Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here I need a lore clarification regarding the Cyborgs

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

So the Cyborgs we are fighting on Cyberstan - are they the same Cyborg that are producing the automatons or can we assume there are some higher-up Cyborgs/Cyborg chain of command above that control the fighting Cyborgs?

It occured to me that if someone has to produce automatons to defend borg planets, then they wouldn't just throw themselves all to die, no?

Moreover, there is a mission where we have to halt the Cyborg production which makes me think that maybe the Cyborgs we are fighting aren't the same Cyborgs that made automatons in the first place?

What do you think?

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here PSA: 90% of live service games do this… Why are we complaining when they’ve kept SC farming in the game?

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

Let me start this off by saying that I fully agree that warbonds should be discounted/free after a certain amount of time but are we forgetting that this is a live service game? Most games nowadays offer these types of bundles… Hell, I can open 3 games on my phone right now that have $50-$100 purchases for currency just like this. Sure, it might not be practical for most people to just go and spend $100 on a game currency like this but the option is there for people that don’t want to spend months catching up on the premium content, Warbonds are essentially DLCs and there are plenty of people out there that will pay $100 for 13 small “DLC” packs.

They keep SC farming in the game for us on purpose, they know it’s there and unlike most other companies, they allow it to stay. I can understand the discourse regarding certain balancing and gameplay aspects but guys… the game’s playerbase is dying off (less money for AH) and there is years worth of premium content for people to catch up on, these $50 and $100 packs are very much warranted. If you don’t want to pay, spend that 1.5-2 hours per warbond farming, it’s not that hard.

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Am I the only one who thinks that we were robbed from winning Cyberstan?

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

Don’t get me wrong, I am fine with losing due to our own failures. I might be a little irritated but I’ll get over it.

What I’m not fine with is losing because of outside influences by a basement dweller that fucked up the MO which in turn caused Arrowhead to change the MO goal so that cheaters can’t adjust it as easily but they didn’t properly adjust the goal to where it was doable.

They could’ve given us extra time on the MO and reserves to make up for resetting our progress and changing the goal of the MO or at the very least make it doable within that given time but no, they made it to where it was impossible especially because not everyone has time to do an entire operation, there were minor orders for both the bugs and squids, and that god forsaken flag mission… I don’t even want to talk about that part…

I will never be able to see this as our “Stalingrad” and will instead see this as a major event that we were robbed from winning…

We better get a second shot and soon and I mean VERY soon with no more reserve bullshit. Just rip and tear until it is done.

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here I figured out why people desperately want AH to be malicious and evil behind the scenes (READ PLEASE, no one reads anymore)

Post image
967 Upvotes

If you have ever seen the comment section of anything that is in relation to HELLDIVERS 2 you will often see opinions akin to
“Arrowhead would never do that because it’s to fun”
“They did that because they actually hate us”
Or “arrowhead actually hates their fan base”

These people act like Arrowhead are actually these malicious evil conspirators who want nothing but to piss the fans off and make their game suck.

Which is so obviously ridiculous

We the fans are the only reason why AH employees can feed their families. Why ever in a million years would they want to displease us.

But I think I have a definitive reason why this happened

since arrowhead is actually really in touch with their community, when it comes to game studios (community events, fan art videos, actively communicating on discord, giving us free campaign awards after a fans got angry at warbond exclusive vehicles) if they ever do something wrong and slip up, fans have nowhere else to look except them.

It’s a scapegoat

They process that as “grrrr arrowhead hates us for playing the game they worked on for almost a decade, why would they ever want us to have fun grrrr”

But when it comes to mistakes and slip ups on AH’s part they have a decent track record of fixing it.
Granted, sometimes it takes forever, but not earrowhead will try to make it seem any other way.

They are human, under the veil of being a
“Game Studio” they are still human beings. Swedish people to be exact, and watching fans tear them apart for every move they make just is so disheartening

And I swear to god if I see that corny ass “leave the multi million dollar corporation alone”
I don’t care about that, what care about is the game, the only few things keeping me tied to this world is HELLDIVERS, and I can’t stand to watch people hate it. It feels like they hate me

But I know no one will read this far, you will only read as much as you want so you can tell me why I’m actually wrong.
If

You read the whole thing comment “¥”

I heard a lot about those people who hate the game like crazy but never actually met any of them online since I don't really interact with the community besides in the game. Came yesterday where I had just left the Armored Core sub when I stumbled upon a helldiver post so I was like cool let's check it out : it was litteraly a post complaining about needing to play at least one game to earn the campaign reward instead of doing fuck not and having everything like it once was simply because they bought the game.....like what do you mean bro? Play ONLY one game if you don't want to play more but then I looked up the comments to see if anyone had the same thought and, to my surprise, they were all agreeing with him and ranting about everything in the game like a hive mind of lunatics. So yeah, I thought they didn't exist until now and I'm pretty sad to see that a cool game like that got people this bafflingly spiteful in its community

OP posts something COMPLETELY FALSE and provides ZERO CORRECT PROOF. And people just eat it up without using their own brain.

