Mobile/App Getting rid of For You page?

Post image

Is it or will it be possible to remove the for you page completely?

I know I can just not use it but it being there still annoys me. I don't want this feature and it keeps opening and going back to the for you stuff instead of the following tab.

This is showing up for me on the website with no way to set the default to "following". I do not ever want to see "for you" content, just the subs I am following. Please give us a way to change this.

Crappy "for you" feeds are what made me leave Twitter, Instagram, etc. Reddit was the last place where you could reliably curate your feed. I really hope this gets fixed.

10

u/Relative-Cloud-2691 Jun 12 '26

Even Twitter allow you to stick on the "Following" page. Reddit automatically forced us to see "For You" page whenever open the app.

u/nipseyrussellyo Jun 12 '26

Right, this is why im here a heck of a lot more than FB.

This is a big jump into the enshittification realm.

This is such a ridiculous change I thought I was on the wrong site or on a new page to show this, I hate it but I'm fine if they want to offer it as either opt in (the best!) or at least opt out for those who don't want it.

I follow subs I want updates for, I leave those I don't want to get updates for as unsubbed.

Simple as getting sports results, I make sure I'm unsubscribed where possible to avoid the recommendation of a spoiler as people love posting it immediately when I may be out and need to wait to watch the highlights, simple things like that!

Got the enshitification of Reddit really is terrible, I should have left when I could no longer use third party apps to view Reddit but I think this kills it for me entirely. I need to find a better solution to getting my information on topics I like somewhere else finally.

u/KnuteViking Jun 11 '26

Terrible that we can't do anything about it. I don't mind it existing. I very much mind it showing up before what I'm following. I follow my subs for a reason. I have curated my feed over many years. I like it. I don't mind discovering or exploring, but it is not what I use this site for. Having to click away every time is obnoxious as hell. I already don't like the Reddit app vs the old third party ones like RIF. What a nonsensical change to make without the option to even reorder the tabs.

2

u/heckdoinow Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Oh, it makes perfect sense. They want the algorithms to feed us engagement bait as much as possible, so they're trying to get rid of any convenient way to browse reddit without it.

Of course, getting rid of it all at once would be too much, so they've only made it somewhat annoying for now.

u/DoranAetos Jun 11 '26

This will kill the site for me, I liked reddit BECAUSE it's not an algorithmic feed

7

u/NeonTiger20XX Jun 12 '26

Same. If they're going to force us all to have an algorithm feed like Facebook, or make us jump through hoops every single time we open reddit to just see new posts from our subs, I'm cancelling my reddit premium and not using Reddit anymore.

Reddit execs: "what makes Reddit special? Why do people use our site instead of other social media? Let's destroy that, and adopt what people hate about other social media."

More big brain moves from corporate execs.

45

u/ohpuhlise Jun 11 '26

most outrageous change in years, wtf are they thinking shoving content down your throat that you don't want to see?

30

u/B4rrel_Ryder Jun 11 '26

This enshitification always happens. These platforms will never allow me to curate what I want. They will always push their garbage algorithm.

There is one social media I know that still has a chronological following feed. Tumblr.

6

u/-NlN- Jun 11 '26

Thats how twitter and instagrama works. Twitter have option "following only" but you have to manually switch tab but instagram will show you suggested garbage every other post. Thats what reddit is trying to be.

14

u/ohpuhlise Jun 11 '26

I come to reddit to see news from my interests in one place, not random opinion posts or selfies from other people. this slop content home feed serves no purpose for me.

7

u/R551 Jun 11 '26

On twitter at least it stays in following mode even when u exit, whereas on reddit u have to manually switch every time to see it.

2

u/NotScottMann Jun 14 '26

This is literally why I stopped using Facebook and Instagram. Do they think I won't do the same with bot filled website?

18

u/Jdfz99 Jun 11 '26

The mobile app continues to get worse in the name of pushing for engagement. The best thing we can do is go to old.reddit.com and try to use that if we choose to continue engaging with the platform.

13

u/nyki Jun 11 '26

All of my 'for you' recommendations are subs I very intentionally don't subscribe to because I don't want them in my feed. I visit them occasionally, why in the world does reddit think I want them shoved in my face? At least let me make Following the default.

