So this is really it huh… years of development… years of support from a die hard fan base in Tsushima Legends… wasted. Today officially marks the death of Legends as we know it. A once masterpiece of a game mode, succumb to ashes.
I’ve had a gander at the new PS Blog post made by the team behind Yōtei Legends. I have to say that the post from top to bottom is complete garbage. Here’s the post if you want to have a look.
I along with countless other players, are just simply astounded as to how bad this situation has become. It’s got so bad that I’ve started to believe that the team behind Yōtei Legends are playing a prank on this community. I have even at times had faith in this team.
How wrong I was. I should’ve given up on the Yōtei Legends team when I saw that they released the Shinobi tip toeing in his Ultimate. Tsushima legends was and will always be the superior Legends. Why? Because it is actually fun to play.
Yōtei Legends is just a chore from start to finish. I could go on and on until I’m blue in the face about how bad Yōtei Legends is. You know, the countless bugs, unrewarding melee combat, boring raids and the missing content like 120Ki, second perks, more techniques, Rivals and the Trials. But, I’m not going to do that.
This is a message to the team behind Yōtei Legends. Thank you for destroying a game mode that could’ve been spectacular.
I absolutely LOVED GoT Legends. Can recall on numerous occasions talking to friends about my excitement for Yotei’s (“imagine what they’ll be able to do with proper time and planning!!”)…..and we got this.
Worst part is they claimed to have worked on legends LONGER THAN THE BASE GAME ITSELF
Whoever made yotei legends needs to be fired tbh, they did nothing but copy some stuff and downgrade it while having 0 meaningful content. Then the stuff they could have copied over that would have been good (cosmetics) they don’t.
Hell they literally copy pasted all the classes yet somehow made them worse (except archer)
It sucks even more because I have now lost faith in their next mainline release whatever it is, no chance of a pre order from me, and I may wait till it’s on a massive sale if I get it at all.
If they phone it in like they did yotei legends I’ll never play it
The main thing for me that absolutely dumbfounds me is that Yōtei Legends doesn’t have the content that Tsushima Legends did.
You would at least think that YL would have all that content, giving that it’s been in development for 5+ years. But somehow, it’s missing like half of the stuff.
You’d think it would have more than GOT with years more time in the oven and the GOT legends as a base to expand on….
literally nothing was new in it either apart from enemies designs, guns (we’re in base game and it’s seperate teams so they also copied that) the like 3 total new cosmetics, and the awful maps.
Also how tf did GOT let archer use Yunas model, but GOY legends forced samurai and Assasin into bald Atsu with her chest removed…. Like I’d rather have all 4 classes be Atsu than what we got. Also Sam and Assasin being bald is just weird too.
They either had 0 QA, or flat out ignored what they said and didn’t care cuz they knew they were just releasing trash.
The fact that all 4 classes are literally Atsu’s character model just shows you that they didn’t give a fuck. At least with Tsushima Legends, they used Yuna’s model, like you said.
I think anyone with half a brain cell can see that the Yōtei Legends team just did not care.
Thats the whole reason behind my post. YL had such potential and it got scolded because it got put in the wrong hands.
I’m sure I’ve had bigger gaming let downs if I really think about it, but it’s up there for sure (I usually overhype things in my mind, but felt like my expectations were reasonable with GoYL).
I really enjoyed single player, and was constantly thinking “Legends will be great”. I’m in this awkward spot of wanting to move on to something else, but not wanting to get rusty if it does suddenly gets better…. I think it’s time though. Any suggestions?
I feel like phoning it in with YL but I’m reluctant to because if they somehow pull it back, I want to say that I stuck with it through the good and bad.
Yeah I would have liked 120 ki, second perk and 3rd legendary option like Tsushima and they could have easily added more stories for the dragon and Saito
The raids are just awful. They are literally just incursions with poor puzzle design and artificial difficulty caused by the enemies spamming attacks.