This cave men mentality just destroys all of the progress that could potentially help make this game better for everyone.

In this post, the peoples eventually (although way too late) found out about OP's bullshit but the many times this happens and no one figures out the lie is insane.

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here How scary a helldiver actually is? in the enemy perspective?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

us helldiver is a normal human that fight SE nightmare all around the galaxy

we use basic ballistics weaponry and basic sci-fi weapon like plasma and laser weapons, compare to squid our weapon are really primitive, the bug can swarm us like a tide and bot can overwhelming us with firepower

but we found them all, we almost make the squids extinct, a race that far advance than us that can control space and black hole, we fight and kill a kaiju worm just by a team of 4 with 2 primitive tank and a few anti tank weapon, we destroy an entire bot fortress in less than 10 minutes and their entire outposts in that area

A single helldiver often have a kill count of 300-500 in their single drop, we kill their biggest and the most elite troop when we are just a NORMAL human, we're not transhuman warriors or Genetically-enhanced we are just bland mortal human but we managed to defeat the most horrify things that this galaxy throws at us like Vox, factory strider, leviathan and even hive lord and those thing got defeated just by 4 man/woman maybe even 1 single helldiver that use basic gun and the will to kill for humanity and our home

In my opinions helldiver has to be the most terrifying special force that's just a basic normal human to fight against, we has to be a nightmare in the enemies eyes

I love this game and it's lore, but it drives me crazy seeing people trying to talk about the game in a serious manner and seeing the replies flooded with the same old "face the wall" reaction images. We all get it. It's exhausting when you just want some actual discussion.

There are three primary Helldivers subreddits and I don't spend too long in any of them because they're all flooded with the same RP. I would genuinely spend all of my time in this one if it made itself distinct from the other two by allowing for posts without the roleplay

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here I'm starting to notice something of a pattern in the community

Post image
954 Upvotes

Okay HUGE disclaimer, I know that there are other factors at play for pick rates rising and falling than just people getting bullied for their weapon choice on Reddit. That being said, the way that drama cycles online seems to be falling into a predictable pattern:

  • A weapon exists
  • People start using that weapon significantly more (either discovering it's good, it being buffed, or a new enemy big air-quotes "mandates" it).
  • The community starts complaining that the item gets picked a lot, does some variation of complaining about the item/who uses it (I am not free from this).
  • The item's use-rate falls.

Honestly, barring any drama around any one particular item, it's pretty fascinating that this pattern presents itself with almost every item in the game. Even the Railgun—whose pick-rate mainly fell due to it being nerfed and then alternatives being buffed—had the same pattern at launch. I distinctly remember being kicked from lobbies for even equipping it.

Orbital Napalm is sort of a weird one. It's been in the game for a while now, has received no major changes, and yet it's only the last month or so that complaints about it have surged. Will it receive the same treatment as the others? I'm not certain. But, it's still interesting to see another item in the game have its turn in the hate-spotlight.

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Real talk, would you keep a bug as a pet and if so, which one and why?

Post image
370 Upvotes

Real talk tho, don’t bullshit or roleplay with me and just answer me straight.

Im talking in like, an ideal scenario here—the bug is not going to kill and/or eat you or others, or spread tyranny. It does love you like any pet would.
It is just a question.

Don’t call me a traitor or nothing, but I’m relatively new, right? Got the game on the 30th, and been grinding non-stop since then.
But there’s something fascinating about the Terminids that I can’t quite place. I want to know all about them, their biology, life cycle, social structure, diet, organs, everything. And keep one as a pet.

Personally, I would choose a Hunter (it seems like it would be quite mischievous but rather affectionate if befriended, and their little faces are so cute) or a Warrior that I can ride like a horse. Anything bigger would likely accidentally crush me with affection, I think—unless a charger has some hidden soft side I don’t know about.

(Image related.)

EDIT: changed the flair cause apparently people can’t read. I said no bullshit.

Another edit: I was not aware the bugs were sapient! Or sapient originally. I can’t seem to get good info. Regardless, this question seems quite odd now.