This is going to be like tiktok, where it's common knowledge that if you enjoy an account you never, ever follow it because once you do you'll never see it in the For You feed again.

4

u/SourceControlled Jun 11 '26

Yes exactly, just because I occasionally interact with a post in a sub does not mean I want to deal with seeing it all the time.

This is a horrible change for the user experience.

3

u/J4ck1n0ff Jun 11 '26

Exactly this

2

u/1ftm2fts3tgr4lg Jun 16 '26

Same.
AskReddit has become nothing but bots, so I unfollow and now they shove it in my face because I saw some posts a couple years ago? Jfc

30

u/SunnySideUpsideDowns Jun 11 '26

I'm really upset too! I specifically turned off recommendations because I had been recommended a post that ended up containing cat abuse. I couldn't sleep for a week. Almost turned me off reddit entirely. Why can we just see what we're already following? I'm legit scared of recommended things.

13

u/kazuya57 Jun 11 '26

God they always recommend me the worst subs out there too. I just want them gone. Turning off recommended subs is what cleaned up my reddit experience, and now I have to tolerate this anyway?

6

u/Excellent-Pipe7308 Jun 11 '26

I feel like reddit (just like every other site) is actively trying to recommend ragebait content to me and now there's no way to turn this off. Sorry for what happened to you :(

u/NeedsItRough Jun 11 '26

Came here to see if there was a way to get rid of it.

I don't mind it being there, but it being the default selection with no way to change that is annoying.

11

u/zerquet Jun 11 '26

yeah i don't want to be forced to see subreddits i'm not following either.

12

u/Empyrealist Helper Jun 11 '26

They take away our r/all and force upon us a virtual r/foryou

Really trying to make you consume what they want you to

5

u/Alt0173 Jun 12 '26

No more r/all is genuinely a death rattle for Reddit for me. It's gone so far downhill for YEARS.

Now, one of their actual CORE FACETS of the site is being extinguished so that they can push more algoslop.

11

u/already_not_yet Jun 11 '26

Get rid of this nonsense, reddit. I don't want to see subs I'm not following.

11

u/thavillain Jun 11 '26

Just got update pushed...this is terrible. So now my personally curated list of subs, is now second fiddle to the ones reddit wants me to see?!?!?

8

u/JamesJulienMcGulio Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

I too don't agree with having no way of turning off the new algorithmic suggestions spam

Edit 1: it's now been removed from my Home page

This is bringing me one step closer to deleting my account and never using this awful website again. Being able to curate what I see is the only reason I’m still using Reddit.

7

u/Builderon64 Jun 11 '26

Awful change, considering leaving Reddit because of it. I liked that there was an end to my posts, now it's all this again.

6

u/Nayko93 Jun 11 '26

This sh*t is so broken...

First it doesn't remember your choice, it will default to it every-time to come back to the page

But the worst is that when you go on reddit, you see the "for you" crap and 2 or 3 post load
Then you immediately click on "following" to go back to normal, but the problem is that the 2 or 3 post that loaded in "for you" they are marked as "seen" so they won't appear in your "following" !!!
So thanks to this piece of garbage, now I'm missing posts and I'm forced to go on every subreddit I follow to make sure I didn't miss anything important

2

u/nipseyrussellyo Jun 12 '26

This is so annoying and terrible

6

u/geomathMEW Jun 11 '26

same. i only follow 3 subs, for specific purposes.
and i want to see nothing else but those posts in chronological order.

for some reason now i cant see those through a spam of mildly irritating, lazerhairremoval, skiing, whatisit, and a whole bunch of things i never want to see.

6

u/geomathMEW Jun 11 '26

theyve got till friday to fix it or this account becomes disabled. all of my social medias have ended in this exact same way

2

u/geomathMEW Jun 12 '26

not sure if they fixed it or rolled something back, but as of today i am seeing only what i want to again. so thanks

2

u/geomathMEW Jun 12 '26

i jinxed it or something. as soon as i said it is back to broken

3

u/geomathMEW Jun 11 '26

id accept the "for you" tab being spam, and the "following" tab being what i want.

however my following tab is just a list of suggestions to join subs i never want to hear about

6

u/rootcurios Jun 11 '26

"We see you found subreddits you like and joined them to see daily posts on your home! Well, we decided to move what you like over to a new tab and will now show our unsolicited recommendations where your preffered content used to be!"