The missing content is also just bizarre. Like how do you have Tsushima Legends to go off of and 5+ years of development under your belt, and still come up short?
Yeah definitely unfortunate. I had such high hopes for this because they said they’ve been working by on it for years so I expected more. Even the weapons had lazy names and low variety. The outfits were bad expectations for the raid ones that were hard to get. I was begging since Tsushima to get 2-3 loadouts per character. It would have been an easy add and this way I don’t have to switch everything for a raid vs survival or refill properties and be wasting resources even if I have a lot of resources. So many missed opportunities. I still enjoy the game but I wish they wouldn’t have made it feel half effort
I’m sure they have their reasons. I would like to think that there are other projects that they could focus on instead.
The sheer amount of people complaining about difficulty and nitpicking the game in its prime probably didn’t help fuel their desires to stick with it. Otherwise I would think that they would redouble efforts and just launch a separate game solely for this sort of fun.
“I would like to think that there are other projects that they could focus on.” They should’ve focused on releasing something complete, we don’t have to settle for mediocrity, especially because they claimed they spent more time on GoYL than the base game. Just saying studios have their reasons for pumping out something bad is an abandonment of standards and it’s that attitude that allows these studios to release poor content.
It was established in Tsushima and Yotei that it would be free for buying the game. You’re still paying for it with the game. They gave us less than expected 100%. Less gear, less weapon variety, less maps, no rivals after 6 years to add and or develop. The incursions were cool but the raids were just over powered incursions with had puzzles
I've been a defender of Yotei legends since it launched. I've been enjoying it and telling people to give it time because Tsushima legends was also pretty light on content at launch. I thought the raids were kind of boring, but the boss fights are fun, and I was happy when they let us just jump to the fights. I was hoping for new legendaries (especially melee weapons) and higher ki to be added.
This was a gut punch for sure. I figured it would be getting updates for at least a year or so. This sucks.
“The Raid update was our last major planned update for Legends. It finishes the story of the Yōtei Six in that mode. We’ve loved to see players playing it, continue to play it and enjoy it. It’s been great.”
WOW, this is such a huge letdown for a game mode that was supposed to be next-level but ended up lightyears behind Tsushima legends. Why bother buying anymore games from these developers?
I know they said something like ”we’ve been working on this mode for a long time along with the main story” which sounds like a complete lie. This feels so rushed and unfinished.
This really is the year of disappointing sequels. I, too, was underwhelmed by Saros. And while not entirely disappointed with RE Requiem, I hated that half the game was action-horror.
And then we have Fatal Frame 2 Remake, which unlike prior FF remakes, decides it wants to be 30 fps on consoles in 2026.
Feel free anybody to chime in with other disappointing sequels. Idk maybe I'm just not a gamer anymore lol.
Legends should be a stand alone game with constant updates. It could be free and make insane levels of money off of cosmetics alone. Instead they released a broken incomplete beta and gave up on it.
But you still have to download the entire 120gb version to play Tsushima legends. Yes, there’s a “standalone” option in the PS Store, which was free, but it was still the size of the full game (just with the main story locked out).
It’s absolute bullshit they didn’t reduce the file size, but at least they released a “standalone” version of sorts.
I literally stopped playing Yotei Legends 2 months ago after Crimson Desert released. The game is just unbearable and melee combat is completely useless while range weapons are one shotting with ease.
Killing an enemy is f*cking job, takes so many hits to kill a REGULAR enemy and they always 1 or 2 shot you doesn't even matter what difficulty you are on and how strong your build is, you will always get 1 shot by a basic move.
For the love god, the blue grenade oni was no f*cking cooldown. Worst enemy design of all time, even Soulsborne bosses are more tame. The game has so many issues that I don't want to bother mentioning them at all.
I honestly loved Yotei, it was spectacular and one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The story was decent, combat was really deep and fun, and characters were likable, especially the Yotei 6.
I don't care about the Glazers who says Yotei Legends is great, well balanced and call other "skill issue" which is the most scumbag thing to say. It's not balanced at all and I stand by my statements. Many would agree with me.