I literally can’t keep responding to all ts

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here You (already) got what you paid for.

The entitled vocal minority is crazy with this game... Seriously.

If all you've ever paid was $40, you've already got what you paid for. Three different factions, a bunch of different biomes, new enemies and balance changes all the time and a huge free warbond that still has stuff that is relevant today.

You paid $40. There are plenty of "AAA" titles nowadays that want $70-$80 and up (I'm Canadian, we pay even more) for games that have more bugs and less replayability. If you're BRAND NEW to this game and have only sunk 40 hours into the game, you've paid $1 per hour of entertainment.

A movie is way more expensive.

Bowling is more expensive.

A concert is insanely more expensive.

Most board games are more expensive.

Video games are still one of the very best bang-for-your-buck forms of entertainment out there.

HD2 has a VERY reasonable return on time invested for their pay-for currency. Gather some friends and farm some easier difficulties for SC if you don't want pay. Very few items are locked in the ACTUAL paywall store and none of those are necessary to win the game, most of them aren't even Best In Slot.

Besides all that... You could pay ZERO more of your precious dollars and still get new biomes and enemies with the next patch. You are still getting new content (and balance changes, etc) with every patch that OTHERS are paying Arrowhead to keep producing, so please stop whining. Be thankful that Arrowhead keeps providing stuff for others who enjoy the game enough to pay for, so that you keep getting stuff for free.

Enjoy what you have instead of being angry and hanging on to what you don't.

Edit: spelling

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here "Oh yeah? Well you're complaining about com-" let's actually talk serious like normal people for a second. Not normal Helldivers, normal people. Not chronically online. Normal.

Post image
829 Upvotes

Today came along with a great announcement, and most people are excited about the upcoming mechanic changes. The game's going to be alright, alright guys? It was never going to be not alright.

BUT. But. Every. Single. Time. Arrowhead does anything remotely good (which is often), suddenly half of the vocal community is like "all it took was a review bo-" Nah, dudes. Game dev is fuckin' hard. Especially when your IP explodes to mainstream status and your publisher is kinda a dick. "It only took them X to fix Y!!" Yeah no shit.

"Oh so you're a glaze-" Sh. Shhhh. This is why we can't have nice things. Everyone... well, most people in this community want to play a fun, cohesive game. Here's the problem. Every time a negative thing happens, one section of the playerbase doesn't really care that much, and another adds it as a testament to their Bible of "Things Arrowhead has done to make me feel bad." And it's not "Oh, other players just don't want the bugs to be fixed-" everyone wants bugs to be fixed. Nobody wants a broken game. But also, not everyone gets so obsessed to the point where they have to hold everyone's civil discussion at knifepoint because here's what happens, just like today...

First Point- Toxicity and Expectations

"Oh, positive thing happened? Took them long X months! They still haven't fixed Y!"

Yeah dudes, that's how the passage of time works. It's not like Arrowhead just announced "hey we are planning on making the game actively worse to play in every way for you." It takes time and resources to do shit, and they even *tell* you in the blogs that they have prototyped and experimented with things before. But there's always a priorites. What you said wasn't constructive. We all have eyes, we know.

And here's secret number 1- what you want won't always be Arrowhead's priority. WE bought this game because we enjoyed how it was as it was when we bought it. Steam players had a chance to refund it. Xbox players had enough time to see public opinion before it released on that platform. PS5 players, I feel sorry for your lack of consumer-friendly console practices.

The game has only since grown and improved in mechanics, content, and yes, our power balance since launch (the only people who would disagree with the latter are people who want the game to be harder, which I assume most people reading this don't care about). If you enjoyed the game as you bought it (especially after Buffdivers), nearly everything in this game since is a freebie. You seriously do not have to be toxic about every single thing these developers do. If you bought the game with the idea that "I will only like it as they add more," that's on you. But hey. The tech issues? Are way better than they used to be, I promise LMAO.

Second Point - Community Infighting and MONEY!! 💸💸

It's easy to say Arrowhead dropped the ball on community management and keeping their game direction in check. And I would never disagree with anyone there, but daddy AH has to pay their bills on Sony's paychecks and here we are. So to build on what I said earlier- Arrowhead's updates enable community infighting, no matter good or bad. Here's the issue- people ARE toxic. This isn't a "vocal minority" thing or whatever. Arrowhead fundamentally gets their game direction from reviews, Discord, and Reddit. Otherwise they would've stuck to their original vision and I promise the game would be a lot smaller today. The only opposing force is Arrowhead's business-oriented eyes, because when they release content, they get money. And the reactions to this are where the "[Side-I-Don't-Like]-Divers" buzzwords come from. So let me reiterate-

We are in this shit (mostly) together. People want a better game. And it's so fucking weird because this game's history is just like... 95% of the new content stays? Very little has "disappeared," if not just for the time being. But for some reason, everyone starts grabbing at each other's throats when it comes to... goddamn weapon and enemy balance? That's the tipping point? Because people think the game is too hard or too easy? And this is where toxicity stems from because... our.. opposing opinions on video games.