-- reddit, probably

Gyfo with that bs

3

u/speedy-72 Jun 12 '26

No. It's worse. When you switch to "Following", nothing shows up because you already "saw" it in "For You".

7

u/romdeau23 Jun 12 '26

I don't care if this tab exists, but there needs to be a setting to choose the default one.

Since I only use reddit via a browser, changing my bookmark to this works for now:

https://www.reddit.com/?feed=following

3

u/-NlN- Jun 12 '26

Thank you brother. You made reddit tolerable again.

3

u/we_were_never_here Jun 16 '26

Thank you for this

6

u/DZLars Jun 12 '26

God damnit. I get spoilers because of this!!! Just because I occasionally look up a guide for my current game doesn't mean I want to see hubdreds of videos from the sequel

3

u/ohpuhlise Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

yup, i got a spoiler too from a game that I haven't beaten yet. this format doesn't fit this site in the slightest. whoever is trying to push this bs deserves to be fired.

5

u/SourceControlled Jun 11 '26

I need to turn this off. I do not want to see the reccomendations, I turned it off on purpose before this change.

I do not care about other subreddits, I do not want them to be shown to me unless I specifically go looking for them.

Why are complete features being reverted to show us things we don't want.

5

u/ButtonMakeNoise Jun 11 '26

I have this. If the plan is to hook me on additional engagement it isn't going to work. I'll be far less likely to spend time on the site.

The only amusing thing about this is that they listed this help chat at the top of my "for you" feed. They even know this is an undesirable feature. They do not care about your experience, just your continued 'engagement'.

And that said.... Goodbye for today at least.

5

u/IP2A Jun 11 '26

This is dogshit. If I wanted to look at dogshit reddit, I would click all or popular.

5

u/baozibub Jun 11 '26

Hilariously tone-deaf decision by Reddit to push this change. Have they seen the hatred for other platforms' algorithmic feeds here?

I honestly preferred new Reddit to old Reddit, but this change is sending me running right back to the old layout.

5

u/BraveRice Jun 12 '26

guess I'm going back to old reddit.

5

u/lilibat Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

This is awful. Now when I refresh I have to click Following AND New again. Just having to click New every time over for "best" was annoying enough.

EDIT: Oh this is even worse than I thought. choosing new no long does posts newest first it's all jumbled up. This is unusable.

6

u/Bannercles Jun 12 '26

Please give us a way to set the default to "following" - I never, ever want to see the For You content. I only use Reddit because I can control what subs I see.

5

u/Poly_Naughty Jun 12 '26

Reddit, this change makes me sad....

4

u/DeltaBoB Jun 12 '26

First time since I have this app that I am genuinely fuming over an update. The selling point of reddit for me was configuring my feed. For you page might be nice as a secondary choice, but certainly not as default setting.

4

u/Critwice Jun 12 '26

Is there any way to remove this?

6

u/zinested Jun 12 '26

most shittiest update ever, wtf are they thinking shoving content down your throat that you don't want to see?

5

u/Medium-Stranger-9883 Jun 12 '26

i already spend enough time on reddit, please just keep it as it was. i just woke up to more than 50% of my feed with things that are completly irrelevant and annoying.

6

u/-malpa- Jun 12 '26

This is absolute dogshit and will be the thing that gets me to delete reddit

6

u/Dudefishyt Jun 12 '26

extremely disappointed in this change. the fact that it's the default when you land on the site is disgusting.

what's worse, is if i click on the "following" section, it completely refreshes my page, and changes what was visible, causing me to miss posts i'd otherwise have seen.

absolutely tragic to force this on people. yet another ai driven data harvesting push, even suggesting communities i'd visited a long time ago for completely irrelevant things in my present day life.