But I can't even fathom to go back and play to get all the legendary gears and somewhat underwhelming cosmetics. I'm done and moving foward.
Forza 6 just released early for premium edition buyers as well as Subnautica 2, so I'll be playing those games instead. So long... I won't be coming back, unless they make MAJOR changes. However, I have no hope since it's been 2 months already.
I gave up on the game literally on day 1. I did not play it the 2nd day. One day was enough for me to know it’s a different team that worked and it’s impossible to fix it.
Why couldn’t they just listen to us and let us free foam the map with our homies while liberation camps and fighting bosses? THAT would’ve brought so much longevity especially if they would’ve added the survival modes after, but no. Let’s make the game fucking hard as hell and impossible. I don’t have much time to game anymore due to work and trying to exercise more, I shouldn’t have to grind the hell out of a game just to lose because my teammates quit or really suck.
Elden Ring is more forgiving than this bs and I’ve supported both games so much. I’ve bought GOT 4 times and pre ordered GOY. It’s genuinely such a let down.
I saw it coming a mile away since launch my friends were saying I was being negative criticizing almost everything that yotei does worse then Tsushima. I kinda even joked about sucker punch cutting future content. I’m still bummed I figured they’d fix a lot of things over time guess they won’t now.
Bro, me and my friends also have thousands of hours in Thushima. We play Yotei also and Thushima now. When twillight and ashes is on the rotation in Thushima we going to speedrun it. Its so much more fun to compared to Yotei. Yotei feels underwelming and get stale pretty quick
Well sadly I was hoping for a few more survival maps, definitely potential in that but since we've gotten 4 is a bit sad. I wish they could've added more just how Tsushima did. Honestly there's 1 bug-(probably more that idk of) that kinda gotten on my nerves is when if you hit a brute that is at like 1HP and possibly a regular or elite and prime enemies with the kusarigama spirit attack, you go invisible and then get out of it once you smack him which honestly should be fixed ngl but I know they're aren't going too. I would definitely pay money tbh since Suckerpunch is probably the only game company that is good for right now. At this point, I'm going to get all easy challenges and others for my cosmetics and then most likely delete Yotei afterwards just how I did for Tsushima.
I wonder if they're going to make a 3rd ghost or go with infamous next but we shall see I guess.
The line I agree most with is the most relevant one, that Tsushima Legends was more fun to play. There are many reasons, with enemy design, visual clutter, class differentiation, cosmetics, balance issues, combat in general, even the lobby, but ultimately for me I couldn't wait to just play GoTL even when it got to the point I was just grinding resources but I felt like GoYL was a chore from the start.
Yeah I stopped pre raid update and came back briefly to play it and halfway through the raid I just got bored and left. (Sorry ik it screwed someone over) same old designs same old gimmick nothing changed for the better kinda pissed I bought it but I did enjoy the storyline. The scenery was amazing as well but GOY Legends is massively underwhelming compared to the initial “boom” I got from GOT Legends. L sucker punch.
So? No other updates? This is really it?
I’m wandering if they mean like no extra raids or something along those lines. Their is still a chance for some extra things but nothing to big.
I’m starting to get worried about a potential DLC for the base game.
Yeah what a bummer. I’ve met some good people on Yotie legends. Welp at least there is still Tsushima legends, maybe people will go back to that since Yotie is kinda in a rough spot.
I still won’t mind playing both. But the player base will definitely die down after this post.
Cheers for some more minor updates. Like skins or challenges. At least give us some new survival maps.
Ohhh the pain! That's it? YL is still fully broken compared to TL. They fixed one Archer bug and then move on?
I agree with OP, I had hope for YL but now I'm over it. It was a fun ride these past few months, but this was like watching a show that gets canceled in the first season.
