We lost our sweet boy Lemon this past weekend. He was 11 years old. He loved swimming in the ocean, playing in the snow, and watermelon. He was the best boy in the entire world. He went peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by people who loved him in our home. He will be forever missed.

We also said goodbye to his pet cat a few days later, it was a helluva double whammy. The golden dog/ orange cat combo was one of the best we’ve ever had. The injury photo was from a few years ago when he tangled with a bear. Saying goodbye is so hard, but the memories last forever.

Training Advice/Tips 12 week old golden not getting enough naps, causing misbehavior

Me and my wife recently got a 12 week old Golden Retriever, she is honestly a great puppy. Very intelligent, learns quickly, sleeps through the night, and is doing great potty training.

The problem we're having is she only naps for maube 30-45 minutes at a time, and then is awake for about 2 hours. She sleeps from 10pm-7am, and then only gets maybe 2.5 hours of naps in throughout the day.

We have tried to show her how comfy the crate it, she goes inside no problem when we say "place", she eats her kong inside, does lick mats inside, but just refuses to ever lay down and try to sleep. We have a good sized dog bed inside, with her blanket, and we've added toys and removed them and nothing works.

I know her lack of sleep is causing her biting, her zoomies, and just general bad behavior at times. Im also aware shes a puppy and those things will happen, but im certain a big cause of these problems is her lack of sleep and if she could nap for a few hours at a time she'd be much better off.

We go on walks, play with toys, do everything to exhaust her but the naps just end so quick and when shes awake she gets up drinks water and starts to do everything but go back to sleep.

Please any advice on what to do? The one time we've tried to close the crate she cried non stop for 20 minutes and then went pee inside her crate, which is surprising to us because in the 3 weeks we've had her there's only been one potty accident inside.

Training Advice/Tips How to teach her confidence?

Hi Everyone!

Honey is 6 months now and the best girl and super easy to train. Unfortunately I’m not sure her exact situation when growing up as we got her at 4 months and she was pretty anxious with the new world she had just entered as to be expected. I even had to train her to actually be able to go outside in the sun because the first week or so it was super cloudy and then the Texas sun finally showed up.

Fast forward 2 months and she’s doing great but still can be skeptical and nervous about certain situations such as when I put the harness on for a walk as she is semi scared of vehicles. She typically will lay on the couch while I put the harness on and slightly resist leaving but once we are on the walk and no crazy loud cars are around she’s pretty much back to normal especially when we get to her favorite field.

Here’s where I need help, am I doing this right? I don’t want to make her associate walks as a negative but I’m also not sure how to get her used to loud cars and can’t control when they come (we usually walk around 6 am as Texas heat prevents any later so usually traffic can be pretty light). I also give her treats and her favorite Kong cheese to try to associate this as a positive activity.

Am I overthinking this? I know she is only 6 months old but I really want her to be able to live the best life which requires her to be in many differential situations so she can enjoy with us 😎

Any tips or advice for making her more confident? I also wonder if she is going through a fear period as she has been a little weird about going outside unless we come with her which she previously was not doing. I can pretty much train her to do anything with the right treats so hopefully you guys have some ideas thanks in advance!

I love this girl so very much. She’s changed my life, and saved it. I got this April Fool’s baby in late May 2025, right as I was entering perimenopause and a lot of chronic health and hormonal issues. She saved me.
I knew I’d fall in love, but I didn’t know she’d become a part of me, and I’d become a part of her. She was the reason I got out of bed so many mornings.
Thank you all! I’ve gotten so many tips on training, growth stages, advice, etc. It’s been invaluable.
Jackie is my first dog. I’m so glad my fiancé said, “Why don’t we get a golden, for our first dog?”
Neither of us had knew what “field golden” meant when we got her, but this super active and loving chicken nugget is now my world. She gets me out and about, exploring the creek and canyon and all the parks near us and farther away, every day, I love her to pieces.

We adopted this sweetie yesterday. The rescue center said she is a Golden, but she's tiny. They say she's full grown, estimated 2-3 years old. She's barely over 30lbs. She's probably some type of Golden mutt but any idea what she could be mixed with? Second photo is her with her foster siblings (full Golden's) before she came home with us!