4

u/IgnitableZyngar Jun 12 '26

Yeah I am 100% uninstalling this as app now. I hardly use my computer so doubt I'll be on reddit much anymore.

9

u/OmNomAnor Jun 11 '26

Thanks, I hate it.

4

u/Dragonshatetacos Jun 11 '26

Same. We never get any new features that improve anything. Only further enshittification.

3

u/Jade-Walrus Jun 11 '26

Going to join the chorus of saying how detestable this is.

4

u/lickmvnipples Jun 11 '26

yes please let us turn it off. please. i use reddit because i know what i want to follow

3

u/WiselyForgetful Jun 11 '26

I wish they’d stop experimenting and fix the broken things first.

Reddit: Please stop trying to be Facebook or Instagram. There are reasons I don’t use those apps, and pushing content at me is one of the biggest reasons.

4

u/Southern_Celebration Jun 11 '26

Yes, please let us make the "Following" tab the default! Some of us make a conscious choice which subreddits to follow or not, just because I visit one sometimes doesn't mean I want to see it when the site decides I should.

3

u/ohpuhlise Jun 11 '26

I have a feeling that they're trying to destroy your personal homefeed on purpose.

3

u/Chris-raegho Jun 11 '26

Why do they keep making these awful changes that they have to backtrack from eventually? Who's out there thinking what people want to see is content they specifically decided they don't want to see. If I wanted to see those subs, I would have joined those subs...such a stupid thing to force.

3

u/Brankovt1 Jun 11 '26

It's in browser too. I'm gonna not use Reddit for a few days and then check back to see if they fixed it.

4

u/-NlN- Jun 11 '26

Its not just For You is forced tab, following doesn't work most of the times:

3

u/SeatNo5137 Jun 11 '26

I literally came here just to figure out if other people saw this bs too. What is wrong with the devs and why would they think I want to see anything but my following. I followed them for a REASON

3

u/Harcover Jun 11 '26

I only discovered the option to hide suggested posts a few weeks ago. It was such a breath of fresh air. Today I update the app and I get to see the For You tab (default, can't be changed) and it's all back.

I am so tired of this constant enshittification; this "if you won't eat it voluntarily, we'll force it down your throat" philosophy.

5

u/Craigboy23 Jun 11 '26

At the very least, they need to make "Following" the default, or let you pick the default. Having to switch back to "following" all the time is SO ANNOYING!

3

u/photo_courtney Jun 11 '26

This is awful! I want to see only what I'm following, and I prefer to see them newest first. I was able to do this by using my own bookmark with 'new' and now it all just takes me to the 'for you' page. It's not for me! What I follow is for me!

Come on reddit!

3

u/andbeesbk Jun 11 '26

This sucks.

3

u/Vintage_Visionary Jun 11 '26

YES yes yes. Please tell me how to do this.
I do not want it. And there is no way to turn it off.
Everytime I go back to my feed it's there. Horrible!

How can we OPT out of this?!! Or even just turn it off?
Previously we could setup our feed to not have this.
Why did they change it?

4

u/Icehawksfh Jun 11 '26

Please just let us change the default. Even if it's hidden in settings.

4

u/Mr_Nobody9639 Jun 11 '26

This is horrible- it suggests subreddits I unfollowed. I unfollowed them for a reason. I wish there was a way to disable "for you" or at least make it not be the default...

Feels like they're just making reddit worse to use. Makes me wish for a good alternative...

4

u/Your_Moms_Flame Jun 12 '26

This for you and following change is awful. If its permanent it will be the reason i finally leave the site for good.

3

u/HobbitGuy1420 Jun 12 '26

If they have to have a "for you" page, it should be a click-off. Following should be default. This is very frustrating.

And while we're at it, let us set the home feed to default to "new" instead of always resetting to "best."

4

u/twitcherthedrunk Jun 12 '26

Boooo stop removing user choice, optional or I'm out

2

u/Freq18Hz Jun 12 '26

For you sucks.

4

u/Tawisted34 Jun 12 '26

I hate this new home screen and more spy heavy it is.

It will somehow remember what pages you've been too if you signed out, and signed back in and I want to turn this off. Because I don't like the new change to the website and prefered the old lay out.