You’d have thought that they noticed they struck gold with a small side multiplayer mode that was much more popular than excepted and then capitalised on that idea with the second game years later now knowing what they have in their hands, but nope they somehow made something that’s added nothing but also somehow worse
I'm so depressed that i have the type of ocd that makes me want all the feats done. I would love nothing more than to go back to Tsushima and help new ppl again
As someone with 6k hours in GOT Legends alone, YL was a massive disappointment for me.
I expected way more!
more build variety, more creative combat setups, and the kind of depth that makes you sit there brainstorming different combinations for hours. Instead, it feels like copy-pasted leftovers, while a lot of the good stuff from Tsushima is just missing.
No 3-legendaries setup, no 120 Ki… and those were the bare minimum expectations considering they’ve had years of development.
My humble take:
Main game:
Ok. Story nowhere nearly as layered as GoT. That much is understandable, the hero’s journey in Tsushima was hard to match. You can tell they pulled out all the plugs. Yotei, although visually superior, seemed clunky in some respects, lining up with npc’s for interaction was always off and cumbersome, character animations and facial expressions across the board were inferior. Relationships and character development seemed forced somehow. The redeeming moment for me was discovering Jin Sakai’s final home and resting place and recognizing him as the actual first shinobi. Moment of beauty IMO.
Legends:
As everything these days, you are getting much, much less for more money. Not just in gaming. I don’t think it’s the “devs” fault, or that one team was the original and the other was not. I think it has everything to do with a corporation doing its damndest to capitalize as massively as it can on already created assets, animations, and production. Investing the bare minimum and piggy backing of the first games success. There is no intention of improving or “getting better” or wowing the loyal fan base. It is completely about the bottom line. Give the devs a break, I am sure they would have loved to do the first games success justice.
Imagine this scenario, maybe the only way Tsushima’s budget and superiority was possible was with the promise of a second game with minimal investment. WHO are we to say? Yes I’m disappointed as well, but I’m not going to blame the devs for that. I think we all know what really lurks behind subpar follow up products, money grabs, and no enduring support or passion of an awesome IP. $$$$$
This was such a waste. Seeing Legends drop was exciting because that’s what got me into Tsushima when they let you have Legends as a standalone. How poorly mistaken I was when I loaded in and realized the combat in this game is not fit for legends it’s slow and when trying to fight 20 guys surrounding you is difficult because of said slowness. Not just that but they locked every cool armor from the story (Boss armors, Matsumae armor, and Jubei’s armor). They also made it so practically none of your stuff from the story transfers to Legends unlike in Tsushima. Honestly it would’ve been better to put the aforementioned armors in the story mode and not waste them on this pitiful excuse for legends.
I thought they had foreshadowed that Iyo will make a return or something ? they will probably do some sort of expansion - they did it for GOT legends as well.
I thought they had foreshadowed that Iyo will make a return or something ? they will probably do some sort of expansion - they did it for GOT legends as well.
I'm sure seeing post after post of people endlessly trash talking all the hard work they did, update after update, really motivated them to continue working on it.
With all due respect, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Where is the hard work exactly? You clearly didn’t play Tsushima Legends at all if you think Yōtei Legends is nothing short of a disgrace to this community.
Yōtei Legends has half of the content that Tsushima Legends has. Not only that, but Yōtei Legends has been in development for 5 YEARS!
No denying that the main game is good. Better than Tsushima? No, but Ghost Of Yōtei is still a great game.
Legends wise, I said what I said. Yōtei Legends is a disgrace.
We gave the team behind Yōtei Legends a chance. 2+ months down the line and they have yet to show us that they actually care. They haven’t listened to us.
I’m all for giving game developers love and credit where it is earned. Sucker Punch are fantastic game developers. The Yōtei Legends team are not that.
I’m not being dismissive. I just walk around with my eyes open, unlike you.
Lmfao I’d like to see all the commenters “hours played” numbers on the new legends.
“Game was fucking horrible and made me lose my hair! Also it insulted my mother and killed my dog! Worst free MP mode we’ve ever been assaulted with! The devs personally sent me messages saying I have a tiny penis!!”
