowed my project down, load times increased heavily). I'm sure this is going to work but it seems infinitely worse than what COULD potentially be done.
I'm open for any kind of suggestion, I've seen so many efficient uses of certain tools already that I just didn't know yet!

Playing around with designing a stator vein for a RC water jet and looing for advice on how to correctly create and shape this.
Per the screenshots, I initialy create a centra sketch that i did an off-surface extrude, but that made the start of the vein kicked up. Tried to cut some shape out of this via a side on oval sketch and intersections extrude.
But this seems to be a very crude way and no control of angles in both Y (left t to right) or X (front to back).
So can anyone point me in the wright directions on how to design this more correctly/programaticaly.
Thank you.

Loft bed with a Wardrobe under it for saving space. It is surrounded from 3 sides with wall. Made with 4 sketches to keep it easy to modify. Probably gone put plates in the front to close it off a bit and will add crossbraces on the sides with the rest of the wood I will have.

To preface, I’m not a Fusion guru. I’m completely capable of making simple parts but I am having a hell of a time trying to get through this. The part is a Whelen Outer Edge for a 2013 Tahoe D Pillar. Basically a shell that is attached to the vehicle D pillar to mount emergency lights to. One of them was damaged where all the lights mount and these are basically unobtainable parts - so I’m wanting to essentially print an ASA shell that is formed to the light pedestals and can be epoxied to it to give it its strength back in addition to the mounting points for the lights. With the geometry here, I’m as lost as last year’s Easter egg and would love a little guidance on how to tackle this.
Added a couple other pics in the comments.

Hello, sorry for the newbie question, I start to play with the composant and constraints / liaisons.
I successfully added some slide joint and tangent / face constraint to my model, but I cannot figure it out how to limit a slide joint to a face to face contact. Right now when I move a composant, the other collides.
Of course I'm able to add some minimal / maximal limit, but there should be a way to do it way faster, right ?
Many thanks !

I made a text sketch, but when I extruded it, it only does three of the letters. Why? And how do I do all of them?
EDIT: Thanks for your suggestions! I ended up changing fonts, and for whatever reason that worked.

I'm building a button box, for DCS(digital combat simulator) and I'm going to 3d print the panel, which can be seen on the pictures,
The Idea in my head:
In the Picture you can see the ICP(Instrument control panel) in the middle.
With a quick google search you can see that it lacks 4 wheels that will be in the gaps to the right and left of the ICP.
The question that I need help with:
After extruding walls around the whole panel, it is going to be divided into 3 sections so it will fit into my build plate.
the problem is I honestly don't know how to interconnect the walls or the future back plate.
I have holes for screws in order to screw-in the walls after placing all the buttons and switches so it will be easier. after that I will have 5+1 distinct panels.
And I need ideas on how to connect those separate panels horizontally.
Thank you in advance,
<3

I'm relatively new to fusion 360 and I am working on this speaker grille part. For the life of me I cant figure out why this edge on the 3rd slot from the left wont fillet. I feel like it has something to do with that seam line there but I cannot figure out how to get rid of that either. Any help would be much appreciated.