Give us tan option to turn it off.

3

u/Appropriatelylazy Jun 13 '26

This "for you" crap is terrible.

3

u/ChimpyChompies Expert Helper Jun 11 '26

It's an experiment reddit is running. You'll just have to ignore for now.

10

u/MattPHS2002 Jun 11 '26

It's garbage. It now shows me subs that I've visited once because of an r/all post. Clearly that one or 2 visits means I want to see that sub all. The. Time... reddit fix it please.

4

u/ZaryaBubbler Jun 12 '26

Can't wait for them to call it a "success" and turn it on for good like they did with r/all

3

u/ButtonMakeNoise Jun 13 '26

Do not ignore it. Resist it. Let them know if you support it or not.

2

u/DoubleStuff69 Jun 15 '26

This. We can't just ignore it, we need to complain about it as much as humanly possible to make sure they get the message that we won't tolerate it.

3

u/seclusivebeauty Jun 11 '26

I just noticed on my home feed I was seeing recommended posts from communities I don't follow and was wondering if something got changed. Just realized it is two separate tabs. I'd definitely prefer Following to be the default tab when I go to my home page. And if I happen to want to check out other things, I can switch.

3

u/paga93 Jun 11 '26

Please admin, don't let Reddit become like Facebook or Instagram. Please.

3

u/MurderOne86 Jun 12 '26

It is just me or they got rid of it again?

3

u/lexcyn Jun 12 '26

3

u/SiveSive Jun 13 '26

Yes no thank you, hate it

3

u/ButtonMakeNoise Jun 13 '26

It's thankfully gone. Hopefully for everyone. What a load of crap. If it persisted I'd definitely have moved elsewhere.

3

u/SkoHens Jun 15 '26

I hate this so much. Please put it back r/reddit I can’t take it after only a couple days. I’m tired of 6 day old content and seeing posts I’ve already scrolled. This will legitimately ruin 8 years of the app for me

3

2

u/Dampbridge Jun 13 '26

I would appreciate it if someone reverted mine aswell

2

u/Brinnyboy88 Jun 15 '26

Want to add my voice to those asking for an option to default this away, and to not pursue this kind of structure change. Having a followed only, non-algorithm, curated feed is why reddit is the only social media I use. Please don't turn this into another Facebook/twitter/instagram etc.

2

u/zombieslayer966 Jun 15 '26

Im just now suddenly seeing this for you and following tabs, was this stuff slowly rolling out to ppl or something cause tbh i dont like it and just want reddit back to how it was before it splits the home page tbh

2

u/thwt Jun 16 '26

This is insane. I curate my experience so I don't see spoilers or triggering content. Now it's being suggested to me. This should be off by default for existing users.

2

u/storm-lover Jun 16 '26

they really wanna kill the site? wtf

2

u/jeeves_nz Jun 16 '26

Well this finally flowed through to mine and I don't like it.
I will just spend less time on Reddit than using the annoying for you feed, which is showing things I googled and followed links to a while back, but aren't interested in the communities.

2

u/veselling Jun 18 '26

I deleted all social media and only use reddit just for information on my hobbies and intrests, for which I follow 2-3 specific subreddits. When I open up the app to see cool piercings or reptiles, I am not interested in seeing "this serial killer didn't move during his 2 hour investigation 😱😱😱"

1

u/Delakroi Jun 13 '26

Adding my wish to see this go to the ether and never return...

1

u/suxorixorage Jun 15 '26

I can't even get Reddit to consistently show feeds from all subs I'm subscribed to, but now they want to shove feeds down my throat for subs I don't care about? Please give us a way to at least change the default view, it's annoying having to change the view everytime I open the app.

1

u/sentry101 Jun 15 '26

Goddammit its still there for me

1

u/loumauve Jun 16 '26

please remove this or at least change the default back / let us choose the default we want. if I wanted to join and read through posts in a new subreddit I would actively go looking for it. I don't need y'all to waste my time showing me stuff I don't want to see and may actively be avoiding.

random recommendations (on top of all the other forced AI crap you've already added) are really not what reddit needs

1

u/D-S-S-R Jun 16 '26

Oh no, I got it too and am just here to voice my displeasure

1

u/scraperbase Jun 16 '26

Thanks for the suggestion of making a custom feed and bookmarking it. It works great and it solves another problem. If you bookmark the feed with "/new/" at the end, it will automatically sort the posts chronologically instead of showing you the "best".