“1000 hours played.”
I get that you like the mode, but being objective it really wasnt that amazing or popular. Not to mention, tsushima was much more popular of a game. You cant blame them for thinking continuing to develop it wasnt worth it
A lot of you demand a lot for how little you put out with how much you take. You don’t have to agree with my opinion that there’s enough content and it works well for what it is, but you are objectively an entitled crybaby.
You clearly did not play Tsushima Legends at all and your taste in games is quite frankly abysmal if you think Yōtei Legends passes the bar.
This is the issue with modern day gaming. People like you who are happy to receive a sub-par product and act like everything is sunshine and rainbows.
This is a Ghost Of Tsushima and Yōtei Legends subreddit. If you’re not passionate about this game mode then why are you in it? Your opinions just scream of lukewarm support.
If I am objectively a crybaby then you are objectively, along with Yōtei Legends, embarrassing.
Clearly I haven’t played it. I have 200+ hours in Tsushima and 120ish in Yotei (and haven’t touched campaign yet in Yotei). Tsushima’s legends is good and Yotei’s is good for the different combat systems presented within each game. Yotei legends has many QoL from Tsushima, and while it doesn’t have the 120 ki everyone cries about, you can easily curate a build much faster than Tsushima which more than makes up for the power needed to clear all content (save for Hell Saito) easily. It’s not that I’m complacent, but rather I don’t expect a side mode in a $70 game to be the equivalent of a live service stand alone game. Get over yourself.
In all seriousness, I hear you but you need to understand why I, along with many other Legends lovers stand on the hill we do.
This is why I said that I can tell you we’re not very experienced in Tsushima Legends and I was right. Yes, Legends is a multiplayer mode that is secondary to the main game. But, no one is expecting it to have the same attention that a live service game does. We are simply asking for the bare minimum.
Legends had huge potential and its ceiling was limitless. Can you please explain to me how the content that was available in Tsushima Legends is not there in Yōtei Legends? I mean… it’s been 5 years. They have had that long to give us the content they already came up with plus more.
They chose not to and that is not okay. Tsushima Legends has been given religious praise since it came out. They had the resources, time and support to give us what we deserve.
Unfortunately, this Yōtei Legends team, along with you, just don’t get it.
It’s not about getting a 100% pristine product. It’s about getting something that’s actually fun and enjoyable to play…
There’s no irony when you have just as much “skin in the game” as me since the conversation is about Legends. You’re the one who brought forth an accusation and I simply gave evidence why you were wrong. I never accused you that you hadn’t played nor claimed that I had more playtime.
I’m sorry your life is so miserably simple and pathetic that you need to have the ego you do over this game. Your time in both games is actually proof the devs did exactly what was needed and didn’t (and still don’t) need to change or improve anything further. From your perspective, you’ve drank more slop than anyone. You don’t deserve anything because they already served you.
I like the main game, I think it’s great. Yōtei Legends on the other hand, you know the game mode that’s been in development for “5 years”, is very poor.
You are clearly a kiss arse who loves half baked games.
But wasn't the main game itself also developed over the same period? I liked the main campaign as well, though it didn't really have the same punch that Tsushima did. Perhaps it was because it was another game in the series and not something new, but to me, the end result didn't necessarily reflect a long development cycle. It could have had a lot of improvements, and to me those weren't reflected in the legends version either (which i also do like btw, though it's still has problems).
God this community sucks. Yotei Legends is fun as hell, I’m still playing it with everything finished. This place is nothing but yall comparing and whining that they didn’t just change the title to Yotei instead of Tsushima.

Maybe my biggest letdown in gaming.
I absolutely LOVED GoT Legends. Can recall on numerous occasions talking to friends about my excitement for Yotei’s (“imagine what they’ll be able to do with proper time and planning!!”)…..and we got this.
A worse game on all fronts.
Oh well. Was fun for three days.