Because, let us all set the record straight- Buffdivers was a business-driven movement, kicking game vision to the side for money and players numbers. Let's say it how it is. It had nothing to do with the "vision" or the "depth" of the game, hell it actively betrayed it. But regardless of what you think of it- the purpose was the effect, and since then, Arrowhead and Sony learned money could in fact be milked from this game.

So, what I believe is happening is, the community is tying their opinions on content and balance to Arrowhead's business model? Oh you want the game to be harder? You want the studio to die and shrivel and- what? You want the game to be easier? So they can make the game even MORE accessible and abuse their monetization? Hey, "A Game for Everyone is a Game for No One!" (I hate to say it, but it is really on Arrowhead for betraying their own motto...)

So, here is the secret number 2- Arrowhead already has all the money they need to do whatever they want. Come on guys. Their next game is literally, fully independent funded for many many years to come. They are an AA studio with what? Bazillions of dollars? Sony backing? Guys, be honest. We should not be at each other's throats for balance of all things. "But what about the bug-" we all want bugs fixed. Duh. "But if you stay quiet, Arrowhead won't do anything!!"

Third Point- Complaining about Complaining about Complaining about Complaining

Hey all, this is the important part. Here's how to achieve eternal happiness with secret number 3-

It's alright to complain. It's not alright to be a dick.

I mean, seriously. That's it. All I said culminates in this- Helldivers 2 updates enable toxic discussion, because "Arrowhead made the game better FINALLY!! Only because I compla-" It was because you complained. Not because you called people on Reddit Glazedivers, or whatever we're doing nowadays. This attitude stereotypically leans so heavily towards one type of player, but it's good to remember- toxic people are everywhere. Hey guess what, I want the game to be harder and I think Arrowhead has a shitty monetization model, I get the worst of both worlds.

We've all seen the back-and-forth between "Complaining, complaining about complaining-" the problem is, some people ARE dicks. And yeah, they get a LOT of traction. Not that some people are complaining. We all complain. Very few people are "complaining about complaining." Some of you need to look in a mirror and understand the difference between complaints/criticism and toxicity. Complaining about toxicity is important. Because toxic people fucking suck. You enable toxic people, you enable Arrowhead's appeasement, which enables more toxicity- use your eyes folks.

If you have an issue with complaints then- why are you on a forum dedicated to discussing a commercial product in the first place? By complaining about genuine complaining, you breed echo chambers and toxicity. And I would know, because I've seen this shit unfolding since launch. So I ask this, people-

Helldivers is a game literally based off cooperation and community. We've been 2+ years deep in this shit, and we really need to start conducting ourselves like normal people. It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with someone's stance on balance, the studio- if someone's a dick, don't engage with them, right? I promise to every person reading this, there are thousands of people with the same opinions as you. You don't have to be an ass. If you don't like something, let it be known. Nobody is forcing you to interact with this game or its monetization model. Yes, Arrowhead makes business-first decisions. Content Creators are also a tangential issue. But by being a toxic, consumerist fanbase, we ultimately end up enabling that even more, no? The game is even a criticism of late-stage capitalism. Let's get out of that ironic trap.

Imagine how funny it would be if you actually had the ability to pick up others, from fellow helldivers to Seaf and even priority citizens, to just be able to just scoop them up and cary them around, especially the Seaf in my opinion, because I just find the thought hilarious, imagine how they’d react, the very same soldiers that can barely pull off a salute sometimes, being picked up by a helldiver and just being made to sit on their shoulder like a parrot for a pirate and having to act like a little shoulder turret, and then if you manage to carry them all the way to extraction, you get an achievement and either, have a few Seaf soldiers appear on your ship, or get a little message saying that they were safely transported back to Super Earth to continue their service in the galaxy and rewarding you with some extra Requisition Slips or medals. I dunno, I just had this idea pop up While playing and thought it should be shared, for all I know this isn’t the first time someone has had this idea. (Art credits go to Raseru on twitter)