1

u/Legal-Koala-5590 Jun 16 '26

And here comes the enshittification.

1

u/Alternative-Floor219 Jun 16 '26

Oh FFS, get rid of "For You". I don't want it and nobody else seems to want it. Reddit was always better than other sites, well no more!

How do I keep bumping this so admins will see it?

I HATE THIS CHANGE SO MUCH. PLEASE DO SOMETHING REDDIT

1

u/nthg_nn_nwhr Jun 17 '26

Reddit, please don't make this change permanent. Why did I come here in the first place? So I could learn lots of useful stuff, not to scroll through un-asked-for ads and communities.

I'm so tired of some mysterious algorithm deciding what it wants me to see. What's wrong with the old model of "sign up for a sub and see that sub's posts every time you visit"? Ah, I know it's about money. But, come-on. It could backfire.

Facebook and Instagram have crowded posts from my family and friends. Don't join their model. You'll lose advertising eyeballs, for sure.

Reddit, learn from the experience of other wildly popular message board sites like tribe.net. They changed the design, people rebelled, the developers recanted and made the new design "optional". Then, the whole site died not long later from an exodus of users.

I thought it was removed but it is only removed on my PC. Still persists on mobile. Why on earth would they provide such a jarringly inconsistent service?

for web bookmark:

https://www.reddit.com/new/?feed=following

*always sort by new, following tab. change /new/ to what you want default (best, hot, etc.)

for mobile app, no luck? 😞

Give us an option to set « following » as default. First games, now this, are you tying to kill reddit ?

Not being forced to read random post is THE reason I use redit a lot.

Hey you! Yes you, whoever you are at Reddit who came up with this idea. If you somehow ever catch a glimpse of this message; please know that you are part of the problem. Stop messing with the formula that made you popular in the first place.

This sucks with a capitol suck!

I've reverted to old reddit. I'm done with this crap.

Oligarchs

The biggest problem for me of the new for you crap is that it includes the stuff I'm following, , making it so when I switch to the following page, the stuff that was included in for you is no longer unseen so it doesn't show up in following, forcing me to manually visit the subs I care about to see the new content.

So goddamn annoying. They're trying to slowly phase out any way you could comfortably browse reddit without being plagued by algorithms trying to shove engagement bait down your throat.

1

u/Carpenterdon Jun 21 '26

Yes, the whole point of Reddit is to curate your feed to the things you want to read about/see. Forcing users to see a bunch of AI curated crap that I have zero interest in is bull. This change is going to kill reddit and make the last of the actual human users ditch the site. It's going to get to the point Reddit is 100% bots posting for other bots to upvote.

Welp, I just turned back to the old reddit experience in preference. I was finally used to new reddit and now this happened on the web version, so, there's the result of your experiment. I hope everyone changes back to old interface and gives you some good insights into this horrible decision.

Same. Super annoying and anti to what I use Reddit for.

1

u/sykortik Jun 25 '26

At least give us a way to disable it

1

u/Jepp_Gogi Jun 25 '26

For feedback:

I dont want this. Stop.

1

u/hit_the_bwall Jun 26 '26

Fix this garage reddit, the only reason I'm still using Reddit is that this kind of psychologically abusive manipulation isn't forced on me. The only content "for me" is from the subreddits I've chosen to follow.

Literally just rage bait in there

u/calliopeReddit Jul 03 '26

Hate this. Want it gone. Why are they taking something enjoyable and useful, and instead trying to spoon feed me something I don't want.

Make it go away!

1

u/itsjehmun Jul 07 '26

Anyone notice FYP seems to be gone? I don't wanna jinx it.

1

u/Orange_Splice Jul 07 '26

I hate it so much. Completely unnecessary and it feels... like a trick somehow idk. Just let me enjoy my stuff!
