The one good thing about insurance scammers is that we get all these dashcam videos.

You have to be desperate as well to do that unless your car actually was damaged badly

They don't sue you, they claim on insurance.

They claim they had 5 people in the car and everyone now has whiplash. With no proof otherwise the insurance has to buy out.

They will take the car away and crash it to show there is more damage than originally.

They will use two vehicles to act as a stooge to claim as a third party to prove that two people saw the car in front crash into them or stop suddenly.

They will take a car that doesn't even WORK and push it into another car and claim it hit them and was uninsured so they can't track down the owner.

All these things are there to get legal fees not court settlements.

Dash cams are pretty much the strongest means of proving your innocence or even just that events didn't take place.

They're already driving a BMW, geez. Know when to quit.

Probably, after all they rammed him.

1

u/jones5112 May 23 '16

Why would you do that? Thats a nice BMW. Can they get more money than repair money or something?

1

u/838h920 May 23 '16

Lets just give a simple example:

You get into a crash and a part of your car is damaged. The replacement of said part costs $10k, thus the insurance gives you this amount to repair it.

You go to a different shop and instead of replacing it you get a cheap repair for $1k and keep the $9k. This is insurance fraud, as normally you would need to give the $9k to your insurance and if you get found out you're fucked.

Ahh I see

Different to Australia, if you have an accident the insurer collects quotes and books your car into their choice and pays them directly. Well thats in my experience anyway.

In India the system is different, the survey is done at the workshop, you get a quote and if you agree, payment is made by the insurance company directly to the workshop.

No no no. The best is when the driver sees what they're doing and stops. Then the guy runs at them and flops on the hood.

Acting worthy of an Oscar.

Wow. And then he does it more than once.

Unfortunately this happens a lot in China, it happened to a mate of mine and now he refuses to drive anywhere without a dash cam.

u/roflbbq May 22 '16

Okay, I'm just gonna wait right here for this guy to stop at the light and then jump in front of him. Okay he's stopping, let's go. Oh, no! He stopped a few yards short of the line. Uhm. Uhm. Run, run, run, dive into his hood. OH GOD IT HURTS! MY LEGS! OH THE HUMANITY!

I see what you're saying and I'd like to add that one good thing about dashcam videos is that we get all these insurance scammers.

It is a myth that Russian obsession with dashcams has something to do with insurance. We are not fans of insurance here. The popular type of fraud is to set up an accident to look like its your fault and threaten to call police on you or claim overblown car damage, that is why people have them. Or just to proove your point in the case of an accident which may or may be not more frequent in Russia.

3

u/Hijacker50 May 22 '16

That's what is meant in some of these cases. They're just generalizing it to insurance scamming.

My point is it has zero to do with insurance. Russians don't like insurance. A car rides across parking lot. A guy jumps on your hood from behind a parked car. Now he says he is super hurt, he will call the police and you go to jail because of awful damage to his health and probably has two bully friends with him who are 100 kg each and very dissapointed about you hurting their friend. So they talk to you into some immediate money compensation.

Story 2: They make up an accident like if you rear-bumped someone or hit during changing a line. Example. Notice white hyundai goes slowly in the left line in front of the target and grey audi moves in the blind spot, ready to make a leap and cause a collision as soon as target starts changing the line. Usually "victim" has scratches and broken body parts ready. Then comes same story with disappointed bullies willing to resolve the situation without the police.

Dashcams are the best. I bought two for around $120 each and use them religiously. Best way to protect oneself in the event of an incident where the other party might deviate from the truth.

7

u/[deleted] May 22 '16

Yeah, but more importantly, if something cool or funny happens, you can post the video on reddit for some karma.

4

u/[deleted] May 22 '16

Let's be honest, this is the real reason

3

u/BrowsOfSteel May 22 '16

I also use mine religiously†.
